    The Foam filter in the OASE serves as a media for bacteria growth :)

    • @CharlotteKoiClub
      @CharlotteKoiClub  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, that is certainly true that the foam does that. And if you would like to have more bio filter you can connect one to it.

      I have a 1600 gallon pond with 7 koi. What size pump do you recommend? Is this filter too large for my Pond?

    Can you do a review of the tetra pond bio active filter 4000g?
    I have this. But it seems like my pond has alot of particles floating around. Im thinking of attaching a waterfall filter after the bio active filter. Also contemplating on changing the media. What do you think of the bacti-twist media? It claims to be a bio and michanical filter all in one.
    Thank you!

    I don’t understand, so it drain the water from the pond to clean it then it goes back to the pond ? Can you do a video on how it works? I’m sorry I’m totally brand new with this.

    Hi, Thanks for the informative video. I am planning on setting up a 1000g koi pond. Which filters would you recommend? Goplus or oase? Do you think the smaller oase 5000 is enough for my pond? Thanks

    • @CharlotteKoiClub
      @CharlotteKoiClub  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Thanks for asking the questions. And congrats to having a new pond. The answer to that depends on how many koi and how big are you going to keep. Your pond's demand should determine how much filtration you need. And then on top of that what is your expectation on how good the water is like and what is your budget.
      If you are going to have quite a load of fish and want to have very good result, then I would recommend going with the the ultima II (your size of pond) + UV light + OASE (as last polisher/additional bio).
      If you have very light population, then either goplus or OASE alone could work for you. But if you have a little more and only can chose one, I would recommend Ultima II. The reason is because it is 1. sturdy quality and 2. does both mechanical and bio 3. easiest+dependable backwash.
      Goplus in someway is a smaller version and lesser make (hence the lower price). If you dont like Unltima II, alternatively, I would say OASE+ UV light, if in the future green water becomes a problem. Add UV light to any of these three filters if green water becomes a problem.

    @Charlotte Koi Club how many gallons is your pond? Why did you decide to switch from the oase biosmart filter to the Ultima II?

    • @CharlotteKoiClub
      @CharlotteKoiClub  3 роки тому +1

      4000 gal. The reason we switch was because we had our pond expanded to 4000 gal. And at the sane time the whole system was re-designed a little. Therefore oase really doesnt fit in the new system anymore. Plus the larger pond size, just one oase wouldn’t be enough for the size and number of fish.

    I have an ultimate ll but don't think I bought a big enough one, i may up size mine.

    • @CharlotteKoiClub
      @CharlotteKoiClub  Рік тому +1

      So if you have a pre-filter it would be more efficient and effective. And if you do, then size woulndt matter as much. The larger size helps you accumulate larger amount of junk for longer time but best practice is to back wash regularly like every couple days.

    • @lonivogler6449
      @lonivogler6449 Рік тому

      @Charlotte Koi Club thank you for your response. I do have a separate multi bay pre-filter (it has its own submersible pump). I do clean the strainer basket daily and backwash every two to 3 days. There is something wrong with the system my waterfall outfit is weaker and there's just more detriment in the pond open up the motor housing on the pub verified that there was nothing in the impeller tomorrow I will break down the filter maybe one of the Octopus arms isn't sitting right?

    What the point of bio balls if the uv light is just gonna kill the beneficial bacteria? Anyone?

    • @CharlotteKoiClub
      @CharlotteKoiClub  2 роки тому +2

      UV lights kill free floating bacterias but the primary function is to kill single cell algae which usually floats.
      Good bacterias mostly attach to something such as bio balls.
      While UV can maybe kill a very little bit of good bacteria, the most optimal for the entire pond is to have Uv that kills bad stuff and have bio balls that house good stuff.

    One thing none of the filter videos talk about is how do the filters get the beneficial bacteria? Is there something that needs to be added? some type of chemical or powder? Or does the bacteria grow by itself?

    • @CharlotteKoiClub
      @CharlotteKoiClub  Рік тому

      shoet answer is it grows itself naturally through 2-3mths period if from scratch.

      @@CharlotteKoiClub Thank you for the reply. I saw another video about a guy building his own filter but he added beneficial bacteria. I am guessing you can do it both ways

    Hi I have a 12000 gallon koi pond. Which filter do you recommend?

    • @CharlotteKoiClub
      @CharlotteKoiClub  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Larry, it depends a little bit on your budget and the set up you currently have. I would recommend a RDF (profidrum combio 30 or 50) for mechanical filtering because they just do an excellent job. And a bakki shower for bio filtering.
      Alternatively, a sieve as a pre-filter plus a pressurized filter like ultima II is a good choice too. If you do go this way, it is certainly important to have a pre-filter and go bigger in your size of filter (go bigger than 12k from what they designed). And make sure you have high KH in your pond ( pressurized filter needs higher KH to function properly for bio).
      For 12k pond I would try the better quality filters for sure. One is that better filter can properly function and serve you better. Another is that for that size of pond you want it to be right; otherwise it will be more expensive to fix it later.

      I have a 3500 gallon pond. I want the water to be very clear. I was thinking of the 4000 but I didn’t know I could get a bigger size.
