Sears Air Conditioner Commercial

- Here it is folks, the commercial you've always remembered but never had proof of: the Air Conditioning commercial aired by Sears in the 90s. After exhaustive research and countless hours of going through old videos, I found it.

The dialogue is so open for interpretation, I feel like someone could do four different types of dramatic readings of this commercial.
This man is cultured
I would really want to see a 1940's version of this!
Indeed
@@Asagith idk, I feel like a supervillain x politician version would be better.
😂😂
I think the reason Sears is going out of business is because for over a decade they thought their primary demographic for central air conditioners was 6-15 year olds watching cartoon reruns while on summer vacation.
Literally laughed out loud!
That’s probably had to do with it
lmaoooo
Probably cause they know kids will never shut up about the things they want, putting the pressure on the parents.
man that comment hit the nail on the head right there
The guy's face lights up when he realizes he has an opportunity to be a hero in this situation. "I'll call now," he says reassuringly. Finally someone depends on him for something (his wife can't call sears herself for some unaddressed reason). His life has meaning now. Cool.
This is the pre strong independent women era. lol
+Herbivore 710 the good old days
Herbivore 710 that never existed
I read this with the Nostalgia Critic's voice in my head.
+Herbivore 710 - Independent Women by Destiny's Child was released around that time. They were already promoting that women are independent. This woman was just lazy.
It’s such a bizarre feeling when you recall something that apparently lay dormant in your brain for 24 years.
It's more like he was already going to and he was mocking her false dominance.
But also amazing 😂😂
Exactly !
I am experiencing this right now
Same, had to dust off those neurons
This commericial was a bigger part of my childhood than the shows I was trying to watch when this commerical was playing.
+Nigel's Pad This is the comment I came here for. We share the same experience.
lmao. This commercial, the nickelodeon magazine commercial, and that stupid learn french from fuzzy commercial were on literally every commercial break.
you mean the fucking Nickelodeon Magazine for Kids commercial with the kid mowing the letters into the lawn? Truth be told, I always really did want one of those magazines
+KvltKommando - My old elementary school was subscribed to Nickelodeon magazines. I was disappointed to discover they were "meh" at best.
I love you all
1990: "And you know Sears will be there to back it up"
2019: umm
lmaoooo
you mean 2000?
Well to be fair, they did make it through the warranty period.
1990? I dunno, this commercial feels very specifically 1996 to me for some reason. It just screams 1996.
Kevin Perdew 😂😂😂 good one
My favourite part is the low quality sound hissing noise
this is called VHS formatting
My favorite was the thumbs up to the wife, 'Yeah, I got this shit. It's going to be chilly up in this bitch.'
Leo Angelo it's the air conditioning! 😂
That hiss was just the background noise of the early 2ks
Brings back the memories
My favourite part of this commercial was when it came on again right after another commercial came after it
That was the first crack in my childhood naivete; it provided proof that adults didn't always have their shit together.
It's a rare occurrence, but I've seen literally the same ad play twice in a row before.
I'm so glad I don't deal with ad breaks anymore.
Thumbs up if you saw this commercial non stop on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon back in the day.
What if I thumbs down
👍👍👍 I always remember this commercial my childhood days
Nickelodeon FTW
"...another scorcher!....cool!" X2000 lol
My girls memorized the couples lines and still recite it to this day. 😂
“Another scorcher!”
“C O O L”
You know a dad definitely wrote this commercial
Watching this now: "Oh hey, nostalgia!"
Watching this circa 1999-2001: *screaming in agony*
Instead of calling Sears for a new air conditioner, Mr. Fuck Boy decides to order twelve fascinating issues of Zoobooks for $19.95 in hopes of scoring the bonus elephant issue, a colorful collection of animal stickers, and the tiger poster.
10 minutes later and I am still trying to catch my breath because I'm laughing so hard.
I can scarcely recall a comment that made me laugh harder than this and yet you only have 30 legs. How little justice there is in this world.
I knew I should've got Darrin's dance grooves!
😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆 LMFAO
how you gonna read all those zoobooks without your Hooked On Phonics box set
They need to make a documentary about the making of this commercial, and the effect it has had on an entire generation of people's childhoods.
…I’ll call now.
Childhoods? It stands out to me only because my dad HATED it.
Let's start a Go Fund Me. The world needs to know
@@Hakajin We saw a commercial. He saw his cruel reality reflected back at him

Hello to everyone that got recommended this after ProZD's four dramatic reinterpretations of this commercial :)
Yes
Glad we're all here for the same reason

Normal Bear This was recommended by UA-cam, so I gave it a watch. Didn't realize what this was until "ill call now". Blew my mind.
+iOzznialt nerd
haven't heard it in Sears
My mom always swooned whenever the guy would say that. Pretty sure she had a major league crush on him.
Every time someone complains about how hot it is in the house, I quote this commercial. It'll probably stick with me until I die from a scorcher
I used to fan myself with the fridge door when I was a kid because of this commercial

Oh man. They aired the hell out of this.
Nicholas Zynko it was an air conditioner commercial
I so totally remember this commercial. I considered looking it up before I had to go out of town for a few days.
Haha so true !!!
“Aired” lmao marvelous
lol aired
how was this single commercial so damn ubiquitous that every one of us remembers every line. it was on every channel that i watched in the 90s. it was on fucking nickelodeon. what does a fucking 8-year-old want with an air conditioner?
Their media buy must have been insane.
It was probably for the parents
reminds me of the random eerie book commercials(sometimes biblical)on channels like Disney XD
youraftermyrobotbee what anime is your avy?
i wanna say it's something from the persona video games
The UA-cam algorithm really is good. You watch a voice actor interpret the open-ended dialogue of a random unnamed '90s Sears commercial four different ways ONE TIME and suddenly UA-cam decides that '90s Sears commercials are all you want on your front page.
haha. sungwon
OMG I'm so mad at myself for not thinking this through before I looked this us. The deluge will be unending. Thanks, prozd, this is your fault
grandpa wasn't kidding, that was a shot for shot remake
I saw this on tumblr and I was like "There's no way I'll remember a Sear Air Conditioner Commercial."
It took about three seconds to start talking along with it.
I'm not the only one that found it thou tumblr!
If you watched this growing up you probably also remember “yes, that’s French they’re speaking, but these children aren’t French, they’re American.”

"Yesterday?!"
AliNotBaba yesterday you said you'd call Sears.
I'll call today!
mcabrera “you’ll call now!”
@@abehambino 🤨 😏 i’ll call now
This commercial created a hilarious game among my friends. Here's how it works: If someone ends a sentence with the word yesterday you then repeat the word back to them as a question... yesterday?.... Yesterday you said you'd call sears. They are then required to finish the conversation by responding with "I'll call today." "You''ll call now." "I'll call now."
This commercial aged particularly well.
*And you know Sears will be there to back it up.*
😓Our Sears is demolished, even the Outlet closed this year.
Sears will never be there to back it up
Even the cadence and tone of the dialogue is scorched into my brain. I don't even register the words.
Nother scorcher!
@@coolandgood1010 Cool.
I just came from the ProZD vid haha
As a kid who had Nick in the '90s as her third parent pretty much, I've memorized this damn thing.
+kablamoid96 Why did this commercial always play on Nick? I remember seeing it during the day. Like an 8-year-old doesn't have the buying power for one of these.
I can relate I had ytv here In Canada and nick it played double for me lol I wanted to jump in and hit them lol
+ljcteehee You didn't have the buying power for anything as a kid, the commercials were targeted for kids and adults who have to listen to their kids watch cartoons all day.
I was more of a CN kid myself and this commercial played all the time. xD
I mouthed the whole thing just now like no time has passed. Brainwashed forever. Sears 😂.
Literally only here so I can remember the original before I watch ProZD’s video.
“You’ll call now”. I still say that from time to time and have never got the nostalgic laugh from anyone. Thank you youtube.

I swear they aired this shit for like 10 years straight.
I'm sure the two actors were well paid for those 10 years.

This ad was a staple of my childhood in the 1990s; it aired during the "Nick in The Afternoon" Summer programming block (with "Stick Sticky") on Nickelodeon for at least 2-3 years. I can't believe this ad is so noteworthy for so many other people.
I have continuously used "another scorcher" in my vernacular since when this ad originally aired.
This continued airing well into the early 2000s on nick

Either '95 or '96, but no later than '96.

Thanks ProZD for getting UA-cam to recommend this to me in 2022
A. never saw this commercial in my life (born in 2001), and only seeing it after StephenVlog's shot for shot remake. I gotta say, wow it's accurate
I remembered it. As soon as Stephen got to the line about tomorrow being hotter, I recognized it and just started laughing my ass off.
Not only am I from 2001, I'm also not American, so this flew over my head completely. I still thought it was really funny, but hearing that it was a recreation made it so much better.

Thanks ProZD I didn't grow up in america so I didn't know about this commercial until your dramatic reinterpretation of it
Oh man, this video is gonna blow soon... Hi Prozd fans!
This just randomly got recommended to me after watching sungwon's video
Yeah very "randomly"
I've never seen this commercial before until ProZD
The dutch angles, the use of yellow lighting, the wardrobes, even the lady's hair all indicate that she cannot live another day without air conditioning.
The only other time that happens is when a Breaking Bad episode is set in Mexico.
Why is this randomly now popping up on my feed. I miss you Sears
Two different creators decided to riff on it in the last month, and thus the algorithm rumbled to life.
i just watched ProZD's dramatic reinterpretations of this ad and just some hours after that, i find this in my recommended feed, wtf

Admit it, ProZD brought you here ~
Nope. I grew up in the 90s and knew the commercial
I didnt even search for this. I watched ProZDs sketch the other and UA-cam decided I needed some context
Im here cause of Prozd acting skill
Well, what skit ProZD!
So, is Sears bankrupt because they're still paying for airing this add 750,286,183 times, or are they bankrupt because they stopped airing such a magnificent ad? I can't decide which.
Anyone here after watching ProZD

Who's here from StephenVlogs?
Rest here, traveller, you came from ProZD's video
Thank you ProZD for introducing me to this commercial
I like to imagine how ingrained this commercial would be in SungWan's mind that he had to make a video about it after 25 or so years
If someone told me as a child that I would actively seek out this commercial, one that was on multiple multiple times a day, sometimes twice in a row, I would call them a liar. But here I am.
We’d probably beat up ourselves if we could go back in time and tell our past selves trying to enjoy a Saturday of cartoons that we actually look at this with fond memories!
Im here from ProZD lol
Once I pressed play I started squealing, the memories came flooding back
The commercial that defined a generation.
This used to air after every show on Nickelodeon back in the mid-late 90's.
Because of that, this is forever engraved into my memory for the rest of my life.

Thanks, ProZD
Man, Sears milked the hell out of this commercial. I remember seeing it as early as 1993 and as late as 2002. You aren't a real 90s kid if you never saw this commercial at least 4-6 times a day!
What really makes this commercial strange is that I most often saw it on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon during the daytime on the weekends and really nowhere else. I think I know one of the main reasons Sears went out of business!
It makes sense. Kids are watching cartoons. TV’s loud. Parents in the other room hear the commercial. You don’t really need to see it, the VO gives all the info you need. And I got stupid nostalgia for it.
I was wondering WHY I saw this commercial so much as a kid. All I watched was Nickelodeon and Disney and this played constantly on those two networks. I remember it being on as early as 1997 and as late as 2003. I specifically remember it being a hot summer day in 2003 at a friend's house that didn't have central air, and distinctly remembering this commercial come on.
To be fair, it’s a genuinely pretty good commercial. At least the first 100 times.
I thought the more likely reason is more sensible: MTV and Turner (IIRC, ESPN was also part of the group, but I know Turner/MTV were) packaged their commercials together at the time, allowing big advertisers to advertise for all of them both places in one go-round.
So, if you're Sears and you're trying to advertise to people watching CNN/TNT/TBS and getting people to advertise there, and you also get free ads for MTV/Nickelodeon/Cartoon Network/ESPN? at the same time, well...
"Bitch, I'll call when I damn well please."
You'll cal now.
Get off your butt and get some food out of the freezer....make yourself useful!
Here’s me, a 32 year old man who hasn’t seen this commercial in 20 years, reciting it word for word.
Anyone here from that one proZD skit
