    To clarify: There is a spot on the circuit board where you could connect a 5-pin female connector. So if entirely removing the default joystick, you can use a pcb type joystick instead but you will still need to get the appropriate wire/connector combo.
    The way this stick comes is two sets of two loose wires running to the circuit board and connecting via four individual slots.

    Appreciate the review, I'm buying my first fight stick after playing tekken 7 at the arcade (i have been playing t8 with a controller on PC so it was a great way to see if stick was a potential for me!). Seems like the F700 is the way to go for now and attempt a stick swap later with your eventual video. Currently same price as the F500 elite on amazon ($150 USD), so it is one of those things where its like "do i get the older, better components or go with the newer refresh/features and mod later?". I never really knew how extension the modding is with fight sticks, just looking at the focus attack site can overwhelm a newbie. However I look forward into getting more into it. Thanks again for your review, it was really informational!!!

    Excellent review! Especially the comparison between the F500 and F700.
    I recently bought a Mayflash F500 V2 and the first thing I noticed is that the buttons on the Mayflash F700 are a little further away from the lever. I prefer the buttons closer to the lever. Other than that, the Mayflash F700 has significant improvements.
    The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity give it an impressive leap in quality and is also something that all its competitors lack? or most of them. Also, I think that now the connection to PS3 and PS4 is direct via USB and not using a PS3/PS4 compatible gamepad as a link between the Mayflash arcade sitck and the console. It continues to maintain compatibility with retro systems and also, as in these cases, improves it.
    Furthermore, if the Mayflash F300/F500 were already easy to customize to change buttons and lever, now the Mayflash F700 is even easier. There are almost no other cables crossing with the button cables. And the same if you want to change the lever for a Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT or similar Sanwa lever or the Seimitsu LS-XX-01. It would be enough to connect one end of the 5-pin JST-XH cable to the 5-pin connector of the new lever and the other end of the 5-pin cable to the 5-pin connector of the Mayflash F700 main circuit board.
    As a major point of loss, the Mayflash F700 has lost the compatibility with Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S that the Mayflash F300/F500 have. Not sure about the Xbox 360... On the Mayflash UA-cam channel they said that the version of the F700 for Xbox will arrive a little before summer. But it's a slight disappointment that they haven't achieved full compatibility on a single device.
    On the other hand, another aspect to improve would have been if they had put 2 more buttons for the L3/R3. If they had added those buttons, what reasons would customers have to buy other more expensive, less compatible, competing arcade sticks without Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth connectivity?

      Hey there! I'm glad you enjoyed the review! I always strive to see what I can add to a review video outside of simply reviewing something by itself, and the comparison felt like one way to keep things interesting, engaging for the audience, and more useful. That's an interesting observation you made with the button placement being different on the f700 compared to the f500 V2!
      You bring up a number of great points. Also, the f700 definitely pushes things forward, and it's just a matter of time before Mayflash achieves full compatibility. Thanks so much for watching!

    The one thing (and it's something that I actually discussed at length with Mayflash QA/support) that I would love to see in either an F700 Pro or a future F900 is a detachable USB. As it is, the cable can only be replaced by opening up the case and removing it from the board. I'd love to see a stock model with a PCB-attached USB port for easily unplugging and replacing a cable. Despite that minor gripe, I really do think Mayflash still offers the best overall value for purchasing a new arcade stick in 2024. Whether it's for fighting games, shmups, general arcade emulation, etc. Mayflash just happens to have a great balance of value and quality.

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  10 місяців тому +1

      I totally agree with this. One thing I liked about the Fusion by PowerA arcade stick was the detachable USB cable. I also feel the same way about Mayflash. Their overall build quality of their different models is solid and, other than the occasional hiked up price, they are reasonably priced. I recently heard Mayflash is doing a leverless in the near future, which I'm excited to check out as well. I think one more modern implementation I'd like to see going forward is their take on an easy-open method like some of the other sticks where you can just press a button and swing the bottom panel open for immediate access to the interior. I like the screw method for sure but as I find myself constantly needing to double-check things now that I'm doing more arcade stick videos, it would be a convenient thing and not be so time consuming. On that note, when I have a display case, I'll likely have all the bottom plates loose to begin with. Thanks for watching!

    I got a Hori Alpha for Christmas and it's great. However, if this had been out notably before then, I probably would've picked this up for the all around features. And I have ps5, which most of the truly budget options just don't work with consistently. Also looks like it now includes a 5 pin connector for the joystick and that's awesome. I definitely like that this is a bit larger than the other mayflash options but not quite as "full lap" size or bigger like most. And stick swapping or not, I know a lot of their stuff is usually compatible with sanwa springs and actuators, so that might help tighten up that stick feel for cheap too.

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  8 місяців тому

      Yeah, I didn't point that out in the video and it was hidden under the wires but it's great this has a 5-pin slot! It still means disconnecting the joystick itself will render it more or less unusable unless I get into soldering, which I'm not planning on doing any time soon. How is the Hori Alpha? I haven't looked much into that one. Thanks for watching!

    • @Jarrych83
      @Jarrych83 8 місяців тому +1

      @Shmuptopia I like it a lot overall. I don't have a ton of comparison experience, but it all feels solid and I do see that their brand of components get well reviewed relative to Sanwa and Seimitsu. Nice size, maybe a bit less solid feeling than ones with more metal in the body, but I have no complaints. I'm no pro by any stretch, though. It'd be lovely if it had a detachable cord, easier to swap art, etc, but not the end of the world. Got an alternate spring and an octo gate from focus attack and that's been delightful. Oh, playing Streets 4, some OG scrolling shooters, and Pac-Man have been solid in addition to the modern fighters

    Hello! Thanks for the great video, I was about to buy the F500 ELITE because of the sanwa buttons when I noticed that there is a new wireless model, I have many doubts about which one to buy, mostly because of the sanwa buttons. Would it be possible to change the buttons and the joystick for sanwa ones on the f700 model(I am a newbie in this stuff, so I have no idea.)? Which of the two is more convenient to buy F500 elite or F700, since they are almost the same price. Thank you very much for your answer.

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  8 місяців тому +2

      Hey there, thanks for checking this out. Yes, you can change the buttons and stick on the f700 if you want something else in there. I think there are a few things to consider. If you are set on Sanwa buttons and don't want to buy them separately, then the f500 Elite saves you from having to do that. If you don't mind getting your own Sanwa buttons, then putting new buttons into the f700 is easy. The stick in the f700 can be removed. If you intend to use the pre-existing wires, then you'd need to use a soldering iron since the stick is a fastener type, not a PCB type. If you're installing a PCB type, then you'd likely want a 5-pin to 5-pin female wire for a more convenient connection. Another thing to think about is how much does being able to play wirelessly mean to you? Ultimately it's up to you. Both are great options. If you want wireless with the option to change buttons and a little hassle to change the stick, go with the f700. If you don't need wireless, and don't want the extra task of swapping buttons and the stick, go with the f500. Trust this helps and all the best! Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Man, I have two sticks now (the f500 and 8bitdo) hard to justify getting a third one but it looks like Mayflash is stepping up their game. you’re not kidding with mayflash new packaging. Waaaay better than the last one.
    I just checked the product page and it looks like Mayflash has provided the artwork template already like their f500, the issue being you’ll have to cut it yourself.
    I think the price is steep, especially since it’s not sanwa parts but I guess you’re paying for the wireless and ps5 compatibility.

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  10 місяців тому

      Yeah, if I'm not mistaken, this is Mayflash's first wireless controller and I'm sure a number of people will like the PS5 compatibility right out of the box. I forgot to specify that they do indeed have their own template. I think the tricky thing would be printing off the correct size of art to match whereas the cutting would probably be a simpler task. Photopea is great for uploading a template and then adjusting your art position over top, so you can see what it would look like but I'm not sure what to do after the fact. I kind of doubt the template would be designed to print at the correct size already, but who knows for sure. No worries, two sticks is plenty! Thanks for watching, Fran!

    Certainly looks good. I think I would be willing to get this for Switch since I don't have a Switch-compatible stick, but now that I'm back to practicing shmups again, I'm still more enticed than ever by leverless (in light of the directional input errors that get me killed once every so often). Knowing myself, I'd likely end up having both within the next few years.
    I like the aesthetic and the size, and if a template for custom art gets made, that'd be one more reason for me to keep it in mind. Thanks for sharing.

Leverless is fun and the learning curve is certainly a big factor but if you're all about lapping up the experience, you'll be fine. Yeah, the template for the f700 is a must at this point! I'd be interested to hear your opinions on various levers. I recently picked up an LS-56 myself and while it is very precise I just couldn't make it work for me. I find that I need my lever to be as fast and easy to move as possible. I picked up a 0.5lb spring (standard is 1lb) and put it in my JLF with a 1mm oversized actuator and it was like flipping a switch. For the first time I actually felt comfortable using it. I'm still not very experienced with stick so I'm curious how someone who uses one a lot more judges the various options out there.

      @Shmuptopia  10 місяців тому +2

      Hey, Chino! Thanks for swinging by as always. I appreciate your time and input. Yeah, I can totally understand that. I like a certain degree of fluidity but it also depends on the game, of course. The plan is to do a video in the near future (things are just very swamped these days) comparing the LS-32, 40, 56, and 62. Another video will cover tweaking the jlf specifically (but that will mainly be the stock 1lb, 2lb and 4lb spring options. If I can track down a 0.5, I'd be all for seeing how I feel about that as well. In addition to that, while not levered, I'll be covering some leverless controllers soon enough as well - and I'm getting closer and closer to doing Mega Man, just need to get some projects off of my plate before I buckle down with too many other things. Either way, glad you're feeling more comfortable now with the way you have things set up! That's fantastic! Thanks again and have a pleasant evening.

    2 Questions for you. The wire on my Madcatz TE has finally died (can't wiggle and re-wiggle it until it registers forever), is a replacement cable easy to re-attach to the PCB?
    I've bought an F700 for the compatibility (seems to work on everything) and for just having a spare. If I don't like this loose feel, how would you rate the difficulty of replacing the joystick for a smooth brain like myself?

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  5 місяців тому

      Hey Marcus, great questions! To answer your first, I don't have experience changing out a non-functional wire, so I've never actually looked at how it is attached and am not sure what the best option would be for you. That said, I'm eventually going to get around to making a series that covers all sorts of modding and replacement processes for those completely new to those sorts of activities. There's always a possibility that a wire replacement process could be covered, but no guarantee.
      To answer your second question, changing the joystick on the f700 is very easy! The series idea I mentioned above will absolutely include a brief tutorial covering this. In the meantime, if you would like me to share a private explanation video that I did for someone else who wondered about changing sticks on the f700, I can certainly share that link. I don't want these unofficial videos floating around, so let me know if you want it and I'll leave it up for a day or so before removing the link. The alternative is to wait for my actual tutorial video. Either way is fine with me and if you have any other questions or require assistance, let me know. Thanks for watching!

    It looks like the lever has 5 wires going to it, so I’d imagine someone could just snip them and marrette/heat-shrink them to a JLF harness (they would have to trace out the right wires of course to make sure and do it right, but that’s kinda what I had to do when I stuck a JLF in my Arcade1Up).
    But yeah, the spring-back on that stick was nuts 😂. I’d imagine it would definitely hit the opposing direction and maybe even rattle against both direction switches a few times lol

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  10 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching and for catching that! Yeah, there are two wires connected to each of the four metal tongues, and each of those sets of two go into their own little two-wire connection area not sure what the correct term is) on the circuit board. I don't recall if that end of things specifically is sautered or if it's four individual clip-in ends. I'll need to take a closer look sometime tonight. The wobble is wild. I've come to enjoy using larger balltops, which are of course heavier and can only imagine what the slow motion would look like with those on ha. Thanks again, man!

    Thank you for making this review. I have a question that I have not been able to find a clear answer for. For the actual stick component can you not remove the entire thing? I'm looking to upgrade from a mayflash f300 and move the stick and buttons over to this one. On the website it says it has a 5-pin connector so I'm assuming I can install a Sanwa JLF stick. However everywhere else I look they say the same thing you said. I don't think I understand what the soldering part means.

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  10 місяців тому +1

      Hey there, thanks for reaching out about this. I was not as clear with my meaning as I could have been in the video, so I'll explain in greater detail.
      So, there is a spot on the circuit board (it is hidden under the wires in the video, so you cannot see it) where you could insert a 5-pin connector. They most likely (but I haven't tested it yet myself) included this so that people can use it with that sort of connection type.
      You can certainly remove the entire joystick, it's just that you will either need to have wires that go from the joystick to the circuit board in sets of two - since it has four individual slots on the circuit board or have a 5-pin to 5-pin wire like the Mayflash f500 Elite (and possibly the non-Elite version) comes with.
      I don't have the f300, so I'm not sure what kind of wiring situation they did for that one. Is it 5-pin to 5-pin? If so, you could definitely remove the JLF and experiment with that 5-pin slot on the f700 circuit board.
      The soldering part is just that, if you ever want to remove the wires from the joystick that comes with the f700, you'd need a soldering iron to do so and if you ever want to use that stick elsewhere, you'd need to solder it with whatever new wires you're dealing with in a different arcade stick. I trust this helps!

      That is really strange! I wonder what happened to it. Is it that you get literally zero response from any given input or do some things still function? Does the V2 have any sort of indicator LED? If so, does it still light up or is that also toast? I would love to get my hands on it and take a look. Depending on how involved you want to get, you could always isolate the components and test them individually to narrow the source of the problem. To answer your question, it's tricky to say which one might be more durable since I haven't had the f700 for very long and my time on it is fairly insubstantial compared to the f500 Elite. I just know that the f500 holds up and has been a community go-to for a fair chunk of time but with the features the f700 offers, it may be more to your liking. • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  10 місяців тому +1

      Hey there! Thanks so much for sharing your questions and it's no problem at all.
      So, there are a couple of main angles to this. If you're specifically after keeping the price down while also getting Sanwa components, then definitely snag the f500 Elite because you'll have it for life. I personally don't need Sanwa parts when I get an arcade stick since I always switch it out for Seimitsu buttons and whatnot, so if I were buying a Mayflash for the first time, I'd just go with the f500 non-elite version. That said, the f700 is still a fantastic option due to the versatility and to answer your question, yes, you can still plug in via USB or wireless for Windows/Mac. Use this page to confirm: www.mayflash.com/product/Wireless_Arcade_Stick_F700.html
      The changes between the f500 and f700 may or may not matter to you depending on your preferences. If you see yourself ever wanting the convenience of wireless, then the f700 is your option out of the f500, f500 Elite, and f700. Glad you enjoyed the video and please let me know if you need anything else from me! All the best with your choice.

      Then i probably might buy the F500 Elite unless there is some "big upgrade" from that one to the F700 wich if i understood from you're reply the biggest change is mainly it being wireless, and of course the sanwa components on the F500 Elite but i have never tried they're stuff to know if it's worth getting´, and the price isn't a worry, i mean 200 euros or less is ideal but i don't mind using a bit more if it's really worth it

      No problem! I would have responded sooner but I was getting the kids ready for sleep. So yeah, either the f500 Elite or f700 will be great and the things I specified are more or less the main considerations at this point. Let me know what mods you might want to do first or aren't sure about and if I haven't already done a video covering these types of things, I can put one together in the near future. It's definitely easier stuff than you might think. Great to hear you have an all-button-controller. I will actually be releasing some review videos in the coming months specifically revolving around various leverless controllers. It's just a matter of getting around to all of these things with limited free time.@@rafdegus4180

      Take your time! Family is always first.
      So, to answer your first question, I'm not even sure about what mods there are.
      I said that because some people told me that I could buy the F500 and change the buttons, which I thought could be called 'modding.'
      But feel free to point out any mods you think are good, and I'll search them up!
      Also, sorry for making this exchange so lengthy, but I just wanted to make sure I was buying something worth the price.
      I feel like the F500, elite or not, is more than enough for now, especially since, from what you referred to, there is not really anything I need that would make the upgrade to the F700 worth it.
      (Just a warning it is really late here so i might be asleep if you do answer this but i feel like i got an idea of what to do now! Thank you so much and i hope you have a great night!)
      Edit: Just got some news saying that the F700 elite will launch in may!
      Kinda pointless but since we were in the topic I felt like i should say it!

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  10 місяців тому +1

      Generally speaking, the main mods in terms of easy-to-do ones are things like changing out the stick, swapping the dustcover, balltop, or buttons, adding art, tension spring, etc. More technical mods would be things like converting a built-in USB cable to a detachable one and things like that. If you have an idea of how you want your arcade stick to look, the usually the first thing is either art of just balltop and buttons - which won't be a problem even for someone without experience. You are correct in saying that the f500, Elite or not, is more than enough for a first stick. Thanks for sharing that about the f700 Elite coming in May!@@rafdegus4180

      Hey, thanks for checking this out. Yeah, no worries - the f500 Elite is solid. I do most of my ordering from FocusAttack. There are various shops but since they have custom print potential, I've just gravitated toward them more than others. When you say custom plate, did you mean print or are you missing a plexi for your f500? If you meant print, here's the exact order item for a custom job for artwork to go under the plexi of the Mayflash f500/f500 Elite: focusattack.com/artwork-print-and-cut-for-venom-ps4-mayflash-f500-universal/
      They function off of a daily total system, so if the available amount is 0, you'll need to wait until the next day. Also, be sure to pay close attention to which options you select via the clickable dropdown menus. For instance, they have specific button cuts for Sanwa, Seimitsu, Crown, and GamerFinger in the one menu and another one for whether you want them to cut out the start button or not. If you are uncertain about anything, you can always check with them before placing an order to make sure nothing is messed up. Furthermore, they provide an editor that you can use to load the template, then drop art overtop to see how things look. I've been meaning to do an entire tutorial on just how to order this since there are a number of ins and outs that some people might not be sure about when first ordering a custom print. Question do you know the Balltop length (35mm,39mm) on a mayflash f500 v2?

      @Shmuptopia  8 місяців тому

      Hey, great question! I've never looked into the f500 v2 before, so I wouldn't quote me on this, but I would be amazed if it wasn't using a standard 35mm.

    The F300 and F500 have bad input lag compared to other sticks. I wonder how this performs there.

      One viewer said that they asked Mayflash and their response was 1ms. I believe that’s right up there with Brook, so Mayflash either improved things or their response was not accurate.

      If you're after Sanwa parts, or other parts from various companies such as Seimitsu, IL, Crown, etc., check out Focus Attack. Their website has a lot of parts and accessories available.

    There's a 5 pin connecter just below the the other cables.

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for popping in! I likely wasn’t clear enough but I’m aware of the 5pin on the circuit board. It’s just that the joystick itself doesn’t have the same connector. I find dealing with joystick+circuit board that is 5pin to 5pin to be super convenient as opposed to 5pin to all loose wires. That way, you can always just remove the entire joystick if need be without needing to buy another wire.

    f300 $30 usd ebay brand new. Spend another $30 on arcade shock or focus attack whatever for a new stick and buttons set, joystick mods, balltop, springs etc. And you have a fully modded, perfect stick for $60 (for pc)

      From what I understand, they don't sell directly from their page as each product has a link to the main place(s) to actually purchase. I could be mistaken though. Either way, Amazon is usually the main source if tracking down any given stick.

      Yeah, I'm not sure why it wasn't included. If it is, it's not on their list on the product page. I'd imagine a dongle would still provide access, though not everyone will want to have that extra cost thrown into the mix.

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  3 місяці тому

      Sanwa is essentially a reputable company widely regarded for their quality products. Generally speaking, if you hear someone mention "Sanwa parts", there's a good chance they are referring to a Sanwa joystick, Sanwa buttons, etc. Some people swear by Sanwa, but ultimately it boils down to preference. Trust this helps. Let me know if there's anything specific you're wondering about and I'll see what I can do or perhaps someone else will chime in. Thanks for checking this out.
