BMW sure knows how to make the outgoing model look that much more attractive.
Lol
I mean the old 2 Series and the M2 were attractive
@@lars9168 that’s literally his point
At least it didn't get the butt ass ugly Beaver Teeth like the M3 & M4...
And then, when the next model comes in, it'll get everyone back after seeing the "big improvement" in design.
It's a downgrade from the last gen but at least they didn't butcher the kidney grills.
Pls do a video on the new LOTUS!
The m3 and m4 grilles look fine you're the issue
@@soulsnatcher5408 You're right, they shouldn't have included me on the rear bumper. My elbows really ruin the design.
@@soulsnatcher5408 don't even say it is not an issue. Bmw even said that 1 out of 5 people love the design which mean that only 20% of the people love it and that is a big problem.
Yeah this grill is what people want, it looks much cleaner & classier
@@soulsnatcher5408 lol, salty much?
The headlights killed it for me… it looks like a glorified Subaru BRZ on the front now…
A coupe version of the latest Opel Corsa
BMW and butchering designs. Name a more iconic duo.
But....that's what it is
it's supposed to be inspired by the BMW 2002.
I don't really mind the headlights. But the lower left/right triangular "wents" look kinda off, nothing we've seen on a bmw so far and makes the front look tall
The outgoing design has such a pleasing mix of surfaces over the doors and the new model is just... flat and boring.
Facts
You're right mate. I suppose it's because of aerodynamics?
It looks like a Hyundai to be fair
? I dont understand whats your problem
It looks autistic
You can’t make cars that consistently ugly by accident.
Its the EV agenda. Downgrading the best ICE cars in looks, features and performance, sound etc all stuff that intimidates the EVs. Give it a decade or so, this will become the new norm for ICE cars and EVs will look better. New generations wont understand and buy the EVs in bulk.
@@94RS I hate this sht, and they dont do this for the enviroment or anything, Its just for the money...
fun part is that people who aren't bmw-heads don't care at all/like it. I really don't find ugly at all for ex ample.
@@DaGhost141 for me, the front isn't bad but they ruined the back
@@DaGhost141 Thats the thing, only people like us would care for things like "Brand Indentity" or "Design Language" or "Sportiness", most people only see cars just like how they see their fridge... But they are more than that
the front end actually isnt horrible. but the rear has no haunches, the sides just fall down around the tail lights, instead of having pronounced hips that two door cars should!
Imo the front end is horrible, the previous one had smooth flowing lines while this new one has geometric shapes and lines that go nowhere. Maybe as its own car it's ok, but definitely not a 2 series
Nah the grill is like someone bent it down the middle. And the side vents (brake vents?) is weird. Not bad but just mildly off
They literally just have to mirror the rear lights vertically and place them a few centimeters higher. I edited the car myself this way in Photoshop and it makes a huuuge difference
@@CptUhudini the vertical slat on the side too. Just angle it slightly
Tail light swap
Really can't believe that rear was approved 😩
Me neither... It's ugly af.
Well, look what was approved for the 3/4-series front...smh
cant believe you approves your ugly hair lmao
@@paul4292 bruh
hahahahaha
The last M2 was the best-looking car in BMW's modern history.
Current M8 wants to have a talk
@@diogobotelho5141 not that great imo
@@romco98 m8 look great
@@chongxina237 didn't say it isn't
The back design is “unrescueble”
Rotate the tail lights 180°
No
Yes exactly that. I did an edit of the rear where I flipped them and it makes a huuuge difference
Yes! Agree
BMWs must have L-shaped taillights, period.
At this point in time I genuinely believe they have some kind of bet/challenge going on at the design department to see how much crap they can get away with, while still being able to sell a car. 😅
I’m sorry but those tail lights are just awful. The front end is acceptable given bmw’s latest styling cues.
Just like the iX it doesn’t really look like a traditional BMW. It kinda feels like BMW is just experimenting and trying to figure out in which direction they should go in the future.
Yeah almost every model has a differerent design language the 2 3and 4 5 6 7 and 8
@@bigczad9869 Yeah, like SM said, throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks..
@@jamesaron1967 And literally nothing sticks lol. They somehow manage to mess up something on every new car they make...
This definitely doesn't stick with me, current 2 series is perfect in my eyes
I know which direction they should go to....to the one they were at in the early 2010's.
0:44 Wow a 4L turbo engine in the base model, fantastic! (i4 engine)
Yeah, I got confused for a second.
pee wee engines. Needed a V8. Imagine a small car like this with a TT V8
@@paladin3116 and it would handle like a yacht
@@paladin3116
Useless is what it would be
@@ihavewaited90daystochangem51 how?
Yet again the sketchmonkey has fixed another “problem design”
Sure it looks like a mess but
sometimes it’s better engineered to perform better so looks need to be sacrificed
Hahahahahaha. I see no problems with the look of it. The 2 series is not locked in by heritage or tradition so at can look however.
@@christopherdaniel2747 heritage or not, you can’t deny that this is bad design
@@faraziqbal188 agreed
@@faraziqbal188 bad design really! Jack and Jills claiming to knw car designs and BMW language 🙄
hey, just please, turn a gaz-21 into a retro SUV, people, like this so he reads this.
BMW is really trying their best to abuse my eyes
The rear lights look like something that Nissan would do.
The rear has the same vibe as the old Nissan Sentra.
reminds me of the e90. and that's not a good thing
0:45 the 230i has a 4 litre? Mmmmm
My exact thoughts😂😂
now as a malaysian, the rear end of the new 2 series sort of resemble our national car called Proton Persona, especially the facelifted version. Check it out if you don't believe me
oh no
I dont see it… at all
@@tobiasnaylor Only the rear tail lights shape. But in the end, both are eye sores. So, who cares.
@@tobiasnaylor the rear lights
only thing a persona has in common with a bmw LMAO
It's like they picked a different designer for every panel, what a ugly, incoherent mess of a car.
ESPECIALLY when compared to the previous 2 Series, such a shame.
The new design is a substantial downgrade over the previous 2 series, the old one was just beautiful
Fiat + Hyundai = 2 series
Wtf is bmw doing
Going on a 5 year losing streak
This looks like every other Kia and Hyundai on the road. In traffic this will be almost unrecognizable as a BMW, other than the grille
Let's say it is the best looking car, BMW produced in the last few years
This redesign did so much for the car. Looks much better now. 👌
Every car makers should have to clear their designs through you
Changes he done, make no difference at all. Rear end is just abyssmal. Upside down shrunked down stupid tailights and lack of natural flow or any lines makes it superbly ugly, it doesnt even echo the front end and M2 version is even worse.
I still like the leaner proportions and lines of the predecessor more, but I am particularly fond of how they treated the kidney grille here, adding some depth, but also keeping it quite sleek and tensed.
The car looks great and the M2 will look even better. Its sad that ppl will bash BMW no matter what they make now
Think im the only one who appreciates every car for what it is and looks like, not like body kits dont exist or custom shops
I think this is the best recommendation I’ve ever had on UA-cam. Such an amazing channel o never knew existed. Subbed 🤝
I'm so glad I subbed to your channel a long time ago, I really respect your input/opinion on car design
Everyone is comparing this car to older M2, instead of the 240i - gotta remember this is NOT the new M2 so that’s not a fair comparison. Last gen base model 2 series looked completely bland and boring in comparison…
The only difference between the older M2 and the older M240i exterior wise is the rear bumper and lower front air intakes.
@@drmanhattan5219 Not true. Front/rear bumpers, diffuser, side skirts, bimmerangs, M-wheels and last but definitely not least, fender flares.
Idk the m240i looked pretty good imo
Wrong...
@@shuman4163 fender flares, the magic of the m2, a wide ass bitch
stunning looking car, the original one as well as the SketchMonkey version.
You like the rear end? Stop smoking crack
I’m just losing more and more interest in sports cars and bmw in specific. The designs are becoming very weird and the disconnect from the driving experience is increasing more and more.
in particular you mean not "in specific"
@@edism thanks grammar police
@@falkyerth5309 Nothing to do with grammar, no need to act butthurt just because you got something basic wrong.
@@edism I’m not butt hurt, it’s actually hilarious you find time to correct people online. It bothered you that much you had to point it out by commenting. Bravo! You win a new prize! Deez nutz! 🤣 Hear what I mean not what I say.
@@falkyerth5309 You are trying to correct BMW I see no difference lmao
As a ‘14 M235i in gray owner, who is in total LOVE with my car, WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS BASICALLY THERAPY FOR MY JUDGMENTAL MIND 😆🤣😂 Thank you 🙏
bmw is doing literally everything they could do wrong, wrong lately on the design part
the only issue I have with it is they took away the double halos and the rear looks a little bland. another thing i think people keep overlooking is, THIS ISNT AN M2, its the 240i and if we compare it to the previous 240i it looks miles better. 6:30 I think they were going for that smiley/ little less aggressive look that you see on the current 240i, id love to see them kind of flip this on its head and give something for those triangles to lead into for the m2 like the current m2 does and have that very clear distinction between models.
You nailed it!! How is it possible that BMW doesnt see this???
Your Changes Makes the Cars Looks so much better
Are you planning on doing a video of the new Lotus Emira?
There are some details that i cannot believe that BMW missed. Like how short the front and rear lights are, or how busy the front part is. But just by making the lights longer you improved the design massively. How can BMW miss this? BMW hire this man!
I must be the oddball because I love the way this new 2 series coupe looks (front to back). Test drove one yesterday and hopefully it will be in our stable in the near future in that same color.
Hi man,
Big respect for what you did here. Changing a design but keeping the original design intent is not easy. Your changes look great. I think we can all agree that BMW's newer cars are quite controversial when it comes to the designs. I dont know if seeing other designers on youtube being able to do it better is a positive or a negative for me :P
I am definately sticking to the F-series for now, until better aftermarket opporunities comes out, to be able to keep the BMW'esk design.
I was very happy to see you mention the hoffmeister kink. That was really something that bothered me with multiple of their other cars. I was however very surprised that you didnt mention how much the profile has changed with the lines on the side of their cars. To me the lines down the side of their newer line, does not hit the same agressive but still modest look as the F-series and later E-series managed to do.
It's a absolutely slick and beautiful design I think. And it looks not cheap at all! I think it's no need to sketch it new. I totally love it. I guess it will be my new daily drive after my 2019 CLA in the next few years
Lately I haven’t been feeling your redesigns, but this one was perfect, well done!
Yeah
BMW needs to hire you on their design team. Bravo 👏
Now that you mention it the new X3 taillights look like Halo Energy Swords
You killed it on the new front end. So much better.
People will always find an excuse to complain about new BMWs lmao. They really can’t catch a break. Everyone should also stop comparing the current M2 to this standard 2 series.
I love how bmw has gone with the post 2006 325i look but kind of lost track along the way but your redesign fixed it from looking like a supra to now actually looking like a bmw 😍😍😍😍
Cars like this just makes me wanna keep my old 1 series and modfify it a little bit insted of getting a newer model
I love the 1 series.
Can’t wait for the Lotus Emira vid 😰😰
Hi! first of all, interesting analysis, love your redesign overall. Early on you presented this idea that the hood of the new 2 series looks too long proportionately, but perhaps you can explain why you think that in contrast to a car such as the Mercedes GT coupe ; enormous hood, greenhouse/windscreen line terminates behind the front axle and yet (atleast to me) looks proportionately correct.
This car grew on me in a matter of minutes. I absolutely hated it at first, then started to appreciate it. I honestly don't dislike it. But that redisign... yes. It works better.
Bmw finally got the front right…THEN MESSES UP THE REAR
Have you not seen the current 2 series? This is better
@@_baller this is the current 2 series
@@UMR_-mo2sb no moron, this is the new 2022 240, the current 2 series is even more atrocious with an even worse rear end, keep up
@@_baller bruv if ur talking about the 2 series gran coupe, then just say...2 SERIES GRAN COUPE...who tf says moron
BMW is in an experimental phase rn. It looks great IMO
These little changes makes it look so much better and bmw should stop with the 3D taillights and the blank black parts on them
Hey dude. Been watching some of your videos lately and you've earned a new subscriber. Thanks for what you do!
First thing that come to my mind when I saw this s2 yesterday, was this channel. Really well done, looks better now.
Wrong...
Nice one. I think the new 2 is a stunner, and I agree with most of your points. I even like a lot of your changes in the front esp. But I am absolutely head over heals in love with this car. CANNOT WAIT to get behind the wheel.
i have a 15 m235i, seeing this car come out made me want to hold onto it even more! the first time i saw this new gen, i thought it looked like my car squinting, the headlights and taillights looked so toyish to me.
Anyone realized that the rear lights are just the headlights upside down? (talking about the led part of it)
Concise review, very good. Do you think the power dome is primarily there because of pedestrian impact legislation?
Have an M2 comp DCT so very interested in the next offering or, a Lotus Emira, let’s see, my M2 is frigging great so let’s see.
I actually love it, looks absolutely insane. Like a concept car that actually made it into production. But then again it’s a new BMW so you are supposed to hate on it to be cool🤣 Idk how most of ya’ll call yourself BMW fans when you hate on everything they make
I mean… it’s literally just ugly. I have an M240i and man I’m so glad i bought it instead of waiting for something new
The only thing insane is you because it's horrendous.
when you widened the rear lights, it looked a lot like a mercedes. great job!
I think the error in all brands is to make their models larger in the next generation, starts to create a gap in the lineup and making the car more luxuries does it too, Audi did it also with the A2. The m2 is the original 1980s m3.
I was just researching for my video about this car 😂
Nice promotion
@@joshuathomas512 I wasn’t trying to but I was telling the truth
@@TheCarKrazeOfficial yeah it's fine, didn't feel forced
@@joshuathomas512 👍
The triangular front vents are a weird one… maybe they took inspiration from the facelift e46 SE coupe? It worked on that car
You should try to do a video together with Frank Stephenson and each of you should try to expose opinions etc about cars you like or how both of you would like to "correct" those design. Those videos would be just EPIC
The new 2series coupe now utilizes the the 3series and 4series platform hence the longer wheelbase lending to the longer bonnet. BMW designers did a good job considering this.
Have you done a video on the Polestar 2 yet? I think this thing is one of the most beautiful new EV today!
Thanks for the informative video I would like to know your opinion about getting m240 or m440 if I don’t care about rear seats
@thesketchmonkey 10:07 looks like a great shooting break with your PIP cutting out the rear!
Am I the only one that likes the design?
No.
I think it's gorgeous, and really disagree with all the negativity.
After consequences from eating to much mushrooms (the kidney debacle and the front wheel drive), this new 2 series looks like a proper 2 door BMW coupé to me.
But that's just my humble opinion from a E30 owner 😁
Jeep Wrangler refresh design...Please. Also do you get into interior redesigns? Try a refresh of the Corvette C8 dash and WALL between passengers.
You made the rear look so much better!
Hej Sketchmonkey
Har du sett den nya "Elegende EL1"?
Kan du göra en video om den?
Den ser riktigt vilt ut, men det kanske tål lite justeringar.
mvh "en dansk bilmutter"...
Great video, but at the start I think you meant that the 230i has a 4 cylinder, not 4 litres
Great video.
By the way Lotus Emira launched.
What do you think about that?
I feel like the new 2-Series’ are the old 3-series’
Wow it looked so much better with a shorter hood. It looked proportional. I love the new purple though.
man you are goat in bmw design
I love the new design!
That train of thought is exactly why BMW does whatever they want with the new grills
True but like I always say 'See it in reality first' 'Give it a bit of time' and lastly 'Let history judge it too'.
The top of the boot goes up too high for me, if it lined up more with the top of the tail lights then it would look better. The wider lights make it look slightly shorter but it still looks off.
I can see the resemblence the the Z4 in this design. I know car makers try to add attribute to a car range to make they instantly recognizable but the taillight on the 2 series would probable worked better if they had simply flipped them over. you really cleaned up the taillights by adding width to the red portion. I think adding more red would help even more.
I like your updates to the 2 Series.
I really wish that it was more like your version it looks so much better to me
I'm an f22 owner and I prefer the old design, and I don't like how this one is going to weigh as much as most mountains. That interior is vastly improved though, and the front end is kinda growing on me.
I think the rear lacks power and excitement. Reason for that is that the taillights are too low and too far to the side
Someone hire this man pleeeasee
U need to show this to the BMW designer. Designing 101 tutorial 😂
I like the design alot
one of my favourite cars in 2021
The F gen is probably too perfect for everyone
Those subtle changes speak volumes!
This man needs to link up with a body kit manufacturer and start creating oem quality kits that fix horrific oem designs. 👍
