Thanks my brother for this great video. I increase about 10 to 15 words per year any typing about 20 min per day It's it normal or my attention/ concentration is not okay.
"40 wpm too slow"
me after typing 20wpm - holyshit that was fast
😂
😂
how much time do you spend to write that?
@@itz_realWeebOnOsu I probably spent about 69 minutes to write all of that
same mine averages around 20-35 WPM
The "one word as one stroke" method is actually super useful! Went from an average of 110 to 130 wpm in an hour or so by applying that!
Thanks a lot!
Very glad that this could help!
It makes so much sense.
just in my first try by using this i went from 50 to 60 really helpful!

I was a bit stuck in the 70-80 range so this videos gave me some cool tips to try, thanks!
"looking at next words while typing previous one" this really helps me, thanks alot!
Dude your points are concise and on point! It really helped me get from 50 to 60 WPM to 70WPM and above. Especially the point where you see the next word ahead of time. Thanks a ton.😘
I don't know if I was already good at typing but I recently joined Type racer and scored like 112 wpm on average (maybe because I do write a lot of stuffs in my google docs as I am planning to publish a book lol)
And within a day or two, I increased my average WPM to 125. It's effective!
@@navoneel good luck with your book, keep it going!

Thank you so much for ctrl plus backspace shortcut. It really helps me out!!
The thinking of words as letters is something I actually use every day. Whenever I am gaming, there are common words that I come across every day in gaming language that I can literally just type words in an instant because they are almost like one big keystroke to me. Interesting to know that the same method I use is something else many use as well, great video.
I was a touch typist at >50 wpm until I had an illness that affected fine motor skills. My previous typing speed is not speed of flight but it is important in my job. I really had to relearn everything from scratch. I want to come back a much better typist in terms of speed and accuracy. I was searching for tips to speed up my typing that's how I came across your video. Thank you for your tips!

Thank You for the tips and website suggestions!
Thanks a lot, writing this in order to get back in a while and tell the results, good luck y’all!
Bro I thought I typed fast but I can barely type beyond 70 WPM. This video really opened my eyes that there is so much to improve in my typing skills, thank you!
Been practicing on 10fastfingers for about 30 mins per day for more than a year now. From not knowing how to type at all to 30 took me 3 months and from 30 to current 50 took me a year.
Honestly it's sometimes disheartening to know that all you managed to achieve after your effort is to reach the starting line for most people. But that's life I suppose. Sometimes you just suck that bad lol
That said, for me personally the biggest gain was discipline. Atleast now, I'm pretty sure i'll hit 100.
Sure it would take me way longer. Maybe 5 years but it'll definitely happen in time.
Just earning that trust on yourself, I feel is well worth the effort on your weakest links. And the best part is this confidence carries over to everything else you suck at.
In the same time frame, I was working on running as well. Which I apparently was naturally good at as I managed to progress to half marathons within 3 months.
And while that also boosted my discipline, and thereby confidence. It didn't feel nearly as life altering as typing.
To begin with, I found the confidence to attempt typing thanks to a similar experince from learning pullups from scratch. An exercise I thought was impossible for me for 20+ years.
Well my point is, if you want to do something, just start and consistently keep at it.
Talent, Support and Resources gets you therer faster, but Discipline will get you there regardless of your starting point and circumstances.
the think is that consistency is not the key for everything, you can be as consistent as you want to but the less time you give to something the most you gotta wait in order to reach a goal, if you really want to reach those 100wpm in 3-4 months (as much) you gotta start typing hours and hours a day, and go through a lot of websites, have a lot of competitions with ppl you know has your lvl, and to summary, be as competitive as you can, it doesn't matter what it is, as long as you're competitive enough you gon to achieve that goal asap
@@ImTryingitforreal That is definitely great if you want quick results and you have the appropriate mindset and required time to do it.
In my case, I tend to burn myself out fast If I do things for hours per day. I will go crazy for a few months and quit.
After 20+ years of inconsistency I learned to space myself out as uniformly as possible.
Break a big goal into small daily steps that doesn't overwhelm me, esp. in the first 6 months when my interest/passion has not cemented yet.
That's the only way that has worked for me. Infact beyond my wildest expectations at that.
More importantly, tbh my goal is more of cultivating habits that will keep driving me towards excellence at certain skills throughout my life.
So while 100wpm is important, being able to keep typing and improving for the nest 20 years+ is way more important to me.
What an inspiration. Last year I started practicing my typing and get 30-40 with typingtest. And now just came back and continue. It was really hard and stressful. But I hope I’ll get 40-50 by the end of this year
very good tips. focusing on the next word really helped.
this is not an exaggeration, the "look at the next word" and "each word is one stroke" tip literally took me from 100 wpm to 130 wpm in one attempt
Thanks so much!
I think the thing that holds me back the most, is consistency, At least on typing sites. When I'm typing down my own thoughts, I'm prone to make less mistakes, but on typing sites, I focus on going too fast for my own good. Also doesn't help that I've been transitioning from laptop keyboard to mechanical keyboard. Apparently I have trouble fully pressing the space bar. Maybe I should get a tactile switch for it.
My personal tip: Try typing in Dutch instead of English. It makes you concentrate better. After 10 mins of practice, switch back to English(or whichever you use) and see your speed drastically increase for few rounds. It gives you confidence and you get more comfortable at higher speed with good accuracy.
Never heard about it! Because I would think you are training mostly to write in English, so the muscle memory is specific to English words and not other languages.
@@mrchops yes that's the point. But sometimes when we make mistakes, we develop wrong muscle memory and keep making the same mistakes. So in order to get rid of that for time being, I used to type in Dutch and switch back to English. It improved by speed from 75 wpm to 90-100 wpm in 3 weeks.
I hate typing in dutch because there are so many double letters like oo and ee
@@Rayer24 bro that's exactly the point. Make yourself struggle and when you come back to easier stuffs, it feels more easier. Are you dumb?
I did this, too. Switching languages is kinda painful, but it helps you build up your per-key muscle memory, which is the one you use for words that you aren't already used to typing as a stroke. It makes you a more versatile writer and allows you to type faster across more complicated or less common words. It's like practicing scales with a musical instrument, instead of only practicing a specific song over and over.
Thanks for these tips! Just by learning which fingers to use, I increased my typing speed almost 10wpm. Like others have said, the word-stroke idea is genius. That and using a tactile keyboard so that I don't have to depress all the way are big ones! Cheers :)
Thanks for a wholesome and informational clip 👏🏼👏🏼
bro i got 8 WPM

Stop playing Fortnite
Same 😭
@@TheProlificalI can type sometimes a lot faster, and Im on mobile.
Trying to look ahead while typing is a really helpful tipp. What I also find to be useful in the 50-100 wpm range is focusing on accuracy. I'm currently stuck at around 80 wpm mainly because I keep making mistakes while typing. Having to correct stuff can really slow you down. Without mistakes i can easily get in the high 90 to 100 wpm range. So, if you are struggling with accuracy I think it's important to try and slow down a bit. As far as I understand it bad accuracy comes from either stumbling other certain letter combinations you aren't used to yet (for that you can either practice ngrams or just keep typing), or it comes from bad muscle memory. In the case of bad muscle you basically need to fix it by making sure you write words accurately but you can't focus on accuracy if you are constantly trying to be as fast as possible.
I takes me a month from 30 wpm (two fingers) to 50 (10 fingers) and it takes another month to get 60 wpm but I've stuck at 60 for almost half year now, i just sometimes manage to get 70 but it's not consistent. Any tips for me?
Bro you are right I applied this tip and literally it helps me a lot in increasing my typing speeds.😊😊
@@muhammadthoif2154 Honestly I don't know if I can give you any useful advice but here is what I think.
First of all, your progress is pretty amazing and it's natural for it to slow down especially as you get faster. Second of all your speed doesn't increase consistently. I find it's more like going up a staircase. After having learned the basics you get stuck at around one speed, and then suddenly one day you break through it and improve really quickly for a short time.
Maybe before you try anything else, check whether you do anything wrong. Do you keep your hands at a weird angle that makes it more difficult to hit certain keys consistently? Do you write one key with the wrong finger? Do you know where the keys are without looking? All of these are things that I've dealt with, especially that second one. I recently found out that I was writing the "B" key with the wrong hand and fixing that helped my accuracy a lot.
Also I would really recommend to not focus too much on speed but, as I mentioned in my comment, on accuracy. Imo if you get too caught up in writing fast and improving you end up stressing yourself out make mistakes you usually wouldn't be making. Your goal is it to learn to write words accurately, speed will come naturally is you write them more often.
Finally, I don't know what you are using to practice but I would highly suggest to use real texts in your target language. I find that if you write actual real words your muscle memory kind of starts remembering the movements you need to make for the entire words instead of having to go through each individual button press. You basically get faster by learning common letter combinations. Also it's really fun to copy books you want to read instead of mindlessly writing whatever weird words keybr comes up with. Either way, good luck! You are doing great!
@@Salman-kc6gr Glad it helped 😄
@@valala2987 thanks a lot, I'll try your advice. Hopefully I'll improve my target for now is 80wpm.

The one thing that helped me type faster and better was switching to Dvorak some time ago. But I still need to work on my accuracy a bit, esp. because my right hand wants to go all over the right side of the keyboard, while my left hand barely moves as it should be. Your tips will help me work on this, thank you!
Edit: oh, and a good keyboard also works wonders. I have the UHKv2, but that Akko Retro looks really nice too!
I type 8 hours a day so I needed to switch to Dvorak because a muscle in my left arm was bothering me. So glad I made the switch. It only took me 1 month to retrain muscle memory.
@@AdamsTaiwan Lol, took me three months (25 years ago) to switch to Dvorak. But it went a lot faster when I went 100% dvorak. Struggled a lot because I ran into some IRC feuds, and wanted to type faster and switched back to qwerty. Once I stepped over the time wasting feuds, and went 100% dvorak, I got it done in a month. And after that, for some odd reason, qwerty and dvorak muscle memory remains, as seperate "entities", so I can do both whenever/wherever :D And yeah, Dvorak is awesome for muscle fatigue. And tendon straining.
@@caveymon I wish I would have retained memory for when I need to do some quick Qwerty typing.
I love your edit

I have been typing without looking at the keyboard for like 2 years, but now I wanted to start learning to type faster just for fun. You can do it! I started typing at around april 2021 my first week i was reaching 30 wpm, after a month it turned into 50 then 3 months later 100 wpm, as of now my highest is 140 wpm and my average is around 110 to 120. Not focusing too much on making myself faster
I remember being super excited reaching 60 WPM... I type 105-110 nowadays 🙂

I think I was really lucky to start touch typing with all 10 fingers. Before that I used to type at around 35wpm. Now I do at around 80wpm.
I feel like I've reached a plateau here, and I make a lot of mistakes averaging to 96% accuracy on typeracer. I'm currently working on improving my accuracy rather than speed, because sometimes with accuracy of >99%, takes me to 100+ wpm. "Focusing on accuracy rather than speed should be the main goal to increase typing speed." Learnt that the hard way.
Also I think changing the keyboard will help me. Currently using a cheap $8 keyboard from amazon.

It is growing day by day but I still want to have some tips in mind which will help me increase it more quickly .
The tips you gave are completely true because when sometimes I type watching the word that I want to type after current word the resultant speed is much more greater than my current speed!!
This is a very good video with real usable techniques!
This really helped me a lot lol . I recently just changed to word processing subject and my teacher told me to at least do 15 wpm since I was new , so I practiced every day hitting 50 wpm . my own opinion is the 10finger method is good but for me i only use 5finger method(2left 3 right) and my average is 60wpm,, so partly your own preference is good especially when your fingers are uncoordinated like me but also the best method can help you it just depends on how you really wanna improve at typing.. Great video! you kept it simple but understandable

@@finlayhutchinson7370 he isn't wrong though, i you don't necessarily need 10 fingers for typing that fast

@@andrewzhang8512 He is wrong tho. At first everyone's fingers are uncoordinated. You develop coordination through practice. Using 2-3 fingers less may be a preference, but not using half of them is inefficient.

Hey guys I am back with an update
Almost 1.5 months in. I did not stick to daily practice like in my first week as I was getting frustrated but I did start to touch type slowly here and there where ever I could. I am looking forward to improve myself to 70wpm as my end goal.
Thanks alot for the advices :D
At this level it's all about good finger position. Instead of those websites (which might feel frustrating in the beginning), you can make it more fun maybe when you type to write messages to people? Or comments on youtube, emails etc.
improvements depend from situation to situation, but keep typing! you're on a good path :)

idk how ya'll have actually contemplated so much about typing. I've just been typing since a long time and I average 160, most of these tricks you naturally develop over time subconsciously and thats the best way of so. For now don't focus too much on getting 'stuck' at certain WPMs or feeling disappointed just enjoy typing and it'll come naturally
How do you type words with repeating letters in one stroke easily? Example: egg-noodles. It kinda knocks me off the flow and I mess up the letters afterwards. This sounds like a genuinely dumb question but when I try it out it doesn't feel the same at all compared to a word without repeating letters.
I feel you, totally know what you mean with "ruining the flow" with the double letters and I can't really tell much, I kind of vibrate my hand? To click the letter twice.
Maybe someone more experienced can tell us more about this
Something that Taran once said about typing really stuck with me and it's to try to slow down on the harder words
It'll come with practice but this way you're less likely to make mistakes and ruin your flow
@@mrchops yeah it's the same thing for me i just vibrate my finger just give it time and you will get used to it there is nothing much that can be done just give it time

I was absolutely elated I hit 100WPM for the first time. People that can already type fast (above 100WPM) with little effort simply can't appreciate how invaluable this skill is.
If you're a slow typist and are on the fence about whether or not practice even pays off... I encourage you to try doing so. Approach learning as a total beginner and prioritize accuracy over speed when starting out, because good technique will naturally increase with speed when you become more proficient and drilled the muscle memory. I already saw great results just doing 10-15 minutes daily over six months.
was stuck within 80-90, this helped alot
i like how i have been using all of these tips mentioned in the video without even knowing it, and my avg wpm is 115 and highest was 145
I use my left hand for most keypresses on the left side, and in my right hand I only use my index finger and my pinky (for backspace and enter) for the rest of the keys.
Great editing
Thanks 👍🏽
underrated channel :)
I began to practice typing because of this video. I'm around 70wpm so far
thank you very much
1:09 lol this is interesting I learned how to type before I started playing online pc games (I was console gamer prior) so tbh I didn't know what it was like to type into game chat with out knowing how to type.
I'm a programmer looking to improve, thanks a ton
i used to write with 4/fingers (gamer layout)
I started practicing with 10 fingers in their correct position, which at first felt terrible, but i kept doing it everyday, now one year later i went from 20wpm (with 10 finger) to 140wpm, just typing and coding everyday for a little bit of time
Im a newbie and this help me a lot
