A year ago this month I had a CT scan which showed I had a severe fatty liver and that is when I decided to to keto. In a couple of months I lost 40 of the 50 pounds I could lose which included my visceral belly fat. I have another CT scan in a few weeks and hope to find that my severe fatty liver is gone or at least greatly diminished.
Totally agree with you 👍. I add intermittent fasting and walking. It gave best result ever. All the best and good health. Yes it's reversible 100%. Thanks Doctor 😊🙏
@@omaralbizreh5471 I've done IF for many months now and do walk more in the winter but now I usually ride my bike 20 miles a day. I'll know in 3 weeks if my severe fatty liver is gone.
Thanks! I was told my fibrosis reversed per a couple of different fibroscans. I was told I had fatty liver hepatitis with the fibrosis. After the second check about 6 months later, the doctor kind of shook his head and said it’s not supposed to reverse but to keep up my low carb-keto eating.
Thank you, Dr Westman. Here’s a comment on this video from the down-under , Australia. I learn so much from your videos and use that knowledge in my counselling and pastoral care of people of all ages suffering from these medical conditions. The great knowledge you share in these videos had enabled me to offer much more than a listening ear or/and a shoulder for people suffering from these various conditions to share with and cry on. I now share what I have learned from you - and continue to learn from your weekly episodes- with these people, and I am happy to tell you that I have been able to counsel many people to explore and seek lifestyles, diet and medical help along the lines you teach and recommend. So far, 32 people have been greatly helped (obesity, HbA1cs, lipid profiles, fatty liver conditions and related medical conditions positively improved). Most importantly, all of these people who were heading south medically had been de-medicated, and their health improved and/or restored. ☺️🙌🏻. I, thank you!
Another fantastic video! I was told for years that I had a fatty liver. Since being on your program, it’s gone! & that’s just ONE out of many things that has changed for me. I wish people would just listen & believe in the science that backs your words! Thanks for all you do Doc and thanks Glen 😊
My understanding is that it is the fructose, mainly from sugar, that causes fatty liver disease because the liver is the only place fructose can be metabolized.
Partial explanation: I think that in the past portions were smaller and people were not as sedentary. The carbs and sugars we ate many decades ago were used as energy before they could be stored as fat. My two cents🪙🪙
My understanding is the amount of readily available processed foods- many have wheat , corn , sugar, added . People today seem to eat more today because there’s so much more available to grab out of the pantry or fridge - if yiu need to make your food I’m sure you also eat less . I sure do ..we et so many more carb and sugary foods today and are encouraged to eat low fat everything but when they take out the fat they lose taste and add sugar - we’ve been told to eat - less fat eg butter , lard and replace with synthetic margarine . I could go on. Because the “fat causes heat disease” myth , people end up replacing the good foods with poor high carb , added sugar substitutes .
I have NADLD, it is due to years high triglycerides. Try to lower your liver enzymes first and maintain it will no sugar, no carb, less food intake in general. Intermittent fasting helps too. I take milk thistle and a ton of anti inflammatory foods. No more breads, oatmeal, anything that is simple even complex carbs. I replaced them with high protein, like chicken, fish, and lean meats. Your snack should be like legumes nuts. I even cut out fruits that have high sugar level and replace them with sour /sweet fruits like berries, grapefruit, etc. The fat on our blood (triglycerides) is made out of the unused carbs. And they circulate in the blood and deposited in the liver.
Non Alcoholic Fatty liver is the disease that is a root of a lot of other chronic diseases and most doctors don't pay attention to it. If you look up N.A.F.L.in the main stream, they claim to not know how you get it or that you can cure it. My thinking is that they would be excited if a drug could fix the fatty liver.
What I would like to know is if it is still ok to cook with wine? One of my fav recipes is pork chops in wine sauce. It calls for 1 cup of Chianti. It is cooked and reduced. Is that ok for someone with fatty liver doing keto?
I’m in the same boat and excessive fat from a Keto diet will not help. Indeed it just inflames the liver. The only real way of getting your liver clean is to go on a carnivore diet with ‘low’ amounts of animal fat.
@@lindaperkins2669 when I say excess fat I mean added fats such as olive & avocado oils, butter, ghee etc. They will ultimately inflame the liver as an overload.

So glad you find them helpful 😊
Mine was almost to the point of no return and definitely had scar tissue etc... Now I'm sure even that has at least partially reversed.

Thank you so much for this video. It is very encouraging. Dr Westman is the best.
Excellent advice right here. 👍
TFS this very important information with us all.
Take care too everybody. ♥️🙂🐶
The question I have is how long does it take to reverse this disease?
So the question is why not a problem in the past?

The alcohol cooks out. It won’t affect your liver.

Can you tell if you have it without a doctor doing test?
Have been low carb for a year. NAFLD is getting worse. Will going zero carb help me? I'm running out of ideas. 😰
