    If you're playing situational cards with cycling anyway, the number of cards you're willing to pitch to Channeled Force goes up a fair amount, since you might want to cycle them anyway. You'd still rather cycle them on turns 1-3 if able, but it's something to keep in mind.

    There are a lot of powerful cards here to comment on but I think the two most important are Farfinder and Mysterious Egg. For Farfinder I think it is important to note if you played in DOM with Surveyor we found that in the first pack or so you actually take it more like a B-. This is because it allows you take powerful cards of more colors more aggressively then if you settle firmly into two colors it drops down to C+ in pack two then nearly D or F if your colors remain consistent in p3. If you do wind up picking up more powerful colors in non-green it stays B- C+. Just being able to take, say, a slightly off color apex in pack 3 and especially given the wedge nature of the set I think you actually take it as a B- p1 then drops off on later packs.
    Second I tho k Musterious Egg deserves a build-around grade where if you have 7-8+ good mutators it honestly seems more like a C+ and in the best aggro mutate decks that have cheaper mutators it kinda winds up in a weird spot between C+ and B- where you take it over Salk other C range cards. It just seems like a very swingy card that can wind up being super busted or unplayable.

    I really appreciate that you made this series over the course of days leading up to the set release. That made it much more manageable to go through and easier to commit to memory than Limited Resources who just sloshes every color together into massive reviews hours long. Re: the Crystals - I think it's worth noting that Raugrin (URW) is the best for 3 reasons: it's in the cycling colors; it's in the non-creature spell colors; and it's in one of the non-green wedges (along with Savai). I think this pushes it slightly above the others.

      @@Vario69 because Green has the best access to other fixing (so mana rocks for the wedges that include green are worth less as there are more options); and including this in a deck that cares about non-creature spells gives it extra value (as it can trigger such abilities) compared to similar rocks being included in decks that don't care about non-creature spells.

    I think you severely underestimate the enclave. In a long format the second card draw is invaluable as it gives you another option. I would care it to labyrinth of Skophos which was, for me at least, a beast at the theros pre release. I would first pick that just because repeatable card draw even with a condition is really strong.

    I have a tribal deck that has all creatures that earn +1/+1 counters and I am buying a playset of The Ozolith on day one, or maybe just preordering it depending on what the prices are at right now. I don't see this being very popular in Standard but my tribal deck is based entirely on 1/1's that come out early and easily and then beef up fast and an artifact that costs one mana with no activation cost that lets me save all of the counters I've racked up instead of watching them get wiped out ... that is absolutely priceless and a game changer. Before, if I lost too many of the creatures that were summoned early on, usually when playing against decks with a lot of removal spells, I usually stood no chance if I wasn't able to deal lethal damage somewhere between turn 4 and turn 6. With this card I don't have to feel tempted to throw in bigger creatures with higher mana costs that would result in weaker odds of having an opening hand with a strong first three turns.

    (Red/Green Hybrid)
    - Lore Drakkis: "Next up it's Lore Drakkis who for one generic, a Blue, and a GREEN..."
    (Blue and a Red)
    - Skycat Soverign: "I think this is first pickable despite being MONOCOLORED..."
    (It's Azorius colored, not mono.)

    Super surprised on your D grade to Titans nest. You talked about the ability to load your graveyard, but I think that’s only half of that ability’s benefit. Late game it’s fantastic to strip lands and weak creatures off the top of your deck as it’s essentially a free surveil at the beginning of each upkeep. As for the second ability, nothing wrong with some ramp, and I think that if it hits the battlefield by turn 6, that ramping will still be very relevant for at least a few turns, especially if you have a few big creatures (which green has a lot of). No bomb or anything and you prob don’t first pick it unless the pack is v weak bc of the color restriction, but I’d say C+ is pretty fair and could go higher with a lot of graveyard payoffs (which is very reasonable in those colors).

    Who else thinks lore drakkis would be a bit more reasonable if it had haste? Adding haste would give both the creature and the mutate a bit more utility without being as efficient as evasion.

    • @NizzahonMagic
      @NizzahonMagic  4 роки тому

      If you mutate it on to a creature that was already in play since the previous turn, Haste wouldn't do anything. But yeah, it has a cheap enough Mutate cost that that would make it moderately better.

    O K A Y, it seems like pulling off Lurrus’ companion cost is hard, but for me it was actually super do-able. There’s a lot of good removal in white and black, so getting something like a Dead Weight lock as early as turn 4 is pretty devastating. And in terms of permanents, there’s a ton of good cards that are made even better with Lurrus (like garrison cat) because you can just cast it over and over, so it ends up being super aggressive. The strategy really is to just dump your hand, and then do it over and over again. I even MILLED someone out with a draft deck having Lurrus as a companion, just because having graveyard recursion of token makers like general’s enforcer is so powerful. The way I won usually revolved around Lurrus too, because I ended up being so much more aggressive due to its lifelink. Give Lurrus evasion and/or some extra power, get down cheap recurable token makers and tappers, and fill it in with a bunch of removal, recursion, and protection spells and you’re good! Even if Lurrus is exiled early, the strategy should have enough early fodder to push through for a 3-0.

It got a good response last time so I thought I'd do it again. There are so many downsides. The fact that you discard your had at the end of the turn means that if your top deck is a land, you're gonna skip a turn. Also, there's a real possibility of getting milled by its effect, as you could be drawing 5 cards a turn.
    I do agree that in an aggro deck that needs reach, this would be wonderful, but I don't think the average deck will use it to its full potential.

    Rating the gain lands and the trilands the same seems highly suspect.

    • @NizzahonMagic
      @NizzahonMagic  4 роки тому

      Well, I made it clear the trilands are better. They are C++ basically. I still don't think you want to first pick them, so I can't really go higher.

      I agree you don't want to first pick them, but you could have probably said that they would be B- or even B if you were already in all three colors, or whatever.

    Even with something that's not beefy, Back for More can be just as effective with something with deathtouch. Something this set has plenty of.
    Have to disagree with your wanting of more abilities on certain mutate creatures. Kind of defeats the purpose of mutate and especially when the set gives you plenty of targets to gain abilities and cards that cycle to grant abilities. Can't have EVERYTHING on one card.

    I disagree with the assessment of the multicolored lands. I think the green ones should all be a little lower than the rest. Maybe a C.

    Is it just me, or does Mutate feel a lot like bestow? You're basically turning the creature into an "enchant", you have the risk of the 2 for 1, the only real difference I see is the potential for multiple triggers and that it isn't literally an enchantment

    • @NizzahonMagic
      @NizzahonMagic  4 роки тому +1

      There are similarities to be sure, but the interesting customizable nature of Mutate makes it considerable different, since you get to make decisions on which textboxes you want/which stats you want, instead of just Bestow doing what it does. Also, Bestow is better against 2-for-1s mostly, since if the Bestow creature resolves, it will still come to the battlefield after the creature it was Bestowing dies.

      @Zamerux 4 роки тому

      @@NizzahonMagic Thanks for the reply! I think that that's true about the customizability, but wouldn't you always want to pick the one with the highest base stats then, since it'll have all of the abilities of the ones above/below it? And I didn't know that last bit about Bestow, thanks!

    16:00 Even if it costs hybrid mana, you must have all the in the colors in the respective symbols. So you can't use this in a Simic (Blue/Green) or an Izzet (Blue/Red) deck. magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/word-commander-2011-06-20 unless this is the only format the rule applies in. Love the video though keep up the good work!

    Yorion, Sky Nomad. You said "Even though you're never going to companion with this." Challenge accepted! Not to be facetious, but I could see a world where I first pick this card and find myself in UW + another color. Because I'm just drafting the best card in my colors in each pack, maybe at the end of the draft I have 36 playables/mediocre cards and I throw in 24 lands and call it a day. The argument at this point is whether or not running a more consistent 40 card deck would be better. I think always having Yorion in your opening "hand" and starting the game with an extra card is worth it .

    • @eduardobarros3986

      I don't think a 5-mana flyer and a blink effect are enough to justify playing a less consistent deck.
