I could spend hours here, listening to the stories passed down through the years and embracing a time that today's technology has taken over. Thank you for your brief visit and the beautiful sharing of memories.
I toured this home in 1990s. An older lady was so funny. When John Ford came to town to look at sites to film the movie, The Horse Soldiers. He wanted authentic-looking uniforms and was told that Green Leaves had some originals. But the matriarch said no to John Ford on borrowing the uniforms for the costume designer. Finally, Ford sent John Wayne. JW heard the old matriarch enjoyed an afternoon toddy. So he brought some sort of liquor and he hey visited all afternoon. An interviewer once asked John Wayne if anyone had ever drunk him under the table. JW said that the only person who did was a little old southern lady in Natchez, MS. I can’t remember if Ford got to see the uniforms or not because I love that a little old Southern lady held her liquor before him!
I love and appreciate all this family has done to preserve this beautiful old house, all it's furnishings, architecture, family portraits, history, everything right on down to the original wallpaper, carpets, curtains. It's really fascinating and quite wonderful. I love the old camelias, the old live oak and the grounds. I hope this gem stays as well preserved and cared for as it's family has done on into the future. Thanks for sharing!
Green Leaves is one of my favorite houses in Natchez. I have toured it many times over the years, and I learn something new each time I visit. This video doesn't even begin to cover all of the history and family memorabilia. It is an incredible chapter of Natchez history, and so well-preserved. A must see while visiting Natchez during Pilgrimage.
Fantastic to see a home in the family with its many mementos of the past generations along with many original furnishings. Thank you for sharing your beautiful and historic home.
I'm only 8 minutes and 2 seconds into the video and I am gobsmacked! I can't even imagine living in a home that's been in the family since 1839! By the time I was 11 we moved about 40 times and lived in 2 different countries back and forth. To have all the family belongings is absolutely amazing!!! It's BEAUTIFUL! Keep bringing videos like these.
She is wonderful…and so is her home! I love that they live in their home. It looks like they love it and I love that. Celebrate who you were, are, and hope to be. This home is loved and lived in. Thank you for the tour. ☺️
It is well taken care of, but it still has that family lived in feel. It is amazing that the original family still owns this house. Which to me, makes it a historical, living, family tree. Just the stories she has told here tells a history. She is so charming and gracious. Thank her from all of us, for allowing us in to her home.
What a lovely, gracious hostess--to escort us through her interesting home. It means so much more to have a surviving descendant show a home. She is a wonderful advocate for Natchez & the home tour. Thank you for this vid.
What an extraordinary time capsule. What an exquisite home. I have a bucket list going and this beautiful place is now on it. Thank you sharing and God bless
Love that she said they can't change anything and are known for never throwing anything away. Makes perfect sense to me. 🤣 You end up with history and a beautiful home. Appreciate the tour, and the video was fantastic. ❤️🤍💙
What a charming, gracious home and tour guide. I love all the original details: the gorgeous wallpaper, the gasoliers, the furniture and textiles. I'm going to have to plan a trip to see these beautiful homes! We still have a few feet of snow on the ground up here in Minnesota so it was lovely to see some green in the garden, even without the flowers.
I love her accent and speech. My grandmother came from an old southern family and spoke just like her, though a little softer, but the inflections are the same.
This really is a time capsule, and the documentation they've accumulated is impressive. So many Americans have lost their family treasures and histories along with their homes. Many of us have too much 'old stuff', but hope to keep the most memorable. In the cabinet at 5:40 there is a ceramic figurines of a little boy in a blue sailor suit on the left of the top shelf. I have one very much like it, that was part of a set from my father's childhood in the 1930s. The set had four little sailors, four soldiers, and four little pilots with WWI style helmets, goggles, and scarves. The true pleasure in learning about the Koontz family history is knowing there is another generation waiting to take over stewardship of this home.
What a beautiful house with such history! I love Ms. Ruthie’s stories! It’s amazing that this home has been in the same family for so many generations. ❤
Just wonderful. If I ever get back to Natchez (I'm a native Missouran living in Sydney) I will definitely visit. I appreciate all of the love going into these homes and tip my hat to those that care for them through the decades. They are precious, and so is what remains of history. X
thank you so much for the visit of your home and the stories you did have the time to tell. wonderful, just wonderful that a family has taken the time and love to pass this home down from generation to generation along with it's history, stories, pictures, plants... all of it!
Wow! That home was incredible! Items that I thought stood out were that family Bible and the old Oak Tree in the courtyard. What a privilege it must be to be able to show your home that's been in your family for so many generations. I would love to be able to tour that house, its on my bucket list!
Just gorgeous! And I love the name, "Green Leaves". We don't name our homes anymore. I call my apartment The Asylum, but I need to stop doing that. Life and death is in the tongue The Lord says. If He said it, I believe it! Thank you for sharing. I don't get out much and I really love old homes. I watched y'all redo one from start to finish. It turned out lovely. Wish I could buy one of these beauties! Maybe someone will just give me one. It doesn't hurt to hope. God bless y'all! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Thank you Ms Ruthie for allowing us a glimpse into your herstory. It has been a privilege. I'm an admirer of the architecture. The sleeping areas designed particularly sub ground level. Fabulous. Can you imagine being commissioned to build an estate in the deep South, before central air or swamp coolers(?)😮 What beautiful condition this magnificent treasure has been maintained. I want to hear more about original lighting, plumbing, and the architects information. Greenleaf is on my must see list. Sincerely, Thank You.
Thank you so much for bringing us all the beautiful historic homes, along with all the history. Thursday's are definitely my favorite day to watchUA-cam. Anyone who loves history this is a must watch place to be
What a Wonderful hostess! She has such a lovely home. It would be wonderful to have the curtains reproduced for that room and perhaps even have a new carpet woven for the floor. In homes like this I wish they all had a way we could support them and give to the restoration needs
Green Leaves; Wow! Ms. Ruthie Coy; Wow! The best history always comes from those who have lived it, share it, and/or maintain it. Now, this is a true historic house! What an outstanding domicile of multi-generational antiquities and historical collections from actual residents, along with familial living archives! Wow! I could spend hours in this house because so much of its past is there. This time, L&K, I ignored that man in the mirror and china cabinet glass door as per your previous suggestion. 😂😂 I really enjoyed this tour. Walking through that house made me feel like I was in the past visiting it's residents because all of their things are still there. Fabulous video, y'all! Thank you!
This lovely home Is on my list to tour when one day we are State side again. I'm sure I can talk a few of my aunts and cousins into taking a girls trip!!! 🥰
That light fixture in the parlor took my breath away. I kept muttering "omg, omg, omg...!" I want to know and befriend the person who would choose such a fixture because we must be spiritual cousins.😍
What a treat to have been afforded the opportunity to tour Green Leaves in this video. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. My partner and I just bought our 2nd. Greek Revival. The 15-bedroom home, known as The Brady House (not that Brady house) LOL, was built in 1827. Our first, an 11-bedroom home was built in 1947, which we painstakingly restored and then sold. The Brady House is a keeper. When we first saw the ad for it, my partner said, "The Realtor really knows how to hype a house". It really was the gem of rare beauty depicted by the Realtor, despite its current state. We learned so much from our first purchase, and now we find ourselves starting all over again, facing new challenges and learning new things -- a never-ending journey of discovery. "What did we just walk into?" was my first question of this much older home steeped in history. We stumped Google with some our questions lol. Listening to your narrative of Green Leaves gave us some good pointers. Thank you for sharing this wonderful and enlightening tour.
Your home is beautiful, so much history! I toured your home the last time I was in Natchez. Where my PA family lives in Bedford PA, they have some Koontz in the area, one bring Dean Koontz the Author.
I enjoy your videos so much, thank you! I have loved all of the houses you have shared so far, but this one has special meaning. How wonderful to have a house in one family for so long. I would love to be able to visit with this delightful owner and have a private tour. I would imagine it would take a whole day and then some. How very specail to have family history like this to pass on to new generations and visitors. Thank you very much for all of your videos. I have been to Natchez twice and toured the stately homes. This is one that I missed and I am sorry for it.
THANK YOU!!!! This home is so Beautiful!!! Just to look at this and think about the family's who have lived here, and how their life and times were is something of a wonder. So glad the family now is keeping all of this for all of use to see!!
Thank you for this video. What a wonderful history to be part of, to be able to share it as well. Also to share it so well. A trip to Natchez is on my bucket list!
Oh, that beautifully ancient live oak in the garden is magnificent! I hope they are able to keep it going for many more years to come. I'm so happy the original builders didn't cut it down and chose to build around this amazing creation of God and nature. Original wallpaper, fauxbois, seven generations, original carpeting in the parlors, a bullet hole in the original glass above the front door, what a true treasure to behold! The china on display is outstanding. To have such a beautiful set displayed in its entirety is just lovely. I'd be afraid to eat off of it for fear of damaging it in some manner. Also love the cane chairs in the dining room in such great condition for their age is incredible. I so want to see more of this glorious house/mansion/treasure! Thank you so much for shedding a light on this living work of art and preservation. See y'all in the next video 👍🥰🤗😘🥰🤗😘🥰🤗😘
I’d Definitely Love to come visit! I live in Kentucky,. But I’ve heard of this home! A friend of mine went on the tour several years ago & one of the main places he talked about was this house! What a great story..amazing
Excellent Memoir
What a wonderful tour. My grandmother knew Ruth Audley Beltzhoover and said that she was a great lady.
I'm usually disappointed when Laine doesn't do the tour but Ruthie is absolutely charming I enjoyed it so much, it brought me joy.

Your 1670 Family Bible in high German - this is amazing. Your family has kept such great care of your heritage. This is so inspiring.
She seems like a sweet lady. Thank you for taking us along

The beautiful trees tell the true age of this amazing home.
What a lovely, gracious hostess--to escort us through her interesting home. It means so much more to have a surviving descendant show a home. She is a wonderful advocate for Natchez & the home tour. Thank you for this vid.
I couldn’t imagine having nearly 200 years of family history let alone a beautiful home full of it.
how wonderful to be able to grow up in a generational home!! its absolutely gorgeous.
That oak tree is amazing! Love the garden as much as the house. 😁
Us too!
Otherworldly trees both front and back- the live oak and magnolia on that high rise framing the house are out of a fantasy

Absolutely beautiful & so very charming! Love that it is still in the same family!
Ruthie was a joy to have as our guide.
That is beautiful! It's great to see the preservation and the home remaining with the same family for so many generations.
Gorgeous piece of history. Ruthie is a gem and I could spend hours listening to her tell of her family.
My parents and I toured Green Leaves in the 70s. We love Natchez!

My ancestors travelled from uk and settled in Pennsylvania, it’s so interesting to see how they moved from there to different parts of the USA
So beautiful. Thank you for the tour from an ancestor, no less! Outstanding history. So interesting.
Lovely!
Wonderful!
