Forestry Mulcher on a Tractor!

- In this video were going to be using a Forestry Mulcher on a tractor. This baumalite MP360 is designed for tractors and mimics a forestry mulcher you would normally see on a skid steer, or other piece of heavy equipment. I am using a Kubota L4701 with the Baumalite Brush Mulcher.

So I have the L4701 and have cleared 20 of my 40 acres with similar and even bigger trees. I pushed over and ripped out the trees with a grapple then tossed them in a burn pile. Went back and rotary cut the rest of the smaller stuff. no stumps to deal with and much faster. pushing those trees over and pulling them up roots and all, saves you a headache later and saves your tires. The L4701 is a beast of a compact tractor.
I’m very happy with the tractor. It’s done everything I ask of it.
She is heavy duty. I love how is mulches everything down. Makes a clean job.
Can’t wait to really give it a whirl when I have land that need to be clear cut!
Very cool! Glad you took it out for a test run instead of making us wait! That thing is badass!
Can’t wait to get it out on a real
Job and not just a little test
Awesome attachment! I run a FAE head on a skid steer and have been surprised at the odd ways things can be thrown and bounced back at the machine. You might consider placing a mesh or polycarbonate divider on your roll cage to keep you safe. Also, keep the cutter low to the ground. Upstate brush control has a great channel and demonstrates safe mulching techniques of you're interested. Have fun and be safe.
I actually mention that channel when I got this unit out of the crate, I watch them all the time! My plan is to magnet mount some expanded metal to my ROPS for easy install and removal. Even if something hits it and knocks it off as long as it stops that something from hitting me I won’t mind picking the guard up off the ground
That is a NICE attachment! It definitely would be better than a brush hog on bigger trees. I'm sure you'll be putting it to many uses soon!
Yeah it’s going to be very useful,
Once the ground dries up
Nice attachment. Think You'll find it works easier in spring and summer when trees are taking on moisture.
I never considered the moisture content of trees to make a difference, that’s a good point!
That thing is dangerous, I love it!
Love the danger. Makes me feel alive
Elliott that is an awesome machine. One that I have been looking into in the future. I need a bigger tractor first though.
I’ll be interested to see how it holds up to a longer mulching session…both the unit and my tractor!
I was owner/operator of a ASV Positrac with Fecon mulching head so watching this brought back memories. My machine had extensive forestry protection so as you sense, anything exposed is fair game including YOU! Be sure and wear good eye protection maybe a face shield because stuff can ricochet !
There is no doubt that flying debris is a concern! I’ll be better prepared when I jump in with both feet. Thanks for watching
When you get more used to it and it gets more broken in so as to be able to let it all the way down probably would be easier on the rear tires. A bad puncture on those tires would lead to an expensive day in a hurry. Be careful thanks for the video have a good day. Warren in Vermont.
Hi Warren! Thanks for watching! Yeah I want to follow the correct “break in” procedure so I can really utilize this thing the way it’s supposed to be.
You can use that wood mulch for fire starter material.
That’s a good idea!
I wouldn't trust that any farther than I could throw it. A skid steer setup i have seen which would be better in my opinion. Too much things can happen under the tractor to tear up.
Huge difference in price between the two though. Total investment here of about $30k a skid and mulcher is an investment of around 100k. It’ll work well for what I need it for
Also, could build a sort of A frame off the top plate if there is another tree that falls forward it will cause it to slide to the side instead of at you.
That’s a good idea!
Nice. I’m wondering if my Yanmar 425 at 23.9 HP and 18.1 at the PTO would handle this?
Probably not this specific model, however they make a smaller one more suited for your machine
😮 interesting 🤔. Was it worth the money 💰 assuming to early to tell. Woke up to 1/4 inch of snow here. 😢
I’ll have a better idea at the end of summer
Do they make a roof or bar attachment for your tractor. Maybe fab something up quick. Hate to see a sapling fall down on your noggin!
They do but that would increase the height of my tractor and it barely squeaks in my rear shop door as is
You can bring it up to Niagra County anytime you want
That’s a hike for me
@@EverythingElliott ok I'll come down and grab the unit and bring it back in a week 🤪 how is that I'd like it while everything is frozen. Lol
Na , great job keep up the great work . ,
I don't think my 26hp Kubota would even spin that thing up. Bad ass. Did you destroy your other camera or what?
The camera lived. The footage was less than ideal.
I own a Terex pt110 forestry with a loftness G4 mulching drum. Even behind that polycarbonate door and fully caged up stuff has still come back and hit hard enough to gouge scratches and dents in it and it throws material a couple 100 feet forward and even behind the machine from underneath. I couldn’t imagine doing this on an open station tractor. The other thing I’d recommend is cutting the trees down first before grinding them. Without guide bars over the mulcher like you have with a skid steer there’s no way to prevent stuff from coming down on top of you as you almost experienced . Please please be careful with that thing. Put up a guard or mesh or something between the ROPS to protect yourself.
I don’t disagree with anything you said, and intend to make a guard. The major difference between the two is mulching heads are designed to throw the material forward while this unit is designed to throw the material under the tractor. Obviously things get stuck and run all the way around the drum so there is a possibility of something being thrown backward and bouncing off a tree.
@@EverythingElliott no doubt. Just be careful brother. I enjoy your content and would hate to see it come to a premature end.
No way 😊😊😊😊😊
Going to be a good summer of clearing land!
Man that can really munch, what happened to all your snow Elliot
Fake spring happened, we had a warm up and it melted
Dang. I have more snow then you down here in Monroe County Pennsylvania.
Yeah we had fake spring with a warm up and it all melted
Watch Eric out doors he does alot of mulching.
I’ll have to check it out, thanks for the tip!
You don't get tired, look back? What about the people who have a problem with their neck
I suppose I would if done for long enough. You can also drive forward if you’re not going over trees and are just taking care of brush
