    I'm used to using buzzy chainsaws.. I would call my Himalayan non-buzzy.. a no ABS BS4 2018.. I'm 6-2 210, I find it to be a comfortable neutral riding position. Reviewers are always yammerin about the brakes.. Maybe compared to a sport bike they're inadequate, I've had no issues, mine work fine. Apart from being persnickity on occasion, just like people, it's user friendly with the heart of a champ. So far so good.

    The speed of 65 is faster than we ever ride in most areas of India so it was probably not a concern for the vibrations.

      There seems to be anecdotal evidence that these engines smooth out after the first few thousand miles. It does have a counterbalance shaft to reduce vibrations. I hope to find out for myself someday. Of course I'm also intrigued by the prospect of the new RE Meteor 350 coming available in the USA.

    I agree Rob, the Himalayan is the best deal. You get a all around capable bike with a windscreen, fork gaiters, metal skid plate, nice flat seat for the rider and the passenger(i hate the ones that slope downward in the front) and a luggage rack. I have a 2021 Himalayan. I have 25,000 km on mine now. You will find that the cold blooded nature and the vibration will fade with time. I have the hard panniers, the hand guards, the crash bars, driving lights, LED tail light, upgraded pegs, and master cylinder cover. I’m 5’4” and the bike fits me pretty well. My only complaint is the motor output. On gravel it is fine, but on pavement it is lacking. I have done many 800 km (500 mile) days on this bike and on the highway it can be a little slow.

    • @roaddirttv
      @roaddirttv  5 місяців тому

      That was our one complaint too- displacement and power output. We’re curious about the new Himi 452. We were hoping for a least a 500 or maybe even a 650 twin (since they already have that versatile mill), but the new 452 looks promising.
      Agreed, the 411 is otherwise a great bike. Recently spent some time with the Scram 411, and loved it.

    Hmm, my 2018 Himalayan is pretty smooth at 5000 RPM; considering it is a single cylinder. I have no complaints about the kickstand either. The owner's manual describes how to cold-start the bike, but mine isn't "cold blooded". I have also found 3 different manufacturers of tank bags for it.

    I just got back from a 2400+ mile 6 day trip... sat on one of these in Durango, Co at the HD shop there. They also had the Pan America... I'm a Harley guy...on my 7th HD... but I'd take the RE Himalayan over the Pan America 10x out of 10. I've done plenty of dual sport/ dirt biking too...picking up giant ADV bikes (loaded with stuff too) is no fun. The Himalayan styling is awesome and it felt ok to sit on... even with me being 6'3".
    I ride the biggest HD touring bike they make ....I add ape hangers to all my Harleys... there is no reason I like the Himalayan... but I do.

    I've had my Himalayan for about 15 months and love it. Up to 7000 miles now. I have 2 other bikes and a car, so that's why the milage is still quite low.
    The 'choke' is, in fact, a fast idle lever, which I never use. I think it's supposed to be effective at high altitudes which, in the Uk, we don't really have.
    I agree that the screw threads on the tank guards are a bit pointless if RE don't make anything to fit into them. I think the GIVI bags that you mentioned strap on - so still no use for them there. I know some people have bought some Ammo boxes, which you can buy on eBay and rigged up some metal brackets and fitted those onto the tank guards using those fixed, threaded holes. You'd think RE would have a whole catalogue of things you could screw into them.

The RE is a beauty but it isn't a real all rounder, another 10-15 bhp out of that engine and it would be perfect. Sounds like they have the build quality and reliability down pat for a world bike. a couple of other things, somebody must have designed it to be the easiest bike on earth to clean, I have large hands an can reach almost everywhere on the bike. DIpped, the headlight beam is very wide but bright, Full beam is fantastic. I hope the latest updates have improved the steering head bearing as a slight instability causing a shimmy above 60mph. It is not alarming just annoying. Road handling is sensitive to tyre pressure. When too low you will run wide and it ruins the otherwise brilliant handling. For clarification mine is the carb equivalent of the bs4 i.e. quality improved. It is so cool to be able to putt along in 5th at 30mph at 2500rpm . like an old brit single but better.

    The buzzing pretty much stops and definitely gets completely nominal by a few thousand miles.Taking the flyweights off the camshaft stops most of the camshaft noise which is definitely excessive.By the time the bike breaks in it really doesn't need the decompression from the camshaft flyweights anyhow. Absolutely a fantastic bike .Any fault can be easier and cheaper dealt with than any bike nearing its capabilities. Thrre is a youtube video of a complete engine teardown in a hour. Just like the 650 you just unbolt for and aft on the frame joints and drop the whole engine and tranny leaving the bike standing there.Lol everything everywhere is utmost for simplistic mechanical maintainance for a reason.

      Yeah, the dealer network is still pretty sparse across the US right now, although they are adding quite a few each year. Good review, Rob. Other changes for 2021 include a lower setting rear luggage rack, a more forward placement of the tank guards, and the "Tripper" Navigation aid. I love my 2020 BS-4. The engine has really broken in nicely, and with 3,600 miles now on my odometer, I can easily maintain 65-70 mph,with 30 pounds of gear inside tank bag, front engine guard bags, and 8 liter roll top bag on rear rack. I am 5 ft. 10 inches, and 225 lbs. My only issues have been a couple of over torqued (or cross threaded bolts" on bash plate, and a factory battery that demands the purchase of a battery tender device, as even five days of no riding will prevent reliable starting due to parasitic drain on battery.

      @roaddirttv  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Chuck,
      These bikes are built simple but tough, made for on and off road conditions over long hauls. With a 4 gallon tank, about 428 lbs wet, you're going to ride well into the 200 mile range between refills. Comfortable, upright riding position, so long rides are no problem, at least for me- 57 yrs old, 5'8", about 155 lbs. A bit underpowered over the road, but hey, its a 411cc single.

    The on-screen text from 0:08 through 0:14 would be better suited being placed at 0:20 through 0:26. The text should describe the motorcycle being shown at the time. Nice review.

      Never fully isolated it in the time we had the Himi. Somewhere up in the dash and fairing.

    IMO
    Best Value Semi-Dirt bike, yes almost certainly.
    Best Value bike, well the Royal Enfield INT (Interceptor) 650 is probably a bit better.

      The INT650 powerplant in the Himi frame- now that, would be super cool.

    Hard to come to any final consensus on this bike from the plethora of reviews and articles I've read for, and against.For the price,I'd be willing to roll the dice.

    Mine has been disappointing. 650 miles so far on my 2021 Himalayan. Stalling has been the biggest problem. Six times yesterday while stuck in traffic. The compass is useless. Hard to start even in our mild Florida winters. It is so hard to start, I can’t believe it is actually fuel injected. Cheap switchgear compared with my 2014 Suzuki. I don’t recommend it.

      Wow, I’m sorry to hear this, Jeffrey. We honestly found the compass useless as well, but never had a stalling problem in the month/half we had one. Started and ran like a champ for the 450 miles or so we logged on it. Hopefully your local RE dealer can diagnose what’s up with it, and get you back in the road with no hiccups.

    Its a great bike for the money, A and B roads, dirt tracks great commuter but don't ride it on highways or Motorways its slow.

    • @roaddirttv
      @roaddirttv  3 роки тому

      We were able to push the bike comfortably around 60-65 mph out on open, multi-lane roads, so it’s not a terrible highway bike, just need to stay clear of the more speedy lanes, for sure.
