I agree. Episodic is the only way to go for Star Trek
I think you are a little critical on Lower Decks. I love the overarching plot lines and the overall format of the show. I think Tendi will come back in episode 4 or 5. We will see her on Orion, but she won't come back until episode 4 or 5.
The character leaving is another way to try to hook people in to see the next season. “I’ve gotta watch to see how they get Tendi back”.
that's your opinion, i don't care about the characters, that leave and the return, In Tom Clancy's Op center series, one of the team will die, so you star to bet who would die in the next boolk. that go, and the ending of every season also worked for me.
It wasn’t rushed. The development was explained in a Paramount + interview to Robert Duncan McNeil. I did like the way they did it. Having Locarno as a surprise villain was brilliant!!
The show’s staff are the ones doing the work. It’s their vision and I’m ok with that. They don’t need to listen to anybody. And with strikes popping up, better to have material ready to go than to wait to see what people think about it!!
Plus the question to ask is what is written for season 5 the final draft or an early draft??? It would make sense to put you ideas for season 5 on paper before the end of season 4 to have them written down then you take that 1st draft and play with it after the season 4 finale to adjust what needs adjusting.
Nah, it did land
It may already be written but with the actors strike nobody has done there lines. And just because it’s written doesn’t mean they can’t do rewrites. Season 5 won’t come out till late August 2024 at the earliest so plenty of time for rewrites and adjustments.
Ten was the best of the season by far. Your gripe about timing is the problem with 10 episodes seasons as you can’t really build as much complicated thing in 10 episodes.
is ds9/voy the last series that really did a season long arc well? i also really didn't like any of the disco arces but i think ld is doing well with it. i do also think that having lecarno as the baddy seemingly out of nowhere was...odd. either way, i LOVE this series and cant get enough. give me all the boims and team! thanks WDIM for all your great content! i love it too! ha
This was actually the first just ok season of Lower Decks. The overarching plot point is fine they’ve done it well before but this season it wasn’t as good a journey getting to the resolution. I think part of it was making the overarching plot point too in your face in almost every episode. If the plot point is used more subtlety and not in such a “here’s the season long plot point” way it would be ok. The overarching story should be in the background for most of the season so you get good stories and hints here and there. Here it seemed like the overarching story was in the foreground and the stories were clumsily made to fit in.
I thought the 4th Season was awesome ! Especially Episode 10. That whole Scene with "Hey he looks like Tom Paris, and he has the same face" that made me laugh. There were so many easter eggs in there, it was great. The Star Trek II references, and the fact that they now have another Genesis Planet for the 5th season to work with. Will they do another ST III reference for it, or not ? Also the fact that they all got promoted to LT. JG was good. It's about time. The use of the Captain's yacht was cool too.

Remember every time Nicks character shows up on screen, Paramount has to pay those original writers from TNG. Which is why Robert’s character was named Tom on VOY. So that’s probably why LD did not reveal Nick sooner.
It was a good season overall. It’s a rare thing for a series to consistently have good season, including the first season. lol TNG was trash the first season.
Dawn mentioned on The Ready Room she has already done some voice work for S5. And that show usually is recorded months in advance
I looked into this when I was doing a breakdown video after he first showed up, and I am not sure this is true. Jeri Taylor created both the Nicholas Locarno and Tom Paris characters. So I am not sure why it would be easier to use one over the other. But, I did think the same thing before I did my research.
every review has said that this was the bext season and i agree..you are the onky negative review and i would love to find out further why..the finale was brilliant (and amazing considering its only a half hour show)..mariner's arc has finally come to jts conclusion, as well as a new beginning..boimler proved his self worth and command skills..t'lyn is now one of them..freeman is still a badass..and tendi is griwing up...but everyone has their own opinion..i wish you well..peace..

"To each their own".... I didn't necessarily say that it was a bad season, just that I didn't like how it progressed into the reveal of the main antagonist. And I do not think that Mariner's arc was handled well. One thing that I cut from my podcast because I didn't want to sound too negative (guess that didn't work) was that it makes Mariners relationship with the other 3 Lower Deckers not as important when you have her admit to a stranger (Klingon in the 9th ep) what her problems are and then help her solve them. Why would they do that? To me, it makes Mariners relationship with the other three, which is the core of the series, less important. If Mariner comes to these realizations away from them and instead confides in an old Ferengi friend and a Klingon she just met it diminishes the importance of them together. It's like if Boimler came back from serving on the Titan and was all confident. It means more to see Boimler progress thanks to the other main characters and not because he accomplished something off screen. I can't help but see this, as well as the use of Locarno as a mistake. But that is not to say there were not some very strong episodes during this season.
I expect she’ll be gone around half the season or more.
arc based story telling DS9 style episodic is boring
