      Yeah the 14 pro max does seem to over sharpen and clip the shadows when it doesn’t have to because of the new sensor, they’ll probably fix that with the 15 pro’s. The 14/14plus are using the larger 12mp sensor from the 13 pro’s with sensor shift and now with the new photonic engine the only difference’s are slight in low light and when you crop in which no average user crops in, they just take the picture and post it online. Both are good cameras

      ( Natural Color ) is what you’re aiming for. Bright colors don’t necessarily make the picture more detailed. I don’t know if you go back to 35mm cameras and keeping 35mm negatives. But an old school negative can be processed the way you want. If you want brighter or darker areas you can change it at will. Today it’s called Raw. There’s no way a still picture can compete with a raw picture because you can’t change the still. You can take the raw to a professional and have them calibrate the colors for you.

    The main lens looks nearly identical across the 14 and 14 Pro. But wow, is there a dramatic improvement with the ultra-wide lens on the Pro. I use that lens all the time too, so I'd consider that a worthwhile upgrade.

    • @efwewfwef1549

      but the problem is this idiot did just compare the ultra wide from the 14 pro with the 14 and not the 13 pro which did get upgraded last year and should be somewhere in between the 14 and 14pro...

    • @monsterous289
      @monsterous289 2 роки тому +11

      I'd argue pretty heavily against that. For the main lens, even in normal light with detail (such as her orange pants), but especially in low light, such as at 13:50 where the suture lines on the jean jacket are night and day different between the main lenses. Then again around 14:40 the iPhone 14 Pro main had a clear difference where even with a higher exposure/iso, there was both more detail and significantly less noise in the sky, the water, and the outfit.

    • @IvoKlerk
      @IvoKlerk 2 роки тому +4

      Are people saying it’s worse? Haha. The iPhone 14 pro is way way better for professional photographers. The differences are night and day, mostly because of ProRaw. I have a heavy editing process where I take out all contrast and reapply it afterwards but distributed differently. An 8bit heic file gets shredded in the process. Also the mushy denoising artifacts are hideous. The end results for me are like a difference between a professional camera vs a toycamera.
      But for people who just use it for quick snapshots and only show it in a small format (i.e.: instagram), it’s maybe a little less noticing and less important

It now feels a bit too wide-angle-ish for a main lens to me. Then again, the gradation between the different focal length does make sense. I believe you can force the phone to use the whole 48MP if you dont turn on Nightmode when shooting in low light. But the result might not be what you'd expected because 48Mp means smaller sub pixel = more noise & inaccurate colors = the phone trying to reduce noise and recover colors = less details overall. even in proraw, Apple's still trying to "fix" all those problems.

    As a photographer, I never take photos on my iphone. I’ve just never seen photo results that looked good enough for me to want to bother. Which has been convenient because since the X, the SE2 and the mini has been my iPhone of choice for a couple years especially since camera performance didn’t matter to me.
    But the 14 pro results are the first time I’ve ever seen iPhone photos where I’m being enticed to the larger format because I could see using it to capture those everyday moments, BTS, and social media stuff

    Tldr - if you shoot in 12mp then they are the same in lit conditions, while in low light the binning from the pro should provide better performance. But if you shoot in 48mp then that is going to be better in the light etc

    It is annoying that the regular 14 which is the iPhone for the masses gets the least attention and upgrades. I understand Apple would rather you spend £1099+, but that’s not realistic for most if their users. Great leaps for the Pro models, but I hope they put more effort in next year for the people who occupy their biggest market.

    Very informative. Good job! I always upgrade to a new phone every year, and have tried the 'pro' lines, but normally end up settling with the 'non-pro'. The average person just taking photos to share doesn't need the pro; yet we all buy them. Certainly the pro's offer a helluva lot of camera- if you need/want it. I always think I want the zoo- but the macro photography features are the coolest actually.

    I mean I could see using 48 megapixel Pro Raw images for landscapes during travel photography, I think it could benefit from the resolution and cropping ability, but aside from that I just don't see the use yet vs. the tradeoffs.

    Thanks for the great review. So is it really 48 megs, or just a play on words by Apple with each pixel now using 4 pixels thus getting to the 48 number? The image examples here clearly show there's no discernible difference in IQ between them. Will say the stabilization is really impressive. Still debating on whether to upgrade or not.

    Around the 9:35 to 9:40 in one of the comparison of two similar shots on this video, I notice the clouds and sky on the iPhone 14 Pro (48MP RAW) looking much more washed out than on the iPhone 14 HEIC rendering of the clouds and sky. Is that something that can be rectified quite easily in LR after the fact, while processing the RAW image, or is the 48MP sensor simply not as good at capturing clouds and sky?
    Here's why I'm asking. I've been shooting 16:9 (at .5) of clouds and sky with my iPhone 11 Pro Max for years and I really love the results I get; so much so that when the iPhone 13 Pro Max came out I purchased one, only to return it the same day after spending an hour or so shooting C&S HEIC images with it, side by side with my 11 Pro Max. The eleven's rendering of clouds and sky consistently looked a lot better than the thirteen's.
    Any thoughts?

    • @Alexander0189
      @Alexander0189 Рік тому

      Hey, you may already know this by now but you're correct...somewhat. From my testing the raw photo doesn't always look the best straight out of camera, but it's meant to be edited and tweaked hence it being Raw. Once I upload the photo to lightroom and decrease the highlights it makes the world of difference to any clouds in the sky. Raw on the 14 pro truly is impressive for making pictures look more realistic.

  • @aptfx
    @aptfx Рік тому

    even in the first comparison shots it’s clear that the 14 got a lot more sharpening applied. There are visible halos on contrast edges which show this quite clearly. An interesting try would then have been how the 14 pro 48mp image reacts to well done sharpening applied… enough to bring the details out without resorting into halo land.
    In regard to the 2x lens being no „optical“ zoom but just a crop: Technically, yes it is just a crop of the sensor of the 14 pro… but since the sensor is also bigger at the same time, it’s sensor pixels are nearly the same size as the one in the 12 MP sensor of the 14. So - in relation to the 14 it actually is similar to a 2x „optical“ zoom in any way to think of it. So from the standpoint of just getting 12 MP photos it behaves like having a real additional 2x module. You could do the same by cropping from the 48MP RAW of course. So the „2x“ zoom definitely makes sense as a camera feature for common use but of course isn’t magic. It’s a matter of perspective.

    I would love to see how the Pro compares to a proper mirrorless/DSLR, does the tiny lens really have the power to resolve 48 MP? We all know proper high megapixel camera (R5/A7R) require very sharp lenses in order to show off their resolution, how about on phones?
