  • So today we are talking about Kayo ATVs and Kayo Dirt bikes because you asked for it! I have experience selling, riding, and trying to work on Kayo offroad vehicles so I will give you my perspective on this. The Kayo Bull 125, bull 150, and bull 200 were the best selling models in the ATV segment while the Kayo 230 and kayo 250 dirt bikes just didn't do well at all.
Chinese ATVs and Chinese dirt bikes are a pretty basic premise...you get what you pay for.

I live in WA and the used dirt bike market is ridiculous right now.. People want $3k for their 20 year old bikes that are clapped out. Seen an ad for brand new Kayo 230 dirt bikes for $2400 so thats why im here lol

Well for the price it might be a great bike for you! As i said you usually either get a great one, or one that will require fixing regularly...it's a dice roll. At least you can usually get parts, so if that's your best option for the money in your area and you are willing to work in it if needed, then it's not the worst thing out there

Welll I ended up looking at one and with the added taxes and fees I couldn’t pull the trigger. The build quality was too cheap to justify $3k. Maybe if it was $1500 I would have.

Alex, we are a dealership that has been selling them for about a year. Thus far, we have had very few "come backs", and even in the COVID-19 year, parts have not been a problem. The only real problem has been getting enough units to meet demand. I was pretty concerned about the quality and sustainability, but several dealers I talked to indicated experience just like what we have seen. I think it must make a difference when the owner of the company has a Honda engineering background, and understands what is necessary to provide and support a reasonable quality product. We also sell Honda, so it has been interesting to compare the sales volumes and results. It will be interesting to see how things work over time, but at this point we are fairly convinced that while you get what you pay for, it may still be a pretty good value proposition. Best regards, and keep up the good work!

Well i'm buying a Kayo predator 125 for my son, for his first ATV. I looked everywhere for a used ATV "name brand" and couldn't find anything worth buying. They were either beat the hell out off or they wanted a couple fingers for the price. Found a 85 HONDA FOURTRAX 50. These crazy people wanted 2K$ for it, but it was in nice shape. So I talked to a friend of mine, who's family owns a Harley Dealership, I told him I started looking into these KAYOs. He told me he has 3 of them. Bought 2 for his sons and 1 for himself. Said he never had any problems with them. Still has them he said. He said yeah little things will have to be fixed but as long as u take care of them, like any bike, they'll last a long time. Then I found out my other friend bought his kid a Chinese 110 panther a couple yrs ago, used, and he hasn't had any problems with his.
So I figured what the hell, for my kids first ATV that he's probably going to out grow in a few years, why the hell not. Plus it beats spending damn near 4K$ for a ATV that my kid will probably outgrow in a few yrs.

We have three of these bikes, K2, K4 and K6EFI. We absolutely love them. We do mainly trail and off road riding. You can buy aftermarket parts for these, we've found it's mainly KTM and Honda. The biggest problem I've noticed with these is they're target market is entry level buyers which also means inexperienced. It doesn't matter what brand of bike you bought I personally believe you gotta go through it, and double check bolts, fluid levels and get it set up for the rider. The engine oil in these should be replaced after one hour. I know that might sound crazy to some people but any new engine no matter the manufacturer is going to have a break in period where you'll want to get rid of that oil. You can avoid allot of problems with proper maintenance.

    • @roypatterson9910
      @roypatterson9910 2 роки тому

No, you are right on, you should always change your oil on a new bike after the first hour of breaking it in, and you should repeat this at least three times to make sure you get all those shavings out once you break in the engine, after that it's every 10 hours of riding, at least that's what I do.

I am new at looking into Kayo, so maybe what am going to say is of no use. You are the first one I have heard that said anything negative. In the one conversation that someone said something negative, the original poster came back to say that his problem was a loose wire and since that time had no issues. I realize that videos from dealers are going to be favorable so they can sell them and just the opposite from dealers who don't sell them. I've looked at one and it looks pretty nice if I do say so. Haven't ridden or owned one yet so that is a limiting factor. Thanks for the video.

If you don't have much money, mechanically inclined and can locate parts on the internet, the Chinese stuff will work. The Chinese 150cc GY6 motor/transmission is low power but reliable. The rest of the Chinese ATV is unrefined and not as durable as the major brands. I seem to take the Tao Tao more often because it is much easier to load and transport.

@@mannyferrao1013 I bought a Kayo 125 ATV two years ago for my daughter. I am NOT happy with the purchase. It was way overpriced. It is the exact same engine as the other Chinese brands. I could have paid 1/2 to 1/3 of the price for a TaoTao or Xpro. Kayo is marketed as something better than regular Chinese crap but it is still crap. Out of the box, like all the Chinese crap, it needed an aftermarket carburetor to keep it running. After playing with it for 15 minutes, EVERY TIME, before each use, just to get it started, it ran so lean that it was probably going to overheat and blow up. The power was so weak that I had to re-gear it. It almost climbs moderate hills now but the top end is SLOOOOOOOW. It might be okay for a child less than 60 pounds. It is so bad that my daughter won't even ride it. She prefers my $600 pull start Massimo MB200S mini bike. The Kayo 125 only has about 5 hours on it. It has been sitting for 2 years, a couple days after I bought. I was so embarrassed. I really thought that I bought her something nice. She was the laughing stock of her friends. Just bought a brand new 2020 Kayo 250cc dual sport in Waco, Tx. First bike ever. I live about an hour away from the dealership that I bought it. I’ve had it for about 3 months now and already having problems. It’s making sounds that it didn’t make when I first bought it. Like when I shift or come to stop it clicks and clanks. I’m thinking the chain is loose. I’ve been trying to get that back right axle loosened, but have been unsuccessful. I’m afraid I’m going to strip the bolt. Also the blinkers stopped working. The real pain in the butt is they’re no bike shops that can help
me with this and I have no way of transporting the bike. Any tips on how to fix these problems?

I guess you are right, I have recently purchased a fox70 for my daughter and after just 6months the chain came off as the cogs and rear axle were not properly aligned. My brother in law adjusted it last week. Other than that though, it has not skipped a beat, and it is thrashed by a 4year old speed demon for hours on end every Saturday and most sundays. I just changed the oil, oil the chain, pressure wash and occasionally tap out the air filter. Great little bike, but I am wondering how long she gets out of it before she breaks it 💁

Also, randomly the electric start and kick start stopped working when the bike was cold. Was able to pop start it and once it was warm, both start functions started working again.
Does legit anybody know wtf could be wrong with the bike? I feel kind of bad, I more or less made him decide to get a Kayo instead of a FB marketplace bike he was looking at 😶

I can tell you that my 2 kayo bull 200cc, purchased brand new and with only 50 miles on both of them, broke down simultaneously on a tame trail ride after about 45 minutes. Both bikes seemed to have overheated, and one of them to the degree that it melted its own heat guard. We were stranded in known bear territory at our family farm. It was super fun!! Luckily I had an ancient honda fourtrax that runs 8 million times better back at our barn and a good tow strap to retrieve one at a time. Again we were going like 15 mph, plotting way points in GPS. This was not a dogging situation or mud immersion, etc. The dealership of course "could not replicate". They did admit in the service dept that "yeah, we find these bikes don't like to be run much longer than 30 minutes at a time"

Avoid these bikes at all cost. We took a chance and bought the 2021 T2 as a beginner dirtbike for my partner. On the first ride the chain dislodged inside the casing on a 35 mile ride. Our local dealership was able to convince Kayo to give us a replacement. Now the replacement bike they gave us won't start. The battery died after one ride and right now it is sitting at our dealer because we can't get it started. I will say that when it runs it is a super powerful engine. The bike handles like a mountain bike with a 230cc engine underneath. It is super light but it does not feel as safe or sturdy like my 2021 CRF 250F.
Nothing but problems so far with this bike. We realized that it was not worth it to buy a cheap $3000 bike and now I am nervous whenever we go on long rides. Do yourselves a favor and spend your $3000 on a used Honda.
