no scarabs really makes me sad :( imagine grappling onto one climbing up it's leg and destroying the core near banished bases. such a missed opportunity. those big vehicle fights are really a huge part of Halos dna
@bLackstar it could come in a dlc. its disappointing yes but we should be happy we got god of war and not anthem when it comes to halo infinite because "development hell" appears to be an understatement for the past 6 years
10 years and i have a feeling we will have them back probably more deadly considering how easy it is to defeat them, it gives a proper reason to utilize the equipment, and strategy.
@@thesuperintendent4290 I can agree, both multiplayer and campaign were trash in halo 5, map design was hot garbage, literally everyone was sweats and the multiplayer had a garbage sandbox.
I don’t think that Open World design signifies that there CAN’T be changes to the environment. Just look at Arkham Knight. During a section of the story, the city vastly changes and becomes inhospitable until you solve that problem. The Open World doesn’t have to be 100% the same all the way through. Of course, it does kinda need to revert back to the status quo but I don’t think the Open World aspect inherently limits change. Putting collectibles in unrepeatable areas is a big mistake tho. If the game gives you the option to continue playing after it ends then every collectible should be available to backtrack.
Not making big irreversible changes to the open world is important in games like RDR2 where you could spend almost a hundred hours in a single playthrough, but in shorter games like Halo where it's easier to play through them multiple times you absolutely can shake up the world, and it's usually better for it. The games that come to my mind are Far Cry 5 and Dragon's Dogma: In Far Cry 5 the map changes as big story events take place and landmarks get destroyed, and in Dragon's Dogma - avoiding spoilers as best I can - the entire world gets shaken up in the final act. Most missions can still be finished and new ones can be undertaken, but there's a very real and tangible effect the story's taken on the world and it opens up an entire new layer to the game with new monsters and equipment and enemy placements. A game like Infinite could easily make big changes to the game world and it'd probably be incredibly badass to start the game in nice pristine forests and end it with half the map glassed, just include NG+ for when you want to start over and not have to find all your collectibles again.
@@neomcdoom Yeah, I saw some attempts at swampy areas and a few waterfalls here and there, but they never leaned into it like they could have. I wanted to see a 343 Guity Spark style area, thick with fog. They definitely had opportunities for snow with some of the high altitude areas.
Part of me was really really disapointed we didn't get a flood reveal and then like, have the entire world be covered with that flood look, which is hard because I love the story we got and they would have had to change the story to do that, but it would have been one of the coolest things in gaming ever
They should have just taken more inspiration from games like Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row. I mean Saints Row has an entire part of the city become a zombie trap. A large ship in the sky that you can land on and destroy. I kind of wish the Saints Row people took over and made Halo 4 5 and 6 now
Open world games can absolutely do permanent changes to the map, but the map, and any story aspects taking place in the affected area, must be built with that in mind from the start. There are 3 ways to do it. 1. Have multiple main characters repeatedly reference that the change will happen, and that the player character will never be able to reset the affected areas. 2. Force the player to complete, or at least acknowledge, every possible objective in the area before they are able to initiate the events that cause the change. 3. Have the change happen at a predetermined point that doesn't have anything in it that the player could have done before the change happens. The first method is fairly flexible, and can happen whenever the writers need it to in the story. The second method requires that it take place later on in the story, or at least not at the very beginning. The third method requires that the story do the change before the player can really do much in the affected area, so it works best either right at the beginning of the story, or right towards the very end.
It’s strange. As someone who’s first game ever completed was halo 2 as a 4 year old. I never had any specific attachment to sounds like the overcharge plasma pistol or like the shield recharge. But it’s always nice to hear. I even never minded the art style change besides not liking as many armor or the elite looks. This game is the perfect blend of 343I’s love and some of the old bungie magic. Hats off to 343
Around 10:45 , the conversation talks about night time on the ring, & dare I use some head-cannon or w/e.. but this type of bright-night-twilight-shadowsare50%off lighting could just be because there's really not much blocking the nearby star.
My biggest complaint is the hunters. No matter how fast you get behind them, they always seem to be facing you. Oddly the needler appears to be fairly effective against them which is a first lol
I feel the need to argue a point you made. Escheraum choosing to not send his army after MC actually makes sense in the lore because of his obsession with Chief. He's been watching for a while and realized what no one else has. You don't beat the Master Chief with an army, sending an army after him is how you lose. The only things to ever canonically beat Chief are the Gravemind (a creature equivalent to a living supercomputer the size of an aircraft carrier), The Daidact (in the first encounter, only survived by forerunner help), and Cortana's big robots (basically a covenant glassing cruiser on steroids, but without a crew). Chief was all but designed to fight and dismantle armies, it's the thing he's best at. His only real weakness is when you DONT give him an army to fight.
I have to say, the "lack" of different environments is what makes this part of Zeta Halo unique. Other Halo games take place in different places, but Infinite takes place in a specific relatively small area of a Halo ring. It wouldn't suddenly be way better if there was snow or desert in specific part of this area. I think 343 could have done this, but decided not to. It would just have been weird running around on 'Rdr2-map', but even smaller than that. This place is hostile and should feel a bit off, its a part of the whole unique feeling this (in my opinion) fantastic game delivers.
Funny how, after a year or so, they added Co-op, mission replay (my favorite addition) and side content replay, just to have most of the staff fired at 343. Each time Halo Infinite improves, bad news come in and sap the momentum. I hope there's at least an expansion, since the foundation is really strong.
I built my own PC for this game. While I couldn't get an RTX card for cheap, I am happy nonetheless to find this game runs well with a GTX 1660. I did notice quite a bit of stuttery animations throughout the campaign, but this didn't really break my immersion that much, since its probably a shortcut the game takes to keep the fps at 60. Overall, 343 did a great job with this game IMO. Its a nice spin on traditional Halo & carries the story in a way that feels like a genuine Halo sequel. My only real gripe is less to do with Halo, but more the nature of live service games. At some point, the plug is going to be pulled on this game. Its going to die, and no one will be able to play it ever again if that happens, save for cracking it. When that time comes, I hope 343 has some kind of end of life plan to keep this game, or at least the singleplayer playable after the servers are shut down & used for something else.
Ive heard people mention the boss in the chopper many times, but ive beaten the game without see him. I realized in my playthrough he must have fallen out before i even met them and so my spartan killer fight was completely different, entirely on foot.
Played but mostly watched my UA-camr friend play a review copy of Halo Here is an unfiltered and completely blunt take that UA-camrs who want advanced copies will never speak their entire mind on. I'm not going to say 343 screwed the pooch again. Not at all. It's just, Halo Infinite does not feel like a whole game. not at all. What is there is fun as hell just like you've all seen. But the thing is, you've all just seen the whole game (essentially)besides boss fights and other bit of spoilers. Well, it's content, and the huge lack there of is the only thing hindering Infinite. The open world trope is fine as long as you could introduce it to the player one zone at a time. The lack of Biomes or any different zones and the, excuse the pun,, the infinite game play loop, of attack FOB, rescue Marines, and capture the base was never going to satisfy most players. I think Breath of the Wild open world was always too ambitious for a studio that scrapped most of their game right before it was going to be released in 2018. And went with this new Banished direction. setting the stage some 18 months after the ending of Halo 5. The war with Cortana being completely over/skipped. But the last thing Halo fans wanted was the Ubisoftification of the open world. But that is exactly what we got. The - "Hey Chief, I got word from a base, another group of Marines needs your help is real and sadly disappointing. And don't think the story is going to power you through the campaign the story is about as shallow and almost silly as a Sonic game, or Saturday Morning cartoon. - "ILL GET YOU MASTERCHIEF, NEXT TIME!! NEEXXXXTTT TIMMEEE'. Lol for real, The big bad is pretty unintentionally comical. And as far as characters. just you three. the pilot, the AI "Cortana" stand in, and Chief. I can see it now The "pilot" is going to become a meme as much as Preston Garvy. Super annoying over melodramatic whinny, just less is more 343, acting 101..lol Horizon Zero Dawn style.) and look for Destiny type armor skins for multiplayer.
I have a feeling, the halo setpieces of old are gone - a relic of the past now. What we'll be getting is likely expansion of zeta halo, more locations - deserty like behemoth, snowy, swampy and much more. But it is sad because the fact is, within an single small open world like this they can never fit so many biomes seamlessly. Also this begs the question, what is next for halo after halo infinite? Will there ever be another halo or will this live service halo become like destiny and only get content packs, dlcs and story additions but staying within this zeta halo.
There was a possible logical explanation: the banished are spread all over the ring. How long would it take to mobilize, let's say half of them? Wouldn't that also leave a lot of places undefended? They are the hand and chief is the fly. By the time they do FINALLY converge on chief, their influence would probably be far weaker then they otherwise would have been. The plan they do go with does seem better on paper. None of this is mentioned in the story, so your point probably still stands. Depends on weather that line was character motivated, or plot motivated.
22:00 - I like the discussion here, and I would actually find it really cool if something big happened in the end-game that changed the open-world layout. I think Sekiro pulled that exact mechanic off really well. Spoiler, yes, but in the end-game a rival faction literally invades and burns most of the early-game area to the ground, and it made fighting through that old area again hit differently. So if the actual mechanics are done well, the emotional/narrative impact that an all-out Banished counterattack would have on the game could be phenomenal! Hopefully we see something like that with the future DLCs I've heard rumors about.
Nice video! Can't wait to play it. You mentioned the sounds if you're a true halo fan and I agree...I can still remember the sound of the lift at the back of the Halo 2 map called Ivory Tower 🤦🏽 that's when you know you're a long term fan
what i find exciting is that that rings story has alot left to it, and it seems that in between major titles the devs can add story content to keep people invested, its a very big ring after all
@@wweirdguyyou’re not wrong. I don’t think there’s a game engine around that could fly me to the moon. But let’s not pretend it’s not disappointing to hear for the debut showing of a brand new engine after they hyped it up for so long.
I’ve always enjoyed your videos and your opinions on the franchise. What you do on your channel is amazing and awesome, and will continue to be for a very, very long time
@@LateNightHalo while i agree with the second part, doom eternal's landscape is the most repetitive i've ever played. That being said i love the game despite this fault.
@@e11-f2l my point is that (imo) the landscape isn’t a big factor if the content of the landscape is still solid. I was using eternal as an example for that
===SPOILERS=== I wouldn't say regret and guilt were the major topics here. I'd say Regret Truth and Mercy. Chief regretting his actions and blaming himself for them. While this weapon being revealed the Truth. And lastly... Mercy, as Escahrum's deeds reflect upon the entire world. But in the end, he is shown the mercy of a warrior. Despite him being a "monster". A throwback as well, to the prophets. Which is one of the things I loved the most.
I get what you’re saying when the harbinger says just drop your army in him and escheram says, “no odds won’t stop him” as a bit of a cop out, but if you think about it, the covenant DID drop an army on him in halo 3 with the scarabs and it still didn’t do anything. I think it’s more accurate than we give them credit for. Though they could just nuke the whole place.
Armies have been repeatedly sent to stop Chief and have repeatedly been destroyed by him. It happens in this very game, think about just how many enemies you kill here. Escharum is completely right in saying that, if we're being honest.
you can tell they played on controller because of the equipment criticism. You can use all equipment and still have enough mental bandwidth if you are using keyboard
I'm pretty sure that's all but guaranteed. They want the game to be a 10 year plan and there's absolutely no way that's happening without story expansions.
So sounds like it’s better then halo 4 and 5 but still not what made halo halo.. the vehicle are a big issue in my opinion, they are what made the fist halos so fun and not having them leaves a big hole in the game in my opinion
I'm like 4 hours in and it's already too boring for me to continue. There's no environmental variety and the missions are super repetitive and meaningless. The story isn't very good either. This game isn't fit to lick Reach's boots imo.
This should’ve been the first halo 343 made this is definitely more so a start of a new journey then and ending to an old one. Super excited absolutely loved this game!!
26:17 add dual wielding, forge, refined btb & armor customization (like reach and not that armor core bullshit) + more vehicles dammit, brute weapons from halo 3, covenant carbine, plasma rifle, fuel rod cannon, falcon, hornet, revenant, elephant, m90 shotgun, DMR, SAW, spartan laser, m7 smg, playable elites (or, you know, a brute to spice things up), I know it's too much to ask for, but a man can dream innit, and Im not asking for a huge drop of content, all Im asking for is for them to add these content along the way. oh and sandtrap as a multiplayer map, please.
I'm honestly just amazed that they managed to actually build off of Halo 5's terrible story and make something REALLY GOOD out of it. It's kind of insane.
Yeah salvaging Halo 5 was a goddamn miracle, let alone integrating that with the emotional beats from Halo 4 to tie those two disparate games together.
I'm sorry this just doesn't make a lot of sense. The entire game is a big set piece, the engagement distances for AI have been shown to be longer than ever, as well as the general combat dynamic between them in the player far more versatile.
One of my biggest issues with the 2020 demo was the skybox, it looked empty and bland which took a lot out of the world. The skybox here looks beautiful and the day/night cycle is a great way to keep things fresh despite the different biomes (which I genuinely think they're saving for dlc/events) I think Halo Infinite clearly went through development hell and I wouldn't be surprised if it went through a ton of changes. Ultimately, Staten gave them stability and 343i somehow pulled Halo's tomb out of the ground. Now they just gotta build the pyramid around it
Clever to mimic the original gameplay footage from 2020. Definitely shows just how badly the game needed that year delay. I'm excited to get my hands on the campaign tomorrow!
I just had an idea on how Scarab fights could be iterated on. I always felt they were a bit too easy to "defang", as it were, the flanks especially being pretty nonthreatening once you took out the turret operators. I have an idea about this, though. What if there was a two-way gravity lift on each side of the vessel? It could deploy shock troops if you got too close, but also reverse itself to "abduct" lower ranked enemies (such as Grunts) back into the vessel to man the empty turrets. There could even be a brute on a loudspeaker barking orders around like, "Worthless Unggoy! Get me a better crew!", or "Man the defenses!" as the Scarab sucks Banished infantry up to reinforce itself
thatd be cool, though i think scarabs would still be way too easy to fight thanks to the grappling hook. i say make an entirely new enemy, one that has the spirit of the scarab fights but balanced to infinite's equipment. i know they kind of tried that with the kraken in halo 5, but hopefully if they do go in this direction they wont mess up again.
@@loaduscoolclipz5505 this has been a Dilima to me and I finally figured out how to to make the hook not op against the scarab since it's banish the scarab is different so the only way to get in is to turn off the energy barrier to get inside the batteries that are powering the barriers are on the you guessed it the scarabs legs and back knock 3 batteries out to make the scarab go on lockdown mode which turns off the barriers for good the scarab will get back up and do what scarabs do which is kill once your inside there is a tank master elite,/brute you need to kill then press a button which then exposes the lekgolo core then kill it and escape
@@loaduscoolclipz5505 Maybe the Lekgolo worms could detach the grapplehook and prevent you from boarding the scarab until you damage a section sufficently enough that the worms will avoid the damaged section, which will give you something to grab on too.
I get the feeling this is going to be to Halo what Breath of the Wild was to the Zelda series. Is it jumping on the open world band wagon, kinna. Is it a much needed breath of fresh air for the series, yes. Are some long time fans going to be left wanting a more traditional game, probably.
Well, that's probably where the coop campaign is going to come into play as I'd just don't see how they can make a coop campaign be fun to play if its open world like the single player campaign is.
@@mitwhitgaming7722 Or to give 343 a chance to experiment with playing as the Marines you save during the campaign; they likely do their own missions even when you're not around, so a coop campaign focused on what they're doing would work wonders, plus as far as I'm aware no Halo game had you play as the basic Marine.
11:12 is the biggest gripe I have with this game. I don’t want this to be ruined for me but flat out fun combat isn’t enough, to nab my 60 bones. Where’s the swamps or jungle biomes or give me a desert setting like in Halo 3. They limited themselves by making this game open world, it just wasn’t meant for this style of game. Large yet linear sandbox gameplay is Halo. Each area you walked through drove you further into the plot and you always felt in control of where you can go because the game gives you just enough freedom to do so without leaving you feeling lost and ultimately bored with nothing to do.
This is an extremely comprehensive review that really goes deep into the details most reviewers don't really touch on or gloss over which is fine when it's for the public, but as a Halo fan, I really appreciate the well spoken and in-depth feedback. Regarding the music however, while I do agree Halo 4/5 didn't entirely sound like Halo, I don't think their soundtracks should be dismissed. They had some really amazing music that added to the sound of Halo and fit the new direction the series was heading in, which was much darker due to the ominous nature of Halo 3's cliffhanger. While I'm glad Halo looks and sounds like classic Halo again, I hope they still retain the elements of part 4 that did work, and for me, the soundtrack was a big one. Halo can't be afraid to do new things. But now that 343 has proven that they understand the DNA of the series, hopefully they can still move in those directions in the future and bring back some of those new elements they introduced in Halo 4 in ways that'll be more accepted by the Halo community.
I really hope they build on Infinite's Campaign with expansions in the future. Hopefully this could mean large expansions (ODST-like size) with new biomes.
I'd be really really surprised if they didn't. Waypoint says "Campaigns", the achievement for completing the campaign says "Complete the main campaign." My body is beyond ready.
With more campaigns on the ring do you think it’s possible that there could be more biomes? I might be mistaken but it looks like you can see snowy sections on the other side of the ring
Halo infinite's story is like a really good version of the rise of Skywalker. The first of the trilogy was decent and set up the rest of the trilogy, the second is a disaster and screwed up everything, the the third one has to fix it all, except halo is amazing and rise of Skywalker is terrible.
Very good comparison. Lot of the problems from both franchises came from indecisive writers/ directors who couldn’t figure out what direction to go because the fandom didn’t know what it wanted. Halo Infinite’s story isn’t as bad as rise of skywalker by a long shot, but I feel like it also suffers from not being a proper sequel to previous titles
“Spoiler free review,” continues to talk about the relationship between the games antagonists and protagonist and plot points that correlate with the open world. Me: “Fuck, I guess all this new information must not be a spoiler.”
Interesting point about the grappling hook - I just finished my legendary playthrough and I truly think I equally used all my tools during combat. Thrusters, sensor and drop wall all felt pretty necessary for a lot of big fights, especially towards the final missions.
I think the higher difficulty you play on - the more you end up relying on multiple abilities. On heroic, a drop wall and fully upgraded threat sensor were a must for me.
I used the drop wall waaay more than I thought I would, and the threat sensor came in handy against invisible enemies. Oddly, I barely used the dodge. The grapple was just too versatile. One thing I was kinda sad about was that we never got to use the Repulsor, probably my favourite tool in multiplayer. Why on earth didn't we get to use that?
I look forward to eventually playing through with my brother, like we have done with all the other halo games. Unfortunately we are stuck waiting, so I guess 343 gets to wait just as long for our money. It's good to hear the campaign doesn't suck because 343 really needed a win this time around.
In terms of nostalgia, I love Combat Evolved and 2... but I genuinely think this is the best campaign package to date. Where everything after combat evolved felt a little more claustrophobic, this seems like a direct continuation from the original idea. I believe Halo is best when we're exploring wide open spaces, imagining what's over that mountain or across that spectacular vista.
alot of enemies play too defensively especially the hunters, they're more likely to shoot you than to hit you when you've stood next to them for 2-3 seconds and makes it really difficult to do the really fun stuff like dodging their attacks and using the shotgun at those opportune moments, while their still fun to fight, they need to be more physically aggressive and use their guns less
I just want to say thank you for starting your video with "Hunter's Dance" as the Halo Infinite OST Song used to start your spoiler-free review, thanks for that as well. Hope everyone gets to enjoy it in 16 Hours and 20 Mins as well, Good Luck to you Spartans/Elites/AI.
No scarabs is disappointing but remember this is the halo platform for the next decade. Microsoft and 343 would be insane to not add scarabs in one of the DLCs down the line.
I don’t even know why he spoiled that. Yes we would have found out anyway but he spoils way more in this video than he thinks he does by listing things he expected and didn’t get.
The only thing we are missing music-wise, is a true bombastic song or two. Everything sounds too chill/mellow for a tank battle or an epic showdown with a boss. I would really like to hear something similar to “Three gates” or “Reclaimer in a Scarab DLC.
Johnson's one liners were so memorable because it was a quick tonal shift from the seriousness of the plot. In infinite these one liners are non stop, so your point doesn't make sense
5:26 thanks mister no spoilers now I know there is no scarabs damnnn I was really hoping to see a halo wars 2 style scarab fight too. know I am joking ain't that mad just sucks knowing that now
For future expansions they should go more into the direction of Metro Exodus. So: linear level -> open area -> linear level -> open area etc. They shouldn't make one connected open world which is divided into areas, but instead multiple smaller open areas that are divided by levels. Just like Metro Exodus, where you explore a swamp area, hop onto your train, have a linear mission in a cave and then go to an open desert area. Perhaps after the game we could fast travel back to other areas. I think that strategy gives us more to explore while not completely losing the Halo essence of multiple different environments in one game. I don't think Halo needs to be an open world game, but it can surely have some more open world-ish areas for the player to explore. Just like Exodus.
Personal opinion but halo should not do open world. I love my open world rpgs, but with halo infinites sandbox and gadgets, i would have loved a halo 3 layout but with more verticality or open spaces. Infinite is a little too open. Lots of time where you wander without any banished contact, and then all of a sudden there are like 5 enemies surrounding explosives in the middle of the forest. makes no sense. also being able to just refill on weapons or just call in a scorpion at any time felt dirty. But besides that, i absolutely Looooove this game.
This the LAST review I'm watching!! I'm seeing too many cutscenes and much of the map already.. NEED to experience this in the next few hours. Tbh, I think 343 should've gone open world since Halo 4. Requiem was perfect for it and Halo needed the major Refresh. Halo 5, to me, is the banished I do not talk about. Played the campaign once but enjoyed the hell out of Warzone Arena. Scream aloud from the top of your lungs, from the control room at how much you love Halo.... *takes in a mighty long breath*
Boring story but thats fine for a set up/ending as they have kind of ignored 5 and started again. DULL story levels, how many boring flat lifeless installation corridors do we need to walk down!? its nearly EVERY mission. No levels involving marines fighting back or the UNSC fighting the banished at all, the scorpion approach was something thats expected and shouldnt be a highlight. Side missions were lazy and generic, no story to them or real reward. They didnt affect the game or the world in anyway at all. Blowing up fuel or vehicle bases didnt give them less vehicles or weapons. The marines in trouble being highlighted took away the feeling it was an open world, exploring it and the idea that Marines were still holding out, it just put them on a map for you to go too. Littering the map with collectables for MP is just straight padding the length out. a REAL open world game would have quests or missions that dont affect the main story, but add to it or at least world build. Have missions helping Marines counter attack or ANYTHING interesting? The Spartan Killer....they went on and on and on about was just a boss at the end of the game, we didnt see him or hear him or have any interaction during the game to make him feel like a threat. The thruster or the hook should be a dedicated button, on console anyway, the idea you cant quickly select the thruster and the hook is idiotic when the game is trying to have more mobility. You cant hook and then change to thrust to change back to hook again quickly using the D pad, dont copy Doom Eternal and then do a WORSE job. The COMICAL amount of explosive fuel barrels around, who designed this!? The ammo crates just refilling your guns, human guns too, looked stupid and took you out of the world they are trying to build. I feel theres a very good template here for the next game, but this one was just disappointing and felt low effort. I understand they scrapped everything or most of the game with the delay but the blueprint is there but the open world was SO basic and dull. No mission replay and NO CO OP??!! IGN 9 out of 10 my ass
@Big Floppa mostly just minor stuff like cool places or things you would want to see fresh in game. Hard to explain without saying. No major spoilers just a ton of smaller things.
@@darthplagueis7851 also mentions things that aren't in the game at all which personally I consider to be light spoilers since now I know not to bother anticipating those things.
I'm probably about half way through the campaign and I am enjoying It. However.. It feels like Farcry: Halo. I dont feel like the story has progressed at all. Put "The Weapon" down to open some door, listen to dialogue that doesn't really make sense, rinse and repeat. The dialogue from "The Weapon" Is so unclear, unspecific, out of place and straight up confusing. Idk wtf Chief and her and talking about half the time because of the awkward pacing. The event at hand never has any time to breathe. Which leads to whatever you're doing feeling kinda unimportant.
what ruin's infinite's solid art direction is the fact that temporal anti-aliasing makes the game look ATROCIOUS. if you're not running the game at 4k or 120 fps then its like playing through a fogged up window.
I think there's room for more biomes with content updates. We've only seen a small portion of the ring so far, and the campaign story leaves room for expansion without making a totally new game.
Here’s to hoping for solid DLC campaigns or missions. They seem to be implying that we’ll receive some form of single player/coop dlc’s. Would love to see a new map or full campaign and maybe it could be a more linear romp so it’s easier to develop and has an easier time knowing what the player should be doing at any given moment.
I never thought I’d say this after talking shit about this games mp but the campaign is on par with how I felt playing halo 2 and the anniversary for the first time, x2 the world feels massive, the enemies feel intimidating even the fucking jackals since they talk shit now as well as the grunts, I didn’t think they could truly mail that intimidating feeling being a T rated game but I was wrong for sure lol heroic feels exactly that like a mini taste of legendary, the fact that I can see my feet when I can’t in mp, yes to you might feel insignificant but just adds to the immersion of being this legendary warrior, the fact that you can pick up and throw explosive items that aren’t frag Grenades, the guns feel like they do their job, the cutscenes are amazing, an I didn’t think they could do better with making chief more realistic with his armor but the detail is crazy especially detaching a mini gun for the first time and seeing him move around looks like a walking tank, this games campaign is easily tied imo for the best halo campaign ever
Halo: CE and Infinite are my favourite games of all time just because of their campaigns alone. The multiplayer is alright for me in both games, Infinite being a bit better than CE, but man, I LOVE the campaigns!
Honestly I feel like the equipment is actually useful, not just the Grapple. The grapple can be used to stun and melee enemies. The threat sensor can be used to keep track of particularly tough enemies. The Drop wall can take hella damage and give you a breather in combat. The Thruster cans be used to get in and out of situations quickly. The equipment shines when you use them in tandem with one another and switching between them quickly, mastering it makes you feel unstoppable.
Excellent video! What I think 343i should have done to address the lack of environmental variety in Infinite is to have used a sort of “multi-region open world” approach that The Witcher 3 did. That game had 5 total, different large maps that the player could easily go back and forth between (velen, white orchard, skellige, toussaint, Kaer Morhen, not counting the Temerian capitol map tho, since that is all an interior setting). Understanding that TW3 and Halo Infinite are two separate genres, I would have suggested that 343i have it so that there ARE in fact levels - just very large and open ones. This would allow for different biomes to be implemented, for the player to be able to replay certain “levels” AND would allow for the Banished/Harbinger to completely destroy one “region” or another in a narratively appropriate way and make it seem like the world is actually changing with the players advancement through the story. I really actually thought that this WAS going to be the approach, but alas it looks like it isn’t. Maybe down the line in a story DLC or something. One can hope.
Spoiler: I think this game had only TWO FLAWS compared to other halo games. The story is broken up by the open world aspect(AKA- Open world objectives like FOB's have nothing to do with story) and More importantly. This game lacked the "OORAH" and military feel of halo, mainly seen in halo 3. You are quite literally a one man army which i was thinking would be cool but after playing i realized i missed having marine support and driving with a convoy to show the banished what the human spirit can accomplish. That feeling of pride in humanity is pretty much gone. Theres one mission that kinda had this feeling "the road" but besides that i think this game is missing alot of large scale battles with multiple vehicles. Now that i think about it actually, i never even saw a marine drive a vehicle... that says alot. Besides that this game is amazing, those 2 flaws are IMO the one thing stopping this game from being halo 2-3 level of greatness
no scarabs really makes me sad :( imagine grappling onto one climbing up it's leg and destroying the core near banished bases. such a missed opportunity. those big vehicle fights are really a huge part of Halos dna
Someone even made a Banished scarab mod in the MCC..
@bLackstar it could come in a dlc. its disappointing yes but we should be happy we got god of war and not anthem when it comes to halo infinite because "development hell" appears to be an understatement for the past 6 years
@bLackstar eh? are u sure?
Yeah, the vehicles and a lack of different biomes are a big bummer to me but I'm hoping the game makes up for these in some way

Yah, you can see the sun right beneath
My biggest complaint is the hunters. No matter how fast you get behind them, they always seem to be facing you. Oddly the needler appears to be fairly effective against them which is a first lol
I like the challenge, but at some point they just get annoying
"my 1080ti struggled" has the same energy as "spartan casualties"
Played but mostly watched my UA-camr friend play a review copy of Halo
Here is an unfiltered and completely blunt take that UA-camrs who want advanced copies will never speak their entire mind on.
Super annoying over melodramatic whinny, just less is more 343, acting 101..lol
Horizon Zero Dawn style.) and look for Destiny type armor skins for multiplayer.
Odd question. But if I get a physical copy of halo infinite for xbox sx, can I then play the same campaign on steam?

I get what you’re saying when the harbinger says just drop your army in him and escheram says, “no odds won’t stop him” as a bit of a cop out, but if you think about it, the covenant DID drop an army on him in halo 3 with the scarabs and it still didn’t do anything. I think it’s more accurate than we give them credit for. Though they could just nuke the whole place.
Armies have been repeatedly sent to stop Chief and have repeatedly been destroyed by him. It happens in this very game, think about just how many enemies you kill here. Escharum is completely right in saying that, if we're being honest.

Halo infinite's story is like a really good version of the rise of Skywalker. The first of the trilogy was decent and set up the rest of the trilogy, the second is a disaster and screwed up everything, the the third one has to fix it all, except halo is amazing and rise of Skywalker is terrible.
Bro the prequels are great
Very good comparison.

@@ChezzyKnytt Honestly the thruster could have been swapped out for the repulsor and only been a plus

I loved when you recreated the old demo campaign footage lmao
I love how you recreated the july 2020 gameplay reveal.
Ugh, AI discrimination 🙄🤣
dude at first I did not dig hunters dance but MAN is that an all timer track right there...
@@themightyempire3511 right
The only thing we are missing music-wise, is a true bombastic song or two. Everything sounds too chill/mellow for a tank battle or an epic showdown with a boss. I would really like to hear something similar to “Three gates” or “Reclaimer in a Scarab DLC.
Been playing it through and they have musical elements in game that aren't their own songs that play for scenarios like this
Who stumbled here after watching IGNs “review”? Watched this right after, this is a true review from an actual legit halo follower. Well done!
"MCU style jokey joke quippy moments" Did you play the original trilogy? Every time Johnson was on screen he was quipping up a storm.
Very different kind of humor
Johnson's one liners were so memorable because it was a quick tonal shift from the seriousness of the plot. In infinite these one liners are non stop, so your point doesn't make sense
Very glad they brought back the Skirmishers. Some apparently were noting that the Skirmishers recycle a modified Kig-Yar model and texture
5:26 thanks mister no spoilers now I know there is no scarabs damnnn I was really hoping to see a halo wars 2 style scarab fight too. know I am joking ain't that mad just sucks knowing that now
Fair warning guys. Watch out for spoiler thumbnails in youtube, I just got a pretty massive spoiler from the games first level because of them
For future expansions they should go more into the direction of Metro Exodus. Just like Exodus.
or they could do what minecraft did and just integrate it into the world
Personal opinion but halo should not do open world.
I was really hoping they would take advantage of the graphics and make a beautiful night sky
I mean I have seen some pretty etherial night sky's but yh a dark sky would be cool
They did tho

This the LAST review I'm watching!!
I'm seeing too many cutscenes and much of the map already.. NEED to experience this in the next few hours.
Tbh, I think 343 should've gone open world since Halo 4. Requiem was perfect for it and Halo needed the major Refresh.
Halo 5, to me, is the banished I do not talk about. Played the campaign once but enjoyed the hell out of Warzone Arena.
Scream aloud from the top of your lungs, from the control room at how much you love Halo.... *takes in a mighty long breath*
Requiem open world would’ve been very cool
“Spoiler free”
Proceeds to spoil quite a lot
@Big Floppa mostly just minor stuff like cool places or things you would want to see fresh in game. Hard to explain without saying. No major spoilers just a ton of smaller things.
@@darthplagueis7851 also mentions things that aren't in the game at all which personally I consider to be light spoilers since now I know not to bother anticipating those things.
@@MintyLime703 spoiler
Like when he said there wasn’t a scarab chase or any vehicle cool stuff like that.
Please tell me how he could competently review the game without mentioning those.
@@MarilynMalkovich do it like practically every other review I’ve seen that didn’t spoil them.
I appreciate the little “recreations” of the July 2020 demo in the background
I know his story was somewhat finished in comics but it’s almost like the didact was just completely forgotten. I really liked the didact
