The note from Helen Keller was truly special. Consider she spent her young life trapped in her head, unable to communicate with others. The letter she sent, which you so kindly read for us, was a gem.
Sad to say that I lived near Indianapolis for 20 years and never visited this home. What a treasure! Thank you for highlighting President Harrison and teaching us more about him.
I'm near the Nixon and 😅 Reagan Libraries but I'll probably never visit them either. I used to visit a part of the Reagan Ranch. Western; wH where there; was a playground with a ton of hay bales to play on and snacks.
How beautiful this house is. Just unbelievable that 80% is original. OMG the Reginaphone is so special. I loved this tour, thank you for the invitation!
Once again, thank you JD! I now look forward to seeing your videos on Sunday. I loved everything here, from the portraits, to Abraham Lincoln's signature, to Helen Keller's letter. Your enthusiasm brings the history alive.
Hey, at least the guy came out to run for the Presidency rather than from his basement like "Somebody." Throughout history, you notice you learn more about someone's great accomplishments from historical experts rather than from school or some books. Love the furniture and the fine details in the wood! Thanks for another wonderful adventure!
I wonder how much land Harrison owned around his home when he was alive, it saddens me that a busy street is right at his doorstep. Beautiful home, glad there are so many original pieces still there. 👍🏼
What a unique historical story, wasn't taught in school to me... Wonderful video! Learned a good bit today that I was unaware of about this man and his family. All the history within those walls. Again, well done! You be safe and take care.
Well done. Thank you for bringing Benjamin Harrison's life & career to the forefront. Fascinating. Your videography continues to be outstanding. Loved the Reginaphone. Keep saving your money for the Hawaii history tour! lol
It's nice to see the house and contents are well taken care of and on display. Another visit to someplace I didn't know about and may want to visit some day. Thanks for the video.
Right now they're talking about reparations I think the reparations have already been paid back in full with the blood of the white soldiers that fought through free them our forefathers wanted them free from the beginning of this country with the declaration of Independence but two states wouldn't sign so it was not you anonymous so it was removed and remember Jefferson legally couldn't free his own slaves it was forbidden by Virginia law The original draft of the would have abolished slavery

What an absolute honor that document would have meant to Harrison just days later after A.Lincolns death.. I am so happy to see they have it under glass and light covering ...so many can see for years to come still
I am addicted to history. I live in Indy but have only driven by this house. The street is one great house after another. I have read extensively about Wm. Henry Harrison. He is pretty much the villain in every old western in the flesh. Obviously his grandson didn't steal all the natives land but he lived off the reputation. Allan Eckhart wrote a series of great books describing the move west and the settling of the colonies, Ky, In etc. Great stuff.

Definitely phenomenally well done and informative the commentary is spot on between you and the green family it would take me three lifetimes to learn it all on on top of right I already have stored in the memory banks of my mind that being said this country is worth fighting for again and ever how many more times it takes it took a lot of blood to produce this history
I really appreciate the attention and the time you took to tour this beautiful home that is 8u0% original to the home, and also to the History of a Great and Decent President that should get more attention for all that he did during his life and during his presidency. again, thank you...
I agree, alot of the wives back then wouldn't have got the recognition that they truly deserved.... So yes it was refreshing to hear about Harrison's beautiful wife 🖤
Fabulous show, thank you for sharing. As it happens the Harrisons are distant relatives. I'd heard uncle & nephew but thanks to you its grandparents. My grandmother's madian name was Harrison.
Oh my I just watched this! Magnificent! Gosh that house is amazingly filled with such beautiful antiques. I love history and antiques, so its a real treat for me to see the inside of such a home! Especially since it is probably over a thousand miles from me. Thank you for this video. I will be watching this again!
One of my favorite tours ever. The letter from Helen Keller was amazing. I learned so much touring the Harrison’s beautiful home. I really enjoyed the history of all the inhabitants one as much as the others I, too was wanting to hear more of the quilts on the beds as I have done only a small amount of quilting since I started so late in life. Makes me wish I had started earlier in life. Thanks so much for all you do and for allowing me to go along on your tours. Texas 🇺🇸
I am so grateful to you for your historical videos. I hated history in school. But spending time doing genealogical research American history became personal and very real. Part of my family arrived in Jamestown in 1700. They participated in the Rev War and the Civil War. (And all other wars until Desert Storm). If I had had history teachers like you I might have been smitten with the history bug earlier. Just recently, another channel on You Tube, "Paper and Moose" purchased a box of stuff at an estate sale. In the box were 3 hand written Civil War diaries written by a Union Captain. Can you imagine? Your mind is racing to comprehend just like the rest of us!! Again, I sincerely thank you for the time and effort put into your videos. I did get to the 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg and got to walk Pickets Charge where so many of my Southern relatives died. They died together. It was a somber, poignant, sad, and magical place.
Wow! What a house. I kind of wish the neighborhood around it could look as it did back when the Harrisons lived there. Thank you for taking me on a virtual tour. Oh - and the Reginaphone - I'm amazed that it still plays and the tour guide was willing to play it. The sound just filled the room. I have an LP of recordings of different music boxes, one of which is a Reginaphone, and I play that album every Christmas. And I agree with you, that it wouldn't be bad to have another president like Benjamin Harrison in the White House. We so need honesty in our leaders today.
The whole tour was wonderful, but there were three things that really caught my eye. I always enjoy the kitchen area, especially wood cook stoves. Second was Mrs. Harrison was a very talented Artist. And last but surely not least, The Presidents beautiful bed!! As a former wood worker the craftsmanship, no "Artistry" of that is incredible! I could only venture a guess how long it would take to create such a work! I appreciate seeing this! Thank you. On a side note, my three brothers and I were all born at St. Vincent's hospital, Down town Indianapolis.
Thank you for such a great time travel, great to have such awesome people give us way to not only enjoy the history but a distraction from the issues we have currently.
I have enjoyed every episode so far! Was stuck at home for last week due to the winter storms we just recently had, and came across your videos. I ended up binge watching all your videos. I love history and you do a great job filming the artifacts and the history of our nation, and the history of our great war heroes . God Bless, and I can't wait to see more.
I love visiting historic homes of famous people from years ago. In fact they don’t even have to be famous I just love the era of the 1700-1800’s. Great video thanks! 👍
I bet it sure is a crappy time to have your wonderful name. I personally have always been fond of the name Karen. Anyways, I to love them really old homes, I wish I had the money to own one. Where ever That town would be, means I would probably be living in the historical district of that town. My historical district is gorgeous!
There is a channel here on UA-cam called The Second Empire Strikes Back, and the man on there purchased the home of a man named Charles Brown (no, not the school kid with the black and white beagle!) whose ancester was the reason for the name of Brownsville (?) in New Jersey. He owned the local wood tool plant in St. Louis, and he had quite the history. This man is restoring this old Victorian mansion and plans to live in it. Quite interesting.
@@chadanderson8692 I didn’t like it at first but now I’m use to it. I just have to ignore the haters and your right it’s not a bad name. Thanks for acknowledging that.
Had a 10th grade history teacher who made History so exciting bc he told the vivid stories like he loved them. First time in a country girls life I thought to THINK of important Events in our past and what we learned.
My grandparents in Minnesota had a sterling silver and crystal pickle jar, which they used until they died. They were not rich by any means. It was a gift to my great grandparents, who would have lived around that same time. Keep in mind, pickles way back when, were often canned in barrels and/or huge crocks, not table-top jars. So the fancy pickle jar was not only pretty, but useful as well.
My hat is off to you. This was awesome. It was very interesting and informative. Thank you so much for this episode. It's also wonderful to see how well everything was preserved and taken care of. Would love to see it in person.

I'll have to agree with Daniel the tour guide. The study is my favorite room too. I love the artifacts and portraits in that room. Never knew the relationship he had with Lincoln. Very cool!!
How interesting! I've loved history as long as I can remember. I was more drawn to the history of England & Scotland. Your videos have totally changed how I think about these United States. I'm curious! We're planning road trips to explore & discover more! Thank you for sharing & making a difference!

I stumbled across this video and am so glad I did. We've gone by the I-65 exit saying "Benjamin Harrison Home" so many times, but have never stopped. I'm even a born Hoosier and didn't know all this. Now old and in a sort of covid lockdown in a rural area I'm so thankful to be able to travel because you took the time to go there. Thank you so much.
Hello, I'm a new subscriber from Al, I love anything to do with history, the letter from Hellen Keller brought tears to my eyes, I live in the same county where the Hellen Keller School for the Blind is built, I had just heard a small bit of information on President Harrison a few weeks ago, yes he seemed to be one of the greats, what an amazing home, thanks for sharing, I'm loving your channel
Thank you for this history lesson ! I found as I've watched and listened to you about history ! I've come to love history more than I had thought I would have years ago ! Maybe it's my old age showing through by loving history or that you make it more interesting than my teachers did years ago ! Take care , stay safe and healthy with whatever you maybe doing next ! Doing better now that the cold has gone some here in Kansas .
Fantastic. Your cinematography in this episode is beautiful. I had no idea I wanted to know anything about this president, or that he even existed, but you taught me so much! Thank you for all your efforts
Another fascinating video. I wish we would have learned more about him in school! He sounds like a great man, thank you for opening my eyes to a man that history seems to push to the background. I need to do some more research on this man.
Outstanding, JD! Daniel was our tour guide in 2019. He is a fine fella.... President Harrison was born 10 minutes from my house in Cincinnati, Ohio (Village of North Bend, Ohio).
Thank you very much. I really enjoyed it. And don’t forget to make a note-literally-when you get back near north Alabama, get with me to go to Helen Keller’s home place.
Good job showcasing this amazing historic home in Indianapolis! I’ll have to check it out sometime! I really loved how you edited and arranged your footage. The mix of the b roll shots helps to tell the story!
wow I love the crazy quilts on the (adult) beds! I wish you could have gotten a closer picture of it during the tour. Same for the simple pattern quilt on baby crib
Such a fantastic video. I'm a history nerd to the extreme and always enjoy learning more. What an incredible President Ben Harrison was. We were way more environmentally friendly back then. We were more genuine as a society in his era. What a family too. A family that helped build this country. Amazing
I am so glad that I found your channel. I thoroughly enjoy each of your videos (I've watched quite a few recently) and find many fascinating and interesting details that you and/or the tour guide point out. The work that you do is greatly appreciated. Thank you and happy 4th of July to you.
This is the second video that I have seen. I really liked it. Yesterday I watched the video about the Vice President’s house and the tour of the embassies. I lived and worked in the D C area but never saw the embassies. It was very interesting. I will continue to watch your videos.
Amazing as always! I had no idea of President Harrison’s contributions as well as his wife’s extreme artistic talents. Please take a look at the home of James Madison. It is called Montpelier. There’s quite a transformation. If you google James Madison’s home you can click the images. Look for the Colonial Williamsburg link. It has all the images of how it started out, on up. We toured it years ago and it will take your breath away. This would be a great subject for probably a video or two. Blessings!
I’m still trying to catch my breath. I’m just in awww. That home was absolutely beautiful n I could of lived in that time except I’d want inside plumbing for a bathroom 😊. I am so happy that you went there n shared it all. It was amazing to see all that furnishings so well preserved. Oh, those stairs with that beautiful light at the beginning. I love every second of this n many thank you’s. I would love to gone there but unfortunately my husband has dementia n I can’t travel with him like that. It was our desire when we retired to travel to all these historical places. So thankful I found your channel through Robert “ sidestep adventures “. ♥️♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍👍👍🥰🥰
I liked everything about this home! I am from Grand Rapids Mi., home of Gerald Ford, we have a great big presidential museum for him but I tell you nothing compares to a home like this. Very interesting and now I want to learn more about this president so thank you 😊
@@TheHistoryUnderground that museum is really fantastic, and I know they have his house he grew up in as a historical site, I’ve never been there, but I was very impressed with all the furnishing and other historical things in this home! Very cool! 👍🏻☺️
I toured this house back in the 90's. One of my favorite President homes. I brought some hollyhock seeds home with me and planted in my garden. I suppose Caroline planted them. Also visited the James Whitcomb Riley home there. Another beautiful home.
Our family has a Regina. It was my mom's favorite. I liked it too just not as an alarm clock in the morning, her way to get us up in the morning. She bought a reproduction disc that plays the wedding march, so lovely. Thanks for the tour, another great one.
What a beautiful home! I love the architecture and that front porch is to die for. I grew up close to the Harry Truman home in Independence Mo. you could often drive by and wave at him on his front porch. He carried the weight of those atomic bombs on his shoulders til the day he died
There is a plaque in a cemetery in the Greene County, TN area that says the Harrisons buried there are related to the two President Harrisons. I just found this out yesterday, so I don't know how they are related yet. I'm distantly related to those Harrisons.
That house fits my personality. Totally BEAUTIFUL IN EVERY WAY. Kind of felt like I lived there. The stairs, the carpet of the stairs and all the furniture and colors. I truly have never seen a house so beautiful in my life...Thank you. I Love your channel
What an interesting and well-done video! May I offer a suggestion for the front parlor/rug problem? I worked at a historical home near my home. It had been inhabited, changed, enlarged, etc. since the late 1790s until the 1950s. When it became a historical home, the foundation doing the work tried to find out about the original condition. They found a piece of wallpaper under five or six layers of later paper, and we able to reproduce the original paper. I don't know if this could be done for a rug, but you might check.

Incredibly interesting ❤️ Thank you for sharing. I love exploring these historically sites. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! I had fun putting this one together.
Thanks! I really enjoyed putting this one together. Glad to hear that the cold has subsided a bit :)
Beautiful, he is my great grandfather!!!!
Fantastic. Your cinematography in this episode is beautiful. I had no idea I wanted to know anything about this president, or that he even existed, but you taught me so much! Thank you for all your efforts
Wow, thank you! So glad that you enjoyed it :)
Another fascinating video. I wish we would have learned more about him in school! He sounds like a great man, thank you for opening my eyes to a man that history seems to push to the background. I need to do some more research on this man.
History doesn’t like to teach you about Republicans.
Glad you enjoyed it! I've enjoyed learning more about him.
Outstanding, JD! Daniel was our tour guide in 2019. He is a fine fella.... President Harrison was born 10 minutes from my house in Cincinnati, Ohio (Village of North Bend, Ohio).
When i visited this presidential home they had First Ladies Ball gowns and some of their dresses on exhibition. So beautiful!!
Love your channel so very much! Thank You Sir for all that you share and do 💙☮️💫
Thank you kindly
The woodwork of the house is so beautiful
Very much so.
Nailed it. Another great episode. Tons of good stuff. It was like taking a walk back in time. 👍
Thanks! It really is a time capsule that they have there.
Thank you so very much for this beautiful wonderful memory!!! To be able to make it there would be a dream come true!
This was great. Now I'm wanting to do more research. The historian tour guide is a real attention keeper. Hooked on this channel. 👍🇺🇸❤️
Just wait until he can do a video on the basement Joe Biden hid in during his campaign 🤣
Awesome, thank you!
If History repeats itself then this channel is endless.
THANK YOU DANIEL AND HISTORY TRAVELER FOR a another great video 👍👍
Thank you too for watching!
Thank you very much. I really enjoyed it. And don’t forget to make a note-literally-when you get back near north Alabama, get with me to go to Helen Keller’s home place.
Thanks. Maybe shoot me an email.
Thank you for vlogging an impotant piece of our history. Much of the info was new to me. Never heard of the Reginaphone either, Thanks!
Amazing
Loved the Reginaphone!, this whole vlog was excellent!
Love the Benjamin Harrison home. One of my favorite Presidential homes.
Definitely a time capsule.
Thanks! So glad that you are enjoying the content.
Which video had the Vice President’s house? Must have missed that one.

Blessings!
On the list. Thanks!
Very interesting and now I want to learn more about this president so thank you 😊
Hmmm.....I may have to make a trip to Grand Rapids at some point. Glad that you enjoyed it!
@@TheHistoryUnderground that museum is really fantastic, and I know they have his house he grew up in as a historical site, I’ve never been there, but I was very impressed with all the furnishing and other historical things in this home! Very cool! 👍🏻☺️
One of the most Extremly well done pieces of our country's history. THANK YOU !
I toured this house back in the 90's. One of my favorite President homes. I brought some hollyhock seeds home with me and planted in my garden. I suppose Caroline planted them. Also visited the James Whitcomb Riley home there. Another beautiful home.
I'll have to check that one out on a return visit. Quite the place!
Seeing how the music worked and hearing it was amazing. I’ve been so interested in that time period and never saw this technology.
Wonderful, and different presentation. Loved it, very interesting and informative, as per usual. Thanks
Thanks again!
i love your channel, thank you so much.
👍🏻
I just recently found your channel. I’m really enjoying it! Thanks.
Awesome! Thank you!
William Henry Harrison is my 5th Great grandfather. I love seeing videos like this on the Harrison side of my family. Thank you
Are you kin to the Harrisons that were mayors of Chicago? Carter H. Harrison Sr. and Jr. I read they were related to the president.
There is a plaque in a cemetery in the Greene County, TN area that says the Harrisons buried there are related to the two President Harrisons. I just found this out yesterday, so I don't know how they are related yet. I'm distantly related to those Harrisons.
Great editing! Thanks for a fascinating video.
Many thanks!
Fascinating, Thank You!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your a great host, keep up the great work!
All your tours of the President's homes are so good. Thank you.
Great tour, what a home and a fascinating family!
That house fits my personality. Totally BEAUTIFUL IN EVERY WAY. Kind of felt like I lived there. The stairs, the carpet of the stairs and all the furniture and colors. I truly have never seen a house so beautiful in my life...Thank you. I Love your channel
Never knew about Harrisons commitment to conservation! That puts him up a few notches in my book!
👍🏻
What an interesting and well-done video! May I offer a suggestion for the front parlor/rug problem? I worked at a historical home near my home. It had been inhabited, changed, enlarged, etc. since the late 1790s until the 1950s. When it became a historical home, the foundation doing the work tried to find out about the original condition. They found a piece of wallpaper under five or six layers of later paper, and we able to reproduce the original paper. I don't know if this could be done for a rug, but you might check.
That was a great video. I didn’t know much about him. Thank you for always doing so much great detail and information.
Glad you enjoyed!
Daniel deserves a raise for his spectacular presentation!
