I know these are old videos but I really love the way you break it down for beginners, it can be intimidating and a lot of channels just blaze over the basics. Good job
@@Gil-dz9bb yeah, for people that have never done it, trying to figure out what lures, baits, lines etc to use in specific situations can be frustrating to figure if you don’t have someone teaching you. Not sure what your comment is supposed to mean
THANKS ZACH!!! I’ve watched many of your videos that pertain to my kind of Fishin’! Even an old dog Bank Fisher like me can still learn NEW TRICKS 😁THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR TIPS!!!!!
Great video man. Simple but it’s been 20 yrs since I’ve fished as a kid, now trying to teach my kids and as simple as it seems I get a little lost teaching them basic stuff like this. Appreciate the videos
Excellent video Zach, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I haven't had much luck using worms and, after watching this video, I think I understand why now. I used to just put the worms on the hook piercing the worm maybe three times. I had too much of the hook exposed. I definitely need to get out there and get a line wet and give worms another try. Thanks again. Stan
The old school way to put that bobber on the line, was a bit different. Take the line coming from your pole, and hook it under the bobber bottom (white part), run the line over the bobber, and hook it to the bobber top (red part), then run it back down, and hook it again, to the bottom (white part). Now, the line goes from the fishing pole to the bobber bottom, and from the bobber bottom to the hook. The bobber won't slide on the line by itself, and it will sit upright in the water (not lying on it's side).
Glad you're showing these tips. Now with the pandemic there are alot of newbies out there. Yesterday i went to my local city pond and 3 people cross my lines. They thought i was mad i just helped them untangle. I can tell who is new to the sport because some get upset and frustrated or wonder why nothing is biting at all.
Please make a video on how to tell if a fish bites and also i have been watching these videos so i can start fishing but so far your videos are the best mate
If they’re under 6 pounds. I prefer lighter line in freshwater. 6-10 lbs. Even if I hook into a larger channel or carp, the only time I get a break is if they get tied up and rub on something. My best advice for just starting is just figure out what works for you. Throw in a couple different setups and see what you like and what you catch with what. Worms are fun because almost anything will eat a worm.
Make sure that your sinker on the second set up slides, we have lost so many fish because they can feel the weight of the sinker, we use 3oz ones cause of the river current that we fish in
Could you do a video on the best set up/bait to use in a lake that has a lot of grass on the bottom. I seem to get snagged a lot and lose my bait. Any suggestions? Thanks! I enjoy your channel.
I resort to weedless hooks in high snag areas. A little harder to set them, but it beats losing them all day. They just have a little metal clip on them, but do a pretty good job for me.
Really like your channel. I finally learned what circle hook I need to use with worms for catfishing. This has been a problem for me lately. I wish I had seen your videos sooner. I was using a 2 Oz weight. But not getting out far enough fir the catfish. So lm going to try a 4 Oz or larger, a slip sinker I think and maybe use two hooks. I don't think I can get shad right now but might be able to get Frozen shrimp.
Fishing off the bottom: use a Carolina rig with a 1/O hook (next size up from size 1) and thread the whole worm on there, hook it a bunch of times. You can even use two worms if you want Fishing off the top: Use a size one hook then after getting the hook on, put a tiny split shot a foot above the hook, then a bobber 2-5 feet above that. Only thread on about half a worm since smaller fish will nibble off your bait when fishing top-water
If you’re only using a pinch of worm, I’d use a wax worm instead. I caught a decent channel cat this morning w a wax worm on a bobber. Totally unexpected on an ultralight rig but really fun.
Only disagreement is worms at Walmart, a lot of times the worms are dead. I go to small stores or bait shops. Bait is always alive. Just my experience but absolutely enjoyed the video 👍
How do they steal the worm as a whole? even if they bit the lower half u would still be pretty much stuck with what u have now? I don't know I'm just asking
I prefer the Patrick F. McManus way of getting worms. Invite your fishing buddy to go fishing with you in Your Boat and have him join you at Your House. After you have finished your fixing and eating your big breakfast and putting up your dishes (no sense in letting the cat out of the bag) you can saunder out and tell him about the box of worms you found in the garage fridge and that it's time to go fishing. It is recommended to have Several fishing buddies because unless your buddy is really thick or can easily overpower you this ploy will not work. BTDT a painful lesson, believe me.

My thoughts exactly!! Thank you for helping us that know nothing on how to do this by explaining the basics.
He's a really good baiter. I guess that would make him a master baiter.

Coffee grounds new one for me, fresh or used as in instead of throwing out give them to ya worms?
