"Live" photo setting is one of the most important features to me. It has allowed my still photos to come to life with now deceased close family.... to hear their voice again ...
Stop being a rude jerk and actually respect the people who work on/make the app. It’s not that bad it’s actually decent, it only gets bad when you watch bad things / cringe things! There are decent TikTok’s on the app if you don’t watch bad ones, so actually give it a try and stop going with the “TikTOK iS bAD” trend because it really isn’t.
The banner option for incoming calls is a God blessing IMO… I used to be so annoyed when I was in the middle of something - like sending an email - and a call popped up taking control of my phone… I can’t see why someone would prefer it the old way… but hey… to each their own…
Thanks for such a helpful episode of your show. I wanted to give a small tip about the back tap capability of phones. I was born blind, and I have had several strokes in the last few years. I found adapting to a phone without a home button to be very difficult, especially when I needed to use the app switcher. I now have back tap set up where app switcher will come up if I tap twice. That really makes my life so much easier, and it might help anyone who has tremors in their hands or dexterity issues.
One annoying thing for me is this. I often carry my phone face up with hand around the front. Many many times a day it will start the jiggling to remove apps. I have not touched the screen, it seems that something about holding the sides starts this. I don’t know if this can be disabled or not?. Love your tips!
One other tip I use if you miss the home button, make your own. Go to Settings - Accessibility - Touch - AssistiveTouch (on) - under custom actions you can have 3 options. Personally I have Single-Tap set to Home, Double-Tap set to Control Centre, Long Press set to Screenshot. I have the same functions set on my iPad Pro and my iPad Air. You can put this virtual Home Button anywhere on the edge of the screen and also alter its opacity to suit yourself.
Assistive Touch is fantastic - I found out about this many years ago after my daughter’s phone was damaged & and this is how she kept using it without a functioning Home button.

Thanks for the info. I have made several changes at your suggestion. I do have a question… Sometimes when I ask Siri to text for me, the screen pops up and she asks what I want to say. I give the info for the text and nothing happens. The text cell just stays blank and eventually goes away. However, sometimes the cell populates with what I said and sends with no problem. Why does it work sometimes and not other times. Lately, it has failed more than it works.

I went to the Apple Store for this problem and what I found out is as long as you have the heart rate option on it will silence your phone. you have to disable it then your phone will make the noise again. stupid I know. go to notifications, Heart Health then turn off heart rate notification. I hope it works for you.

Is there a way to choose a volume for alarms other than turning down ringer volume? Seems a simple toggle slide setting in the alarm app would be in order.
The camera default that I _really_ wish we had the option to set or to remember from session to session is zoom. I’d set it to 3x, because I find that when I’m taking a photo I end up at 2x-3x something like 80%-95% of the time. And for those “can I get my phone out fast enough and activate the camera in time to capture this‽” moments, not having to also adjust the zoom would shave valuable time, increasing the odds of capturing whatever it is. And, if I had to choose a single zoom setting most likely to be appropriate for the largest fraction of those “urgent” photos, it sure as heck wouldn’t be 1x. But 3x is pretty close to that optimal default, and has the advantage of being the native zoom for the telephoto lens, not a computationally approximated zoom.

I don’t know about accidental screenshots though I’ve done that before in my time. The problem comes when I accidentally call the emergency services from my pocket. Any ideas how to stop that happening? You never know when it might be handy to have your phone trigger a 999 call, but it shouldn’t be that easy to pocket dial. I’ve done it twice before at least, which is two calls to many. They could be responding to a dire emergency instead of having to ring me to check I’m ok.
Face ID wirh a mask does not appear on my iPhone 11. I have iOS 16.1.1. As I still mask every time I go out, this feature would be of great use to me--but does not appear to be available, even tho I downloaded the last iOS upgrade.

Any way to fix this? it came in during a release and i’ve tried auto correct, dictionary and nothing seems to work. it appears to be a feature….. but it is only is or as it defaults to IS that the problem. I’ve recently changed to button capitalise to of and while this fixes the IS, none of my sentences have caps anymore by default.

Hello! I am learning a lot from your videos! New to iphone one thing i miss is when i make a call and the receiver does not answer is there a way in which text messaging will pop up. On android when you hangup an unanswered phone call you get the option to send a text. i really miss this feature. is there a way on the iphone to do this? Thanks!

You also don't have to tap the back of the phone for the screen shot if you have it enabled that way. It will work if you tap the side of the phone too.
I love the style of presentation you use and it has solved many of my iPhone issues. I use my iPad much more than my phone and would greatly appreciate either comments about what suggestions you use that are identical to the iPad, or have separate iPad videos on similar subject matters.

One issue I encounter often is with having headphones on. Then asking Siri to read a message that has just been received. Or WhatsApp. Then Siri will reply that I have to unlock my iPhone first. But in those situation like skiing if I have the headphones is because I don’t want to get my phone out of my pocket. Really annoying. I’ve been having this problem since I updated to iOS 16. I was getting a “call has been silenced” message. In settings>>> phone you’ll find an option to silence calls from unknown numbers. I’ve toggled that off and all of my calls seem to be coming through.

Can you explain what causes the screen to go so dark when it's not "supposed" to? I've tried raising the brightness manually on the screen but it already would show it was at full brightness even though the screen is super dark I can hardly see. Can it be overheating and shutting out any extra light/heat? Thanks for the tips!
Great tips as ever, thank you! One storage issue you might address in a future video (pretty please) is how to fix apps that use way more storage than they should. iOS notes for example - on my iPad, iOS notes uses about 2.5GB, which is about what I would have expected. The same app on my iPhone (same account, same content, same everything) uses 8.5GB. It drives me nuts. If you can help me solve that one, you will save this soul from eternal frustration.
On my iphone 11pro I use Notes all the time for everything but it only shows it is using 52.9mb. I wonder if you have something in your Notes like a video etc that is taking up so much more space than mine. Alsoon my ipad it only shows 39.5mb. I hope somebody with a lot more knowledge than I have, can give you the answer Dougie. All I've got to help is what my Notes are showing.

After I sign in with my credentials, it stays signed in for a day or two, then it shows a message that a new sign in is required. 5:52, so, having found an app that's using a lot of data, how do you clear the cached data (keeping the app, settings, etc.)? The only options I see are offload the app, which keeps all that data but removes the app, or delete the app and all data. Yes, I could delete everything and then download and setup the app(s) again, but that seems like a couple of unnecessary steps.
Hi. I can’t install voicemail opening greeting or get voice mail on my iPhone 12 ( mini) . I noticed your phone icon had an indication of a call. A one displayed on the icon. Mine does not do that and I have not found the setting for it. Is there one? I have missed/responded very late to some calls. I should not have to check every few minutes.
You have to set the notifications for calls - you can find it in settings, it’s the red bell icon, scroll down until you see the phone/call symbol.. hope this helps!
Have you a fix on how to receive audio on in coming calls with airpods pro 2 paired with iphone X/XS/max? There seems to be an issue only with this operation and is consistent only with iphone X_ _ & airpod pro 2nd gen uses.You will probably have to try it out for yourself to appreciate the problem. Is there a way to default photos to the square format? I upload a lot of pictures into reports and the square format fits best into the reports. I find myself having to change it every time I'm taking pictures for work.
To me the most annoying feature in iPhone is it's weak vibration. As a person who only used vibration in the alarm on android phone, this one is almost a deal-breaker. I couldn't even imagine, that iPhone can lack of it... felt so obvious and natural that any phone just have it. It felt so much more peaceful to hear pure vibration as an alarm in the morning, but as far as my research there is no cure for this...

Is there a way to not remember the last search or contact you searched for in contacts. Everytime you search for a contact it stays there once you’re done with it. So next time there are additional steps to get back and that’s irritating
These are great. I actually already knew the last one about finding your phone with your Apple Watch. Couldn’t live without it. Especially useful if unbeknownst to you, your phone has gone under the couch. Really needed the tip about camera settings. Have one more problem that happens on both my iPhone 12 and my iPad. My keyboard sometimes disappears and sometimes won’t reappear without a reboot.

Why would someone specifically want to not save a live photo? Just curious - I was under the assumption that there is no reduction in picture quality by having it enabled, and you don't have to look at the saved video clip.

Just curious: on older iPhones (an 8 Plus for example), to hard reset you used to press the home + power buttons at the same time. Did Apple changed that on those older iPhones also?
No, the older phones still work the way they always did in terms of resetting or just turning them off for a restart. I’m glad they didn’t mess with that as it would be very confusing to people like my mother who still uses an iPhone 8.
I have a problem I have not been able to solve. If I finish looking at my phone and then drop my hand to my side, more ofter than not, it goes into screen edit mode - all the icons get little x's and start wiggling..
What is really annoying me about my new iPhone 14 Pro is the fact that the photos are really over. Processed and not good… I hate what they look like. The second issue I have is the fact that the newer phones do not support 3G, and I seem to have horrible reception many places I travel to, when driving. I honestly wish I could just go back to my iPhone 8.
You can also use find my on a iPhone iPad or Mac on the same iCloud account or family to ping any of your apple devices that support find my, muted or not
Dude my biggest gripe is when after I’m done with a call I go to hang up, but the other person hung up first and then screen goes back to my recent calls and my thumb hits a persons number and calls them instead
You could make it a rule to wait a second or two before hitting hang up, to see if the other person has beaten you to it. I find such habits become automatic pretty quickly.
One issue I’m noticing with my iPhone 13 is that volume sign at volume bar gets smaller. When brightness icon stays the same size, compare to it volume icon is smaller. I need to restart my iPhone to fix this but after several days, it’s the same

I can never find my flashlight when I need it. The b&w swipe screen won't come up, and then the brightness is all the way down. Seeing people in films pull out their phones in an emergency and immediately turn on their flashlight is a lie.
Thanks for this helpful video - very useful tips. However, there is 1 problem that evidently only affects me: My fingers get very dry and I miss a lot of calls since my swipe doesn’t take. I know there’s the option to have auto-answer, but I don’t want to answer spam calls. I wish Apple implemented a hardware answering option, such as the side button. It’s very frustrating.

I have my call alerts set as banner, but when I click the green button to accept the call it won’t accept the call. Instead it will open the full screen call alert and then I can hit the green button again to accept the call. Is there a way that I can hit the green button only once?
10:43 Two corrections here! 1) It's not the same process on EVERY iphone. On older ones, with a home button, you hold power and home buttons at the same time. 2) It's not a "hard reset", it's a SOFT reset, because it only force reboot your iphone.
I have a problem....I was a beta tester and I was getting updates from Apple on a frequently and after I got one over a month or so ago I can no longer use my Anycast dongle to stream my phone to my tv.....how do I fix this problem? I tried looking for the update to delete it but I can't find it to do so.
Regarding the Banner/Full Screen issue. It says that it will use the selected display style when the phone is unlocked. I guess if the phone is locked, it defaults to the Banner. Is there any way around this other than constantly having your phone unlocked?
I switched to full screen and it works when my phone is locked as well as unlocked. I wonder if that message at the top in settings is to warn people that if they are on their phone the full screen will override whatever they are doing.
Sometimes when there is an incoming call that I do not recognize, there is no option displayed to decline the call on screen. Why would that be? Thank you.

Wifi keeps dropping since iOS 15. I have to either pull down control centre or actually go into settings for the phone to "realise" its in range of a known network & reconnect itself automatically. Any solutions?
I turned off a couple things for iCloud backup and my iPhone 7 ios15.7 decided to randomly very soft restart,and the text is disturbing to me and can you restart your iPhone later after dead battery,and turn off auto restart

One issue I encounter often is with having headphones on. Then asking Siri to read a message that has just been received. Or WhatsApp. Then Siri will reply that I have to unlock my iPhone first. But in those situation like skiing if I have the headphones is because I don’t want to get my phone out of my pocket. Really annoying. Specially now that you can have the code for access on WhatsApp !! It drives me crazy when friends are texting or where am I on the pistes !! 😢.
Can I get Finder on my iMac to display all folders on my iPadPro (via wifi)... so I can simply drag and drop files from iMac to where I want on the iPadPro?
But you don't say what it does if we go ahead and delete it in the iPhone storage for instance if I delete what is in iPhone storage under Snapchat does it delete all of the photos I choose to save to my camera roll? Or does that only delete "built up caches"?

I’ve been having this problem since I updated to iOS 16.
I was getting a “call has been silenced” message. In settings>>> phone you’ll find an option to silence calls from unknown numbers. I’ve toggled that off and all of my calls seem to be coming through.

Can you explain what causes the screen to go so dark when it's not "supposed" to? I've tried raising the brightness manually on the screen but it already would show it was at full brightness even though the screen is super dark I can hardly see. Can it be overheating and shutting out any extra light/heat? Thanks for the tips!

One storage issue you might address in a future video (pretty please) is how to fix apps that use way more storage than they should. iOS notes for example - on my iPad, iOS notes uses about 2.5GB, which is about what I would have expected. The same app on my iPhone (same account, same content, same everything) uses 8.5GB. It drives me nuts. If you can help me solve that one, you will save this soul from eternal frustration.
On my iphone 11pro I use Notes all the time for everything but it only shows it is using 52.9mb. I wonder if you have something in your Notes like a video etc that is taking up so much more space than mine. Alsoon my ipad it only shows 39.5mb. I hope somebody with a lot more knowledge than I have, can give you the answer Dougie. All I've got to help is what my Notes are showing.

After I sign in with my credentials, it stays signed in for a day or two, then it shows a message that a new sign in is required. 5:52, so, having found an app that's using a lot of data, how do you clear the cached data (keeping the app, settings, etc.)?
The only options I see are offload the app, which keeps all that data but removes the app, or delete the app and all data. Yes, I could delete everything and then download and setup the app(s) again, but that seems like a couple of unnecessary steps.

Hi, Ive this one problem with my 11 Pro Max, which when calling, Ill put the phone on my ear, the screen will off/blank/whatsoever right? Then, basically when we lift up the phone it will turn on again, but mine sometimes(or most of the times) it keep blank/off, always panic cuz i cant be the one who end the call, the caller need to end the call(what a shame experience), please help me with this 😭😭😭
I noticed your phone icon had an indication of a call. A one displayed on the icon. Mine does not do that and I have not found the setting for it. Is there one? I have missed/responded very late to some calls. I should not have to check every few minutes.
You have to set the notifications for calls - you can find it in settings, it’s the red bell icon, scroll down until you see the phone/call symbol.. hope this helps!
Have you a fix on how to receive audio on in coming calls with airpods pro 2 paired with iphone X/XS/max? There seems to be an issue only with this operation and is consistent only with iphone X_ _ & airpod pro 2nd gen uses.You will probably have to try it out for yourself to appreciate the problem. Is there a way to default photos to the square format? I upload a lot of pictures into reports and the square format fits best into the reports. I find myself having to change it every time I'm taking pictures for work.
To me the most annoying feature in iPhone is it's weak vibration.
As a person who only used vibration in the alarm on android phone, this one is almost a deal-breaker.
I couldn't even imagine, that iPhone can lack of it... felt so obvious and natural that any phone just have it.
It felt so much more peaceful to hear pure vibration as an alarm in the morning, but as far as my research there is no cure for this...

Is there a way to not remember the last search or contact you searched for in contacts. Everytime you search for a contact it stays there once you’re done with it. So next time there are additional steps to get back and that’s irritating
These are great. I actually already knew the last one about finding your phone with your Apple Watch. Couldn’t live without it. Especially useful if unbeknownst to you, your phone has gone under the couch. Really needed the tip about camera settings. Have one more problem that happens on both my iPhone 12 and my iPad. My keyboard sometimes disappears and sometimes won’t reappear without a reboot.

Go to Settings, then Siri. There should be a button "Allow Siri when locked." Turn this on.

Why would someone specifically want to not save a live photo? Just curious - I was under the assumption that there is no reduction in picture quality by having it enabled, and you don't have to look at the saved video clip.

Just curious: on older iPhones (an 8 Plus for example), to hard reset you used to press the home + power buttons at the same time. Did Apple changed that on those older iPhones also?
No, the older phones still work the way they always did in terms of resetting or just turning them off for a restart. I’m glad they didn’t mess with that as it would be very confusing to people like my mother who still uses an iPhone 8.

What is really annoying me about my new iPhone 14 Pro is the fact that the photos are really over. Processed and not good… I hate what they look like. The second issue I have is the fact that the newer phones do not support 3G, and I seem to have horrible reception many places I travel to, when driving. Dude my biggest gripe is when after I’m done with a call I go to hang up, but the other person hung up first and then screen goes back to my recent calls and my thumb hits a persons number and calls them instead
Yeah that's super annoying, has happened to me multiple times. Not sure there's a fix, other than having the reflexes of a cat.
You could make it a rule to wait a second or two before hitting hang up, to see if the other person has beaten you to it. I find such habits become automatic pretty quickly.

One issue I’m noticing with my iPhone 13 is that volume sign at volume bar gets smaller. When brightness icon stays the same size, compare to it volume icon is smaller. I need to restart my iPhone to fix this but after several days, it’s the same

I can never find my flashlight when I need it. The b&w swipe screen won't come up, and then the brightness is all the way down. Seeing people in films pull out their phones in an emergency and immediately turn on their flashlight is a lie.

Thanks for this helpful video - very useful tips. However, there is 1 problem that evidently only affects me: My fingers get very dry and I miss a lot of calls since my swipe doesn’t take. I know there’s the option to have auto-answer, but I don’t want to answer spam calls. I wish Apple implemented a hardware answering option, such as the side button. It’s very frustrating.
You might add an app like “Call Protect” that helps with unwanted calls.

I have my call alerts set as banner, but when I click the green button to accept the call it won’t accept the call. Instead it will open the full screen call alert and then I can hit the green button again to accept the call.
Is there a way that I can hit the green button only once?

1) It's not the same process on EVERY iphone. On older ones, with a home button, you hold power and home buttons at the same time.
2) It's not a "hard reset", it's a SOFT reset, because it only force reboot your iphone.
I use my Apple Watch to find my phone often. It is the best feature for me.
I have a problem....I was a beta tester and I was getting updates from Apple on a frequently and after I got one over a month or so ago I can no longer use my Anycast dongle to stream my phone to my tv.....how do I fix this problem? I tried looking for the update to delete it but I can't find it to do so.

Regarding the Banner/Full Screen issue. It says that it will use the selected display style when the phone is unlocked. I guess if the phone is locked, it defaults to the Banner. Is there any way around this other than constantly having your phone unlocked?
I switched to full screen and it works when my phone is locked as well as unlocked. I wonder if that message at the top in settings is to warn people that if they are on their phone the full screen will override whatever they are doing.
Sometimes when there is an incoming call that I do not recognize, there is no option displayed to decline the call on screen. Why would that be? Thank you.
Press the side button to decline a call, it will send it to voicemail

Wifi keeps dropping since iOS 15. I have to either pull down control centre or actually go into settings for the phone to "realise" its in range of a known network & reconnect itself automatically. Any solutions?
