I remember when I was about 6, I saw this commercial and wanted one so bad so I called the phone number and asked if I could talk to Marvin so he could give me one. The operator laughed and hung up.
This commercial mesmerized me as a kid. I asked for this toy constantly in the 90s and my parents always said “if it’s only on tv and not in stores it’s probably a scam.” I saw a salesman literally selling them at a travel rest stop and used my own allowance, I don’t even remember playing with it lol. I completely see my parents point now, this thing should be $5-$10. $20 in 1997 is $35 now, $46 with shipping!!
I'm 34 years old and watched this commercial at least 12 times a day as a kid. I forgot what it was called until I came across this video, and almost 20 years later, I'm finally ready to order. 😂😂😂
I made my mom order this as a kid! i thought i could be like the little girls in the commercial and use it in the car and i forgot it for a few hours and it completely melted. My dreams were destroyed.
I got this for Christmas when I was a kid. I have been looking for this commercial for YEARS, but I forgot what the name of this toy was until I stumbled upon this commercial on an old VHS.
Me and my brother actually got our parents to order Marvin's Magic Drawing Board through sheer persistence. Within a few moments of its arrival (which of course took four to six weeks in 1999) we regretted the effort spent on acquiring it. Was a great learning moment lol.
I wanted this so bad, I'd beg every time the commercial aired. My parents got me a discount one at Walgreens and I only got to use it a couple of times before our dog shat on it and it went in the trash. My drawings never quite looked like these lol
I actually wanted this badly as a kid back then. Thank God I never actually got it because from what I read about these things, they were awful. Making a mark on it was really tough and if it rips, the gel leaks out, leaving a huge mess. What a scam!
Finally found this commercial! All I kept getting was Rainbow Art but I knew there was some other art board commercial I remembered as a kid. Always wanted this but never had it!
I remember I had a dream that I somehow had this product as a 6 year old after a few weeks of seeing this commercial. I was pretty bummed to wake up to go downstairs and not find it anywhere 😔
I love this thing! I still have it and I use it every so often. What's with all you people saying it's crap and doesn't work?! You just have to have fun with it and do the best you can!!
Notice all the drawings were done by an adult. Going by the comments from people that had this as kids, apparently it didnt work that well and broke easily.
When I was a kid I've seen this commercial on TV a lot. And then one day I got one and it turned out to be useless after doodling on it that one time. Boy was my mom and I ripped off.
i begged my parents for this, they bought it for me, and it didn't work. it was really tough to actually draw on. i don't remember what happened to the pens though, i might still have them somewhere lol
I remember this thing and NEEDING to have it. I was a piece of crap though. There was a rainbow background with black goop all over it and you attempted to move this "goop" around with a stick. I feel bad that my parents wasted money on this lol Although I really loved those markers. Those were pretty awesome :P
It's true--it's absolutely TERRIBLE. My mother ordered one for me and one for my brother. Forty unfortunate dollars went to that Marvin on that fateful day... Basically you smear the black goo around. The goo covers a rainbow design, so when you get rid of the goo, the colors show. They might as well have filled the thing with milk rather than goo. It wouldn't have made it any more difficult. I wish I could meet this so-called "Marvin" along with all his other disappointed customers.
@cnballj2 except that you could probably get similar sorts of markers for far cheaper from craft stores. I believe it was faber castel that made a range of markers that did a simlar sort of thing.
Yup, had two of these. They were terrible. It was just loose pack black gel that wouldn't hold when you swiped. I think my mom was more disappointed than us kids.
@superalphabetsoup I kinda liked it as a kid but yeah, its exactly what you said it is. on the ad it makes drawing on the board look smoth and effortless ,when I had to use it I had to go over again and again to make it look right.
I looked everywhere to remember what this was called!! I used to have one as a kid! I remember I went looking for it one day and my Grandma said she threw it out because it broke and this black inky stuff was coming out of it... I was so sad :C
So THAT'S where I got my old (now dried-up) color-changing pens from. I totally forgot I had this. I can't really remember what happened to it. But something tells me that at one point, I think I tried to see what made it so "magic" and opened it up with scissors...if not that, then my mom probably threw it away, along with the rest of my old toys that "mysteriously disappeared" without me knowing :P
HOW DID THEY MAKE IT SEEM TO WORK IN THE COMMERCIAL. I remember I got this the same Christmas I got Pokemon Yellow. Biggest waste of money my parents finally caved for.
Mine still works like it's supposed too (the rest of you guys must have been really rough on your toys), but it was never as much fun as this makes it seem...
I actually wanted 1 when I was a kid... Now I'm relieved that I didn't get it when I saw the comments... Otherwise, little me would've been frustrated and punctured the whole board and then leave a mess on the living room carpet ^>^;
Hahahahahaha oh childhood! I just remembered these, and I'm so happy to k ow that I wasn't the only disappointed child when I actually got one. Worst toy ever, but the commercial made it look so wonderful
I begged my parents for this as a kid and my dad insisted it was a piece of garbage and said “look how hard they have to press down for it to work” and I took his word for it. All these years later I wonder if it actually worked and based on these comments it looks like my dad was right!
Yeah I got this when I was like 8 or something. Such a disappointment. I tried to recreate every one of the pictures in the infomercial and they looked totally crappy.
i remember when i got it, i was so in love with it, but the day my mom got it for me as a present i tried it, it was CRAP i tried hard to draw on it and guess what... NO RAINBOWS!
I was so tempted to buy this after seeing it at the Toys R Us. but after the demo girl didn't let me use it I am glad I didn't. There had to be a reason why she wouldn't let me try it. Obviously not as easy as it looks
I am currently 22, obvious older than 18. So, I wonder what would happen if I tried dialing the 800 number and placing an order for this today. Would it be even possible to accomplish?
Back before the internet was an everyday necessity, class action lawsuits against false advertising were a lot harder to organize and shit like this was way easier to get away with.
I was always so amazed by the cat's bowtie!
Same here. Watching this video really brought back memories.
Haha me too! I’d attempt it with chalk
Same
OMG im not the only one!!! That twist blew my mind
Same lol thats the part that always stuck out to me
I remember when I was about 6, I saw this commercial and wanted one so bad so I called the phone number and asked if I could talk to Marvin so he could give me one. The operator laughed and hung up.
Well...at least the operator didn't tell you sneak into your parents' room and take your mom's credit card.
@@ElBombastico883 That's oddly specific. You got a story behind that one?
@@graythaprince who doesn’t have a story like that?
Bruh that is sad asf
Fk that operator
@@SamuraiSilhouette Me. Lmao

You didn't miss much. The thing was a piece of crap. Didn't work as shown.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Traumatic!!

exact same 😂 it was trash
I wanted this so bad, I'd beg every time the commercial aired. My parents got me a discount one at Walgreens and I only got to use it a couple of times before our dog shat on it and it went in the trash. My drawings never quite looked like these lol
Your dog wanted to try it, too 😂 I bet his ‘drawing’ didn’t look quite like Marks, either
Those people are great drawers.
Looks awesome, thank you for the video.
I actually wanted this badly as a kid back then. Thank God I never actually got it because from what I read about these things, they were awful. Making a mark on it was really tough and if it rips, the gel leaks out, leaving a huge mess. What a scam!
yeah my brother had one they dont work at all
fastbreak333 I remember my aunt bought one for my cousin. When she wanted her money back the number was mysteriously disconnected.
I always wanted one
I begged my parents for one and when I finally got it, it was crap. I use to call it 'Marvin's magic junky board' because it was just god awful.
My sisters and I had one each. We loved them. We cut one open 😂
Finally found this commercial! All I kept getting was Rainbow Art but I knew there was some other art board commercial I remembered as a kid. Always wanted this but never had it!
I swear this and the zoo books commercial was on everytime.
This was one of my favorite Christmas gifts I got as a child. This brings back a lot of fun memories ! Thank you for posting this! 🙂
OMG i had this and that rainbow art thing when i was a kid!!
I remember my Grandparents got me one when i was young cause I wanted it so bad
OH MY GOD I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS! Just didn't know what it was called. But I wanted it soooo bad when I was 5.
I always wanted this!
I remember I had a dream that I somehow had this product as a 6 year old after a few weeks of seeing this commercial. I was pretty bummed to wake up to go downstairs and not find it anywhere 😔
That’s seriously such a bummer even as an adult. Feeling this as a kid is tragic lol
I love this thing! I still have it and I use it every so often. What's with all you people saying it's crap and doesn't work?! You just have to have fun with it and do the best you can!!
We didn’t need much to have fun in the 90’s, did we guys?
the original "Tablet"
i had this toy when i was a little kid, i thought it was the best thing ever invented. i miss the 90s.
the original "Tablet", this thing looked so cool watching it on TV as a little kid
500th like! Loved watching this commercial as a kid!

i didnt know CGI existed back when this commercial was made.

I wanted so long for it too until we moved.
@cnballj2
except that you could probably get similar sorts of markers for far cheaper from craft stores. I believe it was faber castel that made a range of markers that did a simlar sort of thing.
this product stands out as the greatest disappointment of my childhood..
Yup, had two of these. They were terrible. It was just loose pack black gel that wouldn't hold when you swiped. I think my mom was more disappointed than us kids.
i remember getting one of these when i was 7 years old. was so excited.

I'm willing to bet that your grandma got curious about how it worked and accidentally punctured the screen.
I had this and it didnt work as well as it did in the commercial. If you didnt get one do not fret, there was nothing missed.
I wanted one of these when I was a kid.
This was my favorite comercial when I was a kid. It looked like magic! What a disappointment it turned out to be.
I remember this commercial!
My cousins had this and my aunt said it’s not all it’s cracked up to be

@AudiGal09 buuut i still use the magic markers that came with it. so overall, it was wasn't so bad.
I did that all the time. I even opened my etch-a-sketch.
Purchase a magnadoodle, much more fun.
Childhood memories. What happened to these commercials? Lol
UA-cam reviews became a thing.
I always wanted these lol
HOW DID THEY MAKE IT SEEM TO WORK IN THE COMMERCIAL. I remember I got this the same Christmas I got Pokemon Yellow. Biggest waste of money my parents finally caved for.
Nah pokemon yellow is goated

yeah that didn't work. i cried. but the magic markers that came with it were awesome. i think i still have them. like, 10 years later.
I had this thing, I kinda miss it too
called that number...it's a telemarketing company now :(
i wanted one so badly! lol
I had that as a kid didn't work as shown at all. Needless to say, I was pissed.
I actually wanted 1 when I was a kid... Now I'm relieved that I didn't get it when I saw the comments... Otherwise, little me would've been frustrated and punctured the whole board and then leave a mess on the living room carpet ^>^;
I wanted one of these SOOOO BAD when I was little. I got one in the christmas of 2000 I believe. FUCKING RIPOFF.
It worked pretty good for me. I used it as scratch paper, I have yet to find something better.
I actually used to own this toy as a child
Did it work as advertised
Believe it or not yes
It’s meh it’s just a rainbow outline when you draw but it caught my attention as a young child
It's always $19.95 for these infomercials.
Hahahahahaha oh childhood! I just remembered these, and I'm so happy to k ow that I wasn't the only disappointed child when I actually got one. Worst toy ever, but the commercial made it look so wonderful
Those crayons are broken in half and they are missing a half of a part of left or right side of those broken crayons
i got this when i was a kid. shit didnt work like how they claimed, i was fucking pissed. even the markers didnt work right
I don't know who this marvin guy is, but he must be the devil advertising such a shitty product to gullible little kids- and I was one of them!
Me 2!!!
i was like 6 when it was on =D
Those pens are still in my parents office drawer, but I don't remember ever having the board 🤔 I remember that cats bowtie tho!
I wanted one so bad but i didn’t know how to draw
I wanted that.
I wanted one of these when I was around 12 or 13. Glad I didnt get one seeing it was bad and all lol!
I got that for my 8th birthday, it was a shame. When you draw it erases, and when erase it draws. WTF
They forgot to mention you had to have talent to use it.
I begged my parents for this as a kid and my dad insisted it was a piece of garbage and said “look how hard they have to press down for it to work” and I took his word for it. All these years later I wonder if it actually worked and based on these comments it looks like my dad was right!
Remember this commercial. Like if it was yesterday I miss my childhood 😢
Yeah I got this when I was like 8 or something. Such a disappointment. I tried to recreate every one of the pictures in the infomercial and they looked totally crappy.
Mannn I forgot about these 😩the memories cut deep 😩
i remember when i got it, i was so in love with it, but the day my mom got it for me as a present i tried it, it was CRAP i tried hard to draw on it and guess what... NO RAINBOWS!
I had this and it was so fucking hard to draw lmaooo
I used to have one of these. It was crap. Didn't work like the commercial said it did.
Umm...it wasn't very mess-free for me...or for my brother...
maybe he meant :43 - :45
Because that guy made it look SO easy, but it wasn't.... it wasn't.
I was so tempted to buy this after seeing it at the Toys R Us. but after the demo girl didn't let me use it I am glad I didn't. There had to be a reason why she wouldn't let me try it. Obviously not as easy as it looks
Wonder what the other child actors are up to today. Especially Mia
the only good thing about marvin's Magic Drawing Board was the markers that came with it that changed colors..
I am currently 22, obvious older than 18. So, I wonder what would happen if I tried dialing the 800 number and placing an order for this today. Would it be even possible to accomplish?
No

I was fine until the cat's bowtie happened; I always wanted to do that as well.
*nostalgia seizure*
@mybananaslippers me too! :D
I had one when I was four or five, and it worked... but not, you know, well... :S
I got this for I think it was my 8th or 9th birthday and it sucked
Had this when I was a kid. Definitely did not work as advertised.
Back before the internet was an everyday necessity, class action lawsuits against false advertising were a lot harder to organize and shit like this was way easier to get away with.
Now that I am an adult Ima get if it still exists 🤣
Googled "90s black drawing thing rainbow"
I googled "magic art board 90s toy." Nice.
ahahahhahhaha the comments ohgawd
had this. didnt work
So... who the HELL is Marvin???
at least the pens worked...
CE!
i wanted the shit out of this thing
