Today we get this most important part of the Cummins swap...the Cummins. For those wondering we are not swapping the firetruck we are going a different way.
Not swapping the c30 with this cummins or ever? I've got a 74 c30 dump I'd love to put a 12 valve in. Was looking forward to watching someone actually do it. Great vids regardless. Ur channels going to get big. 👍
You got one Hell of a deal Son... after partin' out it will be a nearly FREE Cummins w/ a P pump and factory rebuilt Turbo... That turbo is worth $750. and Addelmans Diesel wants a $1000 for a P pump.... Many blessings , SMR
I like the way this guy uses his money. His truck collection is proof that you don't need 6 figures in car payments if you educate yourself, put in some effort and be patient for the right deal. You can have all these things and still be sitting well if you do it right. Something I think more people should learn
Way back in 1978 I was driving a Ready Mix truck with about 7 yards of cement and the accelerator pedal stuck to the floor. It's attachment point had rusted and allowed it to shift where it wedged behind the stop which was a bolt with a large flat head. It was a red 8000 Louisville. It had grey interior with a brown drivers seat! (after that!)
Heck of a buy for $1500, I imagine you could double your money and not touch the truck to do it! Thanks for sharing, a great combination of comedy and creativity!!
I bought a 1994 Ford B-700 school bus with the P-Pump 12 valve. It was a great deal too. However, you'll be spending a considerable amount of money changing it over to the automotive style engine. (To fit in a normal pickup) The oil pan, dip stick, manifold, turbo, alternator, front accessory bracket, power steering pump, intake air horn, and maybe even oil filter housing will need to be swapped over to the "Dodge" style if you want it to be easily reparable down the road in a few years when you are out of town with only a Autozone near by. You'll make money on the Allison AT545 but it's not an overdrive tranny. I made $600. Which was awesome. (Sold complete with the SAE bellhousing) Come to find out, mine was a Cummins ReCon motor that only had like 40k on it. But it had the cheapest of gaskets and was put together very sloppy. So I had to regasket it. Long story short, I used it. But it was no deal.
I see a lot of car and truck channels here on UA-cam. But this channel is my #1 favorite channel. Not only because you are very funny. But I actually learn new things on here
I love your channel. You guys remind me of myself when I was younger. Concerning the oil. In my 1997 Ford dually with the 7.3, I pulled a wedge trailer to Elkhart, In from Vermont once a week on a regular basis. Every time I finished a round, she got filters and a oil change with Rottella 20wt-50 at. Yes , I said filters because I had a second, remote filter installed when I installed the larger Banks Turbocharger. The oil hardly ever had time to turn sooty that way. Had three fuel tanks on it. A 125 gal in the bed and the two 38 gallon standard tanks that came with the truck (if I remember correctly, it's been some tine.) and four fuel filters. Three remote filters that were installed on the lip inside the bed rail with large spin on truck filters and the one in the engine bay. Those got change every 2500 miles or if I got a power drop or pryo spoke indicating I might have some contamination In the fuel, although I tried to fuel at places I knew. The loads were rarely heave being cargo trailer mixtures of anything I could get on the trailer. I got pretty creative. I ran a light plug 3/4 down my trailer, put the trailer with the longest overhang on the back, plug In that trailer and bingo, all required lighting on the rear with no overhang. Only got nailed for that once, in Maryland. D.O.T. stopped me a measured me from the back of my trailer o the end of the other one. Almost 8 feet. He got me for no log book and a bunch of other things, totaling about $1,000. Lost money on that haul. That's ok after I dropped the trailers off I went to the Jacksonville docks and picked up 3 brand new Mercedes that were being imported and took them to Virginia and NYC. Normally, I came back m.t. In over 300,000 miles in under 3 years, I never had anything go wrong with her except for regular maintenance and she never left me stranded. Can't say that about the 2000 model Ford F-350 that I replaced her with. Dumbest mistake I EVER made. Sure do miss that old girl now.
@ 11:35 another hint at 11:43 oil gets darker fast when miles are put on. When we sell your diesel or gas trucks to the big auction company. I service the trucks buy changing the oil and adding new filters with the date so they look fresh for the auction. A lot of people look at that and think “ohhhh I guess they keep there fleet vehicles well maintenance” ahh yeaaa.... not really lol we just do that before auction time for more $$$
My girlfriend showed me this channel. She said I would probably enjoy it, I did, here’s a sub not only for the video content but just being such a funny and enjoyable person to watch
Great buy. I sold a 1984 F-700 flatbed dumb it had a newer 10 ft fisher plow but it was gas. Anyway sold it for $1700 back in 2015. Point being $1500 is a steal for that truck.
Love that bed on clifford the mopar- Since childhood I have had a fetish for reading truck bodies- just love a rear full of compartments and doors for storage- I hope I can someday get something like this
A little advice I've always been told loading to always put the load on the trailer axels. I really don't know for sure but always seems to help when I've done it.
Always love your videos. And so glad to see more red. Love Clifford and so glad to see how he works so hard for you. Love, love, love the humour and ALWAYS enjoy your projects. Keep up the great videos. So dang cool.
You got one Hell of a deal Son... after partin' out it will be a nearly FREE Cummins w/ a P pump and factory rebuilt Turbo... That turbo is worth $750. and Addelmans Diesel wants a $1000 for a P pump.... Many blessings , SMR
That's an awesome deal! Interested in knowing what you will be swapping it into! Also, glad the turbo is new as well since it's one less thing to worry about for the time being!
I love this truck and bed....i would use it the same way you do. nice to carry all you need with you all the time. the f700 probably has an allison at545. that is a 4 speed non lock up converter and direct drive not overdrive. good reliable transmission but robs a lot of power from that cummins. that hood is "CUSTOM BY CRUNCH!" that braking system is a "lucas girling". it is a hydraulic version of air brakes. it takes pressure to release the rear parking brake cans. that is why there is no park. it also has an electric motor to make pressure if the pump fails. that is how i buy my engines for repower projects....buy a truck and sell off all the stuff i dont want. nice score westin.
What a beautiful looking truck!!! Something like that sitting in my yard would add to the value of my place. We don't have access to trucks like that here in that price range!!! Real envious!!!
good lesson on tieing down loads, i usually use a heavyrachet strap or a chain on the front and back on the sub frame as well to squash the suspension on the vehicle as well so its not bouncing so bad and sloshing you around in the truck. But i agree tie below it so it wont loosen!
Love your show brother, just wanted to add when you haul vehicles , you should put the chains on your frame and ratchet down your suspension. That will keep the vehicle from bouncing around. I used to drive a 4 car hauler, just passing on some helpful safety tips. God bless you and your family.
That's a steal for $1,500. Maybe a bit much for a motor swap but you can resell the truck body and frame for close to that when you're done with the project.
I just bought a 2003 5.9 Cummins Ram I checked the blowby and it had ZERO blowby I was amazed. Then I checked the oil and it looked like new oil. I thought I was in the Twilight zone because I've driven 5.9's for the last 30 years and they ALL have jet bleak oil the second I put new oil in them. I called the guy I bought this truck from and asked what oil he runs in this. He informed me Mobil 1 synthetic. I'll never run Delo again.
That entrance music though when talking about if the trailer can handle the abuse, then straight into his serious discussion face. Theres my laugh for the day!
$1500 isn't a lot for ANY truck. And this one runs. You're right: Take out what you want and then you get back most of your money by scrapping the remains. It's almost a free Cummins/Allison combo.
My work truck is set up in a similar way. Cummins with an Allison. It’s called the power package upgrade at Freightliner. But I hold it to the floor till I get to the speed I want and then set the cruise. It’ll hold for the most part. We don’t blow smoke though, we have that California sticker on the side. Garbage. The AC is cold though!
Beyonce told me to tell you the F-700 was a good buy, she couldn't believe how clean the oil looked, and the answer is yes, you can pick her Saturday at 9 as long as the seat is clean and dry by then..
Great video, "raining like a cow pissin on a flat rock" just great. This project will be interesting, mix it up with the coal rolling Belarus. Great channel.
That is a smokin deal for a donor vehicle. Totally agree on being able to test drive it to see how the engine and trans runs before finding out other pre-existing health conditions exist after swapping into the project vehicle. The fuel tanks full, decent cab minus back window and driveline parts just reduced your initial price of $1500 to even less for what you will have laid out for a donor engine/trans. I unfortunately had to go pick up a truck just like it with a terex utility bed and auger for setting telephone poles. Old square wheel about shook loose some teeth after getting it unstuck from a muddy shoulder. The wheels were caked with previous mud on top of new and people at this contractor rode everything until it died. Bob has a luxury seat compared to the rag filled seat with wire springs pokin ya turning a corner in the Ford. Bumps in the road would cause the brake buzzer to go off and the first time it occurred gets your attention. A little bit of learning what to look for, there are deals to be had in vehicles like this and especially in marine applications just for the engine alone. Think outside of the box and you'll be amazed at what you can find for use.
Your weight probably would have been better balanced if you had backed the truck on the trailer, but with no back window you may have blown out the windshield.
Awesome deal! 👍👍 You got you an engine, transmission, AND you’re going to EASILY make your money back PLUS some on this truck! 💰💵💰💵 But...but...but Westin... it’s a FORD 👎👎. 🤣🤣 I know why you bought it tho. I’ve been with ya since the channel’s beginning & I watch _a lot_ of “Vehicle UA-camrs”... you’re by far the *BEST* ! Absolutely love your comedy as well as your knowledge. That engine oil is ridiculously clean for a diesel engine. Any diesel engine I've ever changed oil on you can put fresh oil in and start the engine and shut it off 30 seconds later and dip it and the oil will be black.
