- One of the earliest videos on this channel was an attempt at filming fish down a road drain in Norwich. I was surprised to see how many were living there, amid the pollution and stagnant water. A lot has changed since then so I returned to see if any fish are still living down the drain.

Always love gazing in the streams and pools for tiddlers as I have for half a century. Only today I was staring down into a drainage channel where it disappeared under a busy road. A lot of fish fry there including chub, immature sticklebacks and a stripy possible perch juvenile, but I could've done with an underwater camera like Liam's to see more. A swimming brown 'eel' which measured 3 or 4 inches was disturbed by me poking the bottom with a stick. I soon recognised it as a horse leech and flicked it away. Plenty of life in the water even as it nears winter.
I just love it when you go out by yourself and show us an adventure. It’s fun. The area you were in at least on camera looked like a very nice wooded area. And wow! Who would have expected to see so many fish 🐟. But it’s true you never know when you’ll come across a beautiful surprise like this. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. I like going around and taking photos of small unnoticed views. One time I got a shot of a small waterfall just off the road. No one really noticed that it was even there. When you don’t film the surroundings. Not that the area was really bad or anything, it was just ordinary. Unnoticed. Thanks again!
Great video Liam…. Peering under the water surface always holds a special mystery which I think must go back to when we were kids. Back then minnows, gudgeons and chublets were favourites to see and still are today. Great to see these little fishes are still thriving despite the outflow there. I remember your video 4 years ago. I think you captured video of baby perch then to. Thanks again for a great video. 👏☺️

I was walking by my local river yesterday and saw a quick flash of blue flying by - so fast and no chance of filming the beautiful Kingfisher. Great to see the underwater camera, all looks pretty lively, even in the murky parts. Great vid thanks.

Thanks for the video Liam, it’s incredible to see how nature can make a home in the most unlikely places. I spent last Sunday morning clearing a blockage in our sewage outflow pipe (great fun) but I was amazed to find a frog living in the access space under the manhole cover. No idea how it got in there or how long it had been there. Anyway it seemed very healthy so I rescued it and released it into the garden.

Nice to see that not all of our streams and Brooks are dead. Theres so many places that I used to go to as a kid with my net and a bucket and catch so many minnows and stickle backs amongst other things. Unfortunately I walk around some of these places 40 years on and they’re now absolutely lifeless. It is heartbreaking to see what pollution has done to some of these once thriving pieces of water and some of the rubbish that people throw into these places beggars belief.

When me and my mates were younger, we always used to tell the adults we caught 10 gudgeon when we returned from fishing. The adults had no idea what they were and it sounded impressive
Cheers Charles. When I was younger, I used to catch stickleback instead of gudgeon. There wasnt much flowing fresh water in Great yarmouth so I never even saw a gudgeon until I travelled inland.

Unfortunately my local river( river Chelt .More of a brook) used to have fish but haven't seen any for about five or six years. Probably thanks to certain companies dumping chemicals straight into the river or in fields that drain into the river.😢😢

when i was smaller - about 45 years ago, we used to see Bullheads quite frequently but I've not seen one now for years.
I know a local spot where they are quite common. Perhaps I will visit there in the spring and try to film them underwater. Cheers

This time of year is perfect for watching wildlife. I've noticed that swans get very territorial this time of year. Do they spend the winter guarding their patch for mating rights in spring? The younger adults get a hard time also.
The common seldom is. Life's good and extrodinary wherever you find when you appreciate it. And? We do! Keep up the good work!.

there is a drain so like that one on the itchen, though it drains a lake into the river, just before the river joins the estury, through the remains of a system for a water mill.
That Kingfisher is always down there. I keep meaning to spend a bit of time down there with my proper camera, but as you know, it's not the nicest spot to hang around for hours.

Sure does mate, near the marriots way bridge.
When filming above water shoot through the lens of polarised glasses, they are like x Ray specs, also just for giggles people who wear fake tan glow orange.
