Friday night, legs up and with a very soft Glengoyne 12 year old; this was a very pleasant review to watch! I actually set the speed to 0,75x because I wasn’t in a hurry. Great job!
That sounds like a great way to cruise into the weekend! Thank you so much! Cheers
@@JonathanTReviews The hint was the fact that you're talking too fast!
Great review, I just picked one up for $925 USD grand total. I had been hunting for a steel bezel watch for a while and settled on this guy. Shipping in from Hong Kong, should be here in a week or two, can’t wait.
Thank you! Congrats on a great score!!! That's an excellent price and I think you'll really like the watch. Cheers
Great review! Thorough and covered all the things I was wondering about.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the support and am glad I could help! Cheers
Just got mine a week ago. Running about -7 spd. Fantastic watch. But I did have to go to a couple shops to find one with a perfectly aligned bezel
Glad you're liking it too! That's a bummer to read they're having bezel alignment struggles with this one too. Thanks for watching and the feedback. Cheers
I have one-- Uptick Watches had a great video on this, love the intro and the "Steelmaster" name! nice watch-- one of my favs!
Awesome! Thanks for watching. Cheers
Great review, love this piece and am looking to add it in the near future.
Thank you very much! It is a great looking and well done piece. Cheers
Incredible detailed review!
Thank you very much!
Nice review!
Really beautiful watch but disappointed that the bracelet end links do not appear to fit the case that well? Have the same movement in my Sumo; great power reserve but accuracy is just fair. This watch comes with a much nicer band than the Sumo’s.
Thank you very much! It's been a while but I don't recall noticing an end link fitment issue. It may just be the way it presents on camera but I can't honestly remember well enough to confirm. Cheers
My 6r35 on spb143j1 gives 1+ per day if worn daily and siting on table on weekends(flat). I will place it crown down position on weekend it’s seems to run slower with crown down position.
That's excellent regulation! Thanks for the feedback and watching. Cheers
That little marker at 3 o'clock is required by the new standard to be a certified dive watch.
Cool to know. Thanks for sharing! Cheers
Very nice watch! Had the green one and, sadly, sold it...
Hopefully you find a good deal on another one. Cheers
Excellent review mate. What's your wrist size?
Thank you! It's approximately 6.5". Cheers
why they stopped making watches with a day indicator :( when i wear a watch i wanna know what day is today ffs
You're in luck, I'll be publishing a review this week of the Nodus Sector Pilot V2. It features one of my all-time favorite incorporations of a day/date complication. Cheers
@@JonathanTReviews i just googled this watch and holy f, it looks amazing 😮
Looks don't deceive! I have an unboxing video already available, if you want a preview. The full review will cover it in depth though. Cheers
Nice review, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I wonder if it's possible to swap out the bezel on my SBDC059 for the SPB bezel?
Sorry I can't help with that one. It's a great looking bezel though if you're able to make the swap. Cheers
Think I'm going to have to get this one.
It's a cool watch. I hope you enjoy it! Cheers
I just purchased one of these used and swear it has a blue dial. Sometimes it looks black, but under bright light has blueish tone. Wonder if someone swapped it? It’s great regardless. Thanks for the review, happy I picked mine up for $100
Hmm, that is an interesting one. I don't remember any noticeable blue hues. I wonder if it's the AR coating, which can add a blue tint. That's an amazing deal! Congrats!
If you picked yours up for 100$, it may be a Seiko Mod. someone that purchased a dial, hands and similar case and built a custom version. So it looks really similar, but the dial may be slightly different in your case.
To give a bit of perspective on that, this watch has an MSRP of 1k+, probably more than 500$ on the used market.
Love this watch man! Whats your wrist size for reference?
Glad you like it! My wrist is approximately 6.5". Cheers
Did I miss you mention your wrist size?
Honestly, not sure, it's been a while. Either way, my wrist is 6.5". Cheers
I love spb143
It's a nicely done watch. Cheers
But will the bezel numbers fade away fast.........like on a rolex explorer?
I unfortunately don't have that one anymore and honestly can't recall if the bezel numbers maintained legibility. Cheers
if its like my gen 1 monster the bezel numbers are actually stickers so they dont fade.
11:26 you mean a lot more of what we would expect in a much more EXPENSIVE watch?
It's not quite to the polishing level of Grand Seiko but definitely well executed. Cheers
Torn between this and the 101
You can't go wrong with either. It may help to think about which would better fill holes in your collection. Personally, I'd lean SteelMaster for the overall look. Cheers
Yeah, that ain't zaratsu polishing. It is plain to see in the video at 1440p. Still , this is a very nice watch. Clearly way better than your typical Seiko Turtle or Samurai.
Only top grade microbrands will match that quality, but they do it at a more affordable price (Zelos, Nodus, Traska and the like).
That's fair and agreed. In person though, it does give a touch of that feel, at least to me. I think you summarize both the Seiko and micro comparison well. Cheers
@@PepRex Zelos does an excellent job with polishing accents, especially for a micro and the price points, but I agree. This Seiko is spectacularly polished.
Nice Replica
I think they hit the theme well. Cheers
@@JonathanTReviews By replica I'm just fooling. I bought a Pagani watch with a NH35 for just over a hundred bucks threw a OEM dial and Bezel from the MOD Shop and it's same as yours. Like you I like looking at it. I like looking at my wallet even more ;) Pip Pip Cheerio.

@@thekingbee100yeah it’s not the same friend. Keep fooling yourself.
This watch would have been perfect if it had a balck date wheel
It is a great offering from Seiko! I'm generally a huge color matched date wheel guy, but I do appreciate the symmetrical balance the white wheel gives this one too (as an index replacement). Cheers
@@JonathanTReviews agreed, I would only have seikos in my collection if the date wheel colour was close to the dial colour
Certainly its a nice watch but NH35 for above 1K is terribly overpriced.
It's their movement above the 4R35/NH35, but I do agree it's still a pretty hefty price tag. Cheers
One thing I find surprising is the expectation bias for pricing; people call Seiko overpriced as soon as it touches $1,000, $2000+, but never with the brands you expect to cost considerably more for only marginal improvements. I've always had Seiko beater watches (ie SKX007 sort of stuff), but am coming back around looking at the brand as actually offering *more* than some more expensive options.
Panerai has a pretty mediocre track record with their in-house movements, especially considering the price. Recently, they've bumped the pricing in some models (ie the Submersible 683) while actually putting in an even cheaper movement (P9010 -> P900). Otherwise, no hardened finish, no special movement features (jumping hours, etc), mediocre accuracy: and people will soak them up for $7-8k.
If Seiko threw on a domed sapphire and spent more time calibrating these from the factory, I'd pay $2500 no questions asked.
Ya it would be overpriced if that's what it had in it. But it doesn't
Grab a Seiko 5 then... hahahahaha
Everyone needs to give Seiko a break. Without them, mechanical watches would be extinct
To me this watch is boring in steel. I look at it and I want to yawn. There is nothing about it that has anything that's interesting. Thanks.
Fair enough. One of the great things about the hobby, there are plenty of options for every taste. Cheers
Stupid comment
@Barnaby Bourbon That's exactly what I like about it..Tho in the flesh it is way more stunning than I expected.
It really popped a lot more than I expected as well. Cheers
This is what's wrong with Seiko. They take a popular watch, copy it, and slap a Seiko on the dial. In this case, this is an almost replica of the Tudor Black Bay Steel. No wonder Tudor had to discontinue it, even if it was a popular model. Seiko just flat out copied it.
There are certainly comparisons between the two but honestly I don't think it's approaching a knockoff. The markers, hand set, case shape, crown orientation, bezel marking, etc. differ between the two to my eye. Cheers
@@JonathanTReviews of course they cannot copy the exact design. But you cannot deny where Seiko got their cues from in designing the SPB185. It's like Marvel's Thanos is widely considered a ripoff of DC's Darkseid (as admitted by Thanos's creator Jim Starlin), but of course they cannot copy Darkseid's exact design and backstory, otherwise they will be held liable for copyright infringement. In Seiko's case, they cannot copy the Black Bay Steel exactly because they will be held liable for violation of a patent design. But it's very obvious where they got the design...just like where the Seiko got the design for the SPB 143 J1 (the Rolex Submariner and/or the Tudor Black Bay Heritage or Black Bay 58).
@rj The case polishing/finishing on the Seiko is much nicer in my opinion than the Tudor.
xao! xao!
By copy you mean that it has three hands and tells the time? These two watches look nothing a like otherwise
Nice review but how accurate is it in real life? Why do reviews leave this out? If it runs 20 spd slow it's worthless. If it runs +5 spd it's great.
I honestly can't say I pay that close of attention, as I only wear my watches one day at a time generally speaking. That being said, I don't think I've ever had a watch faster than 10-15 spd or slower than minus 5 spd. The same was true with this SteelMaster. It was sufficiently accurate to not be noteworthy in everyday usage checked against an automatic clock. Cheers
