I put together my son's PC for about £275 all in including an RX570 8GB and a Corsair 500 Watt PSU, all secondhand off eBay.
you are a great father
everyone liked that
if you gave him a 45nm intel chip in 2020 you're a monster
@@zhon5311 worked brilliantly. Now upgraded to Xeon 5675
@@MrLukealbanese I just said that because I have a i7 870 optiplex 980 system and it runs like hot garbage. Good upgrade tho
passport.midi. can it emulate a soundcanvas. I need answers
@@classic_jam jam waitin for irons reply?
only if you have ultrasound
I got the i7 870 and tomorrow my overkill for the chip gpu gtx 1060
Good coverage of the old i7, pity about the instruction sets and the weird spot it sits in between the i5 2400 and 2600 price wise
Honestly solid for a decade old CPU
What instruction sets? This isn't a c2q
@@h2oaddict28 zero avx support is what I was referring to
I got my computer for free with an i7-870 on an Intel PD55SB with 16GB of ram and a Geforce GTX 680. I use it as my daily computer for everything, including gaming (CSGO, DOOM 2020 ...etc) on an Ultrawide 34' Monitor. I see no reason at the moment to upgrade to anything more powerfull.
My old gaming pc! Same specs: i7870 and HD5770 with 6gb RAM and 1TB HDD. Still using it after 10 years of good service😌
Maybe consider to swap hdd to ssd.
I just bought an i7-870 and another 5770 for crossfire. Replacing my oc i5-650 @4.4, which will be a backup or a cheap build for my parents. Very excited. No reason to shell out money when this P7P55D ASUS 1156 mobo still has life left in it.
I am using a i5 650 and 9800gt combo with Gigabyte h55-s2h and I'm looking for upgrade to a i7 870 and 1050ti level graphics card like gtx 680 or 770 what do you think ?
That is a really good motherboard i have multiple of these still running. i7-870 can be ran at 4.0ghz easily on this board and remember memory controller in this chip is way better than i5-650, this also supports 2x8gb ram up to 16gb! If you have a decent ram kit 2133-2400mhz might be reachable, most can do atleast 2133mhz CL10.
Hey man I love your videos and videos of older tech
And the first video I saw from your channel was the fx 6300 it was awesome and it has the same green ham gaming charm
Please do make more fx xeon old sandy bridge videos
Idk I get a real kick out of an old xeon video I guess I watched too much tech yes city
But do keep up with the good work
Still some life in the old dogs yet, but you can see the grey hairs showing. My i7 3770K is holding its own but today brings a new contender into my household, when DPD delivers it anyways 8am to 5 pm delivery slot :(.
Why do your videos kinda remind me of Greenham Gaming?
Running an old Gateway 4840, was a factory i5, installed the i7-870 as the fastest chip my mobo can handle. 16gb ram, SSD makes all the difference. Was running a GTX750ti but currently running a Radeon 7870. Gets me my KSP and Minecraft kicks.
KSP2 is likely going to be my upgrading force.
might get one of these chips for my HT-PC to revive it, may be a nice upgrade
My i7-960 is a great CPU, just needs a little overclock.
3.60ghz???
@@abdogames8517 4ghz
This 11 year old CPU is better than my modern laptops CPU lol
I had one of these with a Gtx 770, was a great machine, I then had it paired with a 1070 lmao the bottleneck was real
You get a 4th gen xeon 4770 equivalent for around £40 paid £32 for an e3-1241 v3 6 months ago wouldn't say the i7 870 is worth considering because of that.
i have one of these on my desk as a paper weight. grabbed it from a clients dead dell, it's a neat little chip.
I once build one to sell not long ago with a GTX970 and it even played Cyberpunk.
great video iv got this exact CPU in a older system rn
What about Sandybridge? I had i7 2600 up until recently and was still quite usable.
I currently have that exact CPU waiting for review, don’t you worry ;)
Still running this baby but she's truly getting old in the tooth, gonna retire her soon but for now she paired but with a GTX 1060.
Im about to pull the trigger and upgrade my imac from 2009 i5 to this i7 870 just love those chips!
Really working bro!! I have iMac too I wanna i7 870s???? Probably doing
@@RGV1503 I upgraded mine and its working amazing! Also got ATI 6970 2 gb video card wich made and even more impactful differnce!
@Unknown User YEah they're bad boys!
hmm title says i7 870 in 2020 yet you test those ancient games? You should have tested all games that are 2 years old at the most, to show its true capabilities in 2020...

I have a question. How Much ram is in there while testing? I thinking of doing a similar build...
1:50 I have done this SO many times!
How do you count the Fps i cant see the fps counter in afterburer , i dont understand
My lovely Arock p55 deluxe still takes my x3470 was the way to 4.2 all core under 1.45v, or 4.0 at 1.35v lol...
Can i undervolt it to decrease temps?
Great work again good sir!
I have a i7 870, gtx 2060 ko, 8 gig vengeance ram, coolmaster black edition, kingston ssd OP. Gigabyte h55 mobo 🤓 I need a better mobo, any suggestions?
I'm OC to 3.6 and I can play world of warships at 4k ish visuals. Warzone it too hard of a strain with only 8gig ram 😓
Warzone is a ram intense game so u need 16gb in order to have 0 stutters
Im really surprised you dont have a lot of subscribers, I really enjoy your videos. Im subscribed so I dont miss any of your videos. I hope you are doing great :))
Thanks for subbing!
Left 4 dead 2 gets only 60 fps? You surely had an fps lock on, my second pc gets 130 fps with an x5450 lga 775 coz XD
Vsync on
Another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I use the core i7 620m (dual core) (for laptop)☹
Without dedicated graphics😭
My minecraft on lowest gets 15fps
It is perfectly!!
I had that CPU for 2 years it was a beast
I have that CPU in my old PC and its still good
This doesnt show the real power of this cpu most of the tested games are not demanding
That's not what I do on this channel, I show games that people actually want to play on lower end systems like this.
is it ok when my 870 temp stable on 72-75c...i mean ark intel indicates 72.7 only
You need to cool it down. That's at max. Just get a 212 Cooler master evo, kept my OC i5-650 @ 38.
you can go to 99c, it's just not recommended (with high voltage)
GRAN TURISMO 2 soundtrack playing in the background!!! (during benchmarks) Am I the only one who noticed this?
EDIT: Ok it's written at the end but I swear I made this comment as soon as I recognized the song.
x3440 cost only $7 and is practically the same.
This makes me feel better about having an i7-3770 lol
Great cpu, my laptop got an I5 8300h (4c/8th)and is locked at 3.9 ghz constant, its a beast for on the fly gaming and rendering
Deine Hündin yo I have the same cpu
Me with i3 10100 rx 580 8 gb have fun for far cry new dawn and metro exodus 1440 p ultra 60 fps
Can it run fortnite gta v and csgo on high settings (my specs are intel core i5 750 2.67 ghz) (if i buy this its gonna be intel core i7 870) (rx 580 series) (4gb ram) please answer
More ram definitely would help
Oc the i7
It can run all of them on high
Gta V is the tricky one because it is heavy on cpu but I think u would get 40 to 50 fps
But hey it's good to a 11 year old cpu
oh, due to crazy ebay prices, I am currently looking for a 2gb GT530. If anyone has one for sale under 35-40 dollars and shipping, please let me know. It MUST be THIS card. Dealing with a whitelist.
CSGO should be played with low graphics though. Otherwise, good video.
У меня такой же процессор
For the love of god turn off V-Sync so it doesn't cap your FPS
God bless
M
In my country i7 870 only 20$
30 pounds.... just get a x3440 for 6$ and OC it or get a x3470
X3470 is a much better buy if you have a good motherboard. I have both...
@@h2oaddict28 yes unless you overclock it, going more bclk provides more L3 bandwidth, so maxing out the x3470's multiplier isn't the best choice and x3440 is effectively the same in that case.
@@Fin4L6are Well, my x3470 has cold boot issues when you go over around 195. So I just set it to 21x or 22x. My 750 is stable at 207, so is the x3440, but that one can't go over 19x. if i set it to 20x it likes to suddenly lower the multiplier to 16x under certain programs and stay there untill a reboot, which is very weird...
I need to grab another x3470, and see if that one doesn't have the same issues. When it comes to temperatures and power consumption the x3470 is the best.
@@h2oaddict28 I never tried more than 200 on my x3470 but that runs fine, I can't cool 200x20 but 200x19 is ok (1.25V). I've been tempted to get another one to gamble for a better bin, core4 on mine gets way hotter than others and the QPI needs 1.3V to run 1600mhz at 200bclk. I also had a 750 same as you, and a second x3470 which only has 1 mem channel due to my shit delidding, so we're kinda in a similar boat.
@@Fin4L6are Which software do you use? I get around 65c on realtemp and 80c on hardwareinfo. I haven't delided any of mine. Temperature doesn't seem to be the issue, I can push past 4.2 on the x3470 if I go over 1.45v
