Easy way to AIM you Traditional Bow
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 сер 2018
- This is my way to aim my traditional recurve bows. I've tried many ways but this has offered me the most consistency.
However, if your form isn't consistent, working on your aiming technique (no matter what method) will be frustrating.
Spend the time on form. Practice, practice practice.

Bambi : I heard that
That wimpy deer?
LOVE the tutorial video: there can NEVER be enough "How I Practice" videos, because EVERY single archer can find themselves sharing what might be a simple, tiny "insight" to them, but may be JUST "the thing" another archer has been seeking to help perfect their own shooting.
For those of you who are open to exploring additional tips & techniques to possibly incorporate into your own shooting methods & styles, I humbly offer this:
COMBINE:
String Walking with FINGER WIDTHS (whole, half, quarter, eighth)
for PRECISE ARROW ELEVATION SETTING from the REAR of the bow
AND Anchoring UNDER the chin
for DRAMATICALLY increased ARROW RANGE even out to 120 yds
AND sighting down the left string edge as a "rear sight"
for COMPOUND-like ACCURACY
AND using the ARROW TIP as a "front pin"
again for COMPOUND-like ACCURACY
... and TOGETHER you have a FORMIDABLE SHOOTING METHOD which eliminates the weaknesses in many popular barebow shooting methods, but which even newbies and experienced archers can learn in 5 minutes...
Here's a video of me using this method to shoot an ordinary hunting recurve bow and common $6 hunting arrows at 100 YDS, and hitting 5 of 6 ON-TARGET even in a cross wind !
IMAGINE how accurate YOU can instantly become at distances from 10m to 50m to 70m and everything in between!
ua-cam.com/video/Cn0gxNeTITQ/v-deo.html
Again, changes aren't for everyone, but for archers looking to improve their long-distance range and accuracy, this method might be something you'll find interesting.
KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDEOS !
Great advice. Thanks!
Boy that was a long way of saying something simple and what all people will figure out easily anyway. Wish more people were intelligent enough to figure this out. If a person cant figure out the basics , they never will. So start with the next step up and save us the terror of the DUMBASS low IQ people. Or label your videoes as children education.
Best advice I have ever heard, quick and to the point. Thanks
Love this. Used to have hay bails in our backyard to shoot after school. The cheapest bow & arrows, but almost always hit the target. It was relaxing. I should start again 😊
Used this method today, I was a lot more consistent and it helped a ton.
Glad to hear this helped you. Most importantly have fun... But of course hitting what you want is actually more fun!
I have to agree with that. It's ALL about practice and a consistent repeatable shot cycle.....And VERY little to do with the cost of the equipment........................
Being able to accurately judge distance is the key
So glad this is a thing. My riser by pure coincidence has two wood grain notches that just so happen to be on at 20 and 30yards..... Game changer
Nice! Lucky wood grain. It's like it was meant to be🐞
Great simple advice and a nice short vid. Thanks mate great work!!
Thank you
Simple and practical! Thanks
I did the same when learning with the markings. Even the same bow. After much practice you eventually learn your gaps and it becomes instinctive and you no longer need the reference marks.
Absolutely! You're right about removimg the markings with practice
I had my riser refinished. It was snow white. So it was really good color to learn with. I did exactly what you had done here. I grabbed a sharpie and put a tiny dot and till i found the sweet spot then i put a line as you did. Really helped me alot on learning how to aim. Once i used this method a few months i then found myself looking at the lines less and less. Good informative video. 👍👍
Wow.something so simple and easy to use. Thanks.
I’m trying this out this year. With limited time to practice between work and two young kids, it’s hard to go out and practice every single night. A sight tape on the riser will work well for me
Very good advice speaking from experience
Awesome video, very informative thank you
i like the variety on this channel lol
Rios Pocket So many ideas. No focus! Thanks for watching!
I would have never thought a fortnite player would be here
Bambi: "Joke's on you, I got shot with a gun"
The more you practice, the better you become. It goes for every skill and is worth saying often.
Nice, I have lots of work to do. And arrows to shoot. 🏹 💪
"It's a beautiful morning to go shoot Bambi."
.... and subscribed.
Haha!
Me also 🏹👍🎯
If you're gonna do this, just get a sight. I personally like string walking. I will do instinctive shooting for moving targets though.
To note for a lot of people, the weight of the arrow and draw weight of the bow makes a big difference. The trajectory from a 30lb bow would be drastically different then say a 50 lb bow. So stick with one setup would be best
Nice but didn't explain how you looking at the target in ref to line of sight and sight picture
Etc. I still have no clue
Hey man, you've got a good radio voice. Should try podcasting something.
when i was little mu mom took me to a archery event at a church i couldnt pull the lowest weight bow they gave me a toy bow with normal arrows i won idk i dont do it anymore but me and my brother are naturally good at it
" *its a beautiful day to shoot bambi- i mean arrows* "
Ahhhh love the Easton game-getters.
Yes! Classic!
ok ok ok I get the point . . .
be safe
Idun Valkyrie Haha. Very witty!
Huh, i was just tired of trying this and made a sight (its super bad, but works great) i used the reference points mentioned on the vid
You mentioned, "lack of ability" and this is the number one reason some people can't shoot well. The ability to match and set up your bow is important but if you can't shoot you can't set up your bow? Now you have to try different things to obtain good shooting to find out what works for you.It is rare to find two people the same. There are little nuances each have that determines what will work for them. This takes time to figure out. Whether you use a deep hook or a shallow hook will require different spined arrows all other things being equal. This one, small and over looked difference has caused many to quit archery. There is no inaccurate bow just inaccurate shooters. The right arrow ,shot from any bow will shoot well in the hands of a true archer.
Thank you for the encouragement my friend! I am quoting your last statement. I very much appreciate hearing that right now :)
Where did you get your arrow rest? I dont like shooting off the riser shelf.
It came with the riser. I'm going to put a flipper style rest on and try that out.
This may not work for everyone. This is how I started shooting and my progress completely halted until I learned to shoot by using the arrow as a reference instead. It completely messes up your horizontal plane on your shots which is the most important. When you gap shoot off the arrow it lets you know if you're plucking the string or collapsing so you know if you hit left/right.
You hold your left arm very straight. Does the bow never snap against your elbow?
When you anchor, do you look straight down the arrow; i.e. line the bow string up with the tip of the arrow, much like using a peep sight?
I personally don’t. I line my target with a reference point on the riser
@Ladybug Adventures so you align the center of the target with the mark on your riser?
Great video
Thanks! Really appreciate it!
What is on the inside of the burlap target ????
The face is the backside of carpet and inside I cannot remember. Either carpet layers or foam. The targets were designed by a club member.
Looks so easy...
JacksWailerTV Years of practice and I still can't hit all six where I want!
Man that is so true..........You can't buy proficiency or accuracy. I shoot inexpensive Lancaster archery aluminum arrows and they are consistently accurate. Unless I have a day where I can't hit the side of a barn.
Nice shooting
As my late father use to say.
It's not the weapon, it's the person using it. Practice, practice, practice ALOT.
Very wise man.
@@LadybugAdventures
He was indeed.🙏🙏
What pound bow are you using in this video?
This was around 40-44#
@ladybug adventure how to aim long distance?
Haven't tried with this bow. Just up to 50 so far with three under. To go further then I'd go to split finger then you can get more yardage. With this smaller 17" riser the sight window is smaller than my Jagaur's 19" riser.
@@LadybugAdventures when shoot 70m i had to raise my bow hand and i can't see the target. I shoot in vast grass field and i only see sky at long distance. Really need some tips how to aim.
@@irzackihmj5259 what size of riser and poundage of limbs do you have? I can do 70 with a 19" riser and 45# limbs and carbon arrows but just barely.
Put tape on the arrows so you always use the same amount of pulling strength
worth a try!
How to grab arrows wiithout clips??
Not sure I understand.what are clips?
Is this wolf's den near Toronto?
No, York County Bowmen. Situated up near Aurora.
are you using the point of the arrow for aiming?
Not at all. Just the markings on the riser
So do you just use the marks like you would a site, ie please the mark in the centre of the target also, what would you do if your shit was too far left or too far right??
@@kingelder2 aim down the arrow for left and right (windage) and use the reference marks on the tape for up and down (elevation)
@@HuntandFish Thanks for the clarification. He never mentioned how exactly he was aiming or right/left adjustment. It takes perfect form to use this method.
nice
Thank you!
Nice shooting.
Thanks! Of course I edited out my 1 hour of crappy shooting!
Ladybug Adventures. thats why we practice so much.
I just look at the vitals and then let it RIP.
Why the " " around the word instinctive?
I feel like newer archers can be misled into thinking that instinctive means that their brain will automatically and without conscious effort, find the target. It takes so much experience to shoot without conscious aim. Really it comes down to muscle memory and ton of practice at different distances. For me, it's just a wording thing and I don't really like that term.
Imma leave lil Bambi alone.
Thumper can get it though
Very cunning.
now i am confused. I was loaned a traditional. No extra curves or fancy handles. but no one does videos on the ol timers huh? i take it that recurve is for people who want it easier. i am going old primitive i guess lol 😀
I own other bows as well and can use the same method. Any reference helps. Otherwise going 3 under and finger walking can help some people.
isnt that a recurve bow?
Traditional can be recurved.

Well if you’re gonna do that why not just mount a site on the bow
It's just a strategy that might work for some. And yes I have a video about using a sight! Yes, I understand that it goes against traditional philosophy!
Are you suggesting my crappy shooting might be my inability to shoot? Well, that's no way to get subscribers.(Enjoyed video)
Shooting a bow is like throwing a ball, one doesn't aim when throwing a ball, neither should you when shooting a bow...
Using aluminum arrows with a traditional bow just doesn't seem right. I guess I'm more of a "primitive" kind of guy.
🤔👎
😎🤟
Your bow is not traditional.
Why? Because of the little stabilizer I put on it? Because of materials? Because it's ILF? Because I have a rubber shelf? Please elaborate.
It’s a recurve.... even if it’s tricked out with a whisker biscuit and a sight, it’s still a traditional bow. Or does a bow have to be “vanilla’ for it to be traditional to you?
@Ranger Archery I have had the same issue....i believe the difficulty lies in the fact that traditional is different depending on where you are from and how far back in history you go. English longbows are not traditional to Asia for example. What i find most interesting is that many people use "traditional" to denote "hard" or "difficult", usually to explain away there lack of good shooting....
From what I have found with my limited knowledge on the subject it can be considered traditional archery as long as there is no adjustable arrow rest at least as far as traditional competition is concerned this seems to be the only difference between trad and barebow as far as the bow is concerned.
It's just a adjustable bow, chill out
Not realy helpfull
Understandable. So many ways to do the same thing. Hopefully you can find a way that works for you.
@LadybugAdventures I am trying I can hit a target bag, just not where I want on the bag.
@@omacane how long have you been shooting?
@LadybugAdventures I've been shooting compound bows for many years and just started recurve two weeks ago
Can I ask. You put marks on your bow Where are you lining up your eye with the string?
@@omacane mine is slightly on my right of the eye but really depends on your anchoring. Anchor in the same way takes a lot of time. Also the draw length won’t be consistent for a while. Some people often start with a bow that is too hard for them to draw so they struggle with consistency a little longer. Trad or recurve can take some months to figure out.
