- In this video I give a full in depth tour of a 1988 Lincoln Town Car. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

Now that's back when they made a car! A good quality build, and you NEVER see those nice comfy seats in any new car these days!
I saw a video on the 1980 Lincoln's and the leather seats in it looked even more comfortable.
@@Tigerfire75 some people prefer cloth seat. it's feel fluffy.
I love these things. My grandmother had an 87 Town Car back in the day. It felt like it was floating on clouds when driving.
No lie, that clock is badass.
What a nice machine. I believe this car has potential. Very cool.
This car is 100% prettier and more reliable than most cars that are made nowaday
I agree, I have mix feelings on the new cars especially the new Lincoln line up. I have a 2006 which I love & I'd buy another in upper trim level or an older model like this one.
perfect car to do some luxury mod like adding the window curtain and the table like you see on the Roll Royce and Bentley. I'll probably add the fridge also.
Lincoln & Def Leppard. Perfect!
Lincoln Lux Heck yea and Frank Sinatra
These were nice cars at the time & still are. I remember this option for wheel covers, wire wheel covers looked great too.
my parents had a 87, damn it was a smooth ride that car had, best 8 years I can remember of the comedy of errors my folks went through, out of the 20+ car I can remember, that was my favorite
Ah, good times, man, good times. I love this car.
my mom had a 88 town car--i drove it and it was the best and the smoothest ride i have ever been in--the cars nowadays all look the same--i new all the cars back then--the cars today--i couldn't tell u what any are they all look the same.................
This tiny tiny elderly lady in town owns one hers is triple green and in absolutely pristine condition, she said she only drives it around town (3000 people live here) and honestly I'd love to buy it from her. There's another elderly woman who drives around in a 06 Chrysler 300C Hemi AWD .. so jealous!
haha. both two completely different cars. the Townie has a true frame, the 300C is a unibody. ;)
NOTHING LIKE ROLLING DOWN THE ROAD IN A GREAT LUXURY CAR WITH DEF LEPPARD
ed evanko Frank Sinatra also! Haha
i had an 87 and would love to have it back what a nice car
Great video as always Kyle! What a beautiful older Town Car!
Thank you so much! I am buying this same car same year and everything for my first car!
@fresky74 I find this car to be stylish. I own a 1989 model, and I get loads of compliments about how it looks.
I miss my 87 lincoln. I named her big Bertha. All white with dark blue leather interior and matching blue half leather top. Mine had the turbine wheels and I put bigger white walls on it. I got mine from a guy that owned a dealership and just couldn't drive it anymore. Used to love the power antenna feature and the ride was like no other.
I love the late box body Town Cars.... the rear fascia with those little square lights on the side and horizontal strakes is BEAUTIFUL! It was a look at how the '90-'94s would look from the rear too. This sexy '88 reminds me of a white '89 Signature Series I saw at a local car show in the summer, right down the awesome velour interior and vent windows. The guy bought it new in '89, drove it down to Florida before the snow hit, and then drove it back after the snow melted. The interior on his was in a little better shape (didn't have any wear on the horn pad, glovebox wasn't busted up like most of them get, etc.) but it was close enough.
This one just needs the vinyl top deleted, a new main drive belt, and some other maintenance then you're set. These really do make great hot rods, if you want to go that route. Big brake kits, polyurethane suspension bushings, sway bars, coil springs, shocks, etc. You're making it hard to decide which generation of Town Car to pick up as a project. I love these '88-'89s AND the '90-'94s!
These were very nice cars. I owned an 89 Town Car, which i purchased for $750.00 a few years ago and really enjoyed it as my daily driver. I got about 12 MPG in the city. These Town cars were well built and very reliable.
Just dug my grandfathers out of the garage it’s been in there for 4 years has a hole in the block and fired right up , what a car!
My grandmother drove her 1999 Town Car until she was 95 years old, and now I own it. It gets an "Antique Auto" license plate next year! I like the 1990-1997 generation best but for better or worse the 1998-2013 like mine are a bit more of a driver's car (slightly shorter, firmer suspension, heavier steering, a bit more HP, etc.) I do prefer the cloth seats since the suede like material Ford used was very soft and very durable. The 4.6L V-8 in the later Town Cars is a very reliable and durable engine.
I love this car SO much.:)
@ice11cold The cars came with a standard cassette player, but an additional CD player was available in 1987. It was mounted underneath the radio near where the ashtray is.
Nothing like classic "boating" Good job Kyle!
Found one of these in Melbourne with 55,000 original miles on it! I live in Queensland so I am driving down half of Australia to buy it cause I want one that much!
***** Did you buy it?
Not yet! The seller just sent me some more pics yesterday. Looks very good, zero rust and perfect leather etc
***** Good luck, I hope that you get it. I have an 87 Town Car that has been in my family since new, it's an awesome car and always puts a smile on your face. Please let me know how it goes.
Thanks man! Yeah I really want it, love the big ol' boats haha
ENJOY IT ! I'v been driving them since 1995 . 397,000 miles on my first one . STILL running fine when I gave it to my landlord .
extremely nice car. love this generation best. my aunt had an 85
My grandfather had a two-door Lincoln automobile. They really are very reliable cars if you treat them right. And it was one of his most valuable cars. Shame he sold it.
Wow 1988.. power close drunk feature? Amazing...
wow great car thank you
I love this generation Town Car. I don't knot if I like this generation or the 90-97 generation better. Both are amazing. I'd be happy with either one. If only this had the leather seats and electronic dash I'd be set. :D
that's an awesome car pretty good shape too.
Nice ride.
i absolute enjoy this video and the car
and i bet cars as these can t park in my city or be hard to find a parking spot
stil love these cars thank you
I liked the video poor walk around that car has lots more to it but you posted it so .....your still cool!
thanks
nice vid, they had alot of luxury options for their day.
Pretty cool. I actually practiced driving in this car, especially since it's a big car.
love these vids x)
Those power front vent windows are a feature sorely missed these days!
Its bigger than TEXAS.
And I GodDamn love it! Thanks Kyle!
:D
I always loved this Rolls Royce looking model of Town Car. This would be a nice one to restore.
Thank you Kyle. I`ve had several Town cars in the past as well as Cadillac Fleetwood Broughams, still like the cadillacs better but lincolns were nice too.
I love that song, HYSTERIA.
@jpg42893 one switch was for the window on the other side... you could control both rear windows from the back
I’ve got one myself and it’s fun same every thing one bulb out
@throughlou you have a good point there, but the thing is that, around the 80's is when one of the first major oil crises hit, and small, effiecient japanese cars were brought to the US market, and american car companies responded by dramatically lowering compression and power output in order to keep up. look back to the 60's and 70's, most 305 V8's and sometimes smaller made upwards of 250-300HP, the 80's is when things went downhill.
I used to drive one of these for the Hilton Hotel to Newark International Airport. Incredibly smooth ride. One night the door man decided to take it home and he kept it overnight. He got canned. Good guy, good doorman, but he got temped by this luxury beast and lost his job.
It used to be a great joy to me to watch my across the street neighbor parallel park one of these. He was so good at it - never looked like he was going to fit and then he just smoothly backed her in. I swear the wheels turn completely sideways.
I love when old cars bounce win you hit a bump..
My 2006 has the power close/latch feature as well.
Real car USA people love those cars will in Chicago to my Style beautiful cars
If I could choose, I'd take a Town Car for every trip around town any day.
I have the same year red leather seats just turn 100,000 miles today. mine white as well nice ride
put 397,000 on mine.... NO engine work except for occasional tune - ups . STILL RUNNING when I gave it to my landlord....
OMG we had a 88 town car it looked just like this one same color and everything but ours was even better condition and had leather seats, it would of been my car to but I wanted a sports car and I do regret not taking it : (
@Mirron1 Looks more to me like the running lights on the front fender.
my brother wants to get one of these for his birthday
rare to find these cars in really nice condition
34k miles for an '88? Wow! Also, Incubus ftw!
i have an '89 model and it's better than modern cars when it comes to the ride and safety:)
Nice
This would have been a heck of a luxury car back then. Power windows in 1988 wow. btw the clock stopped working at 5:40 lol
I can smell this video. That old car smell is so good
take the town car for a drive love the old town cars
Yea...We have a 1988 Town car with leather seats. It looks WAY better than the cloth.
@celsovera91 I think he was talking about the blinker.
the 1985 mercedes would be my choice of the luxury cars of that time! but this is a very good one though!
good job kyle
You`re cool, man !
Listening to Def Leppard's Hysteria in an '88 Town Car...classic '80s.
I got to drive a town car just like this one the other day. The suspension is pretty squishy just like you'd think a car like this would be.
If this was brand new. I’d get all the features you can get (Which probably isn’t much) but i’d for sure want leather interior. And black everything!!
I would like to know how to replace the door chime mine is not working and i would like to get it going again
@Z0hann yup, saw a 92 buick roadmaster the other day and said the same thing, only back when a buick was a buick. until the enclave came out, there was kind of a 10 year sucking spree in between
This used to be my great grandmother's car
damm i looks really good for all those miles, greatthings from argentina.
hey friend can you help me? i have the same car same year but i dont know where the horn relay is located, can you tell me where the relay is located?it will be appreciated.
Carro lindo e maravilhoso. Ford Group the Best
They should kept continue the older Generations like that until 1993.
I use to own this same car..
the 1981-1989 Lincoln Town Car was assembled in
Wixom, Michigan, USA
and for everyone who doesn't know, the 302 5.0 engine that is in this car is not exactly the same as the mustang's, or f-150, there are suttle differences.
@tynanmc5 It has a 302 5.0l
93 town car, 99 continental, 99 navigator. love lincolns!
I always wanted to drive those Town Cars. I Drive a Mercury Grand Marquis. Close enough lol.
i think you're supposed to turn on the high beams in order for the inner bulbs to work
@santi308 it's a 1988 cassette players were used
@MeInTheNewWorld Power windows were in a lot of cars back in the 80's
Normally I don't see the appeal to these "old man cars", but this one is oddly appealing to me. I feel like it doesn't try to be cool; it just is. Plus, my friends would love it, and the styling nowadays says "I dont take myself too seriously".
Just my two cents.
@L1011tristar17 its a 1988 casette players were used
@marcvie9 I think UA-cam is on the fritz today, I can't seem to find a video of YOUR car.
nice and rust free just the way i like it
@marcvie9 Pretty nice cars. Is it an older Mercedes? You should post a video of it.
i love this generation.
1998 and newer all look the same no matter what.
I have an 1985. Same as the color as the Lincoln Lawyer car.
yeah, I understand. It's just a detuned 5.0 from the fox body right? So using damn near the same engine in a lot of things keeps production costs down right?
damn I remember when these were new lol
I really enjoyed this video. That is a base town Car from 1998. Three dead giveaways: the instrumentation , the climate control , and the seats . The gas mileage was not bad on these Town Cars from this era. This was one of my favorite Town Car designs. That car has held up well. That car also had great interior room.
Thanks Kyle
1988 !
@MeInTheNewWorld yeah I meant to say luxury cars back then lol

It only had 320 Newton meters of torque which is 236 ft lbs before the 20% drivetrain loss, so around 190 ft lbs torque for the 8.1
