Great memories. I grew up in Port Orange and cruised that strip 1000's of times. Such great memories of my youth. The 80's in Daytona were unbelievable. I miss those days and this video brought back a lot of fun. I still live in Volusia County and still love it.
Grew up there. Left in 1982 to go into the military. In 1993 I was stationed at Ft. Meade, Maryland not long after leaving Berlin, Germany. This video is a little past my time growing up on the beach, but still looks pretty much how I remember it. Was down there a few years ago after mom passed and the whole place looks nothing like I remember it. Sad.
Thanks for uploading! I lived in Daytona Beach off and on from 1984-1990 and it's like my home away from home. Great seeing how things used to be. Must've stayed in half the motels on the beach at one time or another. Days Inn, Breakers Inn, Ramada, Casbah, Travelodge, etc.
Local from Daytona this made me god damn home sick :( Cant help but wonder if i was driving the blue car in front of you I had a chevy just like that same color!
I miss the Treasure Island Inn. Our family go to destination from the late 70s to the 90s. Remember seeing the Days Inn sign before getting to the hotel. It was right up the street. ❤️
Me and a couple friends used to stay at the Texan back in the day, Now known as The Harbour Beach Resort, during Spring break. Wow! Treasure Island back in the day now is just the skeleton waiting to see if it will become a Hotel again? Thanks. This is cool looking back what it used to be. Posting in February 2021. Also, So cool to see the " Holiday Shores " from back then in this video.
When you watch old movies and you try to pin down why they look different. Its the individual character of places. Now everything is the same - Target, Kroger, Chase Bank, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and the Marriott. Nothing looks different anymore its all the same bland microwave oatmeal you eat at home. Thats why this video feels better. Its interesting and you want to see the different places.
I hasn't changed a who lot in my eyes considering I have been a resident since 2008 and recognized almost every structure shown. Thanks for the vid really enjoyed it!
back when wjrr sucked before they bought wdiz and took over rock n roll duties.i was 23 when i moved to daytona in 1992. 1993 was a fun year . the last year of spring break. my first bike week. bars were fun, the winner's circle and the pit stop at the foot of the pier. wet willies in the mayan inn. 701 south. 601 north. the desert inn. j & w bar. rip whitey, rip shorty. rip tall tom. daytona really sucked in 2002 when i left.
great upload! I love Daytona Beach I am from New York and went with a ex girlfriend 2012 since then go there all the time with new girlfriend. whats crazy is it dont look much different thats only one bad thing locals tell me is that its been the same for 30 years or something also the rides on the boardwalk are not safe always breaking but other then that its an amazing place that is underrated
Thanks for posting this. I’m 36 and a native Floridian. 10 generations back too. I remember this year extremely vividly. Beach days

Awesome drive all the way down the strip! This was the last gasp of the great mid-century motel culture.
Maybe a little more fun,but ya I get what your saying
Nothin like cruising Daytona in the 90's and Phil Collins on the radio. Thanks for posting, brings back many fun memories of the time.

Great video. Just the cruise down A1A is all you need to remember the good times! And the last year of MTV in Daytona. End of an era.
Brought back some memories.

The sad part is about half the Motels are gone or Abandoned now.
The Ocenawalk wasn't there back then and the Hilton used to the Marriot.
