The only thing that made me choose the automatic version was the dial. I'm not a huge fan of flat sunburst dials, so I went with the Powermatic 80 with the blue waffle dial. It's an amazing watch if you recall that it only costs somewhere around 600-650€. The accuracy is very good too at +2.4 seconds per day in my case.

In fact wearing a Marathon General purpose quartz at the moment 👌. However, if I had to choose one it would be the auto with the deep forest green dial. On the wrist today is the G-Shock GA-B2100. Great comparison between these two options, weighing this up for a while and they both look great but I’m leaning more toward the quartz, more to do with the whole life cost, cheaper to buy, cheaper to service (just change the battery) plus, the quartz model is more in keeping with the original from the late 70’s. I choose the quartz because I already have a ton of automatics, including a non-PRX Powermatic 80 watch, and while I love automatics, I'm running out of winders and patience to keep them wound so I can use them anytime. The quarts looks pretty close to the Powermatic version, is a more accurate homage to the 1970s Tissot Seastar since that was a quarts as well, and to top it off, it's ready to go without any fiddling no matter how long it's been in the drawer.

You say that the Quartz Revoloution replaced a lot of automatic watches. My recollection of that time is that manual wind watches were still very much a thing back then. Especially at the lower end of the market. In 1981 went straight from a swiss manual wind to a Japanese quartz watch and was amazed by its accuracy and durability. It wasn't 'technically' more accurate it was demonstrably more accurate than any automatic or manual wind watch I have ever worn.

on my wrist i have the sternglas naos automatic, really like the clean design and for a bauhaus style watch its really great value for the money, also love the leather bracelet. but for a more classy watch i am looking to buy a prx or gentlemen

I would like to get the automatic version, but the plastic parts in the mechanism bother me. And when servicing Tissot, they replace the entire mechanism, because it’s easier, but the cost is the same as a new watch.

I knew somebody would have noticed that too. and was looking for this comment. Time travel for $300. Kudos to Tissot 👍

Currently wearing my Apple Watch, but that's because I'm at work. I would usually be wearing my Rolex OysterDate 6694 from 1969. I'm probably going to buy the quartz PRX today as well.

Currently wearing a Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 5 in rose gold and stainless, a watch that has high sentimental value.
I really want a PRX but am having trouble choosing between all the options. Kind of want the all gold but the powermatics also look good! Too many good choices

I have always associated a Swiss watch with being the ultimate in precision engineering so why on the quartz model is the stepped movement of the seconds hand is not even close to being aligned with the dial indices? If I was intent on purchasing this watch then for that reason alone I would choose the automatic version where the sweep movement avoids this annoying issue. Before anyone says “Oh that would be impossible as it’s all to do with mechanical backlash” then why do I have a quartz watch from a Japanese manufacturer which cost a fraction of the price has perfect alignment?

I would love to see a 35mm light blue powermatic with the standard dial instead of the waffle look. Aarrggh is it too much to ask for.

If you are not sure which to buy because of the price, stop waiting and go for quartz. The dial is beautiful and tasteful, as is everything else about the watch. Having it on my wrist I would almost say that I like the dark blue sunburst better than any other color variation of the PRX, quartz or automatic. One caveat, mine doesn't hit exactly on the second markers, though it's close. It is hard to notice unless you stare at the end of the second hand, but it's there.

I will always prefer the automatic especially the waffle dial 🤩 ... but for the quartz dial there is a full gold 35mm or 40mm PRX looks super classy at super affordable price compare to the Vacheron Constantin 222 🤣
