I guess. Dieter hasn't even been pushing chicken as a bait though. He heard others talking about it and said that he dismissed the idea for a while. He's been doing some test runs with the Kool-Aid chicken over a few videos and has had good success with it. He said he'll continue to test the chicken as the conditions change going into the winter. He by no means has been THE advocate of chicken though, so I'm not sure why he'd be laughing at Dave here.

Stick to the skipjack and shad. Chicken is for guys who use zebcos and catch two lb channel cats. Of course if you put twenty rods out with chicken eventually you might catch a decent fish but I can put one rod out with shad or skipjack and catch big fish very regularly. Chicken is ok for kids learning to fish I guess. Or if you can't use a casting net or don't know what a sabiki rig is. Other than that it has no use in fishing.
@@EliteNugz I personally have to argue with this one because a few weeks ago we went fishing, and I only had 3 rods in the water, and caught a 22lbs kitty so it doesn’t matter the amount of rods per say

Dave, Thanks to you I have landed more big catfish this year than any time of my life. After I watched you catch catfish with catfish I bought some and tried my luck. That was in February and in 10 minutes I had a 17 lb on the bank. Since then I have been working my butt off for bait. Live bluegill, gizzard shad and skipjack. I have landed several over 35lb so far. Now I guess I’m going to have to pick up some chicken! I am sure you were pleased with the number of fish in this video! Most I have seen you land in awhile. Biggest catfish we used to catch on various tributaries of the Missouri River were with chicken livers. Second biggest was with BeeJay brand stink bait.
I've tried EVERYTHING over the last 25 years. I've decided that Chicken is THE ONLY grocery store bait that will consistently catch fish. Cut bait is the obvious trophy fish bait. On my top 5 on catches 3 are chicken.. 1. 64lb blue cat on cut Asain carp 2. 59lb blue on cut drum 3. 59 lb blue on chicken 4.54 lb blue on chicken 5. 50lb blue on chicken. plus the biggest channel catfish I ever caught which was about 15 lb came in on chicken as well. To be honest I used to talk crap on people who used chicken until a friend of mine brought some out on my boat and ended up catching about five times the fish I caught on shad and skipjack. 😵
@@markbrown7449 zebcos are known for having horrible drags and if you're serious about catching big catfish you need at least a good spinning reel or I'd suggest a good bait cast reel like an ambassador 6500.
The two attractive amino acids arginine and lysine both of which cause aggressive feeding behavior in everything from sharks to catfish to bluegill. Most of your catfish dip baits and most fish attractants contain these. Chicken an turkey have a higher concentration of these amino acids than any other meat. Jello contains arginine and lysine as well...koolaid has neither one of these but what it does is physically stick (ionic bond with the amino acids) to the amino acids already in the chicken and make them more readily disperse in to the water (easier for fish to smell them). Koolaid + chicken appears to be easier for the fish to find than the higher concentrations of amino acids in the jello + chicken

I think using catfish to catch catfish is stupid but carp are invasive. The more people that use carp for bait the better i say and it does catch fish.

At 40:20, I said, HOLY $h!T!!! out loud and laughed out loud!! Great video. If it wasn't so entertaining in the beginning I would not have stayed with it the whole way through. On the Susquehanna River one spring I caught 13 blue cats up to 20 lbs on the same white perch head. We use white perch, LY, shad, plain chicken, chicken w/garlic and chicken w/garlic and strawberry jello. I use big chunks. Subscribed! :-)

@@catfishmamba6611 I've never seen a flathead caught on chicken. Where I live we don't have blues this far up the Ohio. So I just stick with crappy, blue gill, and creek chubs. Chubs just seem to do the best in my area for Flatheads. Sure would like to catch some big blues, but it just ain't gonna happen unless I go south.
@@catfishmamba6611 I'm about 20 or so miles from the beginning of the Ohio on the PA Ohio state lines. I heard a few years ago they were gonna try to re introduce them in this area, but I haven't heard anything on that lately. I heard they were catching as far north as the Weirton area I believe.

Chicken breast with cherry kool aid is the BEST bait for channel catfish. That’s why people catch small fish on it. A huge channel is 10 pounds. I’ve fished area’s with blues and flathead and never caught one. I figure flathead will go for it but nothing yet. If you want a bait to catch all 3 species of catfish use cut bait. I use cut carp and buffalo to catch blues and flathead and I DISAGREE with you about sandy cooper. The king of big catfish lakes is 50 minutes from me and it’s called lake Tawakoni. Texoma, Lewisville, Toledo Bend are all great catfish lakes in my area. Tawakoni is the king. Lake record blue is 90 pounds. I think the lake record flathead is 75 and the lake record channel is 30. Ps i use carp and buffalo because they’re invasive and easy to catch. It’s a unlimited source of bait
I catch Blue Cat all the time on Kool Aid chicken breast. I'm in DFW too. Deiter Melhorn has caught some big fish on it. Biggest blue I've caught was 12.5 lbs, and it was caught on Koolaid Chicken, with fresh minced garlic. Went out Sunday, and it was the only thing I could get them to bite on. Side by side with live shad, and cut shad. Just depends on the situation.
Rivers produce way better fish. 90lb blues are pretty common on the James River here in Richmond Va. state record is over 120. I think the world record blue cat might be from here too
Its SANTEE COOPER SC. and, it consists of 2 enormous lakes( at some places from 1 bank all you see is water it is so far across you cannot see across to the other bank) . Lake Marion and, Lake Moultrie. I don't know record fish stats but, they are the most well known lakes of the eastern USA.
Flatheads are a little different than the other species. They are by far the most predatory compared to the other two, hence why in some areas of the country people live by using live bait for them. One such area is where I’m from in Iowa, I don’t personally know anyone who routinely targets flatheads with cut bait. However, my personal best was actually caught on a cut up green sunfish. I think generally speaking flatheads certainly prefer fish in general, and if you are going to use cut bait, the fresher the better. In fact, if I plan on using cut bait to target them (with the hope I won’t get bombarded with channel catfish) I’ll try to keep my bait alive until I’m ready to cut it up. I frequently do this for baits like sunfish and bluegill, which lack the oils that baits like shad or skipjack possess.

@@catfishmamba6611 I've never seen a flathead caught on chicken. Where I live we don't have blues this far up the Ohio. So I just stick with crappy, blue gill, and creek chubs. Chubs just seem to do the best in my area for Flatheads. Sure would like to catch some big blues, but it just ain't gonna happen unless I go south.

@@catfishmamba6611 I'm about 20 or so miles from the beginning of the Ohio on the PA Ohio state lines. I heard a few years ago they were gonna try to re introduce them in this area, but I haven't heard anything on that lately. I heard they were catching as far north as the Weirton area I believe.
First videos of yours that I've watched and I laughed through most of it. Growing up my cousin and I used what ever we could take from my aunt's fridge and chicken was one of them but we mostly used frozen hotdogs
Guess I will have to try drifting some chicken on the Ohio river and see what happens.

Hey Dave! I also tried chicken this year. I usually of cut perch in our lake. But in my video, chicken won here also. I used the jello and surprisingly it caught more fish and on my sisters pole too! Keep up the videos. My whole family likes you!
Chicken breast with cherry kool aid is the BEST bait for channel catfish. That’s why people catch small fish on it. A huge channel is 10 pounds. I’ve fished area’s with blues and flathead and never caught one. I figure flathead will go for it but nothing yet. If you want a bait to catch all 3 species of catfish use cut bait. I use cut carp and buffalo to catch blues and flathead and I DISAGREE with you about sandy cooper. The king of big catfish lakes is 50 minutes from me and it’s called lake Tawakoni. Texoma, Lewisville, Toledo Bend are all great catfish lakes in my area. Tawakoni is the king. Lake record blue is 90 pounds. I think the lake record flathead is 75 and the lake record channel is 30. Ps i use carp and buffalo because they’re invasive and easy to catch. It’s a unlimited source of bait
I catch Blue Cat all the time on Kool Aid chicken breast. I'm in DFW too. Deiter Melhorn has caught some big fish on it. Biggest blue I've caught was 12.5 lbs, and it was caught on Koolaid Chicken, with fresh minced garlic. Went out Sunday, and it was the only thing I could get them to bite on. Side by side with live shad, and cut shad. Just depends on the situation.
Rivers produce way better fish. 90lb blues are pretty common on the James River here in Richmond Va. state record is over 120. I think the world record blue cat might be from here too
Its SANTEE COOPER SC. and, it consists of 2 enormous lakes( at some places from 1 bank all you see is water it is so far across you cannot see across to the other bank) . Lake Marion and, Lake Moultrie. I don't know record fish stats but, they are the most well known lakes of the eastern USA.
Flatheads are a little different than the other species. They are by far the most predatory compared to the other two, hence why in some areas of the country people live by using live bait for them. One such area is where I’m from in Iowa, I don’t personally know anyone who routinely targets flatheads with cut bait. However, my personal best was actually caught on a cut up green sunfish. I think generally speaking flatheads certainly prefer fish in general, and if you are going to use cut bait, the fresher the better. In fact, if I plan on using cut bait to target them (with the hope I won’t get bombarded with channel catfish) I’ll try to keep my bait alive until I’m ready to cut it up. I frequently do this for baits like sunfish and bluegill, which lack the oils that baits like shad or skipjack possess.
@@davidwalker6438 biggest blue I’ve caught is just over 70 on cut Shad. My largest flathead 43 on a live white perch.
