Ingredients
1 cup (1/2 pound) dry chick peas (not canned)
1/2 onion, roughly chopped
1 bunch fresh parsley
4 cloves garlic
1 rounded tablespoon flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
vegetable oil for frying
tzaztiki, tahini, or shawarma sauce for dipping
Instructions
Soak the chickpeas covered with cold water overnight in a large bowl. They will double in size so make sure there's plenty of water.
Drain the soaked chickpeas well.
Place the garlic cloves in a food processor and pulse until finely chopped.
Add parsley leaves and thin stems and chop with garlic.
Now add the chickpeas, onions, salt peppers, flour, baking soda and coriander. Pulse until everything comes together and is finely chopped. It should hold together. You may add a bit more flour if you need to so that it holds.
Transfer the mixture in a bowl and cover tightly with wrap. Refrigerate at least 1-2 hours or overnight.
Heat the oil to about 370 °F.
Form the falafel balls using a small ice cream scoop. You can also make patties if you prefer (like mini burgers).
Fry about 5-6 at a time so that they cook evenly and the oil's temperature does not drop too much.
Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until beautifully golden brown all around.
Place cooked falafel on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Serve these with tzatziki, pita bread and chopped salad (cucumber, bell pepper, onion).
Enjoy!!

I am not from the middle East but i love vegetarian dishes,so i am going to try this recipe weekend as pert of my birthday celebration..❤
I am a Jordanian and I love Falafel. I could take it any time, morning or night. You had a great recipe for Falafel. Your Falafel came so well. The only thing that is different is the sauce, we use tahini sauce instead of mayonnaise. Thank you for the great details on your video....you killed me with that bite of the crispy Falafel...aaaaaah, now I am so hungry...Thanks, Dear
As someone who doesn't like tahini, I'm glad she didnt!
@@LindaC616Who doesn't like Tahini sauce, lol, anyway, I understand, in fact you may enjoy it without Tahini sauce.
@@ibnseena I will try it without tahini...every time I try to eat hummus, it goes bad before I finish it. It's the tahini
I love middle eastern foods. Lived in Chicago many years and enjoyed food from Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, Israel. Had many friends from these countries too. Some were from Palestine too.
I'm plant based and I'm loving this recipe for this dish..loved you used alot of fresh ingredients..keep these vegan dishes coming. I'm sharing with my non plant based families..💐💐💐💐🌱🌱😘😘
I had to come back and comment now that I have tried your recipe. This is The best recipe for falafel ever. Thank you Dimitra it is very tasty!
This is a really good recipe Dimitria, efharisto poli! I'm half Lebanese and half Greek so it's so nice for me to see you make this falafel. In Lebanon we serve it with delicious toumya or tahini sauce called taratur. I highly recommend you try your yummy looking falafel with them for an authentic taste. As we say in Lebanon, it's so good you'll eat your fingers. 😊💞
Maybe you could kindly post your tahini sauce recipe. That would be lovely.
I am Lebanese and our falafel recipe is somewhat different than this recipe. Also- falafel is made to eat with tahini sauce. This is the true ethnic way. My husband is Greek and I love watching your channel to learn new Greek recipes! ❤️
Love to see the veggie recipes. Please demonstrate for us more
Wonderful! Thank you for making it so easy.

Thank you for this recipe. I love falafels and I’ve even gotten my friends to like them. They are served at a local restaurant in our small town in Montana. Now I can make my own with all the trimmings 😻
This looks so good. My husband loves falafel so I have to make this. I'm so with you on cleaning as you go. We do the same. Can't stand messes.

יש לך חזות נעימה אדיבה.
לגבי הקציצות שלך אני שמה במקום חלב סודה לשתיה וזה גם יוצא טעים.
תודה לך🙏🥰
Yum! Try with a lemon tahini sauce too!
A tip for slicing cherry tomatoes: put them on a plate, and put an upside down plate on top (the plates have to be just deep enough so that the tomatoes don't get squashed. Bowls would be way too deep). Then get a sharp knife and slice through the line where the two plates meet, and you'll have sliced all you tomatoes in one go.
Dimitra thank you for this delicious recipe! I haven't had a good falafel sandwich since college...looking forward to making this for my family! Blessings to you!😊
I watch these videos on Facebook. I’m going to skip Facebook and start watching them here because I know you get better credits for UA-cam videos. I love your recipes.
Mashallah yummy looks! 😍😋👌
Thank you for the great recipe
I always make falafel at home it’s a tradition to eat falafel in my country Jordan , you find falafel shops in every corner , serving hot ,fresh and delicious falafel, and there is falafel with sesame and some falafel are stuffed with onion and some are spicy. Thank you for your good , easy simple recipe .
I would love to try all of those falafel. They sound delicious!! Thanks for being here :)
You had me drooling watching this video. I can wait to make them. I hope I find dried garbanzo beans (chickpeas) at the grocery store, when I go this evening!😋
good video thanks for sharing..
Wait Wha? Falafel? No way! I first learned of and fell in love with it when I spent part of 2 summers in Israel many years ago. Ok Dimitra, lets see what you got. Bring it.
Falafel is Palestinian , Palestinians have Greek roots, so Palestinian cuisine is similar to Greek
Great recipes Dimitra!! Happy Lent...kali Anastasi
Ma sha Allah
WOW
Love mine with tart tahini sauce, pickles and radish. Mmmmm
Yummy!! Sounds delicious!!
I usually add sliced pickles and Shatta (chili paste) to my sandwich.
Hi 🙋♀️ if I want to bake them , what temperature, setting and time please 🥰. Sorry I am so sorry I found it on the blog 😜😍thank you so much love it 😊
Bravo .well done.
I would like to add that usually we crush the falafel by just pressing it in the sandwich to infuse the taste and to mix the added sauce hot pepper ....etc with the inside of the falafel as well. Also the sauce is tahini yogurt lemon which is a beef shawarma sauce.
Mayo garlic .... Is a chicken shawarma sauce.
Have you ever used Seven Spices in any of your MIddle Eastern or Greek dishes ? Its quite commonly used in these dishes and it is delicious. You can get it on Amazon and most Middle Eastern stores sell it too..
I'm thrilled you included a baking option in the recipe. These look delicious! Can you freeze them?
Yes!! That information is in the blog post as well 🙂www.dimitrasdishes.com/classic-falafel-recipe/
@@DimitrasDishes Thank you!
Cusinart suggests with processor running, drop onion and garlic through feed tube to mince. Always works!

Can I use canned garbanzo beans? Thank your for your video!
Lovely recipe, can I use fresh coriander instead of parsley.
Hi Dimitra can I use chickpea flour as an alternative to the plain flour?🙏
A late night Dimitra!! Mmmm
I am loving your channel. For several years on my birthday I celebrate with Greek food usually in a restaurant. You have encouraged me to cook more Greek because I love it so much. Your quirky videos make me happy and are so down to earth. I especially love the salads you make. Thank you for being you.
Hi Dimiras I did not find the baking link below. How long for baking and at what temperature do you suggest❓ So sorry for the inconvenience, but I am totally intolerable to fried foods 😝 thank you for sharing 🇿🇦

Γεια στα χεράκια σου , if you put half bunch of parsley and half of fresh coriander it will you a great taste
Love the Jordanian music, if anyone is familiar with this song please share, thank you!❤
What brand of Olive oil do you consider good quality? Which brand do you use?
Pl add 4 big TSP of read crumb to set this batter. It will give you crispy taste making falafal.
Can you make the mixture and leave them over night?
I love falafel, but my recipe adds cilantro and dill, and I prefer tzatziki sauce (grated cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, Greek yogurt, salt) on the falafel in the pita. But really, any way you make falafel is delectable. I just like mine herbier. Even some sumac in addition to the cumin.
There are falafel Moulds./ Scoops to make falafel patties. Mould/ Scoops can be bought from Middle Eastern groceries shops or google.
What temp and for how long would you bake these
All of that info is right here:www.dimitrasdishes.com/classic-falafel-recipe/
Can one use the yellow chick peas to make falafel?
Do you have any Lamb roast recipes?
What type of oil did you use?
👍👍👍
I notice the video instructions and quantities are different from the written ones. Which one should I follow ??
Any substitute for the flour? For lower carb/GF
Chickpea flour would work :)
@@DimitrasDishes δόξα τω Θεώ 👍❤
Can we substitute the flour?
Yes, you can use chickpea flour instead or let the mixture rest for at least 30 minutes 🙂
Do you remove the skin from the chickpeas?
Can the cook falafels be frozen?
