- It’s been a while since I created some content for Notes on the iPhone, but with the app seeing some pretty major updates as part of iOS 16, I figured I would make a video detailing how to get the most out of the app. So, in this video, I’ll explore everything there is to know about Notes for iPhone, on iOS 16.

I've just recently discovered your channel. Lately I am watching a new video each day. I am an old person who began programming back in the 70s and retired in 2000. Technology today has advanced so far beyond my skill set. Now, you are helping me join the 21st century. Thanks, Proper Honest Tech.
This is such a cool comment. I hope you’re having fun reminiscing on how technology was and comparing to how far it has come to today.
@@AlexisRanae - Thank you, Alexis.
Yes, I grew up with dial telephones and black and white television. I still have my 64K, 80C85-based computer in my closet. Mostly I like the new technology but what I miss is being able to write programs and run them and I knew everything that was going on inside the computer. I was programming IBM mainframes back in the early 70s. It wasn't until around 2000 that PCs caught up to the sophistication that the mainframes had even in the Early 70s. Today, I'm just blown away with how the machines have advanced. One cool thing, though, is knowing that some code I wrote way back in that day is still running today because memories were so small and processors so slow, efficiency of code was required, and that efficiency is still required today for some applications.
Blessings to you!
@@AlexisRanae Ain't that the truth! 😄
I chatted with someone recently who has a similar story to yours. He described having to print the compiled byte code onto some sort of film and learning assembly language was how you got the hardware to do the needful. Was a very interesting conversation.
I CANNOT FEATURE TO ADD A LINK OPTION?
Me at start of your videos: "I think I've got a good grasp on this subject". Me throughout the next 20 minutes: "It does that? -- I can do it that way? -- That'll save me some time!"
Thanks so much!!
I was looking for a way to ditch Evernote and find a great alternative. Some are expensive, cumbersome, overwhelming, underwhelming and there is Notes… I exported my enex notebooks and imported every single notes to Notes. Added some tags to every note imported and created smart folders, and the job is done. The search function is amazing. Please make a video on Apple product sinergies (notes/reminder/mail/calendar/shortcuts) etc… there’s a whole productivity ecosystem that people aren’t aware of. Congratulations on a great job you did here 👏🏻👏🏻
That would be an amazing video. One to combine it all. It’s just like learning a new language. I want to be at the point where I am not thinking about translation, just doing it auto.
I’m working on it, but help would be appreciated.
I love the way you present. So clean and we can still see you but the focus is on what you are doing. Also you are thorough. Thanks.
Clear, precise and to the point. One of the best Presenters you could wish for and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you
Do a video explaining how to create an ebook using Pages.
Goodness… I learnt so much during your video! I love how clear your instructions are, and hadn’t realised the usefulness of Notes. I have successfully tried out all your suggestions! Thank you for an excellent tutorial. It was new to me there were options within the control centre… so have made that more relevant to me too - thanks to you!
Bravo! Excellent presentation; polished and showing deep understanding of the subject-you are a great teacher. Refreshingly free of the superficial gimmickry that many “productivity’’ channels now engage in. As a note taking power user - must agree that Notes is now at a point that it is a compelling first choice app. Finally, keep up the excellent work.
I adore your videos. Your content is always so good, to the point and no BS. I used to use Notion and Evernote, and to be fair neither can integrate seemingly with IOS. I exported my notes out of Notions and put them back into Apple Notes. With drag and drop from a note into reminders, I can link them. Love you work.
Another excellent video and thank you sooooo much for not throwing in any distracting music! It makes such a difference.
I have got to say I have been really enjoying and learning from your videos about all the things that I can with my phone. Didn’t even think about all the ways I could use the different apps and features of my phone until I saw your vids! Thanks❤
This is great video. I learned so much about the Notes app. It's so much more versatile than I ever imagined. Thank you, thank you!
I’ve loved and used the Notes app for a long time, but learned so much more with this video! Thank you!
I love your videos. So practical, so well presented and so very very useful!
Oh, nice. I hadn't tried the tables feature and yeah it'll be good if they start including some basic summing functions. I'd also forgotten about the shapes formalising feature! Thanks for these 👍
A well-made and presented tutorial. Brilliant. My productivity will be increasing using some of what you shared. I just know it. Thank you so much.
excellent review. you took notes from a 'hardly used app' to one that is 'quite powerful' by sharing your knowledge/insight on how to use; much appreciated
Thank you for your iOS tutorials! I watched one and found myself down a rabbit whole for hours watching and learning! I have been wanting to figure out a good system for organizing my life and to help me remember things and didn’t realize the fools have been in my hands all along! You keep me interested and are so knowledgeable. I appreciate you! 😊
Consistently good presentations in these Proper Honest Tech videos. I'm impressed. Good info, well presented, and no annoyingly visible efforts to seem clever and cool. Just good info presented knowledgeably in a straight-forward manner. Thanks.
I am very grateful for your generosity in sharing your expertise, the way you do, clear - short and yo the point with no bla nla bla.
I’ve used Notes off and on for years but I really need to embrace routinely! Thanks for great vid
I LOVE quick notes! Thank you for showing us.
Great video! I will now utilize Apple Notes and features I didn’t know existed. I have been under utilizing the the full capacity of Apple notes.
Beautiful understated professional video. And such good info about Notes. Thank you
What a great video, I learnt so much about Notes, it really is quite impressive what can be done, thanks for making this very informative video. Subscribed!
Thank you!! This was super helpful
Great content. Learned quite a bit. A lot of does don’t know the half potential of these shiny new devices we carry around. 🤦🏽♂️ Thank you.
Your speaking skills and diction is impeccable, man!
Thank you for the amazing information you provide. I would pay for your content it’s that good.
Love your vids, awesome channel, thanks for the work you put into this
perfect presentation, well spoken, formulated and articulated, outstanding. This is a real help, thanks a lot for your time to set this up. I will try to support you (I have to find out how this works😉)
I'm just learning more about Notes. Thanks so much for your videos. I'd like to be able to put a document into a note or file in a future version. Thanks, again.
Thank you! Even though i am a keen Notes user, I had completely overlooked the scan text feature.
A lot of things to sink in as I'm new to iOS device. Need to familiarise and watch your videos again and again. Thanks for this video
I love your passion for this topic
Great as always. I love Notes and your very useful tutorial comes in handy to understand how to use it. Thank you. Always look forward to your excellent videos.
Thank you this was so easy and worked beautifully
By the way, you can swipe to the right on a shared note and it will highlight the modifications from other people, super useful
Fabulous video! You have excellent videos all the time and I always learn new, helpful things! Thank you for all your hard work! You’re awesome!
Thank you, that's really kind of you to say so!
Thanks for another excellent video. Something I love about Google Keep is the ability to set a range of background colours to notes, which I don’t believe Apple Notes does. I use Google Keep for capturing and accessing information on the go, so found the colour coding really useful.
It’s possible to edit the text color on Notes, MacOS. Not so sure about the background color but I’ll check next time.
Thanks for another great video!
Very clear, concise and informative. Thank you.
Thanks for this thorough review. I plan to really use the Notes app now!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent Thank you Ideal use of the building block approach to teaching. Well done!
Great video, love the quick notes tip, that was a new one for me.
This video was very helpful thank you
Outstanding video. So informative! Thank you!
Thank you very much for the information. Very well put and very helpful. Cheers!
Excellent content, thank you. You asked about desired features - a connection to reminders from notes and the ability to generate a quick note from a meeting in the calendar would be excellent.
Thanks for the overview! Your videos are always super in depth and informative, I appreciate it! The Notes app has become quite a bit more useful over the years. My fiancée and I have actually been using it (via a smart folders) for planning our wedding, so we’ll be utilizing some of the tips mentioned here, too!
Great summary of Notes. I learned a lot of useful features for Notes. Great job.
I love this, again, thanks again
An excellent in depth analysis on how to use the new facilities in Notes. great detail and examples. Thanks
Very well explained. Thanks!
Very educational video thank you!
So helpful, thank you! I'll be checking out more videos for sure :)
Great video very helpful
Another informative video and particularly useful as Imuse notes frequently. thank you
Great walk-through, thank you!
Amazing content as always!!
I use Notes a lot, but I learned something new!!! Thanks!!!!
I do a lot with Apple Notes, so I appreciated this video. Thanks.
Thank you so so much for the invaluable information you provide. I only came across your site a few weeks ago but have learned so much. I love how you explain things in simple layman terms and make it easy to follow and understand. Without people like yourself we wouldn’t have a clue……… I’ll definitely buy you a coffee when I find your video how to use it 👍
May I just ask one question, if using this on my iPhone 14 Pro max will it sync with my ipad Pro 12.9 & ipad Pro 11. They're all on the latest software and I update my apps daily.
Once again thank you so much.
PEACE ✌️ & LOVE ❤️
Wow, this was a great video on Notes. I didn't realize that Notes had improved so much. I have started creating new folders for my info because I use the Notes App so much now. Will be able to find information quicker after viewing your video. Appreciate the work you put into making this one. Awesome.
Very well presented
Another fine video. Thank you. I was a long time Evernote user since 2008, with a few years of OneNote recently. I’ve since moved my ‘Second Brain’ over to Apple Notes and love it. Love the way it integrates so well with other Apple apps, such as Reminders. Plus search is surprisingly good.
Only minor gripes , I’d love to see the OneNote feature of being able to do numeric calculations on notes . Also I do miss the ‘infinite’ canvas of OneNote. But only minor issues . Apple notes is excellent.
I CANNOT FEATURE TO ADD A LINK OPTION?
I've used the Notes app in IOS since 2016. I press the Talk to Siri button on my Kia's steering wheel while driving and say "Note to self" and Siri opens the Note app and says "what do you want it to say?" and Siri transcribes the note into Note app and reads it back to me if it is long enough. It can even read back previous notes one at a time if I so choose.
Secondly, I almost always use the mic button to enter text in Notes and Google Keep and other apps as well since it is much easier to speak than to one finger type.
Thirdly, the default type face is Bold Title type face but if you once select Subheading Not Bold it will stay at that type face until you change it even when using voice input.
I have used and loved both Google Keep and Notes for years and find them very valuable and they even work with my Apple Watch.
Brilliant! Thanks.
Excellent video - very helpful.
Very cool! I didn’t realize how functional this app is. I have been using it manually forever
The part about Quick Notes on Safari was brand new info for me! Very useful, thank you!!
Oh, and the scan text option is SO COOL!
Lovely post with helpful information. This tutorial ha really helped me a lot. I do like and enjoyed this cool video.
A very usefull and good explanation - thank you very much 👍👍👍
Fantastic video. Many thanks.
Great video Tom. I use notes all the time, fab tool which just gets better. And to your point, it’s free.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Mind blown. This is so good!
I absolutely love Apple Notes. There are just 2 things that I'd like them to do:
- Just like you mentioned, allow Smart Folders to be nested into one another - I already have folders like that so allowing them to be Smart Folders would just make things easier and quicker.
- Being able to record and replay recordings that are synced with notes, like you can in Notability.
Very much agree and ephasize the ability to nest folders. Perhaps its their way of not creating a duplicate.
I would add noe that freeform is available the ability to share a note directly to freeform would be much appreciated and remive the steps of copy and paste as it can be done but clunky
I Still struggle with Smart Folder. I dork understand it at all
Hi, Tom. This one is good. Thanks. I like and use Notes a lot. What I miss here is ability to copy/move note to calendar event. What we can do is to copy whole text (Cmnd C - Cmnd V) we have in note then move it to existing calendar event but what I mean is to have a quick action/button to do so. For example any Note - 3dot section and click to add to calendar event or create new event just right from the note app. I hope one day we get this as a gift from Cupertino.
Think you just saved me a fortune!
Thanks for this neat presentation. I’ve learned a lot; the more interesting new feature seems Quick Notes and how it could help in the iOS environment.
As others mentioned, a video on the connections between the different Apple apps would be more than welcome.
Keep up with your work.
worth watching
Good informative content.
They should give option to have coloured headings, not sure if that’s available. I use that to visibly know which of my note is important or against others in a folder In a third party app
Fantastic video!!!!
Good content. Excellent and succinct information. Easy to follow and understand. Subscribed.
Outstanding lesson….
Excellent video! It prompted me to re-organize my Apple notes folders, as well as discover that when you go to a website, you can click on the share icon and mark up the webpage and send it to Apple notes! Super cool! I have been trying to figure out if I should go back to Evernote or use both Apple and Evernote. But it looks like I can just stick to Apple notes and stay within the Apple ecosystem since all the features I want are here! Thanks so much for this video. 🎉
Another great video, not really used notes to any extent. Very informative although I couldn’t get the quick note to grab the url when using safari but found out it doesn’t work when using private mode!
Thank you i have so much to learned from you...
That's great to hear!
Thank you
Damn you’re good at this. Subbed.
Awesome! You show 2nd Brain…do you have a video on setup and use within Apple Notes?
good job man
Excellent great detail and very useful learnt a few extras, only just found you so subscribed.
thanks!
love your videos man!
I appreciate that!
I enjoyed your video
Dude you are the man! I legit had no idea about half this stuff.
Thanks! Glad you found the video helpful!
I’m a fan of Apple Notes and use it daily. If I could add one feature it would be a REMINDER function similar to use of @ with Notion. I enjoyed this video and learned a couple of tricks. Thanks.
Thank you very helpful video! I was hoping that I could change the text colour on notes but alas not possible yet on Iphone fingers are crossed it will be added soon!
Hi 👋 Thank you, you’re doing a good job showing me new trick for my iPhone 📲 , Nathalie from Montreal 🇨🇦✌️😊
