I mean, it's not really 'spend $3500 to fix it' it's more 'don't buy asus in the first place if you actually need thunderbolt. Or even if you don't need it cause it's super shit to market something that doesn't work how it's supposed to. Kinda makes me sad as I've been a die hard Asus motherboard user and recommender for two decades now, based on the fact that they have always just worked with no issues. Might have to start seeing what else is out there now.
@@johngaltline9933 why would look for something else if it worked for you for more than 2 decades? Because her pc had a problem with a port? Doesn’t make much sense does it?
@@NeonNightmares No, because the reason I like Asus is that everything always works. If that is no longer the case the brand no longer has the reason I liked them. It doesn't matter what the feature is, if it's supposed to work, and it doesn't, it's a reason, if not to not buy their stuff, at least to open myself up to other brands. I stopped looking elsewhere because Asus always worked, 100%, with out any issues where as I had had minor issues with countless other brands. if I'm dealing with minor issues anyway, there is no reason to limit selection to only one brand. As an aside, there is zero excuse for every single feature advertised not to to work exactly as it should, every time, on a flagship product, ever, and on more consumer grade products, the excuses fail well over a year after launch. They have had time to fix it and have chosen not to. The person that buys a board with thunderbolt, or whatever high end option, buys it because they need it, the board is useless if the feature it was bought for doesn't work.
@@Rrrrry123 yes, but that is not the point, the point is, they used to be first choice for a valid reason, that reason no longer applies so they no longer have any higher standing than any other brand. The 'i guess it depends how important thunderbolt is' defense is worthless. as I said before, there's no excuse for it not to work. that's like saying your new car is fine because the windshield wipers only stop working when it rains. everything else works fine. it's unacceptable for marketed, standard, features not to work as they should. more so for features found on high end boards where the entire point of buying such products is for those features. Thought I said it in the last post, but I'll say it again, I'm not saying I won't buy Asus, just that this issue removes the reason i previously ONLY bough Asus mother boards. if they are all flaky, I'll buy the one that I like better instead of only looking at one brand. No one ever lost their job buying IBM as they say, because IBM always worked, every time, with no issues. It was worth it.
Eh. A Bricked Motherboard is pretty easy to fix. Just need to override the BIO and flash it. Though if the bricking happens to be more physical...ugh...yeah...got an oven?

@sigma Radiators haven't changed that much in 10 years, as long as it's not corroded or filled with gunk, radiators can last damn near forever if properly installed. Fluids used are usually corrosion resistant (although Linus seems to prefer distilled water in his loops for some reason). The one part that fails in water cooling loops most often is the pump, and the D5 is one of the most reliable pumps out there plus he has 2 pumps in the loop. A 10 year old radiator is still an upgrade over an air cooler or an AIO.

@@RobBroderick44 The reason SSDs are such a huge impact on performance is random read and write compared to an HDD. Even the crappiest SATA SSD will run at least at 20Mb/s random operations while an average HDD will do 0.5Mb/s. The sequential read and write is irrelevant unless you are dealing with a huge flow of data like 4K video encoding. For the OS that runs on random access SATA SSD are about 40-50 times faster than HDDs. Go with fastest nvme and you will get at most 2-3 times faster random access which won't matter. At this point the OS is the bottleneck not the drive since you can do only so much with parallel programming. As for games if makes no difference once you load the game files in RAM which happens once at game launch and everything after that is dynamically loaded in the background if the devs ware at least half decent at design.

Sadly, this is too often the real world solution to the fail that is the PC industry. The solution is to turn off features that don't work? Imagine if cars worked that way, 'car won't start reliably'. Mechanic, 'well don't turn it off'.
@@allanwilmath8226 Well, yeah. It is how most people live. If you think this suggestion is bad, don't look at how modern medicine and pain management work.

Nobody:
Linus: *Pc doesn't wake from sleep*
Solution: *Spend $3500*
Only Linus could brush off bricking a 2000$ motherboard.
Eh. A Bricked Motherboard is pretty easy to fix. Just need to override the BIO and flash it. Though if the bricking happens to be more physical...ugh...yeah...got an oven?
Company expense..... Besides it's not like he paid for it anyway. It was probably a review sample that just sat at a shelf unused. And he can always just call his contacts and have it replaced for no added cost regardless of warranty.

Linus: **wants to fix wife's pc**
also Linus: **gives her a ten year old radiator**
If it's still okay, why not using it?
@sigma Radiators haven't changed that much in 10 years, as long as it's not corroded or filled with gunk, radiators can last damn near forever if properly installed. Fluids used are usually corrosion resistant (although Linus seems to prefer distilled water in his loops for some reason). The one part that fails in water cooling loops most often is the pump, and the D5 is one of the most reliable pumps out there plus he has 2 pumps in the loop. A 10 year old radiator is still an upgrade over an air cooler or an AIO.
Really hope you make more videos like this: self shot, low key and relaxed. Really enjoyed it

Linus: "it's crazy how many builds I'm taking all the sata cable out of"

The difference between a SATA SSD and NVMe for normal use is almost unnoticeable. I upgraded from an MX500 to a SN750 and did not notice till I timed the bootup with a stopwatch. Even then it was less then a second.
@@groundzero_-lm4md and what about games?
@@gerardonavarro3400 ymmv but no big difference for me, just bought a secondary sata ssd to store games and after transferring library from nvme to sata didnt really notice anything in game
@@gerardonavarro3400 LTT made a video comparing different setups and tested the boot time, game loading, and the employees could barely tell the difference.
