IMPORTANT TIP if you're having issues reconnecting an iPhone to the Mac! After you connect the iPhone and want to use the phone again tap "Pause" and not "Disconnect" on the iPhone. This will allow you to go back to using it as a camera. If you click disconnect, you'll need to restart the Mac in order to reconnect...Hopefully Apple resolves this soon.
It's nice, but I genuinely don't mind the 1080p webcam on the newer MacBooks. Certainly better than previous iterations and for me, perfectly fine for calls.
Awesome review! Comparing the most common webcams really drives the point home. I daily an M1 MacBook Air but use a Pixel (blasphemy I know) and ironically have been using it as a wireless webcam for years with Droid Cam, Iriun, OBS or similar software. This is no doubt more elegant though.
Firstly, thank you for all this info! I have an IPhone 13 and a Macbook Air. I'd like to start making reels for YT and would prefer to have two cameras so I may have A and B rolls to use for editing. Could you please point me in the right direction of which device has better recording between the two and if I should buy a webcam to use with one or the other device (whichever one is recommended). Also, how do I get A and B rolls of the same quality? I tried recording with the built-in cameras of my IPhone and Macbook, and when I edited using both rolls you can clearly see the difference in imaging as to which is the IPhone and which is the Mac. Once I decide on which device to use, do I buy two webcams to attach to it so I can get the dual rolls I need? Any and all info is greatly appreciated!
great video.. thanks.. one query.. i am connecting my iphone 12 pro max to my m1 and i dont see video effects on my m1 for my iphone.. so i am unable to use center stage or potrait and stuff.. any idea why?
Can anyone answer, should you put on airplane mode when you do this? Will it still work? I just don't want texts/calls during important meeting disrupting..
Can you tell me if I can use 2 iPhone cameras on Mac at the same time. Eg if I wanted to use 1 camera front of car and another on rear of the car off 2 iPhones will that work? Same account same wifi etc as usual.
You helped me solve a problem by realizing that the wifi for BOTH the iPhone and the Mac I'm connecting to with the continuity camera need to be enabled. Good learning experience. Thank you!
You didnt show us how to set it up, the only option I have is EOS Webcam Utility, the iphone isnt coming up with same wifi, icloud and continutity settings done. It doesnt just work as you make out?
well I guess since this video is 2 years old, it's out of date.. trying to do this with either my iPad or my iPhone, as my Mac doesn't have a camera. all the settings on devices are set like you explain. but on FaceTime it says, connect device. all devices are on the same network and iCloud account. and the video setting is on automatic.
Man this is frustrating. I've gone through all of the steps and still cannot get my mac to recognize my iPhone. Do you have to restart the mac or phone?
What a helpful and straight forward video. Just tested it with my iPhone 13 Pro Max and it works perfectly. And to think I was worried about getting some proper lighting to start my channel, where in actual fact, for the time being the studio lighting feature appears awesome - at least in my room it does.
maybe a sonoma change, but 'video effects' are now accessed by clicking the facetime green icon and not the control center... also not obvious - zoom control is on the small image view itself. not your finest ux, apple.
Is that with any iPhone as long as it has the upgraded OS? Or, what versions of iPhone hardware would be needed. The follow feature is interesting. I haven't tried it yet but I'm guessing there are some hardware limitations on older models.
Using Continuity Camera requires an iPhone XR or iPhone 11 or newer with iOS 16 or later and a computer running macOS Ventura (version 13) or later. Both devices must be signed into the same Apple ID and also have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on.
Let me know when they add a feature that lets you use your iPhone as a secondary angle camera!!! Now THAT would be cool. I don't like the mic on my iPhone X, so I wouldn't choose this feature. Only if I had an added external mic.... I do have one for my laptop, but not for my iPhone. Only so helpful for this lady. You may get a clearer image, but ..... I got excited for a bit thinking it was pairing up as a secondary angle. Waaa waaaa....
I plan on using my iPhone 14 Pro as a webcam with my M2 Mac Mini, but I can't seem to find a MagSafe clip for a 32" monitor. I know I can get a retractable stand, but I prefer the sleekness of a clip that can stay in place without cluttering my desk. Any tips for this setup would be much appreciated!
Excellent video, Justin. Upgraded to Ventura and ordered the Belkin mount today. Right now, I use Camo Studio with my iPhone for Zoom webinars and meetings and will need to check how the Continuity camera compares. I wish it had a zoom function...but maybe Apple will offer that in an update soon. BTW, you have a new subscriber.
My MacBook Pro only detects my Iphone when it is plugged into the laptop with the USA cable. I have followed all the steps and nothing works. It sucks!
camera not showing on Mac mini .... Ventura 13.2.1, iOS 16.5. and has never worked... tried restarting, switching on / off bt/wifi .. never shoed up on Mac mini
Can cnet talk about some of the iphone 14 pro camera issue? Someone I know upgraded to iOS 16.1 but their when doing video call with Whatsapp still have focusing issue. Maybe we should bring this issue up, and investigate how widespread it is, so Apple can pay attention and fix it.
I updated my M1 mac pro to Ventura and I use iPhone x Max but somehow I can't connect both them and use the continuity camera. I tried every trick and it only works when I turn off and on either device and then connect but say if I want to use again after I disconnect I can't. What could be the problem?
I had this issue too, here's the fix. After you connect the iPhone and then want to use the phone again be sure to tap "Pause" and not "Disconnect" on the phone. This will allow you to go back after. Currently, have no idea how to get it connected again without a restart haha, so don't disconnect.
@@Justin_tech Try going into Settings on your iPhone and toggling the Continuity Camera switch off then on. It should reset without you having to restart your computer. Then sleep your phone and try to connect to it on your Mac. It should start right up.
I've seen a few of these vids when trying to find a mount but this is the best demo, very informative thank you! btw. what's the name of the first track in the background, it's catchy!
Hello, I would like to ask you about a use of this feature that I cannot find anywhere. For example, I wonder how high quality it would be to broadcast live with an iPhone camera by focusing the rear camera on the classroom board from a distance of three or four meters, rather than using a short-range webcam while sitting at a desk. I currently have the SONY A6500 model, which broadcasts in 4K resolution, but I wonder whether it will provide the same image and processing performance compared to the newly released iPhone 15 Pro Max. I would be very happy if you share your opinions. Thanks in advance.

I pressed disconnect and now i’m unable to use it
You have to plug it in to the Mac and allow it to trust at the prompt.
hopefully they also ad the zoom in and zoom out feature to the regular camera.
This is really bad. I won´t be restarting my computer every time I wish to use the iPhone as a Webcam.
same what do I do

3:30 You know you can click 'HD' in the video settings you were in before so that it doesn't compress right?
Learned how to do it in first 3mins of vid
Great easy vid! Thansk
Nice video! My Mac Mini isn’t detecting my iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone is running on IOS 16 and Mac mini is on Ventura 13. Any suggestions?

try connecting your iphone to your mac mini with a cable, it should instantly work. At least that worked for me
@@AngelGarza10 thanks! That’s what I ended up doing. It definitely worked.
Even as an Android fan, I gotta admit this is pretty cool
Try droidcam on Android :)
Just tried it out and wow, so much better.
Yay!
It's nice, but I genuinely don't mind the 1080p webcam on the newer MacBooks. Certainly better than previous iterations and for me, perfectly fine for calls.
Yes Unless you use external monitors only and don't use your Mac much it's really nice.
Looking to use the continuity camera for a video podcast. Can I use an external mic when using the continuity camera?
How do you record your videos?
So what do you do if the camera does not show in the drop down list as an option?
That’s what I’m wondering
I connected my phone just fine to the Mac and the quality is much better thank you. Does desk view also work the same on UA-cam live?
1. As basic UA-cam channel content provider, I’m looking to upgrade my production values.
2. Thank you for this excellent information! 👍
Right! This makes for such an easy way to shoot with a strong camera. Glad I could help!
It would be nice if you showed us how to set up the iphone camera on the Mac
click the facetime green icon to see camera controls... not obvious but zoom is on the small image view itself
Can I use this process for an app like OBS ?
To record or play my dj sets live with good quality video ?
Please help

Worked Perfectly!!! Thank you!!
does it have to be in landscape to start the camera?
This is brilliant. Thank you for sharing! Really appreciated!
You got it!
This is fantastic! Will setup this week for some UA-cam Ai tutorials
the video effect option didn't show up on my control center! How do i resolve the issue?
I believe these are in a different place now. The options are where the green camera icon is now and not under control centre.
you just saved me $300, thanks!

did you find an answer? same question
Is there a way to not have the portrait camera be so zoomed in when using Continuity?
Same question. When I used it on the OBS, the camera only capture landscape angle. Tried to rotate iPhone but still no work.
iPhone 14 pro, apple leather case required to be removed? The camera bump guard looks like it wouldn't allow the mount to sit flush.
Can anyone answer, should you put on airplane mode when you do this? Will it still work? I just don't want texts/calls during important meeting disrupting..
Will this work with my ipad?
Can I use my iPhone as a webcam on any external monitor? Sometimes I use clamshell mode but gets lazy to get my when zoom meeting is needed.
Can I use this new feature with Quicktime Player?
YES! This is so cool because you can film yourself. SOOOO good. I should have mentioned this!!

Could your iPhone still be charged using Apple MagSafe Charger wireless with the MagSafe mount on?
Thank you Justin this was so helpful :)
Am I able to use an iphone 11? What about Big Sur 11.7.10? Thank you!

click the facetime green icon to see camera controls... not obvious but zoom is on the small image view itself

The warped desktop view will have to be improved before I’ll use it. It’s too distracting.
Yea its very primitive, but could be useful for quick things like showing my mom how to do something on her Apple Watch lol

Why do put it off to the side???? Shouldn’t the camera lenses be in the center ?
Think he’s centring it with the mount by mistake when he should be centring it with the camera.

when I turn my iPhone XS 90˚ it switches to the 2x camera, thus zooming in. But, it isn't something you can do remotely.
