This summer one of my Aphonopelmas escaped. I thought I did a pretty thorough search, but to no avail. For a couple of weeks afterward I habitually checked every corner of every room that I entered; I listened for any sound that could be my poor spider; I checked inside my shoes before I put them on. By week 3 I gave up and figured it was a goner, probably killed by one of my dogs. Then, 21 days after escape, I opened a drawer under my bed and there it was! My bedroom is on the opposite side of the house as the spider enclosure. It seems that for the better part of a month I was sleeping with a little monster under my bed! Yeah, it was thirsty and hungry, but it was a great relief to get a happy ending.
Yea similar thing happened with my snake. She’s a corn snake tho so not really as big an issue as a tarantula as she doesn’t bite or anything and is super friendly. Looked everywhere for her an figured I must have thrown her out with the rubbish as I put that out a day or 2 before I noticed she escaped. Then 6 weeks later I’m sorting out the recycling and out she pops from under it all or the cupboard behind it. She jus popped her head up right in front of my face as if to say “hi I’m back!! Now feed me please” she must have gone on a right mission looking for food lol as it was due her time to be fed when she escaped which is probably why she went “walk/slither about”. I’d literally just got used to the fact that she was likely gone an I wouldn’t see her again then bam, there she is.
@@herbalterrorist420Same thing with my King Snake. Got out (before I could afford an enclosure with a lock) and was gone for two weeks. I accepted the guy was a goner but one day I’m watching a movie and dude just slithers right up to the couch. I like to think he tried being a wild snake for awhile before he realized how much harder it was so he came back to live a much easier life as a pet 😂
my escaping pet stories aways ending bad. One time i had slugs in an terrarium wich wasnt suitable to keep animals wich can compress to a few mm diameter, but the funny thing was that they always wanted to come back! During the day, i saw them wandering around in flowerpots near the terrarium, and later they where sleeping in their hides in the terrarium, so i thought: " why dont let them have fun if they dont do any damage and always come back? " but sadly, one day, they got brave enough to leave the shelf, and they wheren't able to find the way back. So i often found exausted slugs in random places in my house, and sadly completely dried up ones. I just had no idea what i could do about them sliming this far away from home, and so they all died out after a while. This gone well for half a year before they got more brave... another one was a unbelievable tiny beetle, only 2mm, but i absolutely loved him. I know for sure he whouldnt stay in any enclosure with such a small size, but i build him a little garden in an empty plastic food box where he could rest, eat and drink, and he he always knew when it was time to go there and eat or drink, and it was just a lot of fun to find him in random places in my house, and when i thought he looked tired, i picked him up and brought him back to his garden. But yes, he died a very sad and tragic death. I accidentally spilled water on a book, and i was putting towels in it so it could dry, and i carefully stomped on it so the whater get squeezed out of the book in the towels. But when i looked for every page if it was dry, i found the beetle crushed in it. Very sad:( And i really dont know why i loved this random little beetle so much...
I love those Brachypelmas. She may not be the rarest or most exotic, but I just love her in all her fuzzy, orange and black glory. I'm so glad you found her and she's safe. 😍
Had my B. emilia escape two years ago. I live in a shared apartment and we searched my room in every corner and possible and not possible place and spot and hide and turned the whole apartment upside down two times. But she was nowhere to be found. I made sure my room door was always closed and had a insect net on my window. I checked my room everywhere twice a week and kept an eye out and listened every night. After 5 weeks or so, I kinda gave up but continued to listen to any small noise, that could mean, she is still there somewhere. After 3 months I heard a rustling in the middle of the night. And pinpointed it coming from my big box on top of my book cabinet and out crawled my girl, 2,20m high above ground. She was dehydrated and I placed her in a big cup with wet towels, a water dish. The next day she was well again and ate 2 roaches.
Glad you found her so fast! It's like Where's Waldo tarantula edition. My wife has already warned me that if one of mine escapes, she is leaving. Hahaha 🕷️
@@lmnopopsicle if you keep old worlds i would leave the house too xd, but if they are all news, then i wouldnt care because the most probably thing the tarantula will do, is to hide somewhere and live his hole life there if a bird doesn't hunt it first..
Thanks to you and your content I just got my first tarantula. She's an aphonopelma seemanni and I'm in love. She just had her first roach takedown in my care today
Seeing how your enclosures go together is very interesting! A roaming tarantula would cause me to evacuate my house and consider moving! Lol Thanks Petko! I always look forward to your Monday videos, a nice distraction before heading in to work! ❤️
I am watching some of your videos to fight my fear of spiders and it works well. I can watch all videos very relaxed. Last weekend I was very close to a tarantula in the zoo (the employee was standing in front of me with the spider in his hands) and I watched it - no freaking out, even taking close looks. Unimaginable some years ago. So thanks 🙏🏻
Hi Petko! I strongly recommend, for the hammering process, of sticking the plastic parts to the glass, use a soft surface, like a cork board piece on top of your table. Surely you don’t want to accidentally break the glass. I know it’s a rubber hammer, but better be safer.
Does anyone else get the Bob Ross of spiders feeling with this guy or is that just me? Also CC do you sell your enclosure set ups? If so do you ship to the US?
Don't know if it's the camera angle but some of those shelves look to be bending a bit. Might want to consider adding some support in the middle of the shelves.
when you get comfortable with spiders it doesnt become much of a panic thing. It's more oh goodness here goes a few hours of my day to find the bugger.
I just need to say that I'm am SO frikkin jealous of your setup dude!!! Not of the spiders per say, LOL, but of your layout and exhibit like pet room! You have good design instincts. You're also pretty damn funny and seem like you'd be a lot of fun to hang with. Hope the family is doing well.
I remember that measuring video! nearly wet myself when your P. cambridgei climbed on your camera and you looked like you were about to be eaten and jumped from your chair xD
You should make a Halloween feeding video where you feed all of your tarantulas with orange, or your species that have a skeleton looking pattern. Boehmei definitely fits in that category
If you want a more seamless join between the cut plastic pieces, you can use Acetone or plastic cement [I recommend Tamiya extra thin or plastic magic, they are thin and brush applied]. You will need to do it in a well ventilated area, but it will make the parts 1 large part, instead of 2 joined by superglue, actually welding the plastic. After it cures, you can sand it smooth and even brush the plastic cement over rough surfaces to smooth it out. This melts the plastic and allows it to re-harden. This trick is used in model building to remove mold lines, clean cut marks and close gaps.
There is a huntsmen spider in Australia that's communally living they're called the Social Huntsmen. They live on trees under the peeling bark with one matriarch female .
I had my first escape last week. My B. hamorii got out after I forgot to close here lid when watering all my tarantulas. Luckily she was still behind her cage when I noticed I'd left the lid open while watering and I got her back in pretty quickly.
Of course of all Ts to get out, it’s one of two I have. My first T was/is my female B. Boehmei, though she’s still got some growing to do yet. Beautiful Ts nonetheless and I’m glad you found her unharmed Awesome content as always though, Petko
Only escapee I’ve ever had was a male regalis. All of my tanks were kept in my bedroom and he didn’t surface for 2 days. I found him nestled in the 2 inch gap between the doorframe and the wall. Looking back, maybe sleeping in there wasn’t the best plan, but all turned out well with no bites or dehydrated pokeys.
I'm so glad you found her hehe sneaky girl we made that mistake...my Mexican Fire Knee when I first got my first tarantula I lost her in a week as she escaped from the open lid....poor baby was found on a sticky bug trap...I had to put her down...it hurt so much her name was Queen Arachne but now I got better advice and a better set up and my tarantula is a curly hair and they are doing wonderful I got them as a juvenile and they molted two times this year growing big. I think it's a male so I call them Aragog ^^
I think the mounted skull would look better on a wall with more open space where it may be mounted properly. However, by only being able to see what you show, the only wall that I think could accommodate it would be the wall with all of the debris, which I assume is for your large terrarium that's a work in progress. I thought it would look neat on the top frame of the large terrarium, but it looks too narrow.
I'm not a Spider-owner ... but superglue tends to need a while for the toxic fumes to properly vent out. I'd be kinda worried to harm my pets with the fumes. Your thoughts?

I think this is not the first time she escaped.. Weren't she the very one tarantula that escaped on the old old Dark Den by chewing through the plastic cup and was found in the next room by some worker guys? Or am I wrong? She was a similar looking species.
Just an idea/recommendation, dont keep the Ronin outside of its case for long period of time in a humid area. The electronics can easily get funky. Coming from experience.

Tip for mounting things to crumbly plaster boards - drill hole and add predrilled & screwed wooden dowels with wood glue into hole

If I buy two sets of the enclosure parts can I make an enclosure this size?

Hello there Petko!
(Being facetious) This is why I could never live in the same house with you. A containment breach like this would terrify me LOL.
On a more serious note. Now that I'm curious. Is there any possibility for an escapee to make it upstairs, or to the rest of the house?
"Thankfully it is not a super sticky glue" Huh I wonder why the magnet fell off xD
My 2 year old loves petko every time he hears the intro he yells petko 😂😂
Hey! What do you have under the skull?
Enjoyed a lot but if I had a tarantula roaming around I definitely wouldn't as calm as U, LOL.😀😉❤
I had a baby H mak get out almost a year ago and I just found her a few weeks ago after I got rid of all my other tarantulas because I lost interest in amazed she lived so long and it doesn’t look like she molted or anything
I think this is not the first time she escaped.. Weren't she the very one tarantula that escaped on the old old Dark Den by chewing through the plastic cup and was found in the next room by some worker guys? Or am I wrong? She was a similar looking species.
When my tanks have door malfunction I keep a roll alof duct tape on top of the tank
I never heard the water may be a problem annoying for you no issues on my end
It’s fine I lost my centipede and it was my fault. It died later. And it wasn’t a huge centipede luckily but it was £12! And J was pretty annoyed.
Cool moment when you watched behind all the enclosures and she suddenly was visible quite well.
So glad you found your naughty girl!!!!
She wasn't too far from her home!!
I really don't think that the water noise interferes with the video at all. It's not very loud or distracting.
I like the pretty guitar music. :)
Just an idea/recommendation, dont keep the Ronin outside of its case for long period of time in a humid area. The electronics can easily get funky. Coming from experience.
