I also take product photography (since 2011) especially for the big stock photo agencies like Shutterstock, Adobe Stock and others. I am surprised of how many photos are sold there. at first i could not afford big lights but i solved the problem by placing the camera on a tripod, set the ISO to 100 and low aperture for long exposures. Results: crisp images of anything! I appreciate the quality of your recent videos on UA-cam, i can see the progress. the dedication, the work... this "show, don't tell" technique works very good for retention, views, etc. Congrats! 👍
Thanks so much Johny, I really appreciate your kind feedback and words. Great tip on lowering ISO! You're right, this video took quite a few hours of filming and editing, even more so than normal! PS I watched your Fujifilm MX-1200 video, great stuff! Good old' smart media memory cards!
I used to sell on eBay. Correct test it test it. I used a pool table and had a brick back ground to a tan wall. Just switch side of the pool table and back ground changed. But I guess whatever you have to balance colors to lighting. It only matters if you just don’t like it simply because you can crop and change or tweak the picture. I used to use so many things to make the picture pop.
Quite true! and if the item I'm taking picture of is the same color as the background, like you said -I definitely try to find something that contrasts well to make the image standout.
What kind of Canon DSLR body do you have? There are 2 different mount types, which is why I ask. I personally really like the 50mm STM lens which is around that price, it's quite versatile and gives some good bokeh too.

The biggest problem I have is vertical banding from LED lights. How do you avoid/adjust for this problem?
I've found that if you can position the lights a bit further away from the subject, it reduces the banding issues.
What DSLR Canon lens did hou recommend for around $125?

@@pricklypearcamera I have an older Canon EOS T4i. Thank you for your reply!
There was no link for the adapter
You only need a phone with a camera, using a digital camera is such a waste of time
