Hi Dave, you remind me of my years when I was in my 20's fishing the Connecticut River back in the 70's I am now 78 years old in a Wheel chair love your video's THANKS.!!!!!
Dave, there is nothing like catching a 40 pounder + to put a Big-Ass smile on your face. For someone who usually wears a straight face even when describing a stray cat as a mountain lion ... the smile was a delight to see.
Hmm. I'm having trouble catching Skipjacks right now but do have some Spanish Mackerel in my freezer from a trip last month. I brought home 60 lbs of fillets but turns out, I'm not too fond of how mackerel tastes. It is very oily...you have me curious now about using some of it to go after blues.
@@danielteague5395 note that experienced fishermen don't use fillets for bait Cut them in chunks across the body. Small cats, sunfish, etc., will eat up your fillet quickly. Suggest you bleed SM fillets, brine soak and smoke and eat them with beer. If you have to use them for bait, expect a stripped off SM with little or no clicker alarm.
@@larrytischler570 I had the mackerels filleted with the intent of eating them. I had never caught any before. We caught mackerel and mahi mahi. The mahi mahi was great...the mackerel not so much. I figured trying to use it for bait would be better than than throwing it all away.
I absolutely love your videos! My dad would send my cousin and I to the creek with hotdogs and chicken livers for small catfish...we would keep them alive and then my dad would fish with the catfish live the next day for BIG FLATHEADS!!! Santee and Big Pee Dee Rivers! 30 years later and I'm catchin the flatheads now!
My favorite video so far from you Catfish Dave. Bank fishing using catfish for bait. This was exactly me a couple weeks back. Started late and couldn't catch a bluegill to save my life at 11pm. But some lunch meat from an Italian hoagie caught me a bullhead, which then I cut up and used to take a 17pound channel kitty home. There's more to the bait choice that is relatable to this video. But I'm not here to rant. Love your content CD!
Nice fish Dave, I would not want to be a small blue cat around a big blue or a flat head after watching your video this morning. Tite lines and big Catfish brother. Much Peace and Love from North East Texas.
Dave, I have been catfishing here in Minnesota for quite a few years I have been using a bait that I never see you try but it works very well and it's similar to your catfish bait, it's bullheads. I have tried skipjack, bluegill, shad and a few others where availabl and legal but my goto bait is bulkhead either cut or live.
Love to see you smiling Dave!!!!! First time I see you smiling that's s good thing brother! And I think that mountain cat was the same cat from the other video in that park wen you was knight fishing 🤘😆🤘you are the best! You Dagblasted!!! 😂
You r the best I’ve seen Dave and u prove it moving around not just in one spot my respects I wish I could b in your waters I stay I. California and I love to catfish but there’s mostly channels cat but I love watching your videos one day I’ll go down there thank u for your videos dave
Nice night 😘 Now I'm going to have to try that one. Thanks for the tip on the knot. We used one similar fishing for sharks in the mouth of pearl harbor. Since I retired from the USN it's cats in AZ. Still a lot of fun. Good luck and may your bait forever be wet.
Dave?...You, sir, are an effing stud. Your adaptability and entertaining mein are video gold, bro. Here is my fishing mantra that I use to be a successful angler: You have to be at the right place, at the right time.. With the right gear and the right frame of mind.
Good video and good music Dave! Thanks for taking care of these big fish like you do. I do the same. Its good to know not all of our big trophy size cats around here get put on a stringer. Fine job sir!
Hello from Cookeville neighbor. Love your videos.. I am an OTR Driver and watch you while I am out here. I like to fish Cordell Hull a lot but have never went after catfish. Looks like I may be changing that when I get the time.
Good video thanks for the good information as always. The only catfish legal for bait here in Missouri are bullheads. I wish we had skipjack here. I use mainly bluegill, gizzard shad and sometimes little carp or buffalo.
Greetings from Ivanhoe, Virginia. Videos are awesome Dave. Me and my son watch them all the time and then hit the river by our house. No monsters this year but plenty of stories and fun especially during these uncertain times.
Good video Dave . We been useing babycatfish here in GA for a while but I have been useing carp for cut bait and getting big respectable flatheads on them too. I scale them and cut fillet off and leave the skin on.Its thick and tuff . They been catching me more fish than Shad and Bream it can be used in rugged 6 mile casts over and over.
Nice night of fishing!! I've used your advice about what the catfish eat in my local waters. I know there are Carp there, so i bought a small carp at the store. Haven't caught anything yet, but the theory makes sense. Also, you're lucky, that clicker saved your life from the mountain lion!!😂👍🎣tight lines Dave!
I expected to see you using that carp's head from the previous video for bait. Many thanks for producing the very best fishing channel on UA-cam!! I'm always looking forward to the next one.
For those of us who eat them, you are throwing away some fine eating. But I do it as well. Great 40 pounder on the blue cat!! Nice video Dave, keep them coming!
I love Channel cat. I cut the red meat strip out that makes the Fillet taste fishy and save it for Bait along with the stomach. That's being a conservationist. LMAO!! I never used the circle hooks until recently and used many catfish that swallowed the hook. Learned that about circle hooks on these videos. Thank You. Red River of the North.
Hey Dave, some freaking awesome fish enjoyed the video, there is an older feller here in Texas I know ,he uses channel cat for cut bait and catches really big catfish, and said thats all uses, uses very small shad to catch the channel cat, thanks for sir very nice
Dave, I've never used catfish as cutbait, but I used to take a small hook and a small bit of nightcrawler to catch 6 to 12 inch channel cats. Then clip their barbs off with wire cutters. They would bleed a bit. But best flathead bait you can use.
Dave you might want to put a disclaimer in the video about checking state laws on using Certain baits. I know in Texas its illegal to use game fish like catfish for bait. But I do love watching your videos.
Question: What length are the rods? I'm eating catfish for lunch. I wonder of catfish nuggets (aka belly flaps) would work. They are easier to catch than a whole fish. My local grocery has them on sale.right now.
Great video Dave! What kind of lights do you use? I am going to go to the beginning and watch all your videos in order to further my education!! I wanna be like Dave when (if) I grow up! WOOOOOO!!
Dave that’s a respectable fish like always the sad thing is you have catch the small fish to get the big boys to come get some I went Saturday afternoon in twenty mile an hour winds with drum for bait and got a nice twenty pound blue for the lake I fish Great job Dave like your video’s
They did a study here in Eastern Virginia because the watermen were claiming that the Blue Cats were eating up all the Blue Crabs. The watermen want the catfish fished out. The study was pretty extensive. They found that the cats mostly ate plants, shad, juvenile blue cats and yes, a few Blue Crabs. along with just about everyother type of fish that swims. Crabs made up less than 10% of their diet. Surprisingly, the catfish they ate was a significant percentage - enough to categorize them as cannibalistic. Still, the state is looking to expand the commercial fishing they allow on catfish to try to hold back their numbers and appease the commercial fishing lobby. When I have trouble catching white perch or bluegills for bait I go after a catfish next. A bullhead or channel cat is a prized bait.I love these videos of yours.
Got me some toys Dave. Abu Garcia 6500, Penn 209 AND a Daiwa Sealine -X 40 HV. Gonna do tha Big Blue Boogie! Crazy Albright? Never heard of it. Albright. Yes. Alberto. Yes. Crazy Alberto. Went to school with him.
The Mountain Lion was my favorite..!!🤘🦁...Good job my friend on surviving the approach,,,,,,also good job on your catch !!!! ..And the stories of who caught how BIGGG -somewhere in Bum Fukt' Egypt -Deliverance‐Ville well,, until that video hits UA-cam, it's just wasted AIR on their part..!!!..I Do not Freshwater fish (Saltwater Only)but, your video's are believable and quality fish are caught keep it up.! 👍
Enjoy watching your show, you are using catfish for bait ,if you really want the best try striper, cut in stripes try getting the red meat you will be amazed.
I had a friend that fell asleep fishing, when he woke up he had a 60 lb. Flathead with a 3 lb Flathead in it's mouth with no hook in it. The hook was in the small ones mouth.
I've caught channel cats using yellow bullhead as bait here in PA. Usually, the big ones take the bullhead. Plus, it weeds out the other yellow bullhead. I don't do it often, because I don't like killing catfish, but I figure one every once in awhile is okay.
Catfish Dave please help I just bought a sealine 50 x Sha I have a question. Once you cast out after you set your rod down can I flip the level to the off position does that mean it's in free spool? So a fish can't take the bait and I can hear the clicker going and then turn the lever to the on position. I watched your sealine 40 vid that was screaming line did you flip the lever to the on position once you picked it up? Sorry if this is confusing but I'm new to this and your knowledge is greatly appreciated 🙏
I told you to use catfish to catch catfish like a year ago dave. I use cut channel cat to catch bigger channel cats all the time. If you can get some live bull head catfish like 7 to 8 inch, you would slay the big flat heads and blues all day long.
Hi Dave,
you remind me of my years when I was in my 20's fishing the Connecticut River back in the 70's I am now 78 years old in a Wheel chair love your video's THANKS.!!!!!
Catching cats with cat bait. Oh yeah , I always knew ( in my knower ) that it would work ! Thanks Dave as always ,enjoyed your video !!!
Dave, there is nothing like catching a 40 pounder + to put a Big-Ass smile on your face. For someone who usually wears a straight face even when describing a stray cat as a mountain lion ... the smile was a delight to see.
Dave there is a old Veteran that bank fishes in SC, his favorite bait is channel cats. He catches 40s, 50s and 60s . It’s a great bait.🇺🇸
What rivers or lakes does he fish? Im in upstate SC and could you some info.

Yessir!!!......it works here in Oklahoma
Did you use bull-heads as live bait, cut bait or both?
I have used both....with success...I always cut a small slit along the dorsal ...just enough to make it bleed
