Hi guys, I have just recently finished installing the Kings control box ,DCDC charger , 12 volt battery box, Kings AGM battery and 50 amp wiring kit in my Colorado. I am so grateful for the step buy step video that you guys do so well. It worked first time I turned the key with no hassles at all. Also ran a 50 amp wiring kit to the rear bumper for the Caravan. Also worked a treat. Thank you so much for helping out us DIYers.
I done the exact same thing only 2 days ago, if you pull it back out it should be pretty easy to tell which pairs are meant to go together. Aside from that, I would assume they would all go to a common point inside the unit.
Got a question, Do you still need to undo the connection from your vehicle batteries if your not using it, what if you leave it connected, does it going to drain your vehicle battery?
I’m running this set up from a custom camp trailer. I have a 50amp Anderson installed from my Auxiliary battery to the back of my car already. Question. Where do I run the blue wire to could it be installed in the Anderson so it’s a simple connect when hitching up the trailer?
Hi there, for the blue wire connection it does need to run directly to the vehicle's 12v circuit, however as long as it does so there is a separate connection, this should run fine. Kind regards, Rachael
Hey, awesome videos have helped me a beauty, just have a question about the 25A charger, I understand it has a 300watt capacity, I am running a 250watt portable Solar panel with its own mppt regulator, and I was wanting to run a fixed Solar panel but through the charger, now that will exceed 300watts but I was wondering because they are run through different regulators will it affect the DCDC chargers 300watt capacity?
Hi there, I can confirm the full system would still be supported by the connected battery, though charging would be via the attached inputs such as the alternator or solar. Regards, Andrew
Hey, quick question. I’m doing this install to my ‘24 Hilux. If I install the DCDC charger to the control box like shown. Do I need to also install a smart battery isolator to the AUX battery? Or is the DCDC charger doing the same thing? Cheers
Hi there, I can advise that you shouldn't need a secondary isolator, as the DCDC will connect in to the vehicle ignition circuit to determine when to isolate. Regards, Andrew
i did exactly what yu did , plugged her in vault meter tried to show volts then nothing got power to dc/dc via control box anderson plug style. power too dc/dc but not giving power out.
Hi there, This may be due to not being able to correctly read load in the wiring set up, for alternators we would recommend ensuring that the appropriate temp / ignition censor is reading correctly, for solar checking the inputs may be required. Regards, Andrew
Hi, can I put the yellow and black cable directly to the control box (once I put ring terminals on it) the same way as you did with the old dcdc charger? Instead of using the anderson plug?
Yeah of course - just ensure that the red wire out from DCDC connects to the control box terminal post that is connected to the control box, and that your alternator input will go to the other post, that isn't connected to anything. That way your control box is powered by your aux battery, not the starter battery! The manual for the control box should have a wiring diagram that's easy to follow and shows where particular things need to connect - but if you need more info, let me know! Cheers, Cahn
80% discharge means you need to recharge 240A. To do this in 3 hours, you would need an 80A DC-DC charger. You could install 2 40A if your alternator has the capacity, or it would take 6 hours otherwise.
If you want to hard wire (Rather than use the quick connect plug) you would connect the starter battery positive input to the spare terminal, and the negative to the common earth terminal, so you can use ring temirnals on the DCDC and on the starter battery wiring to connect it all up. The manual for the 12V Control Box shows this in diagrams. Alternatively you could use a butt crimp and connect the DCDC wiring direct to starter battery wiring - but the terminal makes it easier to connect and disconnect if need be! Cheers, Cahn

Just a quick question regarding the 2nd Anderson plug, has anyone actually used it? Every video I’ve watched on all the control boxes out there, no one plugs it into anything! What’s the point of it? Also it would be great if Kings do a video of wiring up using the rocker switches to some canopy lights etc

Is this a recommendation for a 'cleaner' looking install? as id like to keep option for two quick connects as received and just mount (adjacent) the solar through one of the box side inserts. I guess the way you demonstrated takes advantage of the fuse connection internally? Your thoughts? Thankyou
Hi, my duel cab MY17 already has power from the starter battery into a duel fused distribution block under the bonnet that runs to the back of the car and feeds the fridge, and the other charges the battery in the c/van through a dcdc. Will a 3rd feed from the main battery to a dcdc charger in the canopy charge another battery or be too much for the alternator? Not sure if the blue wire can go to a cig socket in the back seat area of the car! Looks like a good product. Cheers
Take the feed for the fridge off the current position, and feed it from the Second battery. That way the fridge wont drain the main battery. You can now feed he DCDC charger from the existing battery feed.. The blue wire should go to a known switched power supply, ( at the fuse box is a good idea) not all power outlets are switched..

Hi there, Thank you for the follow up, I can advise that the unit would default to the setting for a manual toggle / isolator set up when there is no active use for the ignition cable, which would generally be piggybacked off of the internal ignition line (Cig sockets are the best for this) which would be the reason why its showing a lower charge voltage as it'd be pulling charge while at the lights to normalise charge, though it'll show a lower value on the starter than the actual charge level. Regards, Andrew
Its a good idea, to connect the second battery directly to the chassis, after making sure the earth connection is a good one. Some cars have a load sensor on the battery neg terminal, so its a good idea not to connect there.
The chassis is the common point , of the earth/ground system. Neutral is a term used in AC systems, not 12/24volt DC systems. Its pretty hard to get cables mixed up, as positive is red and ground is usually black..
