Definitely do the four-wheel-drive conversion. Four wheel drive is a must on any truck. Just like you I could literally get stuck in my driveway without it when it gets really wet and it's just better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it
J. C. Smith is a great guy, he and his wife both will do almost anything for you and the best thing is she is not adverse to stepping right in their and helping him out with anything. Her thing s clean-up of the vehicles, especially the interiors. If you've never seen what she can do to an old beat up interior, you are in for a treat. I bet she could tell you how to clean your carpet to like new in your '95 Powerstroke. J.C. is the man you want to go to with ANY Ford or International problems. If you want to see someone who can weld like an artist, that's J.C.'s son. If you want to see someone who can can build something from nothing, has forgotten more than many of will ever know and is one heck of a wrecker operator besides , vivid Jonathan D's U-tube channel. Great video BTW.
Reminds me of being a little kid, dad had an 03 single cab base model dually with the 8.1 and a 5 speed that was white. I thought that truck was the coolest thing. You gotta love just an ole work truck package rig, there’s something about rubber floors and crank windows.
Weston man I got my back and arm snapped and Broken by a horse 3 days ago and I've been in the hospital for that time and these videos make my day 10 × better
I know all about 2WD it’s funny for years and years we got around in just a 4X2. In 2009 I was out in my home town I knew this old fellow he bought a 97 Power Stroke extended cab to tow his 5th wheel down to Arizona for the winter he only had 70K on the hub. That truck was mint like new that’s how he kept it, the only problem, 2WD still couldn’t pass it up he only wanted $6K. The weight of that engine on the front end just played havoc on the rear but I threw a 1000 pounds in the bed when I need traction that worked Lol.
Looking back at this, I lucked out with my work truck, deleted it, full exhaust and downpipe, and 02 seats and power window conversion from an 02 as well. 8500 for the 4x4 130k truck. Love it. Trusty. And that's a steal when I bought it in 2023
Man I love this channel and I don't even know why. Maybe it's because I dream of owing a bunch of trucks. Definitely your personality. Good job man I'm so glad I subscribed.
Hey Westen, an 06LLY IS an LBZ, it's just detuned because Chevrolet had not gotten emissions approval on the LBZ at its release, so it was just detuned with LLY Tunes. The motor is an LBZ though
Still have no idea how your channel came into my suggested but I’m glad it did. You’ve sparked a huge interest in me with buying auction trucks and rebuilding them to flip. But about the chevys, I’ve never had any luck with chevys. Every single one I’ve owned or my friends/family have owned have been some of the worst vehicles ever. Whether it’s a 93 1500 with 250k on it or a 2012 equinox with 60k on it
I believe GM was experimenting with water base paints in the 2003-2006 era. They started with their whites first. I think the paint failures were from a combination of new prep techniques required for water born paint and the " less than adequate binders that were used in the first generation of waterborne paints.
I’ve got an 06 lbz crew cab long bed. 5” straight pipe and ppei tunes. It’s been the most reliable but fun daily driver. And might I mention it gets 20-25mpg, When my foots not in it listening to the turbo and that awesome duramax roar.
Lbzs are bad ass! The throttle response on them is absolutely insane, especially for a truck from that era. I’m a ford guy, but I’d buy an lbz in a heartbeat.
take the Duramax engine and transmission out and swap it into that old red Chevy dually you had on the channel awhile back..that square body dually or that square body grey truck you showed awhile back...be an awesome thing to see a Duramax swap into a square body Chevy/GMC! anywho really cool to see all the vehicles you got on the farm?/ranch?....you always entertain me so I will keep watching on whatever you do....great video as always sir! and it sucks that auction company stole parts off your truck to fix another one and was rude on top of it!
Let's do it Westen. Do the conversion to 4WD!!! I'll love to see that video in details and time lapsed! Thank you for your hard work and don't get discouraged if Beyonce hasn't called you yet!
When I had my body shop back in the 70s I was in Indianapolis Indiana and rust was a big deal everything was rusted now I live in South Carolina and they don't even know what rust is so that's amazing I'm in the northern west side of South Carolina and these cars are totally rust-free it's mind-boggling
Westen Champlin Both the Duramax and the Cummins have come so far and they make great, reliable power with every update. But from what I’ve read and seen (no firsthand experience), the LML seems to be the most popular amongst the GM guys.
Lbz is awesome. L5p is great (that's extent of my experience) I would say anything post lb7 is pretty good and the lb7 isn't that bad. The duramax isn't the sob story that Ford diesels have been.
LLY was from 04.5 and 05 we had an 04.5 LLY and pushed 800hp at top end and never had a single issue until a lady totaled it at 280k miles.. but note it also had 20+ k in upgrades
I have a dirty max as well great truck. I was told its the primer they use. That the primer still has oil in it and thats why it flakes off the way it does.
I drove one of these for work 2007 lbz . It had a massive 10 or 12 ft long thick steel work box on it and it pulled a triple axle trailer with an excavator that fit with 1 inch from either side of the wheel wells. cant remember the model or size but it wasn't a tiny one. It pulled it up steep hills without slowing down at all. beast
I love my 06 Duramax. I'm pretty sure it's a LBZ. It's been really reliable and it has had one hell of a life. Only thing done to it is what he mentioned. Had to replaced the pumps. Lol
Since I found your channel, there has not been one video that I did not learn something. You have a great way of making whatever you are doing fun to watch. Also glad to hear that the weather has not been to bad where you are. Keep them coming.
i have 4wd swapped my gasser 2500hd. it isn’t that bad, you’ll need a new tail housing/shaft transfer case (manual) front diff, 4wd hubs, and 4wd lower control arms. you’ll have to cut the mounts out of the parts truck, hole saw the passenger side to weld the mounts in, and weld the top diff mount in aswell as the bottom mount.
When you said it's the opposite of the old ford body style you are not lying. I had an old 95 ford f250 ext cab long bed. Both the door handles on the inside broke off. Man I miss that truck. You only got 6 mpg and it felt like your kidneys would fall out every time you would drive it(leaves all arround) but it was fun.
I like the 5.9 Cummins. But if i were to get a Chevy HD, it would be the LBZ 6.6. Same with Ford, it would be a 7.3 Powerstroke. Convert to 4wd. That would be one sweet video series to watch.
My dads got a 2006 LBZ duramax cab and chassis model he bought in 2008 and only hit 100,000 miles last year. currently has 120,000 now. It as well is unfortunately a 2wd but we definitely lucked out on the truck regardless.
I've got an 06 2500 reg cab longbed LT 4x4 with the LLY engine but it is a factory cross. It's the LLY with the factory LBZ guts in it before they completely went to the LBZ. 191,000 unmolested, daily driver, bonestock original. I don't think I would ever get rid of it, but I do like my wife's 13 LMM better.
I'd like to see the 4x4 conversion. I just bought a 05 2500 4x4 gas truck at auction with bad 6.0 for 600 bux for this exact reason for the next time I find a clean 2wd 2500 cheap. . I've read a few write ups where the hardest part was getting the front axle brackets welded in. The rest was just bolt on parts.
Some chevys have the "anti theft" door handles, where it takes the person to apply pressure with your thumb or inside finger on the edge of the handle, then it will open. Should give it a try!
Hey, I saw the "Harvey's Shawnee" sticker on the side of the truck. I'm from there originally, I now live in Tulsa. I just recently stumbled upon your channel and I love it! Been bingeing all of your videos and excited to see more content.
I have a 96 OBS powerstroke that you have to do the opposite of a reach around to get out haha. It is also a dump truck witch you are right Westen they are super handy never thought I'd need a dump truck as much as I do until I had one. Thinking about 4wd swap on that as well. Keep up the good videos buddy .
Gotta correct ya, the dodge vehicle ( you name it) is the one NOTORIOUS for the paint chipping issue. Chevy paint is more notorious for fading, especially in sunny environments.
Madder than a Hornet in a coke can, amazing, hey where's the charlois bull? Great idea, go for the 4x4 option, and give the ole, girl a facelift. I think though a bunch of us are chomping at the bit for the other projects, to quote a guy "nothing to it but to do it" and money I'm sure. Great video. Where's the coal rolling Belarus?
LBZ Duramax is the best Duramax ever made. I should know because my dad has had his LBZ for 13 years now. 338,000 miles later it stills pulls a 5 ton machine like its nothing

This is my favorite truck that you have. You cant beat a Duramax-Alison combo......PERIOD!

Good to know! I’m the original owner of a 06 LBZ with 41000 miles , It’s been a great truck , it feels like it’s just now breaking in it runs great !

8500 for the 4x4 130k truck. Love it. Trusty. And that's a steal when I bought it in 2023

I agree with your opinion of the LBZ. After replacement of the pistons with forged pistons my LBZ is putting out 1470bhp with my compound setup.
Tell me guys what Duramax engine do you think is the best?
None.... Cummins
None of them Cummins

Definitely a LBZ for the fuel economy and torque is pretty good
I like the flat bed being on there
Westen a 4-wheel drive conversion would be cool! I will be watching for the build if you do it!
That's why Chevrolet made the "Classic" edition in 07 for the 03-06 bodystyle because folks wanted that LBZ.
Definitely put chrome wheels with a nice flat bed and paint it. Make it a 4x4 towing rig to compete with Clifford
So far I've had good luck with the LB7 and Lmm. The best Duramax engine is the one that's currently out there.

Find a service body with a crane, you never know how useful it is to have a crane around until you’ve got one at your disposal
*DURAMAX is awesome - !!!*
4x4 definitely would be really cool to do I think plus you would get way more use out of the truck definitely worth it to do great video thank you
So did the auction company tell you to pound sand about the missing parts?
Definitely do the 4wd conversion ,tow mirrors, ranch hand, and cm flatbed.
Most definitely do the 4wd! Love the videos man
4x4 swap! god that'd be awesome... PNW has 2wd trucks running around ALL day long going for cheap... would love to see the process!
The D max is well worth goin to 4wd. Keep an eye out for one thats been rolled or in an accident. Get it super cheap. I like the truck.
4x4 hands down. So many people think about doing it.
The L5P is the Dirty max for me!!!!
J.C got good view on his two to four wheel conversion.I think it would be fun to watch some one do it to a chevy!Nice towrig!

awsome video westen loved the duramax i never seen someone do a 4 wheel drive conversion before be really neat one you do thumbs up and shared
The more videos the better. I think you should either swap the motor into a 4wd crew cab or just see how many miles you can put on her.
As always great story to go along with what your doing.
For you, four wheel drive conversion and a dump box.
Me, I would LBZ swap it in to a classic K30 square body dually.
On the older body style chevys you can cut the 2wd front frame section off slip the 4wd on its place much like wY Jc smoth did with that f-550 fprdh
The only real *newer* chevy trucks I've liked. Something I'd drive. Either 2 Or 4WD
P.s Post an update on the Belarus Tractor.
Do the 4wd dumper and you can park it at door for clean up instead of disturbing Bob !

Leave the truck like it is just customize it,paint-wheels-chrome,rear end locker,(maby) dump bed, that size is handy.
LBZ Duramax is the best Duramax ever made. I should know because my dad has had his LBZ for 13 years now. 338,000 miles later it stills pulls a 5 ton machine like its nothing
I'm with ya on that one. No 4x4 is an issue for me up here in Minnesota
Glade to see a chevy on the channel I'd tune it clean her up 4wd swap it and keep her as a tow rig 👍
Best Duramax ever made right there
YES! Love to see the uploads! Keep it up!
4x4 all the way. Parts truck is the answer. 👍
There's a lot of hotshot guys that would love to find a pre dpf/def truck in good shape. Put some new seats in it, paint it, and sell it.
Man 2500 dollars, what a steal. I can't find anything like that for less that 10k! Leave the flat bed and add some welding equipment on it.
Leave the flat bed on it even if you make it a 4x4.
I’d really like to see you convert the Chevy to 4 wheel drive. It would be epic material to watch.
Put a normal truck bed on the back or make it a dump truck and add 4wd, so you can get maximum use out of it
You left it there over the weekend? Good Grief, man, you're lucky that LBZ was still in it on Monday!
Nice find, exactly the unicorn I've been hunting
