If you don't have an inktjet printer. Just print it with a laser printer on normal paper. Place is with the print down on the wood and iron it. The toner will transfer to the wood.
Mr Rhoten - you and Ryan are such a blessing. I’ve learned SO much from you guys. I’m very thankful to see you guys stop by and visit with Matt and Amy. I absolutely love both families and I’m a better woodworker and maker because of you both. Love you guys like family (the good ones that we like!) 😂😂😂
Eric is amazing. He taught me how to make signs with my router... and he was always there to actually TALK to me on the phone. He is an old school dude. I bought his base forr my dewalt router and his bits.
Been watching their channel for years, and learned to carve with a router thanks to them. Their products are also really good and have a great customer service friendly mindset. They truly are great people! Glad you got to do a colaboraration video with them!
I’ve purchased two bases and several bits from the Rhoten’s business and they offer wonderful quality products. Like any craft, it takes time and practice to perfect - but with their base, bits and videos they get you EXTREMELY advanced and productive very quickly! Can’t say enough great things about these guys - I wish I was part of their family!!
I don't do woodworking, but I have built control panels for flight sims (plexiglas). Engraving the letters are very difficult using a Dremel (even if it's in the "drill press" attachment)...now that I know the name of the very pointy bit ("carving line router bit") and to use a clear, standalone base, it will help immensely!! Most people seem to use CNC engravers or comparable, which is way too rich for my blood, but this setup will be wonderful!! Thanks for putting this up!! ❤
Matt - THANK YOU for hosting the Rhoten family. Aren’t they amazing, talented and wonderful folks? I love your charging board - the colors really make it stand out without going overboard - you picked the perfect amount to highlight! Would love to see you make one for that beautiful wife of yours! (Please give her an extra big hug just for me?) This was such a great project with endless possibilities and you’re so good at demonstrating an example and then allowing us, your viewers, to say ‘hey, I could do that’ and here’s how I would customize it to fit my needs (or their customers!). Thank you Matt. This was a walk up to the plate and then hitting a grand slam. Nicely done!
That turned out beautiful and the fill you did Matt, was a great final touch. I’d like to make one. I can say, Eric and Ryan make it look easy 😅. I have the 5 bits and base plate for my Bosch router, Rapid Resizer, inkjet with freezer paper letter sized sheets, and laser engraver for templates and letters, and out of 3-4 signs, I have one ☝🏼 that was worthy of finishing. I was a welder by trade for many years (following lines) and for me it just isn’t something I’ve been able to just sit down and do. Takes practice.
Thank you brother! Just what I need for my palm router as my carving jobs have been sloppy because I can’t see the carving tip of the router and this will make controlling the router a lot easier.
Their channel is criminally underrated, the OG sign makers of UA-cam. While I find CNC videos fascinating to watch, I have neither the space nor the moolah to spend on one that’s half way good. But… I do have a router! Also like the finished look of their pieces. You can tell a human made them, it doesn’t have that machined and sterile precision of CNC. They have a warmth that really stands out.
i bought my base for my dewalt palm router it fit and works great, bought the router gauge also very nice from kets make a wood sign, father son buisness great products love the video,
This guys bases are great! As well as his videos. A couple years ago I fell off of a roof I was working on. Broke a bunch of bones and couldn’t work for quite a while. I spent a lot of time with a trim router with one of these bases learning this process. It was really challenging with all my injuries but it kept my mind busy and had something to look forward to during that time. My current view is that CNC takes the man out of craftsmanship. But I also see how a CNC for a straight up woodworker is necessary. Im a renovation carpenter, my preferred work is hand building built-in cabinets and shelving. If I did only built -ins I bet I’d loosen up on the idea of automation. I just love the being able to do things by hand. When I build a display and hand carve the business’s logo on it, they loose their minds that it’s not a CNC, it’s gratifying. Thanks for having these guys on, really kool of you to promote something fun like this.
I never heard of them or their product before this video... I'm going straight to their website & ordering a baseplate for my router haha Thanks 731 for educating me!
I love it when 3 of my favorite UA-cam influencers get together for a project. Wish Matt and Amy were coming to the Tribal meet up in Arizona next week. Great video!!
I cannot afford a cnc but I can afford a router base plate for my colt 1hp router and a couple of the bits they used in this video! Super excited to give this a try on my current projects!
Ohhhhh sounds like you are in for a treat! Would LOVE to see what you create - hopefully you’ll post some pictures on the 731 Woodworks FaceBook Community page! Would love to see them. Have fun!
You should be able to use a large syringe and needle to do the epoxy in tiny areas. I want one of those attachments. Beautiful work Awesome ideal for handheld routing.
Awesome collaboration! I was watching them when I first became interesting in woodworking. Bought their base plate and depth gauge to make a growth ruler for my daughter. Great project too. Looking forward to trying some epoxy inlays
Funny that your video came up today. I'm starting making a sign tomorrow, and will be carving out the letters by hand. I printed out the full-size layout a few days ago, and will be gluing up the boards tomorrow. Weird how YT knew to feed me this video just in time...
Omg i have meet those guys before and they are really cool meet them at Woodcraft in Vegas. so proud of these guys thank you for everything about to make my first table i will send you a link thanks for the novation watch this channel all the time to learn how to build and buy the right tools for the job
Nice video. I would add that using a household iron can be used to transfer toner from a laserjet printer will also work. On epoxy insertion into tight areas, try using an oral syringe. The tapered and curved tip can be trimmed to change the orifice size and gives you better access to tight areas. Hope this helps. Steve
Those details of white epoxy really make it look good. Really great info on freehand routing. I worked in cabinet shops for years and didn't even know it was possible...!
Absolutely love it. Love seeing you branch out into different types of wood working. This is my style of wood working including pyrography, scroll saw art, wire inlay, and right now I'm working on a project that has intarsia rose on it. The more I can learn and incorporate into my projects the better. I wish I could meet y'all when you come to woodcraft as I live less that 30 miles away, but I work 2nd shift so I can't meet y'all. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next. Stay awesome.
If you didn't want the ink to smear, you could do the same except use a laser printer instead and heat to transfer. I used to use this method all of the time to make circuit boards and front panel labels. Works a treat. I've also seen places like Stewmac that make custom bases for dremels to do fine inlay work on guitar fretbaords. They could do something similar and maybe more controllable than even a trimming router.
Matt, this was a great video! Thanks for introducing me to Matt and Ryan’s channel. I don’t have the space for a CNC and this definitely opened my mind to some new techniques.
Thank you for posting this! This is awesome that you promote other channels and businesses. I’ve just recently subscribed, but your channel is by far the most helpful when it comes to tricks, tips and what tools to buy.
I clicked because I wanted a combination watch phone charger. That is not the main point of the video. It would not have been possible without Eric and Ryan’s awesome hand router work. That is the main point of the video.
Hmmm. Definitely haven’t been blocked. “Moderator” I did enjoy the content of this creator. Blocking negative comments is a low where I hope others can say unsubscribe. Useless content. Schilling to the algorithm. Not a woodworking channel.
That inkjet image transfer also works with colored ink! Just don’t forget to mirror the image on the computer before you print on the label carrier sheet.
Great video! Question: when you hand carved the phone charger circle, it appeared to be cutting quite deep. I heard recently that you shouldn't cut deeper than the width of your bit, necessitating a plunge router rather than fixed. Just curious your thoughts on this.
Awesome video and project. I've seen Eric and Ryan's stuff before just haven't jumped on it yet but think I should. I wish my phone would wireless charge with the pop socket on it but it won't otherwise i'd make one of these for sure. Great video and project and so awesome those guys visited your shop!!
Chris - I struggle with that set up as well as having a case on my phone. I’ve even tried the chargers that specifically say they work with phone cases! Wish there was a popsocket that could conduct the power from the charger to the phone. Hey - we need to invent that! 🤣🤣🤣
If you go to www.makeawoodsign.com (this is the website for the Rhoten’s business), you can find all of the sign making products needed - including the bits that Eric mentioned in the video. Hope this helps! 😊

Man, it was a blast hanging out and working with you! We sure appreciate yours and Mrs. Amy's hospitality

Thank you Stephanie. Yes, they are great people and it was a pleasure to have in them in the shop.
Love how that turned out and fun to see Eric and Ryan on your channel. They are masters of sign carving!
These guys have been a inspiration for me for years.
I found Eric and his dad over 10 years ago. Their lessons helped me make my signs look amazing. Great job as always, Eric!
That turned out beautiful and the fill you did Matt, was a great final touch.

Yes, they make it look easy. Of course anyone can do it. But you're right! It does take practice.
VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!!! I'm sure this can be easily altered to accommodate those of us who are Android dependent.

I've been looking at small CNC machines to do what you just did. Router and base plate is the way to go. And it will save me $200!
Ditto. I don’t have the space nor the desire to spend $1000s or a CNC. I can draw, and this seems like right up my alley!
i bought my base for my dewalt palm router it fit and works great, bought the router gauge also very nice from kets make a wood sign, father son buisness great products love the video,

Cool router base plate! Gotta get me one of them!
You are all gifted craftsmen that have blessed me and my skills! Thank you!
That turned out really nice
Three of my favorite UA-camrs
What a great collaboration video. I follow both channels and have just gotten into carving. Timing is great !! Thanks !
Thank you for giving people options and exposure to new/old ways of doing stuff!! You all rock!
Great video as always! I never thought of mixing orange oil and tung oil, thanks for the idea 🙏🏾
I'm a guitar builder and can see a bunch of uses for that base, definitely gonna get some of those!

Been a fan of Eric and his Dad for many yrs. Amazing what they can teach us about hand held routing.
That router base is so easy to make with just a few bits I have two small draw nobs and a off cut of plexiglass fee and easy
I purchased one of those bases, and it’s a game changer. A must have !
Where did you get the router base?

Wow impressive, all freehand! Never seen such small router bits though! Thank you!
Great seeing some of my favorite UA-camrs collaborate. Great project! I had to watch and like both videos. 😊

@@johnolz1886 Wow really? That´s wonderful! The thing is, I live in Austria (Europe) and have only (european) Debit-Card. 😬
OMG I am so going it make a router base with cute little drawer pulls on it. That's impossibly adorable.
Nice to see you getting back to your core that built this great channel.
Totally enjoy the hand made aspect of this project.
Need one of these for my “dremil” then I can really do some small carving. Great stuff gentlemen!
Matt, this was a great video! Thanks for introducing me to Matt and Ryan’s channel. I don’t have the space for a CNC and this definitely opened my mind to some new techniques.
I don't have the budget for cnc, this is exactly what I was looking for 👍
This is so cool , I follow both very closely, and it’s cool to see you two together.
What a cool build!!! Turned out great!
Oh, I mkissed that one when it was released. Thank you for all the ideas!
Nice! What kind of bits do they use?

Really genius idea, I love everything about this.
Very cool, thanks for this.

Did you say Orange and Tung oil mix? If so, what ratio is it? Thanks, just came across your videos and am really enjoying them. Thanks!
The base plates from these guys are also available on Amazon 👍
Very nice job
Try using a body filler squeegee to force the epoxy into the small crevasse
That inkjet image transfer also works with colored ink! Just don’t forget to mirror the image on the computer before you print on the label carrier sheet.

Man I just learned alot! Thank you!
Hey folks anything you do will not turn out like his without 1000’s of hours of practice he is an artist.
Way Cool. Now I know.
It's an amazing work. Simply love the trimmer bit and the base ... Don't know if I can get that bit here in India....
Great channel and the project turned out very nice
Love the Rhotens. Damn good people.
I want that router base!!
Eric sells them on his site.
Very awesome! I want to try this!
Hot glue is easily removed if you add a little rubbing alcohol on it and it really just releases that bond. I found this in a electronics video.

Should have put a link to that bit

Turned out amazing 👏
Thank you
Can this be done using a Dremel tool?
What bit is the gentleman using for the routing?
I wonder how well my tattoo transfer paper would work for this. 🤔
Could you use a dremel tool to make the carving and engraving? not hating, just curious... I have a dremel set. I don't have a router like that...
If you ever need any CNC work let me know. Thanks, John
GREAT workmanship. I also made a similar router and engraved a clock with a cat 😁VDS greets you 🙃
Hi can you please tell me where to get the type of paper you used?
