THE WELSH SEASIDE Aberaeron

Like most Welsh coastal towns Aberaeron has a rather small population - 1422 at the last count. Perhaps a little euphemistically the x2 beaches are described as 'storm beaches'. Being pebbly they are not its greatest asset. That is without doubt its secluded harbour which looks glorious on a sunny day. Alas on the visits I've made I've not actually seen any fishing boats although there are lobster pots quayside - it's mainly yachts that fill the harbour
The colourful houses that surround the harbour certainly lend a charm to the town
Aberaeron was developed as one of the first ‘planned’ towns in Wales in the early 1800s
Many of the original houses were built in the Regency style and with their occupants being seafaring men who travelled the world they would often name their houses after far off exotic places
The Ceredigion Coast Path runs past Aberaeron and the route south to New Quay looks very promising for ramblers. Certainly, there are excellent views to be had over Aberaeron from just walking a little beyond the south beach
A regular bus service links the town with Aberystwyth, Lampeter and Carmarthen, with several daily through services to Swansea, Bridgend and Cardiff. Another service connects with New Quay, Aberporth and Cardigan from Monday to Saturday
