- So, picture this: it's 2008, and Nissan drops a bombshell in the car world-introducing the VQ37VHR engine. This bad boy was a game-changer, finding its home in the 370Z and the Infiniti G37, among others. Nissan's VQ37

when it first came out in 2008, it had more power than v8 muscle cars. I miss my 370z, i owned the nismo and it felt so stable even in the rain, learning how to drive manual in this was really hard that even my coworker who loves manuals stalled driving it for the first time in traffic. It was rewarding when i mastered it though.
I’m trading my 3.7 q50 in for either a 2020 rs400 or a s4, the Q has been an amazing car for 150k miles and 10 years
This car is literally the easiest car to make good power with good weight, Intake 400$ test pipe 200$ Catback 400$ and tune 600 $ and you have 400+ crank HP and it’s 3300 pounds. It’s 20k and you only need 1500-1600$ to FBO it. AND it’s reliable.
To really show off VVEL you need to show off the power graph
An easy 20HP is simply swapping the exhaust system. That's 20 HP minus a tune. HIgh flow converters or test pipes added with intake and it's plausible to gain 40 HP with a tune. It's not cheap to add power to this engine as it's pretty good out of the box. If one doesn't want to spend upwards of 50K and up for the new Z, you can get a 370Z (or Infinity) in the 20s and spend about 10K for a Z1 orTop Gun supercharger and you'll have a more powerful car than the new Z for 20K cheaper.

I bought a 2019 370Z sport pkg 6MT new back at the end of 2018. I went down to Fast Intentions in LA and had their true dual x-pipe cat back exhaust plus a Stillen Gen 3 long tube cold air intake installed. The next day I went down the road to Specialty Z and had an Ecutek tune done on a Dynojet chassis dynamometer. The results were that the peak crank hp went up from the Nissan rated 332 to what we estimated to be about 390 hp, assuming a 15% drivetrain loss. The torque increased uniformly across the rev range by about 15%, remaining nearly flat. At 65,000 miles the engine is still using no oil, as indicated on the dipstick at the 3K mile oil change intervals. Used engine oil analyses show very low wear metal concentrations in the oil.

"Jazzed up the heads" is quite the understatement. VVEL >>> contemporary VANOS. Daily drive an AWD VHR, weekend drive a RWD HR roadster. I've been in VQ heaven for years, 8 with the G to be exact.

The gasket issues in the early years is actually the oil gully gasket by the timing chain. Would break down and leak so they eventually changed it to metal gasket to fix it. Changing it is a pain because you have to take the front plate cover off.

Forgot to mention the M37/Q70 man... 😏
I'm putting a 3.7 in my S chassis right now from a 2014 Q series
The 370Z is a great highway car. 4th gear pulls all day!
Enjoyed this video. Surprised there was no car sounds the entire video!
