    Do you have updated sony rx video settings video - also I use Sony Vegas, do you have any editing presets for that? I cannot for the life of me get these things right and I've been using them for like 10 years now.

    For 60p you want the shutter speed at 120th rather than 60th - double the frame rate

    • @Guitarsdetectors
      @Guitarsdetectors 6 років тому

      Paul T that’s the 180 rule, but going less, within limits is not a problem. Just shouldn’t go much if any amount above 120fps else you begin to get too much stutter

    I am tempted to buying one of these, but the choice is between theV and the VII… I am tempted by the 24-70 on the V, the nd filter, but the mic input on the VII also seems tempting… 😮

    Excellent video. I am using this camera on my channel now, but haven't ventured far from auto yet. You definitely made it look less intimidating :)

    Totally not trying to be a dick but I disagree with some of this. Most vloggers don't go full manual. Last time I saw Casey neistats camera screen he had p mode on. I think people should at least have ISO in auto because vloggers don't wanna stop and change it every time they move into a different light. Could kill a lot of their shots. Also 30p is better imo and then people can have a separate slo mo custom setting you can easily switch to. Also, shutter should be double the frame rate, in fact I'd suggest that vloggers just keep it on shutter priority if that's possible in that camera.

    just curios why would you want 60p... aside from being able to slow it down 40% if you want to play it in real time in a 23.976 timeline your videos going to look way to real (no motion Blur) when you shoot 60p. for Vloging don't you think using 23.976 would be more beneficial if the majority of your Vlog is you talking? I'm knew to this whole Voging thing so just curious your thoughts!

    • @nyrubin
      @nyrubin 6 років тому

      Jacob Crawford people argue this a lot. But for vlogs, slowing down some clips is way better than getting motionblur. It's a small trade off but for vlogging there's so much going on that no one should pay attention to the video quality or look of it. They should pay attention to you and what your day is about. And since ur recording all day something funny might happen like someone tripping or someone cutting you off or someone getting robbed in the background. N u might want to slow it down. That's way better than motion blurring throughout all 30 clips u put together for 5 minute video.

    So, does turning the Picture Profile to OFF give you the flattest profile *or* do you have to select one of the listed picture profiles to get the flattest profile?

    • @sisonitsfrench5861
      @sisonitsfrench5861 8 років тому +2

      +Ivan Setting PP to PP7 (s-log2) will give you the flattest profile, but the minimum ISO will be 1600. You can also use PP6 which isn't as flat.

      RUNPHOBIA the Sony rx100v uses the full with of the sensor in 4k. But it doesn't use the full length of the sensor. It crops the top and bottom. So technically u dont use a 1" sensor in 4k. I'm using my sony rx100v for my videos in guyana(south America) and I'm loving every second of it. Vs carrying my Sony a7sii

    You just said something profound and I had to listen to it twice. You said that the ND filter really isn't a filter. That it's an electronic adjustment to the sensitivity of the chip? But you said that it brings down the light that's hitting the filter. What kind of sorcery is this? It does make me wonder if this is just an ISO cheat. But admittedly building in an ND (like the big cameras have in a filter wheel) would be a tough nut to crack. What do you know about this?

    • @nyrubin
      @nyrubin 6 років тому

      Dennis Mathias idk about it being electronic. I physically see a nd filter on my rx100v when I turn the nd filter on

    Nice video dude. I use automatic settings on everything. For vlogging no one should be changing any settings outside of maybe turning the nd filter on and off and making the autofocus to fast. I watched your whole video. It was good. But I don't think it was for vloggers.

    You're giving out some bad advice. Why are you telling folks to set their shutter speed to 60p ? 60p is a great deal of information to push down the internet pipe per second. *If I am going to shoot for web streaming content, then I want to shoot at 24p,* not 60p ! Regarding the *best codec to set for internet streaming, UA-cam useses a variant of MP4,* not S XAVC. MP4 is a high compression codec, thus one might get a little *more recording time per SDXC card,* as opposed to S XAVC. Many folks have slower internet connections, so 24p will always be a better setting for streaming to them. *Never attempt to edit footage shot @ 30p or 60p in a different frame rate timing project !* Doing so will cause your editing applications to *drop frames* to meet the necessary base time fps of the project, thus *more CPU intensive processing and a slight loss of quality to the image.* Why do folks who choose to use this excellent, amazing quality, camera never discuss *the work around to allow continuous 4K shooting and external Microphone input ?* Do you not know *the Sony RX 100 MK V allows uncompressed continuous 4K output via its micro HDMI ?* Thus, *it is possible to use an external recording device with the RX 100 MK V and connect the camera to that, along with an external microphone.*

      "You're giving out some bad advice."
      Lets see what youre saying then
      "If I am going to shoot for web streaming content, then I want to shoot at 24p, not 60p"
      Record 24p while your phone, computer and laptop has 60hz screen? Great idea.
      "MP4 is a high compression codec"
      MP4 is container not a codec. XAVC is using H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec and MP4 in Sony is also H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec. There's no difference, but XAVC gives you a lot more options because Sony wants to promote XAVC as its their standard.
      "UA-cam useses a variant of MP4, not S XAVC."
      UA-cam is using their own codec named VP9 in MKV container.
      "Many folks have slower internet connections, so 24p will always be a better setting for streaming to them." "MP4 is a high compression codec, thus one might get a little more recording time per SDXC card, "
      Recording time ONLY depends on bitrate.

      You wrote: "Record 24p while your phone, computer and laptop has 60hz screen? Great idea." *Yeah, it is a great idea. 24p can go up to 60Hz via 3:2 2:3 pul-up, therefore it's an excellent idea. 60 Hz TV refresh was designed to handle slower frame per second speeds from its very inception.* Ever see a movie on TV in North America ? *Movies are shot in 24fps.* You wrote: "UA-cam is using their own codec named VP9 in MKV container." *Incorrect !* UA-cam uses 4 container formats and 4 different codecs. It depends on the popularity of the video what codecs are used for your video. Generally, every of your uploaded videos will be encoded in h.264 and will be muxed into an .flv and .mp4 container. That's the standard and this will happen for every video. Though .flv will only be used for resolutions below 720p. Meaning only 360p and 480p will exist in an .flv container. Though every video below 720p will also have a mp4 version available. For 240p UA-cam is also using 3gp which is a rather old codec (based on MPEG-4 Part 2 (not to be confused with MPEG4 Part 10 aka h.264) meant for mobile devices (long before the smartphone era), it comes in the container .3gpp.
      The other codec used is VP8 which is coming in the WebM container format. WebM is a format developed by Google and was meant as a standard video codec for HTML5, support for it is by now pretty good in most modern browsers. WebM was introduced with the HTML5 version of UA-cam. UA-cam only encodes some videos in WebM after they got uploaded and mostly only popular videos (going by the videos I saw encoded in WebM) so it's not certain your video will be present in WebM. Though this is changing with WebM gaining some more support.
      VP9 is only used in some instances in Chrome Browsers and never in .MKV containers. UA-cam only supports MKV as a source file for encoding in WebM but so far only chrome supports this codec (as of 06/2015). With VP9, they also introduced support for the Opus audio codec (besides AAC which is used in all other containers).

    • @AXYZE
      @AXYZE 7 років тому

      Movies are shot in 24fps, but do you watch them on UA-cam? No, you watch them on TV like you said which is dynamically changing refresh rate depending on content!!! UA-cam CANT do it.
      " It depends on the popularity of the video what codecs are used for your video." "VP9 is only used in some instances in Chrome Browsers and never in .MKV containers."
      So lets try random UA-cam downloader app called 4K Video Downloader and see what options it gave me when I put 2160p 60fps YT video.
      MKV(VP9) = QCIF up to 2160p 60
      MP4(H264) = QCIF up to 1080p 60 / 1440p 30fps.
      3GP(MPEG4) = QCIF and 240p
      All of these doesnt require any conversion. How did I get MKV without any conversion? Its PC app, not web app. Explain it why I was able to play this after
      "only chrome supports this codec (as of 06/2015)"
      Nice Googled information, but VP9 is supported via all other browsers already, its just not supported on XP.
      "they also introduced support for the Opus audio codec"
      I didnt told you about audio, stop copy&pasting Googled informations.
      "UA-cam only encodes some videos in WebM after they got uploaded and mostly only popular videos"
      Go to my channel, open newest video, rightclick on it -> stats for nerds and you will see pretty "vp9" text there. 471 views so popular lol. Just an exception? Go to my other video and another and another... Yea, thats not how it works.
      You are pastin Googled informations so I'll do the same. From Wikipedia "The default video stream is encoded in the VP9 format with stereo Opus audio; if VP9/WebM is not supported in the browser/device or the browser's user agent reports Windows XP, then H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video with stereo AAC audio is used instead."
      Any source that VP8 is used in 2018 on UA-cam?

    • @DennisMathias

      Since UA-cam (maybe Vimeo) is where most of the final products will end up, we are at their mercy. But I do know a 4k XAVC looks decidedly better than one of the 1080 products. We don't even talk about i or p any more. It's all handled in the cloud. So you have to think about what you WANT it to look like on say UA-cam. And you want it to be the best for someone with a really high pixel count monitor..something that can reproduce the gamut realistically. You don't often run into someone who uploads a product but some people can see it and some can't. And if they can only display 720p..that's okay even if you've uploaded it as a 4k chunk of video. It will degrade appropriately and everyone will be happy. So shoot in 4k if you can afford the space and the time. Only those two are a factor.
      Regarding shooting 60p at 1/125 shutter..I reserve judgement on that but I think this may be handled by algorithms in the camera and you might not have to think about it. Somebody ought to do a comparison and we'll see how it looks at the two shutter rates. There might be some temporal aliasing distortion. Imagine shooting at 60p with a shutter at 1 second; what happens? Video will be a blur. Just matching 60p with 1/60 of a second will JUST expose that frame 1/60th of a second and unless there is a lot of subject motion it should be FINE! If you notice some frame blurriness consider halving the exposure time. And shooting at 24fps is fine if you're exposing at 1/30 of a second since 1/30th fits just fine in 1/24th of a second. If you shoot TOO fast..say 1/400th of a second at 60fps, the eye may pick up some aliasing--kind of like flicker. Smoothness is lost. And that's why cinematographers shoot at 1/24--human flicker-fusion rate is on the order of 18-24 images per second, which is why cinematic pictures show at 24 FPS. BUT the human eye can see way over 24fps and that's why if you shoot 60p at say 1/400 that the result is disconcerting.
