Requiring or forcing Balikbayans/ tourists to get travel insurance by the Phil Gov't makes no sense at all.
We all know that anyone who gets sick for any reasons (including Covid-19) that seeks medical treatment in most, if not all hospitals, clinics, and doctors, none of them will accept your travel insurance as a form of payment for service!
They want you to pay in cash before they will even render treatment. No cash means no treatment!
It's just one of the many stupid examples Philippine gov't bureaucrats still exist in the Phils. It's shameful that these morons are holding those positions.
They're good and mastered implementing casseroles of nonsense!!!
They enforce travel requirements without thoroughly thinking that it causes hardship and difficulty to potential travelers.

Yes, you are right! Not worth the hassle; however, problem with the Philippine government and people interpreting the policy/rules go overboard! That in itself is ridiculous…Why make it harder when the economy relies on tourism and people spending their hard-earned money? What can I say? Only in the Philippines…sad and disheartening!

True! Philippines government should be thankful to all Filipinos who are working abroad and sent money! we are truly a native Filipinos no matter how long we’ve been living outside the Philippines and Still we can be recognized by foreigners as Filipinos and we are proud as Filipinos, the reason why we would like to visit our native lands not only because we would like to visit our love ones but also to visit the Philippines islands especially the beaches of the Philippines islands, and other historical places that Philippines has to offer! but as always the Philippines government gives us so many disappointments because of their protocols, and in every city have their own rules even not before pandemic, too many people wanted to govern the entire country! and the politicians became greedy to take the higher position and some of them don’t really care about the poverty life of the Filipino people. Behind the fancy high rise buildings and establishments yet millions of Filipinos are living in poverty life!

Thanks for the video. I've spent at least 6 months a yr in the Philippines since 2008, except the last yr during Covid. I last left the Philippines in December 2020.
I'm look forward to being in the Philippines again to experience the kind polite Filipino people. However, I'm not going again until all Covid restrictions are lifted except for being triple vaccinated already.
Many experts feel Covid is an epidemic now that is no more dangerous than common flu. Hopefully, things will be more or less normal again by the end of the year.

Hi Grandpa, I have a friend from California who went home to the Philippines about 2 weeks ago. I had asked her if she bought a travel insurance as part of the requirements but she told me that she doesn't have to get one, it is not required if you are a Filipino citizen and in her case she has dual citizenship. In fact she doesn't even have a Philippine passport yet, she just had with her a copy of her Filipino citizenship certificate. She also mentioned that she only took a RT PCR test within 48 hrs before departure and need to fill up onehealthpass for the bureau of quarantine. Hope this information helps. I appreciate all your vloggs, grandpa! Take care and stay safe! Aloha

Thats good to know from your posting, my Philippines passport was expired in 2014. i got it a day after i sworn in my Philippines allegiance in 2009 in NYC but i never renewed it because going to Washington DC is not practical just to renew in person so i just keep it as a souvenir. Unlike the US passport can be renewed by mail. My priority is to keep up my Blue passport for 10 years but not the Philippines passport because i can travel around the world with my US passport but not with my Philippines passport.

I already have emergency coverage ( unlimited ) for international travel ( limited to 60 days overseas) through my benefit plan at work -- although the letter I got did specify Covid19 treatment is included (this after an hour spent on the phone with customer service of my benefit provider), letter does not/will not state the $35 k minimum ( exactly the same story as related by others in this vlog) . Today, I was on the verge of buying extra insurance which will set me back an extra $220 ( sizable amount for me considering I already paid so much for plane fare) but after watching this video, I think I will have another go at convincing my insurance provider to put that magic number of $35 K US ( or $50 K Cdn) on the letter.😊

Even if its not checked, are you going to take the risk beacuse the immigration officer can send you straight back to your country 20 hours travel beacuse its not acceptable.. The reason they made it a free visa on arrival for certain country's such as USA and UK was beacuse they want to make it easy and hassle free for those with money to visit. However with the new rules if you treat those who who have money like USA and UK with hostile requirements and even refuse entry it will harm the reputation of the Philippines. People from USA expect good treatment immigration and if you treat them bad they will not come back as they don't expect hostile rules. The government don't care they will refuse and for everyone they refuse they will tell 100 people about there bad experience and the philippines will no longer be a place that people talk about as a nice place to visit. The first rule of business is to keep a good reputation. Philippines mo longer consider travel as business.

I contacted the BI office in Legazpi asking them if they would be looking at my travel insurance arrangements for the duration of my stay and they told me that they have no instructions for them concerning this issue. In other words, I infer that that they will not be checking my insurance coverage or whether I even have any because there are no directives for them to do so.

This is a very stupidvtravel insurance requirement for covid, really. Like you said grandpa you have enough money to cover for any medical emergency while in the philippines. So what seems to be the problem. And they should know as well that when we get sick while travelling, we have to pay upfront anyway, and after we submit all medical records to our insurance is when we get the refund.. In summary these people at PAL and officials who are issuing this rule have no understanding of insurance. Most of our insurances in the US will cover emergencies out of the country.

So since you have to pay up front for hospital treatment, the only reason they mighht require it is to stop those in there later years 70 + traveling as it will be difficult to get cover. That is assuming they give there correct age when paying. What a joke. Hint give fake age when paying.

Hi grandpa, just sharing my experiences with PAL, we live in manila, my partner is balikbayan with Australian passport, he's going to Australia for one month, when he returns he needs medical insurance to enter , we tried with PAL insurance because he is flying with PAL. We thought it would make things easier, But they said they don't insure people coming into Philippines, they only insure people leaving the Philippines , and is only good when you are outside the Philippines, as soon as you come back your insurance is finished. They told me to find another insurance company in Australia. Traveling has become so stressful now .

Travel insurance: i have kaiser insurance. Same thing with the guy, they don't mention the specifics because it was already made like that. I told them what the airlines requires, kaiser said they can do it but it will take few weeks. My departure will be in 2 dqys. I dont want to risk it. So i looked for a travel insurance. It cost me 45 dollars. They sent me the insurance policy but not the letter that mentioned about covid and the $35,000 coverage. I have to call them and ask for the letter. So thats extra step for me to do. They sent it right away. It was a.relief. I took ANA airlines not PAL though. Id rather pay 45dollars than risk it.! In the airport, don't really know what they will do if i didn't give the travel insurance because i put everything inside my passport when they asked for my documents . I dont think that is Philippine goverment involved on this because they didn't give any airlines a list of travel insurance companies where you need to purchase it.. lolo is right, just buy the cheapest

The policy specifally states coverage for Philippines, what I also did was printed my medical coverage letter from Tricare for Life since I'm retired military as backup because it only states coverage for any medical emergency with no dollar amount because it's world wide and I know I will be in the Philippines beyond 30 days and this will cover me. Even though the Phil government is requiring 35k my question is how did they come up with this dollar amount? Covid treatment could exceed that.
