    I enjoyed the concert this morning! We're blessed to see herons quite often! Egrets too. We have cattle egrets down here in Kansas. It's a bit early for the large flocks to arrive, but any day now they'll just be here! We had herons in Illinois where I grew up. They're fascinating to watch. They have a schedule almost. Each morning we can look out the window & they will be visiting the ponds in the neighborhood, then they fly to another. From about 7:30 or 8 until 10 every morning we will look out & see them. There are huge flocks of them in the dead trees along the Arkansas River on the west side of Wichita. They make their rounds & then go off for the day, returning at night.
    The cattle egrets migrated up here back in the 90s & now they are regular visitors. They even sit on the cattle in the fields as if they were out in the wilderness. The first few years they were here they would spook the cattle, now they are just as common as the cow birds & sparrows. It still excites me to see them though, I never get tired of seeing them hitch a ride on some big old black cow.

    OK Lindsay, Just a quick comment. Art is WORK! It is not as exhausting as digging ditches or driving a truck, or, or, or, but it is hard work and that is why not everyone can do it! Yes, anyone who applies themselves can learn to paint. It is just eye hand co-ordination, but getting an idea and bringing it to life or into this world that is what we artists do. I have seen you do it and I have no problem saying I am impressed and inspired by you! Thanks.

I grew up in Wisconsin and it was always still cold and snowy on Easter. We didn't get any rain last month. A little bit so far this month. Absolutely lovely daffodils. I never think about adding other colors to pure yellow blossoms, but yours turned out so pretty :)
    I get you about having to do art on a timetable. I'm a writer. It's my favorite thing to do and yet I put it off a lot, simply because it can feel more like a duty than a pleasurable pursuit. I decided long ago not to make my hobby my actual job, for precisely the reason you say - having to keep an eye on the clock/calendar. I often let a month or even two months go by without posting a new chapter on the two websites I use. But I start to feel guilty, and my anxiety starts acting up. I often wonder if knowing that people are waiting to read my next chapter helps (to motivate me) or hurts (makes me feel as if I'm doing it for someone other than myself). But I also wonder if I'd produce more if I was actually earning money for my work. Then I could reconcile myself to accept deadlines, because at least I'd be compensated for my time and effort.
    I also get the "need something new" thing. In my case, I'm writing a very loooong story that already has over 400,000 words and is still only about 2/3 done. It's been six years. I'd love to finish it faster, but how to motivate myself? Art, hopefully. I've decided I want to try making illustrations for my story. Either colored pencils and other dry media, or polymer clay 3D figures. I've never worked with clay, so the novelty intrigues me. Doing New Things is definitely a great way to get the creative flow going :)

    My watercolor pencils are Prismacolor or Royal and Langnickel. They are both fine but I actually prefer the R&L. Need to find a larger set of them.

    • @karlamae7700
      @karlamae7700 Рік тому +1

      R&L doesn't make a very large set of watercolor pencils. If you have 24 then you probably have them all 😉 lol.
      Years ago when I first got into watercolor painting I skipped on the R&L paint products after trying them for the most part because they don't offer the big broad sets that Faber Castell or Derwent or Carandache does and I wasn't big on the quality. I know that R&L are a more affordable brand and they're great to learn with at first but to me it was worth paying more for the bigger sets as I use them often and can buy them individually when I run out of a color ❤

    • @MaryYoungblood-xy8vg
      @MaryYoungblood-xy8vg Рік тому +1

      I only have 12. I live in a small town and R&L is available brick and mortar where I am. I don't want everything shipped in and the nearest Michael's is 110 miles away and Jerry's and Blick are 180 miles away.

    And the carbothellos are AWESOME. It does work best on paper with bit of tooth; They are my first pastel pencil set and I love m for fuzzy background stuff on pastelmat. But on smooth paper its a bit harder. You might want a duster brush to brush of dust excess wich will happen with most papers. And glycine to prevent smearing. However for pastel pencils on a budget they are as good as the derwent ones I think. PS; I told you, just what ypu love and make what you love; we are here for you, your channel. Don't fall for the you must love something. Sometimes you just growout of something; that is not a crime. And I have a full set problem on pencils. Im not buying those lose bc with my luck that always runs out hahaha.

    LOL on the mOuve/ Mauve thing! The older I get the more I question that I even know the meaning to words let alone how to say them!😅 Out here, growing up in California, it was always mauve, with a short ‘a’ sound. I’m now 66 and I use the dictionary more now than I ever have, because I’m always questioning myself if I’m using the right word. First it was the spelling, and now it’s the meaning that’s screwing me up. It’s just some more stuff to look forward to as you get older.
    I definitely have the “I want it all, every color” syndrome! I have a full set of Polychromos colored pencils, and another set of Prismacolors which I bought in the 90s. I just added the new colors. But, I also have a set of Marco Raffine’s that I bought when my kids and I started coloring. I certainly didn’t want to use my good pencils in a coloring book! I also have all of the Inktense watercolor pencils, and the blocks, a full set of Windsor Newton pastels, plus many other incomplete sets. I forgot about the oil pastels, which are thankfully fairly cheap! I have the Craypas Specialist, Expressionist, and the cheap one, plus Crayolas (remarkably good!), some Rembrandts, and a decent size of Mungyo’s Gallery. That isn’t the case with everything, though, I have partial sets of a lot of things. I mean, I don’t buy every single Daniel Smith, Watercolor, or gouache, but I do wish I got all the Neocolor II. The problem is, I’m rather like you in that I dabble in a lot of arts and crafts, and are always changing what I’m doing. Recently I got into alcohol inks. I bought a few sets of those.
    Did you use the right paints on that furniture you painted, you know, paints that were made for that? I have thought about painting my 20 year old leather couches. They need new cushions, too, but I don’t want to invest in those new cushions if the rest of the couch is old looking. Please tell me what you did that I shouldn’t do!
    I haven’t been watching you too much lately, because I started crocheting and that was taking up all of my time. Now that I’m working on gouache and W/C again, I’m back. Sadly, I see that you aren’t putting up as many full tutorials for your non-Patreon watchers. It seems everything is on Patreon these day Though I understand, you need to make money, I remember when it was new and you said you’d never do that to your viewers.🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m just repeating what you said, so don’t shoot the messenger! I do think this subscription thing will eventually fall on its face because you just can’t afford to pay for everything you watch, and I’m talking about TV subscriptions, too. They are nickel and diming us to death! Everybody has a paid channel or streaming service now. They take popular shows off their free network (not really free, because you pay for the cable service already), and try to force you to subscribe for $6 or more to get back what you had. It’s not right! CBS did that with ‘Seal Team,’ it’s now on a separate CBS streaming service. That ticked me off, so I refused to pay for it, knowing that eventually I’d be able to see it somewhere. I was right! CBS just began showing the seasons that they first put on streaming. So, patience wins out! I’m too old and poor to play this game, and I’d rather skip watching it or wait. Waiting does pay off, more often than not. Now, if I could only convince my husband of that!😂
    Anyway, I think your daffodils turned out well. I could have watched anything and I chose to watch this video, so that’s saying something! I love it when you figure things out on a live, or recorded video, and take us through your thinking process. None of us can constantly whip out great art all the time, there are always paintings we dislike. Sometimes coming back to them after days of not looking at it can show you a new perspective and allow you to see what it needs. But, you already know this! I won’t take up anymore of your precious time. Enjoy your holidays! Merry Christmas🎄🎅⛪️

Reviews, real-time tutorials, time lapse tutorials, Sat chat vlogs, and occasional crafts and tips. My real-time tutorials are not that popular, so I don't do as many as it hurts my channel. I still do them, tho. Please look at everything I post before you tell me. I'm not doing enough. I can't please everyone, but I'm doing the best I can.

    I loved the entire time you were painting. You are too ward on your work though. Every stage was beautiful ❤. Oh I was going to type earlier and say that I think as we age we are starting to change up the way we say words lol my husband and kids are constantly making fun of me for saying words differently. Especially buttons. Why the heck I have to pronounce the Ts Ike my life depends on it, I have no clue, nor do I know how to stop… that’s just one example lol keep making videos. I love every one!

    Hullo Lindsay, I enjoyed watching you create this painting! I really like the CarbOThello pastel pencils, I got the full set My Gran always had 2 paintings going at once, she used masking fluid (Masque Pen) to preserve her highlights, so she was always saying just wait a bit, just keep working! She would use a little rubber scrubber expose her highlights and go back to refine any areas she felt need more. She was not a "flicker" or used the spray/spatter techniques that I ever saw. She did just start with a rough drawing like you did at the start of this painting. I believe you should use your M.Graham paints more if they are your true favorite. You put so much pressure on yourself and this leaches the joy of painting with them and you rush because you gotta do a video! I got Steve Mitchell's M.Graham set but I wanted more brighter colors, so what do you recommend? if you were going to fill out say a 24 palette with having his 10 tubes to start with? I did get the Pyrrol Red and Cerulean Blue already to get to 12, but I am just not sure what other 12 colors would fill this palette? I do not know if this is a video idea or just a comment or BLOG post?
    Well I do hope your enjoying your time with your family and I do wish you all health and happiness!

    I have a suggestion. I like to see the finished painting. The end cards for more videos cover up a sizable portion of the painting. Would you consider showing the finished product for a few more seconds before the end cards pop on the screen? Your videos are great. I do like when you do a real time video showing the good, bad and the ugly. LOL

    P.S. Do you ever use your Mimik watercolour brushes anymore? I bought them about 2 years ago based on your recommendation and they're good. Been thinking about your Craftamo brushes and how they might be different. Possible for a short comparison video?

    You test a lot of art supplies and you don't use the M.Graham a lot. Even though they're watercolor they work a bit differently ...I think that's the case. I have it with my Rembrands since I've started to use Aquarius on a local watercolorist workshop as she did😉

    Oh man, it'd be possible to just drop a huge wall of text about social media and how it impacts people, even if they aren't what we might consider "addicted" to it. The ease of access to such an insane volume of content makes it so easy to just consume and consume, and then you just want to consume even more content. And then also the flipside of that and people needing to produce so much content to consume. It's a wild and vicious cycle.
    I do think it's important to talk about these things a little bit sometimes, so please don't feel bad about broaching the topic at times.

  • @felicitycrowe6971

    Personally, I would really love to see you work on a painting of the size that you really want to do and in the time that you really want to take, and not feel the need to be constantly talking to your audience! I know it would require a different set up and a different style of video, but I would really get a lot out of it! I think there is an enormous amount to be learned by simply sitting back and watching experts work in a manner that gives them the most joy and satisfaction … maybe you need to accommodate your own enjoyment more than you accommodate anything to do with UA-cam (including us, the audience) …

    Man, I just tried this on a watercolor card, and it is a HOT. MESS. I keep trying to fix it, and I'm only making it worse. 🤣 The worst part is that this was intended to be a Mother's Day card for my boyfriend's mom, and you know how you always want to try impressing the in-laws, at least when you're first starting out! Or maybe that's just me and my intense anxiety! Whatever it is, I have to keep telling myself "Cards are meant to be disposable, and she'll probably just be tickled to get a card at all...even though it's going to be a week late..." (Time management, what's that?)
