June and July in Indiana are black raspberry picking month! So I’ve studied them close up and personal quite a lot! Three of us have picked over 20 gallons now! Love the art but I’ll have to change it to a black raspberry for sure!
I love your raspberry, Lindsay. I tried doing a raspberry in colored pencil, last year. It showed me that I need practice! I enjoy seeing your process of layering.
Thanks!
30 day watercolor class sounds great!
Coming soon!
Well THAT was enormous fun to watch! Thank you! I decided I would participate in WWM this year. I regretted not doing it last year. I work at the Front Desk of a hotel and frequently do night auditor shifts. I have to stretch 2 hours of work into an eight hour shift. Things are quiet from around 2am to 5am. So I made myself a travel palette and bought a small WC sketchbook. I am determined to do a painting a day, at least. It would be lovely to have a whole sketchbook devoted to it - something that would give me a sense of accomplishment. I adore WC painting. I have followed your channel for years now and have learned so much from you! Thank you for all of your hard work to bring us such wonderful content. I appreciate you so very much, Lindsay! Love and Bless xo
That's a great idea!
I did my raspberries for watercolorworld, wish I saw your video before.
I am sure yours is beautiful!
Lindsay, you are so talented, and you can do anything! Your raspberry is amazing! I can't draw or paint anything! If I actually tried, it would look like a toddler created it. Your painting is so pretty. Thanks for sharing the entire process with us
You can do it! The important thing is to have fun!
I work with children and find their art quite fun. I think you should give yourself a chance. These are very learnable skills and Lindsay and others are great teachers.
Can't thank you enough for the tip on the Unsplash app. That is a GREAT idea. I love being able to look it up on my phone or iPad. Thank you x million .
Happy to help!
Fabulous. You continued far far beyond, what I would have done 😂
I started learning watercolor few weeks ago and I am addicted 😂. I joined the WWM for the first time but I didn’t follow the prompts. I thought I need to start on something easy so I just borrowed other’s ideas for beginners 😊.
That is awesome!
I loved watching this and want to try my own raspberry painting now. Our raspberries are just starting to ripen, so I took a photo and will use that as my reference. Thanks so much, Lindsay!
You can do it!
amazed by the incredible talent and dedication you possess.
Thanks!
"We're painting this way bigger than real life"... Can you imagine a raspberry of that size? I just had the daydream of biting into a delicious raspberry of that size... Of course, imagining that it's just as sweet as the smaller ones! You ever notice the bigger berries rarely taste as good? This one would, though!
Anyway, daydream over. 😅 Thank you for another wonderful video!
That would be nice!
I love that you used the WC pencils for the drawing. I have a 'Frugal' set of watercolor pencils and I wanted to try doing this. You have more class then I do, when I see the prompt 'raspberry' I think of a whoopee cushion... phttttt. Have fun and thanks for sharing.
Perfectly valid thought. Whoopee cushions are fun. They keep my cousin Jarrett occupied and laughing for hours on end. Prompts don't have to be literal.
That's a great idea!
Forgot to mention that as far as time goes it depends on what I'm actually painting. For example, the prompt "Startled" was a cartoon girl with a startled face, so spent on drawing about 5 minutes, and painting about 10. But the Raspberry cluster took maybe 45 minutes total. 😅
Startle took me longest I think 😆
Enjoyed painting along to this 😃
I'm so glad!
Thank you so much for doing a full tutorial, it gave me the confidence to do my first world watercolor month painting! I'm looking forward to starting your new course as it sounded like just what I needed to actually start painting each day!😂
Glad it was helpful!
Love this so much! My kids favorite snack ♡
The best!
I may do some of the prompts but I won’t be able to do them everyday. I am going to try to do Inktober again this year. I almost finished last year and learned so much. Thank you for the inspiration! 😊
Have fun!
This looks so delicious.
Hullo Lindsay, Your a joy to watch and Yes, you do crack me up when you talk about getting tired of using Arches paper! Oh if I had the money to use Arches everyday! I have purchased many different paper brands and I try to get full sheets 22 x 30, Cheap Joe's and Blick's have house brands that are quite good, but sometimes I find a good deal on cotton papers that are NOT Arches in a block or pad in smaller sizes and those work well for packing around with me. I loved how patient you were with this Raspberry! I usually start with an overall highlight coat and then treat my fruits as spheres, you going in and starting with each "bulb" of the berry? very ambitious! Your berry looks great, so you know what your doing, eh? YES! Thanks for showing us all how to do it so well!
I don't tire of Arches, that's why I chose this book for my WWM this year:)
@@thefrugalcrafter Yes, I know that is why I joked about it when you said getting tired of a paper, yet you were using Arches! I said I would never tire of that brand, mildly insinuating that you would! As if! I have tired of certain brands, I do not want to disparage them here, I bet you have some of them in your room of hoard! Always a joy to chat with you Lindsay. You are a fun gal, I know this is just one of the reasons your French outing has sold out!
I thoroughly enjoyed painting along with you. 😊
I'm having a 'shut up and sketch' month with added watercolour. 😂
I don't do en plein air very often so I did that yesterday and sketched sweet peas.
I'm going to leave the raspberry for now as I feel tempted to 'tinker' and that's usually when I ruin things, so I'll come back tomorrow and see what I need to add. 😊
My neighbour is currently experiencing an raspberry glut so we're getting them by the punnet, so plenty of opportunities to study the subject! 😂
Yum!
I'm so glad to watch how you draw and paint. Very nice and interesting video. The end result is special and the process of realization is interesting. Very good and helpful explication. I like the details.
Thank you so much 😀
Loved it! Thanks for the tutorial and encouragement!
You are so welcome!
Such a yummy looking raspberry! ❤ Haven’t had the time to start WWC month. I may only do a few, but I absolutely need to de-stress and watercolor painting sound divine.
You can do it!
You draw so effortlessly! Im always erasing to try to get it right.i love that little palette but I can see that it would be hard to figure out which color is which. The finished raspberry is beautiful!!!
It's cute but impractical for most work.
Will use the prompts for World Watercolour month after finishing your 30 days of painting course. Been pretty busy packing my Dad up for his move tomorrow, and we are also helping my daughter and her family who are moving next Friday. My de-stress time is watching the occasional UA-cam video in the evening and doing one painting at the end of each the day! Love the variations in colour in the raspberry!
Thanks!
It was super fun to watch you paint this, Lindsay!! Thank you so much! ❤
You are so welcome!
Thank you Lindsay. I really enjoyed this , particularly the helpful asides you made while painting. Lots of useful hints and tips in there.
Glad it was helpful!
Definitely partaking in WWCMonth2023, and I so far have taken 25-40 mins… mainly drying time. I made a 6x6 accordion art journal of Canson and Fabriano 300gsm mixed WCpapers, for this year again. My aim is to keep it simple but fun for me. Loved your raspberry Lindsay. TY🤩💜👍
Sounds great!
I live in an arid climate. My paints dry in seconds. No need for blow dryer or heat tool.
I'm going with the actual prompts to make it a little more challenging and of course I had to be extra with it so I cut down 31 pieces of cotton watercolor paper to 4*4 inches and am gonna bind the all together when I'm done 🤗
Wonderful!
I’m doing WWM this year! I started my art journey in January 2022…. Taking classes in drawing, then acrylics, watercolor, & along with a weekly studio class. You influenced me to do Inktober last year - 31 days drawing flowers.
I’ve fallen in love with watercolors, however I could use practice in everything so I’m not choosing a single topic. Rather I’m using multiple mediums (watercolors, Inktense pencils, gouache and ink- line I wash) and attempting landscapes, botanicals, urban sketching etc! Spending at least 30 minutes and using a Baohong 9x5 sketchbook.
Thanks for your tutorials and, more importantly, your inspiration and encouragement ❤️
Good luck with WWM!
Thanks for the pep talk! July snuck up on me this year, and I totally missed the first few days. I’ve been debating starting, but you’re right - some is better than none!
You got this!
Hi Lindsay, So fun you show us how to paint this raspberry. I will try it myself this weekend when I have time. I also wanted to share with you about the Escoda travel brushes. I have 2 sets they are synthetic but feel very real and hold so much water/paint. I really love them and I got them on sale.
Are they synthetic?
@@thefrugalcrafter Yes they are! They come in 4 sets and all sets are different brushes. I even got one set that has 2 regular Escoda brushes and one travel one. Blick is having this painters set on sale. Joseph Zbukvic Signature Brush Set 1
Magnifique 🤩
Thanks!
I just feel like I'm staring into a window this month, but am locked out. I sit down to do things and draw a blank, probably due to life's greater challenges. Most of the WWM prompts are beyond my skill and and would be just frustration. The raspberry isn't bad, but I've already done raspberries in colored pencil a few months ago and so I enjoy watching your technique, but not enough to do another raspberry. I guess this is what artist block is, when the thing you've been doing for therapy becomes just another frustration. Thanks for giving me something to watch!
I definitely would like a watercolor 30 days to better painting class -- and hope that you incorporate pencil and other mixed media touches. And yeah, raspberry leaves do take on some of the red pigment, in nature, as well as in a beautiful painting ;-).
I will do a watercolor version of "30 days". You can do a pastry or drink with Raspberry ot a Raspberry beret!
@@thefrugalcrafter I just bookmarked your "Sweet Raspberry Dessert" tutorial from 6 years ago. Maybe I'll get motivated and give it a try. Thanks!
I am doing world watercolor month. It depends on the challenge about how long I take Today the challenge is “startle” and nothing came to mind so I painted a startling. Ok Im 68 years old and life is too short to stress over what to paint to make it “fit” the challenge. It took probably 2 hours total to paint the starling as I used masking fluid and let it dry and layer and let it dry. It is about 9x12. I’m also painting in a 5x7 journal. I’m doing an ice cream cone for flavor and started and finished it probably in about 20 minutes.
Those sound great!
Now I want raspberries...we have the same wet weather you do in Maine...I don't remember a summer where it started hot sunny muggy then went to hot rainy and muggy...our strawberry crops are suffering...the flowers are beautiful...BUT THE RAIN CAN GO...atleast for a bit...it is hell on my friends with fibromyalgia... Lindsay do you accept floral pictures from subscribers as possible material that you can paint...there is a plant that I have been taking pictures of...it is gorgeous and I thought of you when I saw it...I don't know what the flower is but it is something else...thanks for the ramble time...stay dry and I hope the sun comes out soon... Yes, you can email it to me at artstudiosofbangor@yahoo.com
Love your raspberry results, as usual. 👍 And I have a set of Spectrum Noir watercolor pencils in floral colors. I have to say, when activated with water, they are some of the most beautiful & transparent shades of pinks, violets & reds….definitely rivaling pro wcs. In their dry state, I don’t recall them being anything to shout about (it’s been a while since I used them.) But highly recommend them for watercoloring (but not for selling of originals…probably not very lightfast) at least the floral set…if you can find them…I got mine on clearance a few years ago. On the resource photo, and not that it matters, at first glance, shape-wise, it looked more like a strawberry 🍓 to me due to the overall teardrop shape, but then the bumps show it’s not. Thanks!
Yeah, I made mine more plump and cute
I’m doing WWM and following the prompts. I set a goal of doing it at least every other day, but 5 days in and I’ve done all 5 so far. I’m spending quite a bit of time on each, but I’m not working on anything else at the moment, and I’m on summer vacation so I have lots of time to kill.
Nice!
I am trying best I can to use the prompts though I am painting Arizona landscapes this year so for some of the prompts I am having to adjust how I use them. I am trying to keep it to under an hour and most are taking about 30-40 minutes. I have divided my watercolor 9x12 paper into 4 so each painting is about 4 1/2 x 6 inches.
Sounds great!
Those 4.5x6 are great and a lot less intimidating than trying for bigger.
You amaze me Lindsey the way you paint so fast and everything turns out so beautiful. Did I hear you say you’re going to offer a class on doing watercolor? I ‘d love to join it if you do. I think I will join in on world watercolor month starting tomorrow. I’m very inspired to try.
Yes! I actually have several watercolor classes at lindsayweirich.teachable.com, but I am planning a watercolor version of my "30 days to Better Painting " with different artwork than the other version.
I am working on 3x3ish (they vary) sheet portions, and I spend different amounts of time. For yesterday (vegetation) I spent 15 mins. For the day before (mechanism) I spent like 2+ hours haha. But I’m also really proud of that one.
Nice work!
💜💜💜
Yeah, I am attempting to do WWM. I would never post my results on Instagram, but I have put them on my personal Facebook page for a few of my friends and family to see. The time I've spent on each one varies considerably. Some have taken longer and some not so long. "Startle" took the longest. I am not very good at drawing, so that takes the most time. I'm learning as I go since I've only been at this watercolor business for a short time. I am keeping them small, less intimidating. I have a bunch of various brands of less expensive watercolor paper, so am cutting it up in 4x6 inch pieces. I figure I can use them as card fronts, or post cards, or I may just scrapbook them. My daughter is insisting that I at least keep them and not toss them at the end of the month!!LOL!
I think that's fabulous, Jim! Startle was a tough one!
I started WWM, but haven't been able to follow because of work. Still working on weekends tho! :)
You got this! Do what you can because it all adds up!
"The average person has not looked at a raspberry that long." How many licks to the center of a Tootsie pop?
I am trying it this year. I am getting a little stumped with some of the prompts - so I do my own thing for those (example was today's prompt - Startle ). I am working in a new 5 x 7 journal - and I am trying not to spend more than about 15 - 20 minutes per day. Otherwise I get too bogged down in details. I painted a cluster of raspberries from my garden....
Nice!
Love your raspberry! Where did you say there are art prompts? I couldn’t understand what you said. Thanks.
Let me find the link... worldwatercolormonth.com/prompts/
Lol, I just Googled it... but the link is better. It shows where you can post your paintings if you want to. The prompts look really fun!
Hi Lindsay! I would love a 30 days to better painting in watercolor. It's my favorite medium and I'm really focused on daily painting with worldwatercolor month, so it would be a nice follow up in the fall to keep me on the daily practice path. I started the month with the Strathmore visual journal, watercolor, and it was a disaster. I was so disappointed. I did a couple of WWM paintings twice and still just hated the result. So I switched to one of my precious few remaining Strathmore watercolor travel journals and instantly more satisfied. Why in the world did Strathmore discontinue them? I have 3-4 still in my stash. When I saw the raspberry prompt I thought, Oh Lindsay is gonna love playing with all those reds. Thanks and have a great day!
I am going to do a version with different art for watercolor! Probably in September:)
@@thefrugalcrafter I’m down!
I noticed WWCM website said you could participate without using the prompts. Would it be ok to share the paintings we are doing in your 30-days class for WWC month, if we give credit to the class and color cubes? Your raspberry is gorgeous and it's even more interesting because of the large scale!
Of course you can! Have fun!
Yes doing #worldwarercolormonth and following the designated prompts. I know this prompt was "Raspberry", but I painted them in a cluster. I also have been posting on Instagram 😂
Nice! I'll keep an eye out for your work
Could you imagine a raspberry that big? yummy!! It looks great.
That would be cool!
Where is the prompt for world watercolor month, please?
worldwatercolormonth.com/prompts/
Good grief! I am so far off. Don't even know what day it is much less month. LOL Well, I thought wwc. month was last month and I missed it. Well, maybe I can catch up. Gonna definitely do this one.
Yay! Jump in where you can!
