  • Hi! This time we're going to give this old Packard Clipper a home so it doesn't get melted down and made into 7 or 8 Yarii. This old girl has seen way better days, but I wanted one for the CWMC used-car lot to class the place up a bit. Thanks for joining us as we take a little look around this straight-8-powered beauty. It's equipped with the Ultramatic transmission, Packard's own automatic. No power steering in this one, though! This car was originally a light grey with a black top and grey interior. At some point it seems like it was repaired after an accident on the left front corner and repainted this green with a white top.
I'm not sure what to do with this Packard, but I just wanted it anyway. Maybe we'll try sometime to get it going again? Let us know what you think.
Thanks for watching this stuff; I enjoy sharing these junkyard gems with you. Please subscribe to the coldwarmotors channel if you like this kind of thing!
    Cheers from me and Stella.

On the strength of watching this video I went out and bought a 51 Packard 200. The only thing is I live in Yorkshire, England. This means undoubtedly I am the guy with 'the Packard' !!!! Seen as I will need at least an airplane to see another, please please please can you make another video on your Clipper ?
Many thanks guys. Keep the good work up !

Make that old Packard a driver. She deserves it. I'd like to see you do to it what you have been doing to your Frazier. I love your channel. Making them run but keeping their character. Gun and guitar collectors have been collecting like this for decades; They want them to work but they don't want the wear and "patina" poshished away. Love it.

    • @coldwarmotors

+siegel197866 Hi, thanks for the note. Glad you liked the Frazer project... almost finished now! I would like to put this Packard together and drive it, but I think it's probably a little too rough to be worth trying. The engine is seized and there is a lot of rust and old collision damage to sort out. I am kind of hoping to find another one and combine the two to make one good one. I am happy to hear from others who appreciate letting a car "wear" its history... Cheers from me and Stella!

Well done guys for saving one of these good looking old Packards ... I hear they would sometimes suffer a broken valve if over revved , this might be why the motor is seized - not too difficult to fix if so , and I hope you get it running again soon . It is a real Find !

My first car was a 1946 Packard Clipper. Packard used the same top grill bar design for about five decades. Also look for the hexagon hubcaps. The spear chrome up in front is another Packard styling feature.

I love this car, would love it even more restored, but it would cost a ton of money. My '54 Olds Super 88 Holiday Coupe used 760-15 size tires. Back then I got only 12K or so miles before new tires or recaps were needed. Thanks for showing this baby right off the fork lift. My family owned a 1941 Pontiac black fast back tudor with flat head straight eight similar to the Packard. I cut my teeth on that car, painted the wheels red and tires white with special rubber based "whitewall" paint available back then.

  • @El_Chompo
    @El_Chompo 7 років тому +4

I think this is my favorite car out of all the ones you have. I just love the styling and attention to detail everywhere. "Ask the man who owns one." Hah that's a great slogan. I remember Jay Lenno saying that when he was giving a tour of one of his Packards. I think I remember from his video too that these were extremely high quality cars.
Toyota also has the "Ask someone who drives one." or did have that motto several years ago I remember from commercials. For these companies to be saying things like this, you know they care about their product and put so much time and effort into it that it will prove itself and needs to special advertising. I think they worked really hard on making that Packard a nice car.
If you don't have too many projects going on right now :) maybe you could work on that Packard next. It seems to be in really good shape.

Jeff Hull--- I worked in Amesbury mass and near the old factory and older home part of town, I found a 1956 Packard Clipper on a road I would walk down from my one of my first jobs in 1987 and wanted to buy it so bad. I never did, and it got hauled away and I never saw that happen. It was in good solid condition, no rust, it had clipper (tall Ships) embossed on it's original hubcaps still also. The Engine was missing the whole top of it though, including the Carborator. The License plate on the car, was dated 1972. Too bad I let that slip away!

My dad had a 53 Packard Patrician. This was in about 1957-58 time period. It was a former funeral car, black with grey interior. It had 2 small fold out seats that folded out of the back of the front seats facing the rear so could hold 8 people easily. It had a Frigidare AC unit that was in the trunk, little scoops just to the rear of the back doors on each side and the AC came out of 2 outlets in the package tray behind the rear seat. I was 16 in 1958 and drove it as little as possible, hated to be seen in it, now I wish I had it. I remember one time a bunch of us went to the drive in theatre and had 14 of us in it on $1.00 a car load nite. An other goofy thing about it was to start it you turned on the ign. switch and have it in park and lift the gear lever and it cranked over..couldn't even hear that old straight eight idle................Bob M.

I love your adventures with these beauties... I am also the proud owner of the tri-tone coloured Edsel that you saw when you picked up the '57 Stude... I may even consider grabbing #16 that you, Stella, and Doug were checking out beside the Monarch.

I'd love to see a will it run series on this beauty.

Oh! Well, it looks like a few other people would, too! I guess I'd better try when the weather warms up...
