    The "other Confederate gentleman" is Lt. Colonel Walter Herron Taylor. He was General Lee's adjutant throughout the entire war. He is from Norfolk, Va where he lived his entire life. Also the author of several books about the war including "Four Years with General Lee".

    How nice to see Southern heroes and scenes presented so respectfully. Bravo! My family of dislocated Virginians toured the Marshall house 60 years ago but this is the first I've heard of the Stewart-Lee House.

    His home was his wifes where all that fell in battle were laid at his door step.

    Richmond Virginia is full of treasures. If you come to the city to visit, bring your children and don't forget to visit Maymont Park while you are at it. There is something for everyone. Also, the lobby of the old City Hall building, which was narrowly saved from the wrecking ball is a marvel to look at. Then there's the old 'refurbished' Train Depot on 5th Street, which my family always referred to as the 'fairytale' building, with all of it interesting dormers and steep pitched roof. Richmond was decked out with monuments before the woke crowd decided to come in and destroy history on Monument Ave. They should rename the street Demolition Ave, now. It would be a just title now that the monuments are gone. History should be taught, not erased. Kudos to the preservationists that saved this house.

      When I lived in Richmond back in the 1970s our family would go to Roy's for burgers and fries and take them to Maymont Park and feed the squirrels some of our fries. The squirrels would take them from your hand.

      “Woke crowd” as opposed to unconscious undesirables?

    This was also a small restaurant named "Traveller's" in the '80's & '90's. Unfortunately, I never went in.

    The famous picture of Lee by Brady has also in it Walter Herron Taylor who was his adjutant. Taylor is buried in Norfolk, his home town.

    It's interesting that Virginia, would allow that much of modern buildings and new structures to be placed in such proximity around such a historic site.

    Great drone footage, have walked past the outside, but never got to see the back porch where the picture was taken. I think at one time the Virginia Historical Society was using it for a research library before they moved everything to the former Battle Abbey (its current site).

    I wonder how this guy was never arrested and put on trial after losing the Civil War to the Union.

    • @sawahtb
      @sawahtb 2 місяці тому

      The Union recognized the popularity of Robert E. Lee and they were trying to maintain the peace. The same idea happened with the Emperor of Japan at the end of WWII, they needed to respect the Emperor in order to keep the population cooperative.

      Secession was not illegal (and still is legal to this day). Because a trial would publicize that lack of legal grounds, Confederates were not put on trial after the war unless they had committed acts that were actually criminal.
