Wow Harley that's wonderful. In the 1950s when I was a young lad my Dad brought one home for me strapped on the back of his 1938 P4 three wheeler Morgan!!. The pedal car was green,, having red wheels and a red bonnet, held down by a leather strap. I used to go to the shops in it for my Mom and put the shopping in the boot behind the seat. Looking forward to watching you restore it...
What a great project Harley. I'm sure your 'followers' will be watching every video you do regarding the restoration of this rarity, and egging you on towards your A* ! Well done and good luck. Take care 🙂
What a fantastic addition to the fleet,I’m sure you with a little help from dad will have a great time doing a sympathetic restoration on this rarity. Good luck and enjoy
What an exciting project, both for you and your viewers. Looking forward to watching reports on progress with the restoration. With the greatest respect to your old man, I suspect it might complete before the A40 restoration! 😀 Hope you enjoyed your time in the lovely scenery around Inverness. Sadly, the Highlands beyond there are now spoilt by the lunacy of the NC500........
I watched this a few days ago and wish you very well doing the restoration and seeing your dedication am sure you will get top marks in your a level exams.
It is going to be interesting to watch this restoration project develop. Hats off to Graham and a wonderful story. Good experience for you Harley. It has been fascinating to watch both your channel and yourself develop over the past couple of years or so. I am now just waiting for your driving licence pass journey and pass I have absolutely no doubt you will and that will open a whole new dimension to your channel. The music you use in your soundtrack is cool, I love it. If it is any consolation I loathed maths at my grammar school and usually played the "nick" with a couple of friends. I am in no way advocating that but it did't do me any harm for my later economics degree and I have been successful in my business life. Algebra I couldn't at the time see the point of it, the same applies to calculus. I think I will pass on the many boring hours spent in the physics labs. We have spreadsheets and laptops now, far more convenience and fun.
Thanks, I also can't wait for the big 17! As to Maths, I have no interest in seemingly random maths such as algebra related things, but i do have an interest in Mathematics that can actualy be used in the real world, or the car restoration world 👍
What a find! I was not aware of this great looking little car. Lucky was the child that could drive it around the neighborhood and show it off. Good luck with the project Harley.
What a super, dooper video, Harley! What a great find and perfect project for your one of you A levels. I am really excited at the prospect of following you through to success in both restoration and academics! You and dad are truly restoration stars. I love following you both through the wonder of the ether, despite old age and old laptop through most of your work since virtually the beginning.! Thank you! And it is amazing how you have adopted/adapted dad's presentation style, which is understandable., enjoyable and warming: it a heartening glimp into a caring, loving family - a real privilege! Rob
Thanks for your kind comment Rob, I am looking forward to tinkering with it a bit more, it is currently sat right infront of me in the living room in the house!
Get a micro and/or don't record entries on spits like this one. Regardless, you're a pretty sweet guy. Keep up the good work. You're very committed, that's really sweet.
The Austin Pedal Car Company offer spares for the J40 pedal cars but I don't think so for the Pathfinders, I've heard of a Pathfinder specialist who I will get in touch with
Engineering at 'A' level would have been a great idea, shame it fell through. No doubt the EPQ will go well. Documenting the restoration on video combines old-timey and modern stuff very well.
That's so disappointing that they pulled the engineering course. No wonder we have only the tatters of our historic manufacturing industries in Britain. However, im sure you will learn a lot from this project, especially with Dad's help and guidance. Good luck with it.
The pair of you have made a great find and this car restoration will provide a great project for school and great entertainment for us. Additionally you will learn things that will just as easily be useful in restoring a full size vehicle so this really is fantastic. The very best of luck to you Harley and I'm really looking forward to upcoming videos on the project.
Thats great im looking forward to your restoration of the Pathfinder. I built my son a morris minor based on the J40 dimensions. ( I always thought Morris should have made a peddle car). It was sulpted in 'American wax' like the car stylists used in 1950s. I then made a mold in fibreglass and produced 2 bodies from it. It was never going to be pedal power though but had a Sinclair C5 motor. I originally had a Morris Traveller for transportation back then. Now ive just aquired a very nice Traveller again. So will be taking the little moggy to shows. Great video Harley ( and pop).
There you go what a good find. I will definitely be interested in this restoration. It triggers memories for me of midget speedway racers . I went to the speedway here at Western Springs Speedway in Auckland city NZ back in the 1960s. If you Google speedway midgets nz 1950s / 60s it will show you the racing cars. Your pedal car is like them. The project will keep you busy for sometime Harley.
What a find 😮 A great project I had a j40 my father sold it for £5 to the local butcher when I was 10 years old😊😊all the best with it Harley😮thanks for video Can you get parts from anywhere?
Great little project Harley! I suppose one approach you could take would be to restore the bodywork to 'as new' condition then leave it outside for 'The Big Guy Upstairs' to do his work for a couple of years. On the subject of midget racers check out Ivan Dutton (Shed Racing), also see if you can get your hands on a DVD of 'The Big Wheel' , a movie from the late forties starring Mickey Rooney. some good bits of stock footage in that including some Indy action.
Your dad said he would like to hear from people who had one of these. I was one of those people, but sadly appart from saying they looked nice, all my other comments are going to be negative. As a man in his late seventies, I now know about the steel shortage after the war, and find it very hard to understand why Austin made the car from such heavy gauge metal. Stick with that, as much of what follows comes from it. Basically the thing was so heavy that I couldn’t pedal it except on a slight down hill gradient. The pedals didn’t help either, as the simple mechanism your father commented on was great for the axle end, but left 3,4, or 5 year old legs with a straight back and forward motion that was most uncomfortable even for my chubby legs. I think that the real problem was that Austin was not a toy maker. My snobby mother would have done much better for me if she had bought a toy car from Triang, which was smaller, lighter, and driven by pedals that went round and round and were therefore much easier. The only time I really enjoyed my racing car was when my elder sister was pushing me.

This is a great wee project and great way you’ve presented it. Brilliant Harley
Wow what a fantastic story great find I envy you both in a nice way to have so much energy and enthusiasm. great find and you both are so thorough 😊

Good on you Harley and good luck with that a great project will follow you with it the end result will be amazing , Cheers
That's a great project and not much smaller than the real thing.

Yes part of the idea was to learn bodywork skills that could be applied on a full sized car
What a brilliant project for your A Levels, Harley. I look forward to regular updates over the coming months. Best of luck!

I believe there was a Morris Minor pedal car that looks quite similar to a J40 a few years back, thanks
@CarTractionvids yes but it was just a J40 with a minor front.

Can you get parts from anywhere?
There is a Pathfinder specialist in the UK, I will have to get in touch with him
Have you seen Dominic Chinea on UA-cam restoring a. J40, just finished it, very bling.
🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎
Had one of these growing up , not sure what happened to it .
Correction F4 Morgan, not P4

Hi Harley if you are looking for any more pedal cars,
Let me know your email address and I will send you some photos 👍.
Hi, it'd be interesting to see them, can you email rj@oldclassiccar.co.uk thanks
