I've been saying this for years. The more critters I can pack into my tank the better, I will never get sick of watching hermits and serpent stars scuffle for food on a detritus bed while miniature shrimp and stars scour the rocks above. Sponges and other filter feeders are so stigmatized these days, but they are such an important part of the reef environment!
Absolutely
True mate. For any ecosystem to be successful it takes all kinds of life including tiny organisms we can't or can barely see and some perhaps less appealing ones that we definitely can.
I like your approach. Biodiversity is beneficial, and I prefer the aesthetics of aquariums that mimic the uncurated, messy imperfection that you find in nature.
Well said!
I agree completely, I’ve noticed the tanks where Acropora and all these harder corals to keep do best in a tank with higher biodiversity, as well as the added benefits of being capable to add more challenging fish such as pipefish, nudis & emperor shrimp
I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but there is a Greg area to add. Everything is black and white. Great video
Thanks for watching
Feel like what I like best is a sort of natural look, but not overgrown. Having like a good mix of everything. Hair algea and the more ugly looking ia more fit as background on glass, while other species of macroalgea fits other places. But what learned from planted tank is so important to get enough of macro algea when you gonna start using proper light. Also one smart thing with surface skimmers is not just having that fine filter but throw in a sponge ontop to get rid of bigger particles first and add some micro organisms to it. So stays cleaner for longer. If you want you cn go look at my channel see how my tank is setup. Though atm need hair algea under control and plan change terrain in it
Naturalistic ("pest" friendly) tanks are really on the rise in freshwater, seemingly as a reaction to the same sorts of things you describe here
Great to hear
Another great video dude
Thanks
I have Oenone fulgida worms :(
Getting live rock was definitely worth it as you mentioned, though these predators are super hard to trap and really getting on my nerves.
I am seriously considering getting some venomous Conus regius cone snails to decimate them, though I assume it would take a long time of alternating between my main display and refugium before I can try adding other mollusks to my tank again.
Sorry to hear that
I have two tanks, one is mature and algae seems to be alive for now, but in the other newer one algae just melts. Do you have some tips on speeding up maturation process of the tank?
You could transfer a small amount of rock etc from the mature tank into the non matured one to seed it
@unclecharlie9022 really?, i keep thinking there is not enough of it, like they have sun in nature.
Do you have any experience with diy rock/ aragocrete?
Nope
did you sniff a rockpool
Every day
Man made rocka sucks
