- Step-by-Step Tutorial on how to build a cattle panel trellis for your garden. We show you how to build this durable, attractive and SIMPLE trellis for you to grow vertically in your backyard garden. This trellis is very customizable. We used scrap cattle panel from our previous projects & purchased a few 2x2x96" pieces of Redwood for the supports. We used a router table to route the wood for the cattle panel to sit in, but one could substitute and use a table saw for a similar outcome. When determining the size of your horizontal support; subtract a 1/2" from the width of the cattle panel in order to account for the routered grooves.
If you're new to using cattle panels, they are typically purchased in large sheets. We cut them down using an angle grinder or bolt cutters.. Check out our "full-size" & more permanent garden trellis build video to see how we cut them -- • DIY CATTLE PANEL GARDE...

Our Liberty House is a gardening lifestyle channel. Lucas & Beth live in Zone 9b, Sacramento, CA, (with their dog, Liberty!) and garden in 6 raised beds in our backyard garden. Together, we garden year-round and share what we are growing and what we are learning along the way. Our gardening strategy is to create a garden full of diversity. We intermix vegetables, flowers, and herbs to create an ecosystem where beneficial insects thrive. We avoid all pesticides and instead plant things that will take care of pests for us. We compost and try to live a sustainable life where we can 'eat what we grow' from our backyard garden. Thanks for joining us on our journey!

Nice looking trellis!
Thanks April!
Cool Trellis.. I like it..
Thank you! Glad you liked it. We love cattle panel if you couldn’t tell
Looks great! I made a similar one using remesh (instead of cattle panel), and 8’ redwood 2x2’s. It was pretty easy to make, no miter cuts just L brackets on the back corners, I found directions on Homestead and Chill. I’m thinking about making more after seeing your video 🤗
Nice! Homestead and Chill is great and the remesh trellis are so straight forward and functional. The cattle panel is a little heftier but generally same outcome. Thanks for watching!
Love this smaller trellis with 2 x 2. Perfect for someone who doesn't have a lot of strength, and who has to work alone. Thanks for the demonstration!
Thanks for the comment! Definitely a lot easier to make and so versatile to move around
Will cattle panels fit into precut trellis wood?
The cattle panel is about 1/2” thick so depends on how wide the precut trellis trench is
Having trouble finding someone who will ship cattle panels. Did you pick yours up?
We did, we got them from Tractor Supply
