This has helped me tremendously. I lead a college ministry at Kutztown University and this happened to me almost identically like it happened to pastor John. The girl had grown up practicing voodoo in Honduras and thought she was interacting with the Holy Spirit but instead invited in a pretender spirit. Not to participate at all, but just to read about their activities as I'm very interested in reading & knowing about all & sundry. I filled in a form three times to obtain literature on this organisation but did not follow through as money was required to obtain these books. But that was enough to set off the most frightening occurrences in my life. I had no idea that just showing curiousity in a subject could have such a demonic affect on one's life. It didn't occur to me that supernaturally, without even reading literature on these groups, it would've triggered off real frightening things. I experienced the most frightening & real adverse supernatural developments. Fortunately, my faith as a Roman Catholic Christian in Jesus Christ gave me the boldness and strength to stave off and fight this demonic attack. It is very real folks. To this day, I find it very weird and hard to imagine i experienced things like that in my perfectly normal ordinary life. I used to think the exact same as you mate, I was a show it all to me or your not real! kinda guy. But then i realised I wasn't even doing the thing He commands most.. I believe my older brother has demonic oppression in his life. He keeps talking to spirits in his mind out loud. He also talks to his spirits in his mind around our house and his head is really red. He reckons he has "mild" schizophrenia, but what he is manifesting around the house is a different story. He swears a lot saying the "f" word, he shoots and booms around the house while pacing around the house. He also is a heavy smoker which the smoke gets passed around while pacing around the house I feel sorry for my mum and my son at times. We are a christian household and are bible believing christians. We are in West Auckland, NZ by the way. We never allow in our household to swear and use cuss words like the "f' word. I am convinced of this and nothing will change my stance over this. I know that God tells us to love another as he has loved us. I understand that. God is Love. In my life personally, I am trying to grow more in my faith and sticking to God's Word which I am doing, thank goodness for that. In the mean time, I look after the house, vacuuming cleaning, put dinner on at times, do the dishes, look after my son for 2-3 hours after school before my mum gets home from her school. I don't mind doing these jobs, these I can do. It is my older brother when he is talking to his spirits in his mind, he gets my family uptight. I love my older brother, I have to. This is what God's Word says. I just know that what he is manifesting from his mind is not normal behaviour. The reason that I’ve come to this clip is because as I re read the gospels and Acts. Deliverance and the identification of “impure spirits” seems like an almost daily thing...so my concern is whether we have become blind to recognising impure spirits at work and whether we should be directly commanding them to go more often??

A Christian friend of mine knew a woman with significant precognitive abilities prior to becoming a Christian but lost them after she became saved. You do know that passage is in reference to the 7, a small group of Jesus' highly trusted Apostles, right? Make sure you use proper hermeneutics when interpreting scripture. These powers were given specifically to the apostles, but there is nor promise in scripture of any such powers for lay believers who receive the holy spirit. That doesn't mean we can't cast out demons, but that's a big leap from a assuming a blanket promise for such an ability.
Ah yes, the long ending of mark. I've heard of that before. There is also the argument that Jesus gave special power to the apostles to cast out demons which we do not possess. But remember that in the gospels there were others operating independently of the apostles who were casting out demons' in Jesus' name. He did not give them this power, but he approved of their activity. The famous passage "he who is not against us is for us". There have also been numerous of corroborated accounts of exorcism today, and i have performed several exorcisms myself on minor unclean spirits. It therefore seems unlikely that people can not actually cast out demons today. I see no biblical support for that view, and real life evidence that to the contrary seems to indicate otherwise.

In my highschool yrs I did astral projection. Could with my mind fly to far away locations...my physical body stayed in bed. Never studied how to do it. Hi. I'm a Christian who has suffered a bit with mental illness. I take medication to help with what seems to be a bio-chemical imbalance. I also pray to my Father who is unseen. I think people are misrepresenting The Christian's viewpoint when they imply that we are attributing all mental health or physical illness to the demonic. Jesus casts out demons in the bible to restore health but in other cases a miraculous healing by Christ seemed to address only a physical condition.
Piper is good buddies with Rick Warren and finds no problem with him. I'm not on board with that. There's lots good about him but not his total acceptance of Warrens ministry.
I have been born again yet only a few weeks later demons of occultism, psychoses and psychedelics were cast out of me through Jesus Christ. It was very extreme but I was calm and at peace the entire time. Even though I felt like an inside out spider breaking it's knees. Jesus went through so much more for our sins: without the Father standing him by. And He made this possible through His Son Jesus Christ and He sincerely wants us too be saved. He unfortunately also knows many of us won't respond to to His call and will not repent. Far more things are caused by demonic oppression than Christians care to think about. I get Piper's reluctance to call everything demonic, and he's right in that we should be somewhat cautious, but I can state boldly that every person I've prayed for dealing with panic attacks or suicidality has been delivered by Jesus of demonic oppression. There are literal spirits (God has not given you a *spirit* of fear) which afflict people, and we're called to drive them out. A full third of Jesus' miracles were deliverance. The church today needs to understand this more than ever.

My wife says she was possessed as a kid. She had gone to clean her sister potty in an outside latrine and out of nowhere 3pigs came and entered inside her. For 3 years she could just start screaming out of nowhere and she says she felt like she was in another world. She also started to become deformed and could not walk straight so she frog marched. All this time her church was praying but nothing. One day in hospital as she was waiting to go for an MRI, their pastor comes to see her and they pray. Immediately she got well, stood up and that was the end. She didn't go for the scan.
...so my viewpoint is that Christianity isn't naively reductionist. It doesn't confuse the spiritual and the physical, collapsing them into one and providing a spiritual explanation for every physical symptom. Instead it acknowledges the reality of physical illnesses with no demonic cause but says there's more. There is a realm unseen but existent. Invisible but not intangible. God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth.
If you are truly looking at Jesus then you will also be in looking at what he said in scripture...and one of those topics was in how to recognize the devil and cast him out.

No, I haven't, but when I prayed for the demon to come out of someone I knew well, it was like turning a switch off or on. Immediately the person went back to being himself. Christ expelled this demon, not I. Of course, if that person made use of this opportunity to return to God is unknown to me.

Being passive like this doesn't always get the job done. Did that girl get permanent freedom? There must be some groundwork in place before a deliverance or "exorcism" is conducted. What if there was a legal opening such as unconfessed / unrepentant sin, unforgiveness, an ancestral curse, possession of occult objects or being a victim of witchcraft (who has no power of defence)? Was that person saved? Now evil spirits sometimes may only leave if they are being commanded by the authority of Jesus Christ to leave. Warfare prayer and fasting is scriptural. "They get aggressive". Let's not talk deliverance down: There is no need to be aggressive but firm with authority. Sometimes demons do not leave so easily - discernment is required but also an intelligent understanding of the problem can help us address specific demons. Perhaps some have more of a gifting than others in this area. I do believe God gives his followers exorcising deliverance an anointing. But very few churches or ministers choose to get an understanding and help those in need of spiritual freedom. Not all oppressed individuals come looking demon possessed. Some Christians show no signs of overt demonic oppression in their countenance but when a deliverance is conducted manifestations occur as demons start to surface. "Everything is a demon to be cast out - let's avoid this excess" - we don't randomly blame the devil for everything. Sometimes specific issues may be due to demons. Sometimes there are signs of spiritual affliction or interference or repeated problems that cannot be understood and resolved via standard means. So in these cases there may well be a spiritual root cause that must be addressed.
I had an experience like that too. I have a sister who is mentally ill. And one day she went crazy. First, she went to public naked. I don't remember how we got her home, but my mom did somehow. My mom was working and I couldn't leave her alone so I stayed home with her. I didn't want to leave her alone in her room because I got the feeling that I had to keep talking to her so that she could say things back to me and be logical and don't go insane. My both parents were working so I had no one to rely on. I was staying with her in the living room and kept talking, really wanting that either of my parents could come and help me. She gradually became worse. I found out that there are two people who are talking to her and she can't figure out which one is lying. Anyway I'm the kind of a guy that don't go insane at all even in a really bad situations. Maybe you'll know what I'm talking about if you are like me. There are people just don't get influenced by things much. So confident that I am, I asked her if she could give me the devils. I wanted her cured. I knew I'm strong. I knew I could fight back. She said ok. She looked at me directly and made a squeezing face and a little noise. I didn't avoid her eye contact because I wanted her to be well. I sensed that something is blocking. I said to her you can't do it? She said she has to yell and is afraid that I might get scared. I said it's ok. And as soon as I said it's ok, she screamed. And I can say to you that DO NOT EVER DO WHAT I DID. The screaming was like nothing I have ever heard. You don't know what is out there. A mom who lifts a car when her baby is in danger is real. Her scream was like a sound that was about to tear my ear off. I did not know that a person could make a such loud and thunder like noise. There was no human trace in that scream. I was so suprised and made a scared face so she noticed. She asked me if she can continue, and I knew that it was my limit. I said no I'm scared. She stopped. I know that if she continued she might have been successful because I knew that when she broke the confidence in me she opened a door that she was over me and she could make the situation to go however she wanted to go. You know why having siblings is good? Because we care about each other. I felt that she didn't want my harm by giving me the satans. As much as I cared about her, she did too. She kepted them. I love her. Please pray for my sister. I don't care I die tomorrow if she can be cured. Please help me and my family Lord.
Hi Scott, I took a quick look. While I believe that God can and does heal, I think the idea that we need never be ill or take practical medicines for those illnesses is unscriptural.
That's strange, the apostles cast them out in the name of Jesus. They did not sing Charismatic carouses or read the Scriptures to them--they told demons to leave.
He did mention they did talk about the lordship of Jesus Christ. So they did not just sing, they mentioned how Christ is Lord and how he is supreme over Satan's power.
+Charles Mangum I think casting out devils in the name of Jesus doesn't mean that we have to utter the words "in the name of Jesus" everytime there is a deliverance. It simply means declaring lordship of Jesus over that person, lifting up the name of Jesus, calling out to Him. It means we declare and acknowledge that it is the power of Christ that is able to overcome the devils, not by our own strength or will. Hence the bible tells us to cast out devils in the name of Jesus. I don't think praise and worshiping Jesus is wrong in occasion like this. My pastor used to do that too. I've seen, but never exorcised a possessed person(s), but have exorcised some haunted places. Souls are a whole different ball of wax. One must understand exactly what a soul IS, first, then be strong in faith.
Nope, not biblical. Love John Piper, but no where is this counseled in scripture. Have dealt with demon possession myself in my 30 years of ministry. Demons are not "Exorcized" in the bible, they were cast out by Christ and the apostles, a gift not given to the saints, but only to the apostles and writers of the New Testament. The possessions that I have dealt with in the past were handled by first bathing it in prayer, and then bringing the person to Christ. When it comes to children, I simply bring the Gospel into the household and urge the parents to receive Christ and be saved and by it their home sanctified. Now Pipers counsel at the end of this video is right on.

It's true that God desires us to know truth deep in our hearts (Psalm 51:6). But what if my heart truly believes that God wants me to kill someone in a terrorist attack (like Osama Bin Laden truly believed)? What if my intuition of God differs from your intuition? Is there no standard of Truth? If God is who my intuition makes Him out to be, and you and I have different intuitions, are there 2 different Gods? My intuition of God doesn't include past lives or heaven-sent demon possessions.

This has helped me tremendously. I lead a college ministry at Kutztown University and this happened to me almost identically like it happened to pastor John. The girl had grown up practicing voodoo in Honduras and thought she was interacting with the Holy Spirit but instead invited in a pretender spirit. I am Roman Catholic & was curious about an ancient secret religious type organisation. Not to participate at all, but just to read about their activities as I'm very interested in reading & knowing about all & sundry.
I filled in a form three times to obtain literature on this organisation but did not follow through as money was required to obtain these books. But that was enough to set off the most frightening occurrences in my life. I had no idea that just showing curiousity in a subject could have such a demonic affect on one's life. It didn't occur to me that supernaturally, without even reading literature on these groups, it would've triggered off real frightening things. I experienced the most frightening & real adverse supernatural developments. Fortunately, my faith as a Roman Catholic Christian in Jesus Christ gave me the boldness and strength to stave off and fight this demonic attack. It is very real folks. To this day, I find it very weird and hard to imagine i experienced things like that in my perfectly normal ordinary life. The Lord Jesus Christ is unquestionably the most powerful being on this Earth to conquer/fight these demons.
It is likely that we encounter a lot more demonised people rather than straight out possession.

I used to think the exact same as you mate, I was a show it all to me or your not real! kinda guy. But then i realised I wasn't even doing the thing He commands most.. (This part is essential if you want to experience Him. Obeying Him *look at the bible for info on that* and of course 100% Faith in Him).Not doing these things seperates us from Him. So I started off trying to believe He was real it was hard at first and I failed many times but I showed Him I was serious about it and didn't give up. And man you wouldn't believe...for 7 + years I was depressed and lost in sin He ABOLISHED my addictions so quick I was speechless. He's Mercy for those that TRULY seek Him is beyond any type of love I've experienced. He can and will do it for you too bro if you show Him your serious and never give up!

I believe my older brother has demonic oppression in his life. He keeps talking to spirits in his mind out loud. He also talks to his spirits in his mind around our house and his head is really red. He reckons he has "mild" schizophrenia, but what he is manifesting around the house is a different story. He swears a lot saying the "f" word, he shoots and booms around the house while pacing around the house. He also is a heavy smoker which the smoke gets passed around while pacing around the house I feel sorry for my mum and my son at times. We are a christian household and are bible believing christians. We are in West Auckland, NZ by the way. We never allow in our household to swear and use cuss words like the "f' word. I am convinced of this and nothing will change my stance over this.
I know that God tells us to love another as he has loved us. I understand that. God is Love. In my life personally, I am trying to grow more in my faith and sticking to God's Word which I am doing, thank goodness for that. In the mean time, I look after the house, vacuuming cleaning, put dinner on at times, do the dishes, look after my son for 2-3 hours after school before my mum gets home from her school. I don't mind doing these jobs, these I can do.
It is my older brother when he is talking to his spirits in his mind, he gets my family uptight. I love my older brother, I have to. This is what God's Word says. I just know that what he is manifesting from his mind is not normal behaviour.
Please keep our family in your prayers, I don't know if families worldwide go through this issue as well as I do.

The reason that I’ve come to this clip is because as I re read the gospels and Acts. Deliverance and the identification of “impure spirits” seems like an almost daily thing...so my concern is whether we have become blind to recognising impure spirits at work and whether we should be directly commanding them to go more often??

A Christian friend of mine knew a woman with significant precognitive abilities prior to becoming a Christian but lost them after she became saved. Only then was it realized that she likely had a demon similar to the girl in Acts 16:16. No one suspected her plight since she never came close to manifesting the stereotypical characteristics portrayed by Linda Blair in the movie The Exorcist.

You do know that passage is in reference to the 7, a small group of Jesus' highly trusted Apostles, right? Make sure you use proper hermeneutics when interpreting scripture. These powers were given specifically to the apostles, but there is nor promise in scripture of any such powers for lay believers who receive the holy spirit. That doesn't mean we can't cast out demons, but that's a big leap from a assuming a blanket promise for such an ability.
Ah yes, the long ending of mark. I've heard of that before. There is also the argument that Jesus gave special power to the apostles to cast out demons which we do not possess. But remember that in the gospels there were others operating independently of the apostles who were casting out demons' in Jesus' name. He did not give them this power, but he approved of their activity. The famous passage "he who is not against us is for us". There have also been numerous of corroborated accounts of exorcism today, and i have performed several exorcisms myself on minor unclean spirits. It therefore seems unlikely that people can not actually cast out demons today. I see no biblical support for that view, and real life evidence that to the contrary seems to indicate otherwise.

The first church I attended the pastor Rev Les Pritchard was a wonderful man of God.
He mainly stuck to the very positive stories/teachings of scripture but this one time he gave an example of a demonic encounter he had. Boy was I surprised. He barely ever brought up that subject or any scripture along that theme.
He said when he was a young pastor married and with two younger children something unusual started happening. On Saturday evenings at bedtime his kids would make a fuss and cry ...he had to go to their bedroom many times to comfort the two kids. Well they slept well for the next nights but on Sat. a repeat performance ...kids crying ....Pastor Pritchard was very tired and his service to minster was compromised in the church services on Sunday.
Anyways this went on and on....kids crying Sat nights...then as he opened the kids bedroom door he saw 2 demons !!! One taller and a shorter one.
Instantly he prayed for them to go and not come back in Jesus Name. Poof the demons vanished and the kids slept well 7 nights a week afterwords.

Hi. I'm a Christian who has suffered a bit with mental illness. I take medication to help with what seems to be a bio-chemical imbalance. I also pray to my Father who is unseen. I think people are misrepresenting The Christian's viewpoint when they imply that we are attributing all mental health or physical illness to the demonic. Jesus casts out demons in the bible to restore health but in other cases a miraculous healing by Christ seemed to address only a physical condition.

I have been born again yet only a few weeks later demons of occultism, psychoses and psychedelics were cast out of me through Jesus Christ. It was very extreme but I was calm and at peace the entire time. Even though I felt like an inside out spider breaking it's knees. Jesus went through so much more for our sins: without the Father standing him by.

And He made this possible through His Son Jesus Christ and He sincerely wants us too be saved. He unfortunately also knows many of us won't respond to to His call and will not repent. Far more things are caused by demonic oppression than Christians care to think about. I get Piper's reluctance to call everything demonic, and he's right in that we should be somewhat cautious, but I can state boldly that every person I've prayed for dealing with panic attacks or suicidality has been delivered by Jesus of demonic oppression. There are literal spirits (God has not given you a *spirit* of fear) which afflict people, and we're called to drive them out. A full third of Jesus' miracles were deliverance. The church today needs to understand this more than ever.
Those with holy spirit inside will never ever get possessed, nor any witchcraft works on them.

My wife says she was possessed as a kid. She had gone to clean her sister potty in an outside latrine and out of nowhere 3pigs came and entered inside her. For 3 years she could just start screaming out of nowhere and she says she felt like she was in another world. She also started to become deformed and could not walk straight so she frog marched. All this time her church was praying but nothing. One day in hospital as she was waiting to go for an MRI, their pastor comes to see her and they pray. Immediately she got well, stood up and that was the end. She didn't go for the scan.

...so my viewpoint is that Christianity isn't naively reductionist. It doesn't confuse the spiritual and the physical, collapsing them into one and providing a spiritual explanation for every physical symptom. Instead it acknowledges the reality of physical illnesses with no demonic cause but says there's more. There is a realm unseen but existent. Invisible but not intangible. God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth.

No, I haven't, but when I prayed for the demon to come out of someone I knew well, it was like turning a switch off or on. Immediately the person went back to being himself. Christ expelled this demon, not I.
Of course, if that person made use of this opportunity to return to God is unknown to me.

Take some pictures of those demons the next time they show up. Right now it just looks like you are making baseless claims about demons existing.
Being passive like this doesn't always get the job done. Did that girl get permanent freedom? There must be some groundwork in place before a deliverance or "exorcism" is conducted. What if there was a legal opening such as unconfessed / unrepentant sin, unforgiveness, an ancestral curse, possession of occult objects or being a victim of witchcraft (who has no power of defence)? Was that person saved? Now evil spirits sometimes may only leave if they are being commanded by the authority of Jesus Christ to leave. Warfare prayer and fasting is scriptural. "They get aggressive". Let's not talk deliverance down: There is no need to be aggressive but firm with authority. Sometimes demons do not leave so easily - discernment is required but also an intelligent understanding of the problem can help us address specific demons. Perhaps some have more of a gifting than others in this area. I do believe God gives his followers exorcising deliverance an anointing. But very few churches or ministers choose to get an understanding and help those in need of spiritual freedom. Not all oppressed individuals come looking demon possessed. Some Christians show no signs of overt demonic oppression in their countenance but when a deliverance is conducted manifestations occur as demons start to surface. "Everything is a demon to be cast out - let's avoid this excess" - we don't randomly blame the devil for everything. Sometimes specific issues may be due to demons. Sometimes there are signs of spiritual affliction or interference or repeated problems that cannot be understood and resolved via standard means. So in these cases there may well be a spiritual root cause that must be addressed.
I had an experience like that too. I have a sister who is mentally ill. And one day she went crazy. First, she went to public naked. I don't remember how we got her home, but my mom did somehow. My mom was working and I couldn't leave her alone so I stayed home with her. I didn't want to leave her alone in her room because I got the feeling that I had to keep talking to her so that she could say things back to me and be logical and don't go insane. My both parents were working so I had no one to rely on. I was staying with her in the living room and kept talking, really wanting that either of my parents could come and help me. She gradually became worse. I found out that there are two people who are talking to her and she can't figure out which one is lying. Anyway I'm the kind of a guy that don't go insane at all even in a really bad situations. Maybe you'll know what I'm talking about if you are like me. There are people just don't get influenced by things much. So confident that I am, I asked her if she could give me the devils. I wanted her cured. I knew I'm strong. I knew I could fight back. She said ok. She looked at me directly and made a squeezing face and a little noise. I didn't avoid her eye contact because I wanted her to be well. I sensed that something is blocking. I said to her you can't do it? She said she has to yell and is afraid that I might get scared. I said it's ok. And as soon as I said it's ok, she screamed. And I can say to you that DO NOT EVER DO WHAT I DID. The screaming was like nothing I have ever heard. You don't know what is out there. A mom who lifts a car when her baby is in danger is real. Her scream was like a sound that was about to tear my ear off. I did not know that a person could make a such loud and thunder like noise. There was no human trace in that scream. I was so suprised and made a scared face so she noticed. She asked me if she can continue, and I knew that it was my limit. I said no I'm scared. She stopped. I know that if she continued she might have been successful because I knew that when she broke the confidence in me she opened a door that she was over me and she could make the situation to go however she wanted to go. You know why having siblings is good? Because we care about each other. I felt that she didn't want my harm by giving me the satans. As much as I cared about her, she did too. She kepted them. I love her. Please pray for my sister. I don't care I die tomorrow if she can be cured. Please help me and my family Lord.

Hi Scott, I took a quick look. While I believe that God can and does heal, I think the idea that we need never be ill or take practical medicines for those illnesses is unscriptural.
That's strange, the apostles cast them out in the name of Jesus. They did not sing Charismatic carouses or read the Scriptures to them--they told demons to leave.
He did mention they did talk about the lordship of Jesus Christ. So they did not just sing, they mentioned how Christ is Lord and how he is supreme over Satan's power.
+Charles Mangum I think casting out devils in the name of Jesus doesn't mean that we have to utter the words "in the name of Jesus" everytime there is a deliverance. It simply means declaring lordship of Jesus over that person, lifting up the name of Jesus, calling out to Him. It means we declare and acknowledge that it is the power of Christ that is able to overcome the devils, not by our own strength or will. Hence the bible tells us to cast out devils in the name of Jesus. I don't think praise and worshiping Jesus is wrong in occasion like this. My pastor used to do that too.

Nope, not biblical. Love John Piper, but no where is this counseled in scripture. Have dealt with demon possession myself in my 30 years of ministry. Demons are not "Exorcized" in the bible, they were cast out by Christ and the apostles, a gift not given to the saints, but only to the apostles and writers of the New Testament. The possessions that I have dealt with in the past were handled by first bathing it in prayer, and then bringing the person to Christ. When it comes to children, I simply bring the Gospel into the household and urge the parents to receive Christ and be saved and by it their home sanctified. Now Pipers counsel at the end of this video is right on.

Secondly, what Bible translation do you use, and is it a good translation? An excellent argument for an English translation is the King James Version (but not 1611); however, the Douay Rheims is a better version translated over 41-42 years. Thus what version do you give authority to, and why, and do you grant "infallible" judgment to the translators. If you don't, then your translation is not safe.
3) The 60-second Position of the Church for Salvation is a confession of belief and baptism, then love the Lord Jesus and keep his commandments: (Acts 8: "Then Philip, opening his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached unto him, Jesus. We can't make up for the sins that we've committed against God. He is too perfect to allow our sinful imperfection to be accepted. The death of Jesus is the only thing that can allow imperfect, sinful people like you and me to be accepted by God. He's the only one who could "earn the right to get to heaven" and shares that right with us.

It's true that God desires us to know truth deep in our hearts (Psalm 51:6). But what if my heart truly believes that God wants me to kill someone in a terrorist attack (like Osama Bin Laden truly believed)? What if my intuition of God differs from your intuition? Is there no standard of Truth? If God is who my intuition makes Him out to be, and you and I have different intuitions, are there 2 different Gods? My intuition of God doesn't include past lives or heaven-sent demon possessions.
