I was born in 1957; and you and I must have had very different friends, growing up.
During the mid-to-late 1960's, and even into the '70's, with Nixon and Watergate, the two (2) hottest standup comics were George Carlin and Mort Sahl.
Every record they came out with, flew off the shelves; and we had listening parties, weekend nights, that lasted 'til sunrise!!

He was hotseated without being prepared, yet he delivered like he had a script for it.

Hotseated? This is a National News Club dinner he was invited to host, probably where the Annual Correspondents Dinner came from. So he wrote this way before and practiced it for probably dozens of hours before performing it here.
He took most of this on tour in the early 2000's I think.

Sometimes i felt bad when i laugh at his joke because he seemed like he really serious about his rants and he has a very strong passion on what he thinks and what he stands for
